The father of Nathaniel Samuel, the young man who was arrested for allegedly trying to bomb a Living Faith Church in Kaduna, Mr Samuel Ezekiel, has confirmed that his son is a Christian, and not a Muslim as being speculated on social media.
It could be recalled that the identity of the arrested would-be bomber had generated uproar across the country as many disputed his name and religion.
Our reporter who visited the suspect’s house at Marabar Demishi village located few kilometres from Maraban Rido in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state met his father, Samuel Ezekiel, a Jarawa by tribe from Bauchi state, alongside the Kaduna state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Joseph Hayab.
He also said Nathaniel was born in 1991 and schooled in the state, adding that his mother was from Nasarawa state even though she no longer live with them.
Mr Ezekiel told Daily Trust that his son has been a Christian and not a Muslim even for a single day.
Asked if his son bears Mohammed Sani as being speculated, he said, “No! Not even for a single day has he been a Muslim.” Mr Ezekiel also said he was shocked when he was told that his son carried a bomb into a church because he wondered what would have happened to the lives of people in the church.
“If he was alone, I don’t care but for the lives that are in the church, I begin to wonder. I shed tears,” he told our reporter.
Also speaking with Daily Trust, Reverend Hayab Joseph said he knew the father of the suspect for many years, noting that it’s just that he didn’t know that Nathaniel was the son of Mr. Ezekiel until he visited the house.
He said CAN is not concerned about Nathaniel’s name or religion but the act of criminality that he would have committed which should be addressed.

I stopped trusting the Nigerian police since the day a Nigerian living in the USA came home to visit his family in the 80s and was killed in a police station where he took shelter because he arrived late and couldn't proceed to his family house to avoid being attacked by the oshodi boys in those days. The moment the police got to know he had some dollars on him after he introduced himself, they killed this man and took all his money. Thank God the driver who picked the man at the airport and dropped him off at the station was told to come back the following day by the man to pick him and also inform his family that he was at a police station for protection and would be with them that morning.
The driver first left for the family of the victim the following morning before going to the station and delivered the message. Before getting to the station, the driver met the body of the retirnee lifeless along the road where he was dumped. He didn't bother to report at the station but made a u-turn and headed to the family house of the victim. The moment his retired military officer brother heard of the horrible incident, he carried his gun and asked the driver to move to the scene. After seeing his brother's body along the road, he entered the police station and shot all those on duty dead. He boldly searched their pockets and met dollars inside. The government was alerted and some of them who did night and had a share of the money had handed over and left but were all captured and charged for murder. The incident took place at mafoluku police station which was shut for years before being reopened because of the incident. Since that day, I've lost trust in those men in black. Who will be armed? According to the new law, any civilian aged 18 or above can apply for recruitment and there is no maximum age. But recruits cannot belong to any political party.
Volunteers must be “patriotic and loyal” and must have a “spirit of sacrifice”.
The law mandates that a minimum of 10 volunteers be recruited in each village or residential area.
The chosen volunteers from each village/area will be given 2 weeks of training. The law says they must be taught how to handle weapons, basic fighting skills, the rules of discipline and civic education and moral instruction.
