At its Windows event in San Francisco today, Microsoft announced the next release of its operating system. Known until now as codename Threshold, the successor to Windows 8 will officially be known as Windows 10.
Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Operating System, unveiled the name, after saying Windows is used by about 1.5 billion people. “Windows is at a Threshold and now it’s time for a new Windows,” Myerson said at the event. “It wouldn’t be right to call it Windows 9.”
Before giving the new name, Myerson trolled everyone by saying it would be called Windows One. Since Windows 1 has already been released though, the company chose to go with Windows 10. He did promise, however, that Windows 10 would work across all types of devices (computers, tablets, phones, and of course the Internet of Things): “One product family. One platform. One store.”
The new operating system will offer a tailored experience for each device, but a single store will offer apps and updates across all devices. Windows 10 “will deliver the right experience on the right device at the right time,” Myerson said.
As the company has said before, it’s bringing back the Start menu. At its Build 2014 conference in April, Microsoft had a mockup available.
Today, it has the real deal, at least as it stands right now (remember, a lot can change from today):
The Start menu not only has live tiles, but you can resize them, which impacts the overall size of the menu itself. You can also search the Web and receive results without opening up a browser.

You are a CEO of a non-technical organization. You have 50,000 employees, 30,000 use computers for their business processes, you have outsourced your IT infrastructure to an IT company.

Will you pay for 30,000 employees (non-technical) to be trained on Windows 8?
Will you continue with Windows 7?
Will you ask all your staff to go to Google and download how to use Windows 8?

Please answer those 3 questions.

Am a very busy man, so i dont spend much time on nairaland. This wil therefore be my last response on dis tread. Regarding ur question. Pls go back n read my comments carefully. First, dis is jet-age so i dont nid non-computer literates in my team. 2. Every computer literate who is used to any version of windows will definately consider windows 8 as the best, if only he has read d user's manual for W8- written in plain and simple english. 3. I'll expect my employees to be a brace wit industry standards, expecially if such does not really require any formal in-house training. It is expected of u to use few minutes (underline the word 'minutes' ) to read a product manual after purchasing same or after downloading same for free. Take note.

That is a very dumb question. Go to google to download the simple instruction contained in the user's manual for windows 8 -- (that is, if you did not buy a brand new system dat came with d user's manual). The instructions contained there are very simple to understand. In d control panel, u can eliminate d windows 8 start-screen if those tiles are also giving u some headache. Your system will thereafter always take u straight to desktop after booting, rather than d start-screen.
