The astonishing assertion holds that Prigozhin cheated an assassination bid sanctioned by Putin and drawn up by his security council. ARussian political analyst has claimed warlord, Yevgeny Prigozhin, is alive after his “body double” was killed in last week's plane crash – not the Wagner chief himself. Prigozhin is “alive, well, and free” in an unnamed country, according to Dr Valery Solovey, even as Russia stages his funeral which Vladimir Putin is refusing to attend. The astonishing assertion holds that Prigozhin cheated an assassination bid sanctioned by Putin and drawn up by his security council, DailyMail reports. Prigozhin is now plotting his revenge, says the political analyst, a former professor at Moscow's prestigious Institute of International Relations [MGIMO], a training school for spies and diplomats. Dr Solovey accuses the Russian authorities of lying over Prigozhin's DNA being found at the crash site in Tver region, while being aware the bid to kill the Wagner supremo had failed because a body double - which the warlord was known to use - got on the plane in his place First, the plane in which Yevgeny Prigozhin was supposed to fly was downed by a Russian air defence system, he said, challenging US intelligence claims that the plane was destroyed by a blast on board. “There was no explosion on board. It was downed from the outside.” The secret operation to carry out this strike “was developed in [Russia's] Security Council, and was sanctioned personally by the Russian president [Vladimir Putin].” The warlord is now “alive, well, and free,” Solovey claims. “Prigozhin himself was not on board. His double was flying instead of him. By the way, Vladimir Putin is perfectly aware of that. If you believe official statements of the Russian authorities, then what can I say…?” Dr Solovey said he would reveal Prigozhin's supposed country of exile early next month but denied it was in Africa where the Wagner private army has multiple interests. It had been reported that Prigozhin was laid to rest at the Porokhovskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg, Russia, the deceased businessman’s media team announced on Tuesday. His burial came six days after he died in a plane crash, in Russia's Moscow capital. On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters Russian President Vladimir Putin — who Prigozhin rose up against in June — would not attend the funeral. According to a report by RT, the funeral was held behind closed doors, with only close relatives and friends of Prigozhin in attendance. |

The other arms of government – the judiciary and legislature – are to work out their modalities as they deem fit. “As you are aware, local government workers are not under the administration of the state. After the Russian government warned the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) against military intervention against coup leaders in Niger Republic, the United States has commended President Bola Tinubu’s leadership of the West African bloc in recent developments. The U.S restated its support to Tinubu after the junta inaugurated a new government made up of soldiers. ECOWAS, chaired by Tinubu, had threatened to use force against the coup plotters but following the expiration of its ultimatum, the body ordered the military in member states to be on standby for possible invasion of Niger. “We believe that a military solution to the crisis in Niger could lead to a protracted confrontation in that African country, and to a sharp destabilisation of the situation in the Sahara-Sahel region as a whole,” the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry said about the development of three days ago. But in defiance to ECOWAS, the military said Sunday that it will prosecute the ousted Niger President, Mohamed Bazoum, for treason. These drew the anger of ECOWAS on Monday as it described the soldiers’ move as a “provocation” while still upholding its economic sanctions against the country. On Monday, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, revealed he put a call through to President Tinubu to commend him on the steps he has taken so far on the Niger political standoff. “Spoke to Nigerian President Tinubu to commend his leadership of the Economic Community of West African States and discussed shared efforts to restore constitutional order in Niger,” he tweeted. Apparently, the US is backing ECOWAS and the Nigerian Government while Russia has taken a different position on the development. Meanwhile, multiple foreign media reported how Nigeriens trooped out to praise the junta while waving Russian flags.

Niger Republic junta leaders have blocked a senior US official, Victoria Nuland from meeting the country’s elected President Mohamed Bazoum. On 26 July 2023, a coup d'état occurred in Niger when the country's presidential guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum, and presidential guard commander General Abdourahamane Tchiani proclaimed himself the leader of a new military junta. Presidential guard forces closed the country's borders, suspended state institutions, and declared a curfew. This was the fifth military coup d'état since the country gained independence from France in 1960, and the first since 2010. The coup was widely condemned by the international community and by the West African regional bloc ECOWAS, which is currently considering military intervention in the country Nuland, who is the undersecretary of state said she met with the Nigerien military authorities on Monday, August 7, and that Bazoum is under “virtual house arrest”. She also described the mutinous officers as unreceptive and unwilling to heed US calls to return the country to civilian rule. “They were quite firm about how they want to proceed, and it is not in support of the constitution of Niger,” Nuland told reporters. She characterised the conversations as “extremely frank and at times quite difficult.” She spoke after a two-hour meeting in Niger´s capital, Niamey, with some leaders of the military takeover of a country that has been a vital counterterrorism partner of France and the US. The meeting was with Gen. Moussa Salaou Barmou, a U.S.-trained officer, and three of the colonels involved in the takeover. The coup´s top leader, former presidential guard head Abdourahamane Tchiani, did not meet with the Americans. In speaking to junta leaders, Nuland said, she made “absolutely clear the kinds of support that we will legally have to cut off if democracy is not restored.” If the U.S. determines that a democratically elected government has been toppled by unconstitutional means, federal law requires a cutoff of most American assistance, particularly military aid. She said she also stressed U.S. concern for the welfare of President Mohamed Bazoum, who she said was being detained with his wife and son. |

Niger Republic is a landlocked country. It should be possible for ECOWAS, led by Nigeria, to restore the democratically elected President, Mohamed Bazoum, to power by placing an embargo on the country. Nothing must go in, and nothing must come out except emergency medical supplies. No food, no beverages, no weapons, no cars, no nothing. Niger also depends largely on Nigeria for electric power. Abuja should shut the tap on that until the democratically elected President is returned to office. In addition, the Kano-Maradi rail line construction currently going on should be suspended. And in addition to the sticks mentioned above, some carrots should be dangled, such as complete immunity for the coup plotters, as well as allowing the ring leaders to leave the country along with a promise to pay them a robust maintenance allowance. There are other ways apart from military intervention to reverse this coup. Use sanctions and diplomacy to put the squeeze on these guys the way President Obasanjo put the squeeze on the putschists that attempted to overthrow President Fradique de Menezes of São Tomé and Príncipe in 2003. |
