lovewins: Baba, you're reiterating my point na. If you read carefully and not in a bid to respond you'll see what you wrote is exactly the point I'm making. I advocated for more equitable data points when making comparisons in argument as many seldom do that. Kompany didn't need to win the EPL, La Liga or any top league before the management of Bayern figured he could get the job done. It means there were criteria absent of just outcomes that informed that decision. You get? So you can imagine if there was an argument about who the better coach is between Kompany and say Tuchel then someone uses all they trophies that Tuchel has won as proof of that. Doesn't make any sense. There's has to be predermined metrics outside of outcomea that allows for objective comparison. Another example will be an argument about who the best coach in the coach the Bundesliga is. It will be lazy to just conclude that Kompany for instance is the best simply because he won the league. He literally has the best team and just any other coach will likely have same outcome no matter who they are. You know what the proof of that is? Bayern has won 13 of the last 14 Bundesliga the exception being when Leverkusen won in 2023. In those years they've had at least 10 different coaches. So coaching change didn't lead to a different outcome. That's what we mean when we say the data shows coaching has little to do with the success of the team in certain instances. Not that coaching isn't important, but it just isn't as consequential. This is the same thing with the WAFCON for the Super Falcons. We've won 10 of 13 tournaments, so the data literally shows we almost always win irrespective of who is coach. For the 3 times where we didn't you can look at the game and explain why that happened. So you can't now use AFCON trophy in arguments when we are talking about how good a coach is. It just doesn't make sense. You actually shared two instances. In your words, For example, if I were to make comparison between Madugu and Nora, the wrong metric to use will be the outcomes from both teams they manage cause they handle 2 significantly different teams. In a 10 game tourney between Nigeria and Zambia, chances are Nigeria will win 8 out of 10 times no matter who the coach is. So outcomes like this should be of little consideration when conversations like this happen. A better retort will be if Nora were coach of the same Super Falcons team, what will be the difference in outcome in philosophy, coaching decisions, style off play etc. I hope this helps If I understand you perfectly, what you're trying to say here is that the calibre of team a coach manages sometimes influence outcomes which I somewhat disagreed with hence, using Kompany as an example. BTW, Kompany won the English championship which might have caught the attention of Bayern. The question is what has Harple done so far to make her qualify as the next Falcons coach? The other guy has been banking on her CV which to me is not enough. I mean, in the corporate world, CV is just a pathway. Your performance or result (KPI) determines how fast you climb up. |

Bruno on joining Arsenal: “I'm very excited, I’m at the point of my life where I need a challenge like this. I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I'm in the right place to do it. I'm so excited to start.”
Bruno: “Rice sent me a message: ‘Come here and please no more fights, now we’re friends!’ I was happy he messaged me.
“In my point of view, [the Arsenal midfield] is one of the best in Europe. Everyone is an amazing player.
“Every time when I play against [Arsenal] it was very tough. They keep the ball, they defend like one. I think that combination is the way I like to play as well, and of course, joining the winners of the league is always a big opportunity.”
On what he can bring to our midfield unit, Bruno said: “I can pass the ball, run a lot and play like a warrior, I'll never give up. I will try to help the team, [I’m] good with the ball, composed, very calm, and sometimes I can score some goals and hope to make everyone very, very happy here.”
Bruno: “Of course, Gilberto Silva. I love him as a player, I had the opportunity before to talk to Gilberto Silva. I hope I can follow his history here and make myself one of the very good players at Arsenal in history.”
On wearing N39: “It means everything to me. I have the tattoo of the 39 as well. My father was a taxi driver in Brazil for more than 20 years. The taxi, of course, gave me everything for my family, the place we live, the food, my clothes, everything.
“So when I got the chance to sign to a top club in Brazil, I asked my father which number I should take and he said 39. I was upset a little bit because I wanted to take the 97. He said: ‘No, no, take the 39. The 39 gave you everything.’
“When I got to Athletico Paranaense, I went to do the medical and when I opened [my bag], the number 39 was in there and I was very scared. I went to the kit man and I said: ‘Why 39?’ He said: ‘Well, if you don't want it, you can change it.’ I said: ‘No, no, no, it's exactly what I want!’
“At that moment, I called my father and when I told him the history, he started to cry. He said: ‘I told you, this number is going to give you luck.’ Since then, I've always been the 39.”
Bruno: “It's massive what I have done so far, but I want more. I want to win for Arsenal. I want to win more trophies in my career, and I think I'm in the right place, at my peak at 28 years old.
“I'm so excited to join. Here, wearing this shirt, you have to go for winning trophies, winning everything we can and make history.
“I want to put my name in the club history. Someday, when I leave, I want players to come here and say I want to do exactly what Bruno did for the club. I think it's the best thing that a player can do for the club: create history and inspire the young.”
Bruno on his message to the fans: “The message for me is thank you for everything you have done. All the messages you gave me, I'm so excited to join you. I will give you my best, I promise. Like I said, I'm your warrior, I'll never give up. Hopefully we can create many, many good memories together.”

Hopefully the 39 will give us UCL |

lovewins: For those who care to listen, I'll repeat for the umpteenth time that these arguments are fruitless as folks here hardly argue in good faith neither do they submit to superior argument. I've since discovered the following:
1. Nigerians mostly care about outcomes not process. It's why every politician in this country know the goal is to get INEC to declare you winner no matter how fraudulent the process is. Both the Nigerian populace and the electoral and judicial system do not give a hoot after that. This is why any critique of Madugu, his philosophy, style of play, coaching decisions and process etc with be countered with "but he won the WAFCON that Randy didn't".
2. Nigerians also don't understand nuance, context, scale and proportionality. So you very seldom see them make comparison between 2 things without context for the inequality that exist between those things. It's why you'll see folks in making arguments for the best run state make comparison between Lagos and say Enugu and instead of using statistical averages that reflect difference in scale just raw data to make their point. Like how do you compare a state that makes trillions in revenue to one that makes tens of billions without accounting for averages to make your point?
For example, if I were to make comparison between Madugu and Nora, the wrong metric to use will be the outcomes from both teams they manage cause they handle 2 significantly different teams.
I hope this helps. Kompany joined Bayern from English championship. Iraola landed Liverpool job from Bournemouth. In short, there will always be signs whether you're coaching a more superior or less superior team. So far so good, Haptle has not shown she has what it takes to lead us. Super falcons job shouldn't be based on trial and error. Biblically, the parable about talent also support my stance. If you can't handle amd maximize the little in your care, how will you be able to utilize a bigger size? |

NasirIbnLaAhad2: I get that some of you find it difficult to sit back and actually engage the facts, but I'll gladly clue you in regardless. You see, whenever critical thinking is on the line, majority of you users here become the undisputed heavyweight champions of shooting yourselves in the foot. You’ve perfected a results-only tunnel vision that treats a single trophy like total immunity. Win a single match and suddenly the coach is a tactical Einstein, no questions asked. Then the next tournament arrives, the same unaddressed structural decay yawns wide, and everyone gasps in shock because nobody bothered to audit the cracks while busy deceiving themselves wilfully.
Now let's pull up resumes, shall we? Hauptle bagged her UEFA Pro Licence way back in 2018. Her CV isn’t a fever dream. She helmed SC Sand in the German Frauen-Bundesliga (2020–21), ran the Israeli women’s national team, resurrected Ghana’s Black Queens, and also made Zambia into a powerhouse in African women's football. Nora also sports a sports-science degree from the University of Bern plus that UEFA pro badge, and her body of work installs systematic pressing cues, video-analytic prep, and proper periodisation.
Now pull up Madugu's resume. I'll wait. Last I checked the only club team he coached in the Nigerian League ended up getting relegated. Oh but Madugu won the WAFCON, right? Hey newsflash: how many WAFCON titles have the Super Falcons won before Madugu even smelled the position of Super Falcons Head Coach? If the answer is more than 10, then what has Madugu ever achieved that is special in all his years as a head coach that puts him head and shoulders above Nora? Tactically, Nora has built a vertical transition machine designed around two cheat codes called Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji. Instead of slow, sideways possession-recycling that sends fans to sleep, her plan unleashes immediate line-breakers into wide channels, isolating full-backs like they owe her money. And she does this with a bunch of no-names in her midfield. Who knew Zambia before she came along? Meanwhile, Madugu’s attacking blueprint still tilts heavily toward skyballs or lateral shovelling to wing-backs and box-crowding. In 2026. Defence paints an even starker portrait. WAFCON group-stage Nigeria has leaked five goals in three matches, including a historic clown-car moment - three goals shipped against debutants Malawi. Nora's compact block leaked only three, posting a +5 goal difference next to Nigeria’s +2. On paper, it's not hard to figure out which team has been more defensively organized despite having the weaker personnel on paper.
Hell, I'm not even saying Nora Hauptle is the best tactical genius in women's football right now, but anyone who sincerely thinks it's a hot take that she should be a proper replacement for Madugu is having a laugh. If you chaps like, you can sit there in the peanut gallery of medicority and keep using single match outcomes to pull the wool over your own eyes. Fact is that a holistic read gives Nora the superior pedagogical framework, tactical edge, and institutional stability on the touchline.
So let me get this straight, you could willingly bring in Madugu who practically had a non-existent CV to oversee the team before the last WAFCON, but all of a sudden you're gobsmacked and sensitive when I mention Nora Hauptle who actually has a better case now than Madugu did back in 2024? Lol. Sometimes I read takes here and get seriously concerned about the state of critical thinking in these football discussions. With logic like this, it’s no wonder Nigerian football has gone to the dogs. Pardon me for saying this but all these are campaign epistles that doesn't address the main issue. 1. CV is not enough. Achievements matters. I was expecting you to also highlight what Haptle has achieved with her 'rich' CV. 2. If we're letting Madugu go, then we need someone better. Ffs, Haptle couldn't score against Falcons twice (yeah?) even with a man advantage. We even looked more dangerous after Tosin got sent off. Please Abeg Biko We need better coach please |
