joseph1013: U20 World Cup: All African teams hit knockout rounds
https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/06/Samm_12_May_3.jpg
History was made Sunday when all four African teams at the FIFA U20 World Cup - Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Mali – made it to the knockout stage of the competition for the first time ever.
Interestingly, it will be an all-African clash on Wednesday, when Ghana face Mali in Wellington.
Ghana, the first and only team from Africa to win this competition in 2009, lost 1-0 to Mali in the group stage of the African Youth Championship in Senegal in March, before they avenged this defeat by beating their West African rivals to finish third in the same tournament.
This fixture means that at least an African team are guaranteed a place in the last eight of this tournament.
African champions Nigeria will take on the champions of Europe Germany on Thursday in Christchurch after the Flying Eagles finished second in Group E behind Brazil.
Senegal, hosts and runners-up at the 2015 AYC, also made it to the knockout rounds after they finished as one of the “third best losers” and they will now tackle Ukraine in Auckland on Wednesday. oga, i must congratulate on the gud job that u are doing on this thread. Ur updates and match reports have been wonderful. Kudos to u. I hope u consider a career in journalism coz u are a great reporter. |

safarigirl: can't see Mali winning Ghana, but like you said, anything can happen hmmm, i hate it when we meet african sides at fifa tournaments, they become very difficult to beat. In 09, we struggled to beat s.a in the 1/16. We will beat them but football is unpredictable. |

safarigirl: I think I remember that part. It was outrageous I tell you i got so angry, it was like naija was gonna score the second goal then the naija player was pushed of the ball and the went to score, i hope this flying eagle squad get it into their minds that the referee can go against them in the germany match and they should do their very best to win. |

Krasid: Nigeria played its best match against Germany in that 2009 tournament but still lost courtesy a last minute counter by the Germans thanks to Haruna lukman losing the ball.We even dominated the match. a nigerian player was fouled in the build up to germany's second goal against nigeria in 2009 but the referee didnt call for a foul. i think its time for nigeria to get some revenge against germany. |

londoner: Call a spade a spade. What Buhari, APC and others deemed foolish and clueless under GEJ is now praise worthy to them.
Answer me honestly in this 'move' has Buhari done what GEJ wasn't already doing?
It is simply a continuation. I hope it succeeds because Nigeria and lives must be saved but please don't insult our intelligence to suggest this was not already being done.
The hypocrisy is shameful and it looks like there is more to come. i know its continuation but dis is jux one of the reasons who jonathan was voted out. There are many other reasons |

Its now or never, the flying eagles have to prove to us that winning the ayc wasnt a fluke by playing and beating germany.... If they want to win the tournament for the first time they have to show it by killing some of the big boys in dis tournament. |
Politics › Re: Buhari Is Right To Seek International Assistance To Battle Boko Haram - APC by mrham03(m): 7:16pm On Jun 06, 2015 |
londoner: For Nigerian voters it was about change but for APC and those who left PDP to APC to prop up Buhari it was about using that voter yearning for change to get into power.
Buhari began backtracking on his promises even before May 29 handover.
Let's be honest before GEJ left he was already working with neighbouring countries. Why deny it just to make it look as if Buhari is doing something new? yeah, some promises of buhari was simply unachievable but people bought into it. Yes jonathan started alot of things in trying to end the boko haram resistance but i guess it a little too late to win him another term in office. Lets jux give buhari time and see how it goes. I know u are a pdp fan but lets wait and see how buhari and apc also approach dis situation. Am sure the people of nigeria will vote them out when the time comes and there isnt any progress. |

Politics › Re: Buhari Is Right To Seek International Assistance To Battle Boko Haram - APC by mrham03(m): 6:54pm On Jun 06, 2015 |
londoner: I thought he was going to call his retired generals to plot how to defeat BH?
Where is the change then because GEJ was already working with neighbouring countries towards the end of his tenure and they were recording victories. The whole APC and Buhari was just an avenue to remove Jonathan nothing else and it was not about Nigeria or 'change' whatsoever. it was about change. Nigerians wanted to try a different alternative to ruling of naija. They felt buhari could bring them the changes they wanted, the northerners wanted safety, security and end to the killings. Maybe buhari thought fighting boko haram was easy when he wasnt yet president but now he knows the fight wont be easy, seeking international assistance is the best thing to do ryt now. Lets face it, nigerian army cant fight boko haram alone atleast for now. Change will come but u need to give buhari time. |

joxxy01: I mean, if ghana can star ''small sized'' Clifford Aboagye then why iz he keeping Chidera Ezeh on the bench?? Ezeh is a clinical striker too ur team's midfield needs creativity. Maybe chidera ezeh myt help bring that creativity. Manu garba tried to use iheanacho in that position but he faded out in the second half. |
