Phones / Telegram To Start Paying Channel Owners On Its Platform by Motheroftwo: 5:19pm On Feb 28
Telegram CEO and founder Pavel Durov announced today that the company is launching its ad platform next month, allowing channel owners to receive financial rewards. The company will pay out rewards using toncoin on the TON blockchain. Channel owners will start receiving 50% of all revenue that the company makes from displaying ads in their channels.

Telegram channels allow users to broadcast public messages to large audiences. Durov says that while broadcast channels on Telegram generate one trillion views every month, only 10% of these views are monetized with Telegram Ads, its promotion tool. In March, the Telegram Ad Platform will open to channel owners in nearly one hundred countries, marking a major shift toward content monetization.

The company didn’t provide any specifics about eligibility, but TechCrunch has reached out to learn more.

“To ensure ad payments and withdrawals are fast and secure, we will exclusively use the TON blockchain,” Durov wrote in his announcement post on Telegram. “Similar to our approach with Telegram usernames on Fragment, we will sell ads and share revenue with channel owners in Toncoin. This will create a virtuous circle, in which content creators will be able to either cash out their Toncoins — or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels.”

The TON token soared nearly 40% to over $2.92 following the immediate release of the news, and is sitting at $2.65 at the time of writing.

With this latest announcement, Telegram will be joining the likes of YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), both of which offer ad revenue sharing with users. YouTube offers a 55% share of ad revenue to creators in the YouTube Partner Program, while X started offering revenue sharing to users in July 2023. Meta also has also been testing a new payout model for its Ads on Reels monetization program.

Telegram has more than 800 million monthly active users around the world, and Telegram users generate over 500 billion views in broadcast channels every month.

Politics / Nigerians Resort To Attacking Tinubu's Family On Social Media Over Hardship by Motheroftwo: 3:54am On Feb 19
Motheroftwo:
In the midst of mounting economic challenges and widespread hardship in Nigeria, a surge of discontent has materialized on social media platforms, particularly focusing on the family of Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu. 9jatongue.com.ng has reported a significant increase in online attacks targeting Seyi Tinubu, the son of His excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Seyi Tinubu, is currently receiving gbas gbos on all his Instagram comment section which has resulted in him closing comments in all his recent posts including old posts.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, the dissatisfaction expressed online often revolves around appeals to Seyi Tinubu to intercede with his father, imploring him to address the plight of the Nigerian people. Nigerians, particularly those identifying as APC believers and predominantly Yoruba and Northern people, have taken to Seyi Tinubu's comment section to express their disappointment, accusing his father of failing the nation.

In a surprising twist, it becomes evident that the majority of those voicing their discontent are individuals who supported the APC and played a role in voting his father into office. The attacks on Seyi Tinubu's social media accounts thus reflect an internal discord within the APC community, with party supporters openly challenging the policies and leadership that they once championed.

Furthermore, the dissatisfaction expressed online appears to be fueled by widespread discontent with the perceived failure of Bola Tinubu's policies. Many Nigerians attribute the current state of affairs, marked by hunger, inflation, and security challenges, to the alleged shortcomings in Tinubu's governance. The high cost of living is evident, with skyrocketing prices in essential commodities such as cement and petroleum etc, exacerbating the economic hardship faced by citizens.
Notably, as prices soar, the minimum wage remains stagnant, further deepening the economic woes of the average Nigerian.

A visit to seyi tinubu social media pages, 9jatongue.com.ng discovered that thousands of Nigerians are crying and raining causes on him under his comment sections.
