Technology is at the center of so many careers from business and finance, to healthcare and IT. If you are on the job hunt and not seeing the results you want, computer skills may be the answer to help you compete. Here are 3 reasons why you need computer skills:

1. It’s Part of Today’s Education
Little kids are on computers almost before they learn how to walk, and the devices are in classrooms across the country. Especially in higher education, they are essential. If you try to get by without one, you’ll be left far behind. But if you get on board, and not only use them in school, but throughout your life, you’ll be more proficient and knowledgeable. After all, you may compete for a job with people just like you or against someone half your age.

2. Technological Knowhow Is A Job Expectation
Even jobs that used to have nothing to do with technology now rely on it to function. Whether you’re checking out at the grocery store or checking in with your doctor, people behind computers keep things running smoothly. Did you know there are very few job descriptions out there that don’t require some understanding of computers? Basic computer skills are now a workplace expectation. Some of the programs you may need to know include email, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. If you don’t know them already, it’s time to get started!

3. It Can Help Advance Your Career
Take your comfort level with technology and get online to learn skills that will further help your career. Maybe it’s a business program that you’ve considered but never felt able to take because you couldn’t get to campus. Do it online. Or perhaps it’s those Microsoft programs your employer thinks you already know. Get certified online so you’ll have proof that you do. If you want a competitive edge in your current career or are ready for a new one, you always need to be willing to learn. For your first job, the next big promotion, or an entirely different career, the more you know, the more marketable you are as an employee in this digital age.
