I have always said that part of Atiku's problem in 2019 was picking Peter Obi single-handedly. It infuriated the SE governors because Obi mostly criticised them.

Abaribe, Ekweremadu and Ugwuanyi didn't like that incident and also the fact that they didn't tell them before announcing him despite the fact that the PDP governors and ranking senators in the SE worked hard to make sure he became the candidate over Tambuwal. Atiku has always shown a character flaw of picking the wrong running-mates. If the SE votes in the 2019 election was as high as 45% with the sane voting percentages, he would have won. This would have happened if he oicked Abaribe as running-mate.

In 2023, if he had picked Wike as running-mate, he would have been president right now too.
