Enugu – A Catholic Priest in Enugu, Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka has condemned the recent agitation and protests for Biafra nation describing the action as`evil.’ Mbaka made the condemnation in Enugu on Saturday in a sermon at his weekly Adoration Ministry. . . The cleric urged youths in the South East and South-South to go back to their business as the protest could lead to their death. “Locking up your shops and disrupting economic activities will not add any naira to your pocket, whatever grievance you have could be resolved through dialogue,’’ the cleric said. He lambasted those leaders that were behind the agitation and protests, saying that they should use their children for the struggle. . . Mbaka commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing ministers from the zone and assigning them with good portfolios. “President Buhari’s action has proven that the South East has not been marginalized. I would have reacted if no minister emerged from the zone,’’ he said. He said that the five states in the zone had minister each as prescribed by the Nigerian constitution as well as other key security and protocol officers that serves under president and his wife. The reverend father attributed the recent free health screening initiative by the Wife of the president, Mrs Aisha Buhari, in Enugu to her love for the people of the region. He blamed the Igbo leaders for not living up to the expectation of the people in the area, adding that past governors, National Assembly members failed woefully in discharging their mandates. “President Buhari is not the cause of poor roads, unemployment and other decay infrastructures in the south east, we should blame our leaders. “Most of the roads had been awarded but our leaders squandered the fund, even the university teaching hospital in Enugu is a no-go-area and our leaders are not concerned about it,” he said. . . Mbaka called on the new Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, to use his office to employ youths in the zone, adding that it would stop what he called another Boko Haram in the south east if not curtailed. He praised Buhari’s war against corruption, saying it had enthroned due process and sanity in governance. The cleric, however, urged Nigerians to be patient with the president as he had good plans for the country. . "www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/rev-fr-mbaka-says-pro-biafra-protests-is-evil/ |

makzeze:While your linguistic zeal for grammatical services should be applauded, I dare say your hounding of what seemingly appeared itself an agrammatic usage of English Language, especially in what obviously is conventionally correct, is not only absurd, but uncalled for, and lacking in merit. First, in trying to untie an erring goat trapped in the cunning knot of its rope, you ended up strangling that goat to death. Your inability to see beyond your nose, the complexity as well as flexibility of modern days Grammar, especially, pertaining that vast particle of variant linguistic mood, orientation, culture, not ignoring the correlative verbiage of conflicting antecedent in common linguistic "unionhood". Starting with the erroneous vehicle through which you conveyed other dastardly errors and in truth, some alleged erroneous facts, one begins to wonder whether the intention is a good one or purely motivated and whether for selfish reasons or out of sheer ignorance. One of such blunders can be seen in the following excerpt: "Second, I thought it was unfair to pillory the grammatical infractions of people who were speaking under pressure since, in any event, in speech, we don’t usually have the deliberateness, forethought, and self-correction that we bring to bear when we write.".. First error here is the obvious, "the grammatical infractions of people.." This is not only ungrammatical, but woefully misleading! "Infraction" means the violation or infringement of a law or agreement. However, this was "epithetly transferred" from law to grammar which, obviously is not a grammatical offence. However, for pluralising it, you dealt a gruesome blow on the face to Grammar! This is because there is only one element, "Grammar" and as such, must maintain its singularity! Unless the elements are above one, eg, "the grammatical and political infractions of .." Second the following : " in speech, we don’t usually have the deliberateness, forethought, and self-correction that we bring to bear when we write.".. Really? Is "Deliberateness" and "self-correction" compatible? This is a violation of the grammatic term known as "grapheme-morpheme correspondences". How? Simple! The noun form of "deliberate" is "deliberation" while that of "self-correct" is "self-correction" on the one hand, while the "NESSive" form of both are "deliberateness" and "self-correctioness" respectively, on the other hand. So why mix both? Furthermore, on the issue of "My Names", your argument is shallow. First, the correctness of both are still heavily debated by Grammarians. Now, if I have many names and I use "my names are". I am not correct neither am I wrong. That is convention for you. "Are" simply means your names are more than one. But such scenarios hardly repeat themselves so that we are faced basically with a single name questionnairing. The above will be correct in some certain instances where the question reveals itself as, "What are your names?". So saying "my names are" is wrong is tantamount to saying "what are your names" is also wrong, which obviously is grammatical. Similarly, "what is your name" invokes an "is" no matter the number of times one has criminally changed one's names. The only solution then is to say, "I was known as John, Rego Banihyu and Santriaou".. Thus, the copular past tense verb, "was" "concords" with the status quo. What's more, "That's illiterate English" is an error hauled shamefully! "Illiterate English", is that another variant of some kind of world Englishes? "Illiterate" as an adjective means "English is an illiterate." "Illiterate" as a denominalised adjective means "English speakers embodied with illiteracy"! All these are meaningless and outrageous! Why not say, "the illiterate's English", "English of the illietrate" (for denominalisation of adjectives", etc?.. And also, "Comity of states" is grammatical but controversial in the political realm. So it shouldn't have come under the topic "Grammatical Murders" as it is very, very grammatical! Now, over to the technical realm, the word "comity" a polysemic word, among other meanings also means "an association of nations for their mutual benefit".. This can be termed "Federalism" and still would be correct. Furthermore, it can be termed "confederation" and still be correct. So how has the governor erred? The only problem there is his use of "states" instead of "nations" which obviously would have been redundant as "comity" already suggests "nations". In this light, "comity of states", apart from that controversial "state" which political scientists will oppose technically, that sentence is, in other aspects, sound and plausible. Do we not use "states" to mean "nations"? Is the US not comprise of "States"? Has Nigeria not "36 states"? Having said this, I dare reinstate my resolution that this OP lacks merit and grammatical grounds to critique what he himself is oblivious of! |

I agree with the judge on this, that the police, which is the executive arm should not interfer with the internal crisis of the executive arm. however, l will still disagree a bit on this on the ground that the police, whose function is to execute the law has the legal power to summon and interrogate any lawmaker who is tipped to have broken the law. in that case, the police is not "interfering, But are merely "doing their constitutional work"..

Meanwhile, Here is an awoof offer! are you a lover of Gurusloaded (Gltrends) blog and wish to have a clone of it as yours but don't know how to design one? there's no problem. mrvitalis:I am glad we still have objective thinkers and analyst here on NL. tbh, the cluelessness of GEJ is evident in the op. Of course the SE, knowing fully well, will always oppose such an idea even though it will benefit the entire nation why would GEJ nurture such idea in the first place?.and if however such idea is of National importance, why consult a fraction of a whole instead of the entire whole or even a vast majority of them? |

The President should reverse it to assuage the feelings of Ndigbo Former Vice President of Nigeria in the Second Republic, Dr. Alex Ekwueme has said that the plan to bring Boko Haram detainees to Aguata Prisons in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, was hatched during the former President Jonathan’s administration, but was resisted and protested against by the people which made the past administration to drop the idea. Dr Ekwueme Speaking with newsmen at Aguluzigbo, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State during the end of tenure Thanksgiving Ceremony of Chief Victor Umeh as APGA Chairman, Chief Ekwueme said, “I am aware that the plan of bringing Boko Haram detainees to Aguata prisons in Ekwulobia came up a while ago and there was reasonable protest to the then President Jonathan against it and he dropped the plan. “I was out of the country when I heard that Boko Haram detainees were brought to Aguata Prisons in Ekwulobia, Anambra State. I started wondering how the idea of bringing them to the South East and my local government area came up again after the people thought the matter has been rested. “I am sure the new President must have seen the records and proposal and decided to implement it, but since there was initial protest against the relocation of the detainees to the South East, I’m sure President Buhari will do something to assuage the feelings of the people of the South East,” he said. On the alleged delay in appointing ministers, Chief Ekwueme said he cannot start passing judgment now on the President because “every leader has his leadership style, everybody will not approach that exalted office with the same style. You have to watch and assess each person based on his style. The important thing is that we get the right result. “Another important thing is that we have peace, prosperity and unity, and better quality of life as Nigeria attains her God given-position as a great nation and leader in the comity of nations. “So, I wish the President well in running the affairs of Nigeria. I cannot start assessing his performance now, it is too early,” he said.. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/relocation-of-boko-haram-inmates-hatched-during-jonathans-govt-ekwueme/ |
