You are not current

The LG election was conducted under an APC governor.Governor Adeleke who is the current governor and PDP took the election issue directly to the Federal High court instead of state high court which has Jurisdiction. All the APC LG chairman lost the case and were asked to vacate their office.

The LG chairmen dissatisfied with the outcome of the Federal high court appeal the case at the Court of Appeal which they won and was told to resume forthwith.

PoliticsRe: Drama As Akpabio Orders Senator Natasha Akpoti Out Of Senate Chamber by morrisono111(m): 6:33pm On Feb 20, 2025
My brother, media portrayal can be very unfair at times. What is moving in the news through the trending short video unfortunately does not reflect what happened in the chamber today.

Mrs Natasha Akpoti was given a new seat by the Chief Whip who has the routine work of allocating seats to senators whenever occasion demands. With the recent cross carpeting of two Senators from the left wing to the right wing, the Chief Whip decided to reshuffle seats and this affected Mrs Akpoti's seat alongside several other senators. Only Mrs Akpoti however refused to vacate her former seat and this forced the Chief Whip to bring her refusal to the floor. The Chief Whip then raised a point of order citing several provisions of the Senate Rule that empower him to arrange seats whenever necessary and the rule that senators are not entitled to be heard if they're not speaking from their allocated seat pursuant to the Rules. The Chief Whip's point of order was adopted and ruled favorably by the Senate President. When the Natasha sought to intervene, the President ruled that she couldn't speak from her old seat until she resumed her allocated seat. She then flared up and threw all the tantrums as seen in the trending video. This is an eye witness account.

PoliticsSupreme Court Reserves Judgement On Appeals Seeking To Nullify Rivers LG Poll by morrisono111(op): 1:12pm On Feb 10, 2025
The Supreme Court has reserved its judgement on an appeal the All Progressives Congress, APC, filed to nullify the outcome of the local government elections held in Rivers State on October 5, 2024.

While the APC, through its lawyer, Mr. J. B. Daudu, SAN, urged the Supreme Court to set aside the November 21, 2024, judgement of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, which declined to invalidate the election, Mr. Yusuf Ali, SAN, who announced appearance for Governor Siminalaye Fubara and Chief
Chris Uche, SAN, who is counsel to the

Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, urged the court to dismiss the appeal.

It will be recalled that the appellate court vacated the judgement that barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing the voter register to the RSIEC for the conduct of LG polls.

A special panel of the appellate court had faulted the Federal High Court in Abuja for barring security agencies from providing security during the elections.

The Justice Onyekachi Otisi-led panel had, in a unanimous decision, held that the lower court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain a suit against the Rivers State LG elections.

According to the appellate court, section 28 of the Electoral Act does not cover elections conducted by states but only federal elections, governorship, and area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Peter Lifu of the high court had, on the strength of a suit that was filed by the APC, stopped the conduct of the Rivers State LG election.
The trial court held that the RSIEC erred by fixing a date for the conduct of polls in the 23 local government areas without strict compliance with relevant laws guiding such elections.

Justice Lifu noted that RSIEC failed to publish the 90-day mandatory notice before it scheduled the election.

Besides, he held that the update and revision of the voters register to be used for the election ought to have been concluded before any valid date could be fixed for the polls.

Justice Lifu ordered INEC not to make the certified voters register available to RSIEC, pending when the relevant laws were complied with.

He further barred RSIEC from accepting any voters register from INEC or using the same for the purpose of the LG polls.

In a Public Enlightenment Campaign by the State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Hon. Binta Mamman stated that the program, under the visionary leadership of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, aimed to alleviate the financial burden of people in the State by providing subsidized prices of essential food items as follows:

Dear Nigerians

False text of broadcast in circulation

Please ignore the text of an alleged broadcast said to have been made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It is totally false. It is the handiwork of mischief makers, people bent on sowing confusion and chaos in our country. Please ignore it. President Tinubu has not made any broadcast.

Please find below the concocted broadcast.
.

TINUBU SPEAKS

My fellow Nigerians,

I stand before you today with a heavy heart, but also with hope and determination. Our beloved nation faces unprecedented economic challenges that demand bold and decisive action. As your President, I am committed to leading by example and making the difficult decisions necessary to put Nigeria back on the path to prosperity.

Effective immediately, I am announcing a 50% reduction in my salary and all other emoluments. I call upon the Vice President, Senate President, and all other top government officials to follow suit. We who have been entrusted with leadership must be the first to make sacrifices for the good of our nation.

In the spirit of fiscal responsibility, I am also announcing the following measures:

1. The Office of the First Lady will be scrapped to reduce unnecessary expenditures.

2. We will sell off several presidential aircraft that are currently idle, retaining only those essential for official duties.

3. Government ministries will be consolidated, with a maximum of 36 ministers to streamline operations and reduce costs.

4. Fuel and electricity subsidies will be restored to provide immediate relief to our citizens, while we work on long-term solutions to our energy challenges.

5. All government officials will be mandated to use locally manufactured products, including automobiles, to support our domestic industries and reduce foreign exchange outflows.

These are just the first steps in our comprehensive plan to cut the cost of governance and redirect resources to critical areas of need. We are also implementing the following additional measures:

6. A significant reduction in the number of political appointees and aides across all levels of government.

7. The implementation of a comprehensive e-governance system to reduce bureaucracy and improve efficiency.

8. A review and renegotiation of all government contracts to ensure value for money.

9. The introduction of a performance-based budgeting system to ensure that every naira spent delivers tangible results for our people.

10. A freeze on non-essential foreign trips by government officials, with a shift towards virtual meetings and conferences.

11. Effective immediately, there will be no more foreign trips for medical treatment for myself, my cabinet, and all government officials. We will use Nigerian hospitals and medical facilities. This measure will not only save foreign exchange but also demonstrate our commitment to improving our healthcare system. We must have faith in our own doctors and nurses, and work together to enhance the quality of healthcare available to all Nigerians.

I want to assure all Nigerians that these measures are just the beginning. We are committed to a complete overhaul of our governance structures to make them leaner, more efficient, and more responsive to the needs of our people.

To our youth who have planned protests under the #endbadgovernment banner, I hear your frustrations. I understand your anger. But I implore you to give us a chance to implement these reforms. Let us channel our collective energy into rebuilding our nation rather than further dividing it.

The road ahead will not be easy. It will require sacrifice and patience from all of us. But I have faith in the resilience and ingenuity of the Nigerian people. Together, we can overcome these challenges and build a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.

May God bless you all, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Thank you.
