SA does not have better financial institutions that Nigeria.

You guys have better cities now but we are building more number of better world class cities in Nigeria now (Eko atlantic city, Orange island, Lekki city, Abuja centennary city, PH rainbow town, Enugu centennary city, Kano mega city. Anambra airport city and Lagos smart city to commence soon)

S.A may have better few developing cities but Nigeria has more developing cities Lagos, Abuja, PH, Enugu, Kano, Ibadan, Calabar, Benin, Kaduna, Owerri, Onitsha, Jos, Uyo, Warri, Aba, Zaria and many dozens more, equally and rapidly developing at the same time.

Heck, many South Africans and other Africans still come to Nigeria on 'religous pilgrimage' . Nigeria has the biggest and most influential religious institutions in Africa.

Nigeria has the most succesful and influential business men influencing Africa positively

Recently, Nigeria has started investing heavily on Agriculture and industrialization.
Nigeria is not there yet, but it is growing faster (coupled with it's huge potentials as a large and hardworking nation), and in a short time from now, there will be no basis for comparison.

A developing China has more potentials than a dev Brazil
A developing India has more potentials than a dev Indonesia
A developing Egypt has more potentials than a developing Morocco.

Likewise Nigeria and S.A

Nigeria is a failure. A big one. A massive disappointment. We know this. All 3 countries with representatives bragging here, South Africa ( no.119), Ghana (139) and Kenya (146) rank higher in the UN human development index (HDI) than Nigeria (152). We do have a very long way to go.
Ghana though ($4,291) and Kenya ($3,218) have a lower GDP per capita at purchasing power parity than Nigeria ($6,121). That's the single biggest determinant of the mean standard of living of the average citizen of the 3 countries. South Africa ($13,209) ranks comfortably higher in this measure as well. Ghana and Kenya only rank above us in HDI due to the extremes of poverty found in the Nigeria North whose economy is closer to the level Niger and Chad compared to the South. A few points to note:

For the Ghanaian braggarts who seem the loudest here, it is true Ghana has a more organized, peaceful democracy than Nigeria and have made bigger strides than us over the last few decades, particularly doing well in providing basic amenities like power and good roads and portable water. But don't fool yourself, Ghana is still an impoverished country by global measures. Outside the major urban centres, slums and gripping poverty exists. And compared to Nigeria, I'd say the big difference in governance comes from the fact their polity is so much less complicated than Nigeria's. Far smaller country, far smaller population, far smaller economy, far less tribes and ethnic tension etc.

Kenya is pretty much the same situation as Ghana. Except they have loads of slums themselves and have highly impoverished masses.

South Africa is definitely more prosperous than Nigeria. And by a good margin too. But is black South Africa doing better? That is highly questionable. Sure, they get to walk around on cleaner, more beautiful streets. But poverty, massive unemployment, violent crime, drugs and HIV pervades their society. Black South Africans comprise over 80% of the population, but own just 9% of the JSE stocks. Corporate leadership is overwhelmingly white dominated still. They have a hell of a lot of work to do as well.

So I would just like to you to take note of this. This continent is united in failure all over. All this chest-beating here shouldn't make you lose sight of that fact.
