Goodday great people, Please this question is for the structural engineers/builders here: There are thin visible cracks (fault lines) appearing on the interior walls of a building i manage and it's giving some concern. The building is a 3 storey building and these cracks are occuring in one of the flats on the first floor. Now i googled "cracks on walls" and got some info about the different types of cracks and how serious they are. The ones that are visible are springing up - close to sockets (step like cracks), - close to the top of the door edge (horizontal) - there is a vertical line at the edge of the wall (almost not visible) - then there is this step like crack on a wall in the flat that's starting from the floor, ascending all the way to the ceiling. Please my question is how can it be remedied. Cause from what i researched, i read it could structural. I also read that some of the cracks are not really serious, they only need to be scrapped and replastered then repainted. Your candid professional advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you |

@yemmight Very interesting forum you started, it has in a way changed my perception of HR practioners (to an extent). My last place of employment which was a large well known organization in Nigeria really changed my views of HR personnels. Before it might look as if i am being biased, most of my colleagues (back then) shared the same view with me. I was trained in customer service and was taught of the importance of being customer-centric to not only external customers but the organization's internal customers who happen to be the organization's employees. But this was not the case as most staff inquiries or requests were treated with utmost disregard as if a favor was being done for the person making the request). Most employees dreaded going to the HR dept becos of the cold attitude of the personnel there (not all of them were like that). What am trying to say in essence, is that HR practioners should understand their role within an organization, it goes beyond selection and recruitment, training and setting budgets but includes being able to assist the employees of the organization which is in a way motivating. That brings me to my second point, what steps are most HR personnel doing towards knowledge management? I just finished a post graduate masters in strategic management and this course has made me understand that as the environment becomes more competitive, organizations should start leveraging on their intangible assets which is a source of competitive advantage. So far in the tread, only adessolar brought up a subject related to it (the creation of value). Some organizations practice it (such as granting employees study leave and grants, some send employees on trainings) while others pay no attention to it. I believe HR practioners should do more in the area of creating value through knowledge management/leveraging on an organization's intangible resources as this goes a long way in the retention of employees (this is and has been a major reason for high levels of employee churn rate). |
Hey there nairaland pple, sort of new to this site (been a sideline visitor since '06) and have read so many crazy n interesting stuff, so i have decided to add my own 2 cents. Recently, two things made me start wondering about the things we go through in a r/ship all in the name of luv. Last week i went to spend the weekend at a friend's place (as per recession and nothing to do). Now the incident that occured that got me wondering is my friend's farting (breaking wind, messing) habit. I have nothing against farting (abi messing) except if the person discharging it, is aware that the gaseous content is extremely harmful and harzadous to everyone around him and i believe it is appropriate for that person to excuses himself from the area, ah ah, not my friend. The guy's ass leaks at will with no prior announcement, and [my goodness] he's mess can kill. If he was to mess in a sea, believe me aquatic life would cease to exist. To compound the matter he stays in a self contain flat and the windows could not be open thanks to the cold (UK). I had to bear this for the wkend, i almost finished his deodorant. The second incident involves another friend, well i wont blame him cause he isnt aware of what he does cause when he is doing it, he is oblivious to it. He's issue is snoring, and i dont mean that soft snoring that sounds like the engine of a brand new car, but that of a grinding machine, u know that type that's used for grinding corn and beans for mass food production. Damn if anyone has ever experienced these rhythm of the night u will all agree with me that it is not the pleasant especially if u are the light sleeping type who has to get up early and go to work. Now these two incidents got me wondering how couples (not married oh!) who spends days and nights with each other put up. Just sharing my experiences, hate it or love it, we just have to go through some shit in the name of luv, so nairaland peeps feel free to share yours ![]() |
Dem Hisba advocates are just a bunch of ignorant morons whose ideology are based on those of their leaders who are out to use them for their own selfish interest. This has been a major problem with the north. |
