I am a twentieth century kid: the nobility of the sixties, the emancipation of the seventies, the corruption of the eighties and the
moral decadence of the nineties are nothing but history to me. However the two-thousands, this new age that we live in, are experiences to me and I can say that I am a part of it.

Money and sex rule this age.

We are exposed to it all the time; on the street, on TV, on the internet, amongst our friends and even in our sleep. The images of
scantily dressed ladies with their breasts begging for attention are now an indispensable part of our psyche. We get embarrassed by them,
ladies who think it uncool to keep their cleavages under their clothes. Modesty has gone to the dogs. Now, padded bras and fake bums
are the fad. Showy misrepresentation of bodily parts, the need to make them bigger just so that we men can lose our senses while ogling at
those enhanced assets, is the norm.

And the social media isn’t helping.

Log into your social media account and you’d be appalled at some of the things you’d be confronted with. I just sincerely hope that God
wouldn’t judge us by what we see with our eyes and ultimately, later, in our minds.

I have more to say about provocative dressings and what it does to us men but I wouldn’t want to digress too much from the main topic of
this writing: Between Our Mothers and Our Girlfriends.

As young men, we often want our girlfriends to be like our mothers –if our mothers are good- and seeing these new age ‘babes’: the posh babes
who think being ‘fair’ is cool, owns a smart phone, desires to date only rich guys and live like a queen bee. I cringe to think how such
girls would grow up to be good mothers and extensively think about how morally decadent the next generation –our offsprings- would be.

I don’t think our mothers thought it right, as girls these days think it cool to date multiple guys. It was rarely heard of then, according
to what I learned, to see a young woman dating multiple guys at the same time. Now, every girl has a backup and a USB guy (the one who’d
come in when the backup fails) and some even have several USBs. As someone who doesn’t talk much, I often lurk in the shadows and watch.
I can categorically say it today that the world, our sense of morality, is fast going down the drain.

When a girl can comfortably have sex with two guys at the same time, when a girl can date more than four guys in a single year –I know a
few who have-, when a young girl believes that covering the entire part of the female body would be seen as being cold and backward, when
young ladies believe it isn’t morally reprehensible to hawk their bodies for a fee and fancify the act as ‘aristo’ or ‘olosho’ –ashawo
na ashawo abeg- , I think it wouldn’t be farfetched if I started weeping for the future generations now.

Since it wasn’t like this in times past, I think it would get worse in times to come.

The values we saw in our mothers, we might never see in our wives. We were a generation fed on food scooped from the pot into our plates. I
think we are going to grow on takeaways and microwaved meals. I fear our kids would see their mothers, not like we saw ours, modest, well
dressed women, but as smart phone totting women who would have more interests in their phones and other gadgets than in their kids.

From the little I’ve seen, I think our girlfriends would grow up to be unlike our mothers: they wouldn’t dress modestly like them, wouldn’t
respect their husbands enough, wouldn’t even hold the institution that is marriage as sanctifying as our mothers did.

I see a generation of wives who’d smoke in our presence –cigarette better; you need to see how girls smoke igbo-, wives who’d include
Hennessy in the list of necessities for the home, wives who’d excuse their not cooking because ‘there was an interesting show on TV. Would
you mind goldenmorn?’

Now, before anyone start cussing me out for generalisation, I’d like to say that I am not generalising but only basing my thoughts on
observations. Of course, you are different –rolls eyes- but this is how MOST twentieth century babes are.

To the guys, would you honestly be comfortable with your partner if you knew she’d had more than five sex partners? Sex these days, isn’t
about commitment or love, for some girls it is a pastime, you know, just like soccer is to us. I don’t think our mothers would sleep with
a guy if they didn’t think he’d marry them but babes of nowadays would sleep with a guy they’d only met on BBM in about two weeks. They might have a stable relationship somewhere but the sense of adventure would keep them looking for more fun and when that fun ends, they’d return to you, the regular guy, and act all saintly.

I think the internet and social media, BBM especially, in the main rust that ruptured the pipe of morality. It exposed our girls to the
type of freedom they hadn’t been used to and they allowed it to get into their heads. Some babes have been using smart phones for many
years but you’d never see them on Wikipedia or CNN or catch them reading about topics that would improve their knowledge. You’d only
find them on gossip blogs, dating sites, facebook and googling ‘how to give head.’

For me, I look out for intelligence in girls. When I mention Einstein in our discussions, I want my girl to be able to know who he was. I
like my girl to be on the same intellectual pedestal –greater would be cool- as me. I don’t expect her to tell me the year Dostoyevsky died
or the year Hiroshima was bombed but I at least expect her to know that Dostoyevsky was a writer and that Hiroshima was a place in Japan.

To me, intelligence is sexy but I fear that I might not find it in my wife. Rather, my wife would adore Beyonce and wouldn’t know who
Chimamanda is. My wife would scream when she sees Peter of P Square’s abs and not my own potbelly. My wife, that twentieth century babe that I might marry, wouldn’t, regrettably, know the difference between a
mule and a donkey.

Guys of these age aren’t absolved from the decadence, too, but their matter na another time. I’d stop here for now and should you have
diverging opinions to what I wrote, leave your comments below.

Literature / Help Critique My Query Letter by morzook(m): 7:09pm On Jan 03, 2014
Dear Agent:

I am seeking representation for my debut novel, an 84,000 words literary novel titled ‘WATER BOY.’

If Khaled Hosseini had written Angela’s Ashes, the result would be Water Boy; the story of two young boys, Ajiri and Kazeem, brothers, who grew up impoverished in a fishing community. The novel depicts the love that bounded them and the eventual hatred that split them, leading to the death of one and a life of regret for the other.

Having run away from home as a kid after witnessing his brother’s death in the hands of a serial killer he’d been trying to stop on his own, young police officer, Ajiri Ade, would receive a letter from his mother summoning him home: a place he hadn’t been in a decade and had almost forgotten about. Getting home however, Ajiri would discover that his mother, who’d thought him dead, was hale and hearty, hadn’t actually written to him and that the killer he’d thought dead was still alive and had captured his sister, Saheeda. Ajiri would have only two choices to make, to either run like he’d done once or stop a killer who’d robbed him of many pleasurable moments in life. Staying back would also give him the chance to atone for all his sins towards Kazeem and probably avenge his death.

The story spans Ajiri’s entire life; the poverty that characterised his childhood, his visible love and hidden hatred for Kazeem, his life living alone on the street, the years he spent at a remand home, his joining the police force and his eventual return home where according to the letter that summoned him, his mother was dying. Only his mother wasn’t dying and hadn’t summoned him. Someone else with an ulterior motive had.

Water Boy is a story of love and acceptance, regret and retribution, guilt and redemption. It shows how a single event could alter the course of an individual’s life –for good and bad. Narrated in the first person by, Ajiri, the story is 80% literary with the last few chapters being suspense filled.

I am from Ogun state, Nigeria and I have been writing for over five years. I am a pragmatist and I have a very inquisitive mind. Water Boy is the fourth novel I’ve written and certainly wouldn’t be the last. I would love the chance to send you a few chapters, or the entire manuscript and synopsis of Water Boy at your request.

Sincerely,
Morzook Biobaku.

@jerrymania: I shouldn't allow myself to be made a laughing stock? We are talking about money paid for service not rendered here -even if it isn't much.

Why I came this far is because of the lackadaisical attitude of interswitch to me, a customer. I expected them to treat me fairer than they did... and anyone who wishes to make fun of me can do so until they get treated in the same way by a service provider.

If we don't speak out now, we will continue to be treated this way!

I discovered Quickteller.com about two years ago and came to love using their website anytime I needed to buy recharge cards. With introduction of their mobile app early this year, my love for Quickteller grew and the ease with which I could make transactions online –bank transfers, buy recharge cards, check my account balance- became effortless. I hardly go to banks anymore.

My love for the app made me introduce it to family and friends and they’ve all come to love it as much as I did and those who don’t have the app would often call me at odd hours to help them transfer, from my own account to other people’s account or to help them in getting recharge cards. So on the evening of the 12TH of October, I got a ping from a friend, “would you help me get 1,500 recharge card?” she asked. “I’d give you the money tomorrow,” she said.

I logged into the quickteller app and proceeded to buying the card. I got a network error, tried again, same error and I tried it one last time. Error. To my dismay, I got a series of alerts on my phone that I’d purchased the cards. A total of 4,500. I slept that night, hoping that by the time I woke up, the error would have been rectified. It wasn’t.

I sent a mail to support@interswitchng.com and got an auto reply instantly. I was contacted by a staff later and I was asked to provide the number which was meant to be the recipient of the card. I did and was informed that the details of the failed transaction had been forwarded to my bank for resolution.

No resolution came and no response either from interswitch/quickteller. I decided to forgo the money and used the app again on the 23rd of the same month. My #400 was zapped and no card reached me. I sent a mail then, that I’d take my grievances to the social media if I got no response. Up till this moment, I am awaiting a response from them.

This post is not to witch-hunt. It is my last effort at getting the attention I should have gotten as a customer.

NB: I have used the app many times after that with no issues but I still demand my #4,900.

Below are screenshots of my mails to them.

When did we all become so daft to not see that this is fiction?

Sentenced to death, shot at a firing squad... aren't doctors stationed at the execution to ascertain if he actually died?

How soon after the firing was he taken to the medical students?

Where did this happen and what year cos I dey see BLACKBERRY so am assuming this occurred in the last decade and to my knowledge, I stand to be corrected, firing squad was used in the military era.

And if a convict fail to die during execution, na to kill him again. Why release this one, without even a court saying so o?

WHY DO WE HAVE TO BELIEVE EVERYTHING with a religious undertone, even the ones that sounds RIDICULOUS as this one?

God help us all...

Education / Top 10 Universities In Nigeria: The Party List by morzook(m): 8:07am On Aug 13, 2013
We all know why we are in the University is to study but being in the university shouldn't be all about books and books alone. The urge to partyyy and do crazy stuffs we wouldn't ordinarily do at home becomes overwhelming and as humans, we can't always battle the urge so we hit the clubs and bars and sometimes crash parties to satisfy the urge.

Hmmm.

So if you are finding yourself in this kind of situation and plan to enjoy your Uni days and early adulthood combining education with fun, studyNG has compiled a list of schools where you are guaranteed to upgrade your social presence, hone your dancing skills, likely to down your first pint and of course, totter for the second time in your life.

You've probably come across the phrase 'ain't no party like a Lagos party.' Want to verify that cliche? Then head to Unilag on a weekend to have a taste of the lagos has to offer. Partying starts on Friday nights when students start trooping to clubs on both the Island and the mainland, to 'club' parties and private parties. The fun doesn't on Friday, it continues to the next day only on a different plane; OWAMBE. With the number of students in Unilag, someone has to have something to celebrate on a given weekend and that someone will definitely invite friends over and decked in their ankara and shoes to match, there's no way you wouldn't recognise a Unilag babe at a party. The fun sometimes extend to Sundays... beach things. Despite all the partying, don't be surprised when you see these same party animals hurrying to class on Monday morning, all partying instinct dulled to be reawakened the next weekend.

2: Olabisi Onabanjo University popularly known as OSU is the second school tofeature on our list. Partying here is a pastime, the average OSU student wants and likes to party -note average, not all.
Partying knows no weekday, albeit on 'lowkey thingz' or as some are wont to say, local tinz.
Top bars in the university sell their drinks a little bit higher than the locals so boys wanting to booze find it convenient to hang out in the local bars until the weekend comes. Friday night is fun time. All the hangouts in the university town of Ago-Iwoye are always filled up with boys and girls wanting to unwind after a long week of academics. The bigger boys and girls often drive down to other towns; Ibadan, Lagos and Abeokuta especially to unwind. Favourite hangouts for OSU peeps are, B3 sports cafe, Limelite hotel and Dominion hotel among others.

3:Located in the Federal capital territory,Uniabuja is another party hub. Students like to have fun, that is a known fact, but Uniabuja peeps define fun. Abuja being the capital of Nigeria is an expensive city but is that enough to stop students from partying, hell NO! Friday nights, uiabuja peeps are found in every happening place within the city and most are known to be big spenders. If you like to party and spend like there's no tomorrow, head to the FCT and count your loss the next morning.
