Trump Ranks Himself As The Greatest U.S. President (Photo)

Aug 26 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms (META.O), agreed to pay a maximum $16.68 billion [/b]and make major changes ​to Facebook and Instagram [b]to resolve claims by states across the U.S. that the company designed those platforms to addict children, ‌misled consumers about their safety and improperly collected children's personal data.

The settlement resolves claims brought by 29 U.S. states, and will end a federal trial that had been one of the highest-profile tests yet of allegations that social media companies harmed young users.

Meta will impose daily usage limits and restrict nighttime usage by children ​who use Facebook and Instagram, and enhance measures to prevent children from accessing age-restricted content.

The Menlo Park, California-based company denied ​wrongdoing in agreeing to settle.

Wednesday's settlement also resolves lawsuits by California, Illinois, New Mexico and Washington, D.C., over ⁠privacy claims related to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, where the consulting firm collected personal data of millions of Facebook users. Those states ​will receive $459.3 million to resolve those lawsuits.

Shares of Meta rose 2.3% in early trading.

The claims were part of a broader wave of litigation brought ​by states, local governments, school districts and individuals alleging that Meta and other social media companies fueled a nationwide youth mental health crisis.

The trial in the Oakland, California, federal court covered claims from California, Colorado, Kentucky and New Jersey that Meta violated their state laws protecting consumers.

It also covered claims from 29 ​states that Meta violated the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act by collecting personal data from users it knew were children without parental ​notification or consent, and using the data to train machine learning and generative AI models.
Meta has long argued it could not have misled consumers about whether ‌its services ⁠were addictive because "social media addiction" is not a recognized psychiatric condition.

Before the trial began on August 18, Meta said California, Colorado, Kentucky and New Jersey were seeking up to $1.4 trillion in penalties. The states suggested that the figure would be closer to $200 billion.

A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS

Meta, Snapchat and its parent Snap (SNAP.N), YouTube and its parent Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab, and TikTok and its parent ByteDance still face thousands of lawsuits in federal and state ​courts over claims they knowingly designed ​their platforms to have features ⁠that addict children and teenagers, fueling a mental health crisis.

A trial in Nashville over claims brought by Tennessee against Meta began last month.
The federal cases were consolidated before U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ​in Oakland, and include lawsuits brought by individuals, school districts and state governments.

Earlier this year, Meta lost ​both phases of a ⁠landmark lawsuit brought by New Mexico. A jury in March ordered it to pay $375 million after finding it had misled consumers about the safety of its platforms. On August 6, a judge found Meta had created a public nuisance and ordered it to pay an additional $567 million and implement youth-safety ⁠measures.

Also in ​March, the first trial over an individual’s claims against Meta and Google ended ​with a verdict in the plaintiff's favor. A Los Angeles jury found the companies liable for plaintiff Kaley G.M.'s depression and anxiety and ordered them to pay a combined $6 million ​in damages.

I've seen countless people in my life journey that are deeply diabolic and drench themselves in charms for protection and such. These people attract many women effortlessly without even trying and even when normal men can't easily get one lady.

When I use to have close relationship with the devil, I always ask myself also what trips a decent, morale and focused lady to my surrounding. The more I tried to know, the more confused I became.

In an unprecedented move, French authorities accused the head of a major platform of crimes committed by its users.

That investigation is still ongoing, although it makes less sense with each passing year.

Why?

Because we now have extensive evidence that Telegram was neither worse than other popular platforms at moderation, nor the worst at cooperating with authorities.

So why was Telegram singled out?

Over the last two years, we have seen a pattern emerge in multiple countries: Telegram is quietly asked to grant political favors — such as illegal censorship or surveillance. When we refuse, local media and “non-governmental” organizations launch orchestrated campaigns portraying Telegram as a cesspool of crime, from child pornography to terrorism.

Our moderation is no worse than that of other major platforms. Yet these campaigns instill the idea that Telegram should be persecuted or restricted.

Suddenly, officials start caring about crime and protecting children — but only on platforms that reject their secret political demands. Platforms that accept such deals get away with almost anything — including literally selling ads promoting child pornography.

Is the French investigation against me political? It certainly fits the pattern we see elsewhere, mostly in authoritarian countries. And it definitely raises questions.

In time, this investigation may itself be investigated — especially now that Macron’s war against free speech is facing pushback. This month, France’s Constitutional Council struck down his social media ban for children under 15 on freedom-of-expression grounds.

In the end, freedom and truth will prevail ✊

Jesus taught us never to give up on any individual most especially when we have discovered that you've given up on false religion we will continue to show you that God is working in the midst of His true worshipers unless if you are not sincere with yourself.

You can throw more insults we are used to it already and mind you false religion will be destroyed soon perhaps when the world empire of false religion finally gets kicked off by politicians globally remember we have told you.

One thing i want you to know is that there is no way you won't find mistakes in the midst of God's people because they are imperfect humans but God will never leave honest hearted and sincere individuals in the dark regarding the identity of His organized worshipers.

So if you still have the mind to worship God know today that Jesus did not leave God's faithful people despite their imperfection.

The identifying mark is and will always prove that God is working in the midst of His true worshipers.

Unironically, one of the best things that could ever happen to Nigeria is being sanctioned and prevented from importing things.

The United States imposed new sanctions Tuesday on International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane and senior trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye.

The move marks a direct escalation in Washington's declared campaign to dismantle the global judicial body.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the punitive measures, saying the targeted officials have tried to investigate, arrest, or prosecute individuals from governments that have not consented to ICC jurisdiction.

The court responded swiftly to the announcement, condemning Washington's actions. The institution stated that the new measures undermine the rule of law.

"The Court remains undeterred and stands firmly behind its personnel and behind victims of unimaginable atrocities," the court said in a statement.

"The Court will continue to fully discharge its mandate with independence and impartiality, in full accordance with the Rome Statute and in the interest of victims of international crimes."

The Trump administration has a history of targeting the court over its attempts to investigate the United States and Israel, neither of which is a member state.

Tensions deepened after the court issued arrest warrants for officials including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over military operations in Gaza.

Rubio launched a broader State Department-led campaign last month to systematically dismantle the institution.

Washington has since pressured foreign governments to withdraw funding and participation from the court, threatening increased scrutiny for non-compliance.

"The ICC’s ability to target American nationals and those of other non-States Parties must end," Rubio said. "The Trump Administration stands ready to take additional measures, if necessary, to systematically dismantle the ICC until it is incapable of threatening American sovereignty."

The diplomatic pressure has already yielded withdrawals from the court. Both Venezuela and Chad announced decisions to withdraw from the ICC following the launch of the US campaign.

The ICC’s Presidency of the Assembly of States Parties expressed concern over the withdrawals. The body warned that the exits risk undermining global efforts to end impunity and pursue collective justice.
