Beautiful slay queen selling amala

Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, recently ventured into the hospitality business and became a food vendor with her amala joint which she called Abula Spot.

But even as she opened the joint, not just a few wondered where and how she was able to get the money which she used in acquiring the two-storey building that houses her joint.
Reacting to the speculations, the actress claimed that she had to sell some of her landed property and also her jewellery in order to achieve her dream.

“I did not collect a loan to open my business, I saved. I had been planning to open this place for a very long time, so I had been saving. When I wanted to get my new office building, I sold some of my property. I sold almost all my gold if not everything. During that time, I sold one batch and when I needed more money, I sold the rest. I told myself to forget about gold for now because I know that I can make the money back later. With the support of good people as well, I was able to get my office building. The first lady of Kwara State who came to inaugurate the building supported me. Some of my godparents also supported me because I told them that I wanted to sell amala,” she said.

Apparently, her new found love would eat much of her time if she wants the business to survive but during the course of chatting with Saturday Beats, the actress said that she has everything figured out.

She further said that selling amala can never make her quit acting. “I can never quit my career for anything. I am a very organised person. When you are organised, you plan ahead. My life is planned and that has helped me a lot. I knew I was going to do this food business but I waited till the right time. For about a month or two, I am not going to be filming so that I can look after my business. I have a structured plan for my business. It is insured, I have an auditor who comes to look at the records. Everything is well planned,” she said.

Ojo who jokingly said that people now refer to her as ‘Iya alamala’ (amala seller) said that she is not ashamed to sell food some people..

Popular Yoruba actor, Eleso has said indecent girls, bad movies churned out are the two major factors that chased him away from Nollywood, He however also mentioned the piracy sector, but it was the least, lol.


He said :

“A lot of people have been asking me this question lately. If you notice, many of the people in my category that we started acting at the same time are no longer that vibrant in the industry. It is because we are afraid of the type of scripts that the children are churning out these days. Even in my house, I cannot watch most of the films that are released nowadays because there is really nothing to learn from them. Many of the actresses don’t dress properly. And because we are not their parents, they don’t listen to us.

You cannot expect people whose parents are not responsible to behave well. You cannot see people whose parents are theatre practitioners, or those who actually trained for the job, behaving badly.

Another major issue which is killing the industry is piracy. Many of us borrow money from banks just to shoot movies, and at the end of the day, we are not able to recoup our funds because of piracy.

There was a time I caught the person who pirated a particular movie of mine, and he threatened me that if I took him to the police station, he would come back for me. He told me that he used to be an armed robber, and that it was when they killed his gang mates that he started piracy.

At that point, I had to let him go. The government really needs to do something urgently about piracy. If there are strong punitive measures for pirates, you would see that it would reduce drastically,” he said.

The Nigerian Customs Service on Thursday seized another 470 rifles at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.

The Comptroller –General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali, who disclosed this to journalists, said the Federal Government would engage the Turkish government over spate of illegal importation of dangerous weapons from the Middle East nation to Nigeria.

He said a meeting between the leadership of Customs and the Turkish Ambassador in Nigeria, has been fixed for Friday as part of efforts to fish out those directly or indirectly connected with the dangerous importation.
He said the new container belongs to the same importer of the 1,100 rifles seized few days ago at the port. “The Customs’ leadership was sad because despite their previous efforts, our officers at the Tin-Island port had intercepted another 470 rifles shipped into the country from Turkey.

“The importer of this deadly cargo was Great James Oil and Gas Limited, while the vessel MV Arkas Africa owned by Hull Blyth was used in the illegal shipment of the guns into the country,” the Customs Comptroller General said.
According to Ali, the importer used the elbow plumbing plastic he declared in his Bill of Lading as a decoy to deceive the Service before the container No. CMAU189817/8 was subjected to 100 per cent examination by officers.

He said Customs officers discovered that the guns were concealed in a 20-foot container.
The guns were seized by the Area Controller, Tin-Can Island Command, Mr. Bashar Yusuf.
