HealthHealth Benefits Of Vernonia Amygdalina Aka Bitter Leaf by mrbillz(op): 2:12pm On Oct 24, 2014
The VERNONIA AMYDALINA is a widely
known plant popularly called bitter leaf, evergreen
in nature and florishes where ever it grows. It is
called “ONUGBU” by the Igbos of the eastern part
of Nigeria who use it as vegetables, “EWURO” by
the Yorubas of the western part of Nigeria who
use it for medicine, while the Hausas of northern
Nigeria call it “SHIWAKA”.
As we all know the VERNONIA
AMYDALINA is popular for its bitterness, its
leaves, stem, roots and bark; a little reminder that
life isn’t all sweetness, therefore the slang name
BITTER LEAF.
Bitter herbs help to tone vital organs of
the body like the kidney and liver. The Liver is the
largest organ in the body and is responsible for
the secretion of bile and formation of glycogen. It
is also responsible for the metabolism of protein
and fats, infact it’s an organ any one would want
to keep intact cause once there is a defect it is
very hard to correct, alcohol, sugar and over
processed foods should be avoided. The Kidney
helps expel waste materials from the body; a
breakdown of the kidney is a general disorder of
the entire body. The bitter leaf contains
vernodalin, venomygdin and saponin which are
antibacterials that help keep this vital organs
(kidney and liver) in order.
In Nigeria of West Africa the bitter leaf is
used to cure Ring Worm, Rashes, and Eczema
just by applying the pure undiluted extract of the
bitter leaf to the affected part.
The bitter leaf also reduces the sugar
level of the body drastically and repairs the
pancreas, a wonder cure for diabetes, squeeze ten
handful of the leaves in ten litres of water and
take 2glasses 3times daily (6glasses daily) for
one month.
Let me give you a story. A relative of
mine was diagnosed for postrate cancer and was
told to come back in two months for an
operation; he was advised by a tradomedical
expert that bitter leaf would solve his problem.
“how can that leaf over there solve what needs an
operation?” he asked, “my friend all you need do
is squeeze the fresh leaves in water and take 1
glass 4times daily for two months after all you
have two months before the operation, its worth
the try!” said the herbal expert, and would you
believe it when he got back to the hospital he
was told he won’t need the operation any more.
Now that’s another wonder of bitter leaf I
witnessed myself. I hear the bitter leaf also
sooths inflamed joints and eradicates pains
common with Arthritis or Rheumatism patients.
I would really like to hear your
comments, observations and also would like you
to share some of your experience with the leaf, to
those looking for a way to battle these diseases
mentioned above, Diabetes, postrate cancer,
kidney or liver related problems, is it ring worm,
rashes or eczema? Give this wonderful gift of
nature a try; they have been with us and around
us for centuries.

Education22-year-old Nigerian Breaks Academic Record At John Hopkins University by mrbillz(op): 10:52am On Oct 22, 2014
A 22-year-old Nigerian has emerged one of the
top graduating students of John Hopkins
University in the United States. He obtained a
Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of a possible 4.0
to earn a degree in Neurosciences, SEGUN
OLUGBILE writes.
A 22-year-old Nigerian, Emmanuel Ohuabunwa,
has made history at John Hopkins University,
United States of America. Ohuabunwa from
Arochukwu, Abia State, has done the nation proud
by becoming the first black man to make a Grade
Point Average of 3.98 out of 4.0 to bag a degree
in Neurosciences in the university. He was also
adjudged as having the highest honours during
the graduation that was held on May 24 this
year.
For his efforts, he has won a scholarship to Yale
University to pursue a degree in medicine.
Besides, he has been inducted into Phi Beta
Kappa Society, a prestigious honour group that
features membership of 17 US Presidents, 37 US
Supreme Court Justices, and 136 Nobel Prize
winners.
According to Wikipedia, The Phi Beta Kappa
Society is an academic honour society. Its
mission is to “celebrate and advocate excellence
in the liberal arts and sciences” and induct “the
most outstanding students of arts and sciences
at America’s leading colleges and universities.”
It was founded at The College of William and
Mary on December 5, 1776, and thus it is the
oldest honour society for the liberal arts and
sciences and among the oldest undergraduate
societies in the US.
In an online interview with our correspondent,
Ohuabunwa, who was born in Okota, Lagos and
attended Lilly Fields Primary School, Lagos, said
he left Nigeria after his junior secondary school
education at Air Force Comprehensive School,
Ibadan, Oyo State.
“My parents moved the whole family when I was
13 years old. I was about to begin SS1 at Air
Force, Ibadan. When I got to the US, I was
enrolled with my age mates, which meant at 13, I
was in middle school. I went to Fondren Middle
School, which was in the middle of the ghetto.
That was one of the darkest years for me because
I encountered a lot of peer pressure. Some of the
students, ignorant about Africa, bullied me and
called me names such as ‘African booty
scratcher’ because to them, Africans were dirty
and scratched their butts all the time.
“Some asked me if I lived in mud huts and ate
faeces for breakfast. I remember one day, when I
was walking to the school bus, a boy came from
behind and punched me in the face, called me an
African and walked away. It took everything in me
not to retaliate. I knew that God had put me in
the U.S for a purpose and it did not involve
fighting or selling drugs or doing the wrong
things.
“My experience during that year gave me a thick
skin. I learned to stand for what I thought was
right even when the opposition seemed
insurmountable. I also learned to look at the
positive in all situations. Even though these kids
were bullying me, I was still gaining an
opportunity to school in America and nothing
would stop me from making the best of this
opportunity.
“The shocker was that the kid that punched me in
the face was black. I would have expected the
blacks to be nicer to me. Nevertheless, I don’t
blame those kids because they were ignorant
about Africa. All they knew about us was the stuff
they had watched on TV or documentaries,
showing primitive African tribes, living in the
jungle and making noises like monkeys.
“In regards to the whites, there might have been
some minor episodes but again I don’t blame
them for it because it is a problem with
stereotypes,” he said.
But in spite of this humiliation and racial prejudice
against him, the first in a family of three was not
discouraged. He faced his studies and was
always coming top in his class. After he
completed his middle school education, he
passed the entrance examination to DeBakey
High School for Health Professions. It was at this
school that his interest in neurosciences and
medicine started.
“By the second year of high school, we were able
to interact with doctors, nurses and other
administrators in the hospital. The more I learned
about medicine, the more it felt like the thing God
was calling me to pursue and by being in the US I
got a lot of people to support me to do this. Even
though in high school, I got to see first-hand
what it meant to be a doctor. We studied
advanced anatomy and physiology, learned
medical terminology, and learned important skills,
such as checking blood pressure, pulse rate, and
many more.
“I knew I wanted to go to the best school in the
US. I had heard that Johns Hopkins Hospital had
been ranked the number one hospital in the US
for the past 21 years and I wanted to be in that
environment.’’
Worried that his parents might not be able to
sponsor him to the university, Ohuabunwa
purposed to work very hard. He did and when the
result of the PSAT came, he performed so well
that he won the National Achievement Scholar.
By virtue of this award, he received certificates of
recognition from various organisations including
senators from the Congress of both Texas and
the US. He also received scholarship from the
University of Houston; Rice University, Texas A&M
Honors College and many more.
He had also won the Principal’s Award during the
annual awards ceremony at DeBakey High
School.
“During our graduation ceremony at DeBakey, I
also won the Award for the Most Outstanding
Senior Young Man and the student volunteer
award for my volunteer activities in the State of
Texas,” he said.
But his breakthrough came when he won the Bill
and Belinda Gates Foundation full scholarship to
any university of his choice. He worked hard and
gained admission to Johns Hopkins University to
study Neurosciences.
But why Neurosciences, Ohuabunwa said, “I
studied Neuroscience, because I was fascinated
with the brain, its control of our behaviours and
how various diseases such as Alzheimer’s
disease, lead to a decline in its activity. I also
minored in Psychology because I wanted to
understand disorders in the psyche. What causes
bipolar disorders or schizophrenia. I did not just
want to label them as crazy but to understand
what causes these conditions and how we can
treat them,’’ he explained.
But what does he consider to be the missing
links in the education sector of Nigeria when
compared with that on offer in US, Ohuabunwa
said unpredictable academic calendar, corruption,
examination malpractice and inadequate funding
were some of the problems confronting his home
country’s university sector. These, he said, were
absent in the US.
“There were a few problems with Nigerian higher
education that contributed to our emigration in
2003. The first was the number of strikes that
occurred in schools. It took my uncle seven years
to graduate with a degree that should have taken
him only four years. A second problem was the
corruption. We had heard of people going into
universities, because they paid someone to look
the other way. I also heard of a few cheating
scandals, where people would pay someone to
take their exams for them or get a copy of the
exam a few days before,” he said.
But is he saying that US university system has no
such problems at all? Ohuabunwa said, “Although
this sometimes occurs in the U.S, it is less
common because of the strict security. I
remember when taking the Medical College
Admissions Test, test required before one can
matriculate into medical school, each student had
to get his fingerprints taken every time we
entered and left the hall. The whole place was
packed with cameras and security staff that
monitored everything we were doing. The exam
was computerised to make sure that no one saw
the test before the actual date.”
Another difference, he said, is that America
rewards hard-work while the system also
emphasises on a balance between academic life
and extracurricular activities.
On how he won the scholarship to Yale,
Ohuabunwa said his 3.98 GPA in Neurosciences,
and many awards he had won and God’s grace,
contributed to his winning the scholarship.
“As at the time of my application for medical
school, I had a 3.98 GPA of a 4.0. This made me
the only black student inducted into the
prestigious Phi Beta Kappa. I was also awarded
the Becker Family Scholarship for being the most
outstanding student in the Neuroscience major at
Johns Hopkins University. Furthermore, by God’s
grace, I took the MCAT and scored in the top five
percentile.
“That, combined with my hours of volunteer
service in different hospitals across the US
allowed me to gain acceptance into every medical
school I applied to, including Harvard, Yale, Johns
Hopkins, Columbia, and Cornell. As the time came
to make a decision, I had narrowed it down to
Harvard and Yale. Both schools, I enjoyed
visiting. Nevertheless, while my parents prayed,
they asked God to give us a sign of what school
to attend. A few days later, I received a letter
from Yale Medical School, offering me a full ride
scholarship for all four years. That was the sign
from God,” he said.
But would he come back to Nigeria after the
completion of his programme, he said yes.
“I am absolutely interested in the health care
policy decisions in Nigeria. Because there are
many changes that need to occur, I will not rule
out the possibility of coming back after my
studies, in order to join hands with the leaders to
make these changes possible.’’
He added that his ambition is to become a
medical doctor specialising in brain surgery.
“Two weeks ago, my grandmother passed away
after a long battle with strokes. Even during
emergencies, it was difficult for her to get to the
hospital, let alone get treatment. This is a
common theme not only in the health care
system of Nigeria, but in different countries in the
world, where the poor get neglected.
“Second, Nigerian hospitals lack the infrastructure
required to compete with major hospitals around
the world. It would be an honour to one day
contribute to this transformation that is
necessary for improvements in Nigeria’s health
care sector,” he said.
He, however, advised Nigerian youths who have
the wherewithal, to go abroad to study.
Ohuabunwa also called on wealthy Nigerians to
invest more in the education of the poor rather
than in acquisition of material things.
Ohuabunwa, however, said that his parents, who
he described as his greatest role models,
contributed a lot to his academic feat through
Godly training, counsel and guidance. He also did
not forget the impact that his short stay at Air
Force school had on him.
“I was definitely not the brightest at Air Force. At
that time, I felt like I spent more time running
away from seniors than focusing on my studies.
Nevertheless, I learned three things at Air Force
that have served me well in the US. I learned
discipline, adaptability and resilience. These
attributes helped me a lot in US,” he said.

Education10 Types Of Lecturers You Meet In The Nigeria University by mrbillz(op): 7:19am On Oct 10, 2014
1.The Sadist – Most students are scared
of him. He comes to class, threatens
everyone, you rarely see him smile,
always serious with a straight face. He
never gives an ‘A’ and when result
comes out, his courses are always mass
failure. He is usually the most hated
lecturer.
2.The comedian – He is more or less a
stand-up comedian. Always lively,
students look forward to his laugher-
filled lectures but once taken for
granted, he can be shocking. He is
usually stingy with marks/grades.
3.The Student lecturers – Also known as
Assistant lecturers. They usually start
as errand boys to some top lecturers
in the department, they mark exam
scripts, invigilate during tests & exams
and later graduate to helping the
lecturers with some of their lectures.
They are usually hyperactive,
aggressive and proud which usually
results into a clash with the students.
4.The Crazy Lecturer – He rarely smiles,
does things in an unusual manner
including ways of speaking(with big
grammar like Hon. Patrick
Obahiagbon), a funny dress sense
(with long bling-bling chains like Ayo
Oritsejafor). He is always REAL and
serious, doesn’t care what his students
feels or think about him, highly
unpredictable and lectures for 3/4hrs
until the students complains.
5.The Fatherly Lecturer – He is always
matured, homely, approachable, and
friendly. He takes his time to
extensively teach his students in such a
way that once you fail his course, you
know that you truly deserve to fail. He
is students’ favourite.
6.The Lazy Lecturer – He comes to class
twice in a semester(One, for course
introduction & later, for revision, a
week to Exams). He doesn’t lecture nor
teach, he only comes to read out loud
while the students listen. He doesn’t
care if you understand or not, and 15
or 20mins, he is done for the day’s
lecture.
7.The ‘Runs’ lecturer – He comes to
class, gives shabby lectures and drop
his mobile digits or his errand boy’s
digits(The coded students knows what
to do). #5k for ‘C’, #8k for ‘B’ and
#10k for ‘A’ depending on the
importance or Unit of the course.
8.The Departmental dog – Woman
wrapper. He takes advantage of any
vulnerable female student, it doesn’t
matter how young she is, the sex
addict just want to get laid at the
slightest opportunity. Hide your babe,
sister, daughter from him.
9.The story teller – 90% of his lecture is
the story about his days in the
University and how serious/dedicated
they were those days + how he still
consult his 1973 lecture notebook. He
talks about how bad the Gov’t and the
school management is, especially if he
is an ardent ASUU member. He usually
receive at least 10 phone calls within a
lecture.
10a.The Religion fanatic (Daddy G.O) –
This type of lecturer comes to class to
chip in the Gospel within his lecture,
inviting the entire class to his church
& mid week programmes. He is always
gentle & Godly.
10b.The Religion fanatic (Mallam) – He
comes to class and usually separates
the female students from the male
students before his lecture begins. He
looks gentle and you don’t need to be
told before you know he is a muslim.
Take him for granted and you will pay
dearly for it.

Romance10 Signs There's No You And I, Only Us by mrbillz(op): 10:37am On Sep 20, 2014
How do you know when you truly like someone?
It is when others look or seem less attractive to
you, when her sneeze is annoying to others, but
is cute to you, or the way she puts her feet
under your legs to keep them warm when you’re
cuddled up watching a movie on the couch.
That’s the moment referred to as “when she
becomes yours.” How does another person
become “yours”?
1. When there are millions of inside jokes that
only you two understand, and for some reason,
these jokes never stop. Instead, they get funnier
by each day, morphing into new ones.
2. When your day starts and ends with her, not
forcefully, but naturally. Not physically, not even
by texting or talking on the phone, but simply
the fact that you think of her when you go to
bed, and when you wake up. Your feelings for her
don’t even give you the desire to look at anyone
else, but her.
3. When her silly faces are more attractive to
you than any other supermodel’s professional
picture.
4. When you feel close to her even when she’s
not next to you in person.
5. When she can turn you on by saying
something very non-sexual on the phone, or
through texts by the way she says it, or the
essence of what she was saying makes you
realize why you like her so much.
6. When the thought of her calms you. When you
lose faith in humanity, she is the “safety.” You
think of her and remind yourself that people like
her still exist.
7. When the good times that you share with your
boys are so much fun that you want her to be
part of it, too, and you worry how you’re going
to balance that.
The best part is that there is no need for balance
because if she’s truly yours, she should know
she will never replace your boys. Of course, if
your boys are your true friends, they will support
your relationship.
8. When she sings next to you without any
restrictions, even though the birds die within a 5-
mile radius.
9. When you realize that you like her for her
imperfections, and that other girls’ imperfections,
are just.. well, that is why you’re not with them,
and you’re with her. Her imperfections are sexy,
interesting, captivating and entertaining.
10. When you courageously opened up your
insecurities and vulnerabilities to her, and she
didn’t make fun of you.
When someone becomes yours, there are no
problems or arguments; there are only
discussions. There is no need to explain the love,
you just feel it. When someone becomes yours,
their worries, sadness and happiness all become
yours.
When someone is yours, the joy that comes with
sharing the positive results of life becomes even
more enigmatic.
When someone becomes yours, there is no you
and I; it’s us. We present ourselves to the world
together. Dynamics change, and our love for
each other grows. We don’t need to say
anything; we understand. We don’t need to
understand anything; we can just feel.
When someone is yours, you are that someone’s;
you can never feel lonely ever again.
If you filter down to the basic human emotions
of care and love, unpolluted by the modern
thought process and societal expectations,
feeling close to someone is the most rewarding
sense in the world; it gives meaning to your life.
Open your heart; open your mind. Embrace each
other, and let the world unfold in front of you.

MisterLongman: There is this popular notion that lecturers fail their because they don't want them to reach their level... That's why you hear in some schools that a department has never produced a first class or even 2nd class upper student and the department is proud of the status quo..... I don't know if its true or not tho
yes, you got it right bro. My department is still on the verge of producing a first class student since inception....
