CareerAkinwande Leads Ogun Valuers In Nationwide Advocacy For Economic Prosperity by mrpossiboo(op): 11:29am On Jun 06
Estate Surveyors and Valuers across the country have called for greater public awareness and adoption of professional valuation practices as a critical tool for unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential and driving sustainable national prosperity.

The call was made during the 2026 National Valuation Day celebration, marked by a coordinated nationwide sensitization rally organized by the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) under the theme, “Unlocking Nigeria’s Wealth: How Valuation Builds Our Prosperity.”

The campaign, which took place simultaneously across major cities and state capitals, saw members of the profession engage the public on the importance of accurate asset valuation in wealth creation, investment planning, taxation, and economic development.

In Ogun State, estate surveyors and valuers embarked on an advocacy walk through Abeokuta, sensitizing residents on the indispensable role valuation plays in strengthening the economy and promoting national growth.

While speaking during the event, Estate Surveyor Ajibola Akinwande, a member of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, said the sensitization exercise was aimed at highlighting the significance of professional valuation and discouraging reliance on unprofessional assessments in property and asset transactions.

According to Akinwande, sustainable economic prosperity can only be achieved when assets such as land, infrastructure, and investments are professionally valued to provide accurate information for decision-making.

He noted that estate surveyors and valuers contribute significantly to wealth creation by providing reliable valuation data required for investment, taxation, financial inclusion, and capital growth.

“Professional valuation provides the clarity and certainty required for investment, taxation and economic planning. When assets are accurately valued, they can be effectively utilized to stimulate growth and create opportunities for individuals, businesses and governments,” he said.

Akinwande further stressed the need for Nigerians to embrace professional valuation standards, describing the practice as a strategic instrument for unlocking dormant economic assets and transforming them into productive resources.

He added that the profession has the capacity to unlock significant economic value across key sectors of the economy, including real estate, infrastructure development, taxation, and the oil and gas industry.

The nationwide campaign, according to the institution, forms part of ongoing efforts to promote awareness of the profession’s contribution to national development and encourage stakeholders to prioritize professional valuation in economic planning and asset management.

Participants at the rally maintained that accurate valuation remains a vital component of economic stability and sustainable development, emphasizing that Nigeria's journey toward greater prosperity depends on the effective identification, assessment, and utilization of its assets.

Abeokuta Ibara GRA Now Living Up to Expectations, Says Property Expert Akinwande

A prominent estate surveyor and Valuer, Ajibola Akinwande, has commended the Ogun State Government over the ongoing urban regeneration project in the Ibara area of Abeokuta.

Akinwande described the initiative as a major step toward restoring the prestige of the Government Reservation Area (GRA).

The award winning ESV, who spoke on a Channels Television interview, scored the project a “100 percent pass mark,” praising the government’s commitment to urban renewal through its Green Revolution initiative.

Akinwande, a real estate expert, who is also the General Manager of Barods Global Limited, said the ongoing transformation of the Ibara housing district has repositioned the area to reflect the standards expected of a modern and elite residential neighbourhood.

According to him, the project has successfully addressed years of inconsistent and uncoordinated development that previously diminished the status of the area.

“I think it is a really welcome idea in terms of urban renewal and regeneration,” Akinwande stated during the interview.

“I would say it is a 100 percent pass mark, being that Ibara is now living up to its expectation of a proper GRA,” he added.

While reflecting on the former condition of the neighborhood, Akinwande noted that some structures within the district failed to align with the architectural expectations of a Government Reservation Area.

“You know, at times you wonder when you travel within the length and breadth of the neighborhood, you see houses and developments that are not really matching with what a proper GRA should look like. But now, I think the trajectory has changed outrightly,” he said.

The estate surveyor also described the regeneration project as more than an aesthetic intervention, noting that it represents a strategic move toward harmonising property development with the vision of a modern city capital.

BusinessNDPHC Records Breakthrough In Power Asset Verification, Eyes Improved Grid Stabi by mrpossiboo(op): 10:19am On Apr 15
In a move that signals a paradigm shift in the management of Nigeria’s energy assets, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has successfully concluded rigorous Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for a high-capacity 1x15MVA 33/11kv transformer set for delivery to the Agbara Industrial Area Ogun State.

This moves seeks to deliver an unprecedented access to Grid connection for some unserved industries in the cluster that have prayed for this intervention for decades.

Under the visionary leadership of Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, this technical milestone represents a decisive "green light" for the deployment of world-class equipment and deployment of infrastructure, ensuring that every piece of equipment integrated into the national grid meets the highest global standards of quality, durability and efficiency.

The successful completion of these tests in India is far more than a routine inspection; it is a strategic safeguard against the technical failures that have historically plagued the power sector.

By subjecting these multi-million Naira assets to grueling performance simulations before they ever touch Nigerian soil, Adighije’s administration is effectively eliminating the risk of substandard hardware.

This proactive approach ensures that the new transformers are perfectly calibrated to withstand the unique load patterns and environmental rigors of the Nigerian landscape, thereby maximizing the lifespan of the nation’s power investments.

This initiative is a management philosophy championed by Engr. Adighije that prioritizes transparency, precision, and "eyes-on" leadership.

By personally overseeing the verification of these critical assets abroad, the NDPHC leadership has sent a clear message to international partners and domestic stakeholders alike: the era of passive procurement is over.

This hands-on oversight guarantees that the 1x15MVA transformers are not just functional, but optimized to significantly reduce technical losses that currently undermine electricity distribution across the federation.

The technical implications of this milestone are set to be felt directly by industries in Agbara that have since grappled with high costs of self-generated electricity.

The 1x15MVA transformer is specifically engineered to bolster substation capacity, acting as a critical bridge in the "stepping down" of high-voltage electricity for safer local consumption.

Once installed, these units will be providing the much-needed stability required to industries and illuminate communities that have long struggled with inconsistent supply.

Beyond the immediate engineering victory, this India mission underscores a deepening strategic partnership between Nigeria and global manufacturing powerhouses.

It fosters a culture of rigorous accountability, proving that the NDPHC is committed to a value-for-money plan where public funds are translated into tangible, high-performance hardware.

This international collaboration places Nigeria’s power sector on a pedestal of global best practices, attracting confidence from investors and development partners who see a modernized, disciplined approach to infrastructure growth.

As the NDPHC continues its aggressive drive to bridge the energy gap, Engr. Jennifer Adighije’s administration is being lauded for steering the agency away from the inefficient cycles of the past.

This latest triumph in India serves as a powerful testament to a new leadership era defined by technical excellence and an unwavering commitment to national progress. For a nation hungry for industrialization, these milestones are the building blocks of a modernized grid capable of powering Nigeria’s aspirations well into the future.

PoliticsEx-presidential Aspirant, Anakwenze Commiserates With Afenifere, Adebanjo's Fami by mrpossiboo(op): 5:48pm On Feb 17, 2025
A former Presidential aspirant under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze has commiserated with the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organization, Afenifere, and the family of the departed Chief Ayo Adebanjo over the passage of the elder statesman.

Adebanjo, a notable Afenifere chieftain, died peacefully in his sleep last Friday at his Lekki, Lagos home at 96.

In a statement on Sunday by his Director General, Comrade Eric Oluwole, Anakwenze said that the Country has lost a consistent, committed, principled and genuine advocate for a better Nigeria rebuilt on equity, fairness and Justice for all the composite ethnic groups, and that will be a shining example in the African continent and a pride of the Black Race worldwide.

He noted Adebanjo's exemplary sense of Justice, and his warmth towards all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic or social backgrounds, as typified in his adoption, support of, and even campaign for the Labour Party's candidate in the last Presidential Election,
Mr Peter Obi,where his own kinsman and long-time political associate, the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was also a candidate.

Anakwenze also recalled how the departed elder stateman welcomed him warmly into his home earlier when he visited him as a Presidential Aspirant under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to the statement: “While thanking the Almighty Father for granting our illustrious Pa Ayo Adebanjo the privilege of passing away quietly, and peacefully in his sleep at the ripe age of 96 years, we note with regret that Nigeria our dear Country has lost a golden and honestly dedicated voice in the advocacy for a better Nigeria that will stand on the platform of equity, fairness and Justice, and thereby be a blessing for all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic or social backgrounds.

“Pa Adebanjo's love of, and struggle for a new Nigeria was legendary as he demonstrated fiercely as a chieftain of NADECO, the arrow head of which was Afenifere, in the tortuous and bloody pro-democracy struggles that midwived the prevailing democratic dispensation.

“We also recall that Pa Adebanjo was until his passage, a brilliant, loyal and dedicated disciple of the departed sage, the legendary Chief Obafemi Awolowo whose Premiership of the defunct Western Region transformed the Region to an economic miracle that transformed the Region and attracted other Regions to follow suit, and whose struggles as the Leader of Opposition at the national level engendered national political development.

“I pray that Pa Adebanjo be accompanied by helpers as he shed his physical body to begin his natural and normal journey into the Beyond in continuation of his existence and journeying towards Paradise, the luminous Kingdom of the Almighty Father wherein the blessed dwell and serve joyfully our Creator.

“Fare thee well our own Pa Ayo Adebanjo.”

PoliticsProfessor Umerah Hails Supreme Court Judgment On LG Autonomy, Lauds President Ti by mrpossiboo(op): 11:52am On Jul 14, 2024
Professor Umerah Hails Supreme Court Judgment on LG Autonomy, Lauds President Tinubu

An American-based Professor of Medicine, philanthropist and President Public Policy Advocacy and Research Council (PPARC) Prof. Emeka Umerah, has hailed the Supreme Court judgment which ordered that federal allocations should henceforth be paid directly to the nation's 774 Local Governments rather than through state governments.

In a statement signed on sunday on behalf of PPARC President by Eric Oluwole; The Program Director of Public Policy Advocacy and Research Council (Africa Desk), Prof commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his rare courage and statesmanship in instituting the suit.

Prof Emeka Umerah believed that the Supreme Court judgment is epochal in that for the first time in many years, the local administrations at the grassroots will now have direct access to their full monthly allocations from the Federation Account.

He said: "With this judgment, our Local Governments constituting the third tier of government, and which are closest to our suffering people at the grassroots, will now have adequate funds to cater for the immediate needs of our highly expectant people at the grassroots.

"What the Supreme Court judgment has done is that it has removed a major impediment to real development at the local level.

"It has freed the councils from their long term subjection to the whims and caprices of state governors, many of who unfortunately have been diverting funds meant for development in the councils to other areas unilaterally dictated by them.

"With this landmark judgment, our Local Governments constituting the third tier of government, and which are closest to our suffering people at the grassroots, will now have adequate funds to cater for the immediate needs of our highly expectant people at the grasroots.

"It is noteworthy that President Tinubu, as a former Lagos State Governor introduced the Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs for the first time in this country to further bring government closer to the common people at the grassroots, and thereby tackle headlong the grinding poverty which has made Nigeria a leading poverty capital in the world.

"Also, the Supreme Court by this judgment has thrown open the gate to the much-expected restructuring of our lopsided federation to restore health to our dear fatherland, for which Nigerians generslly have been clamouring for.

"President Tinubu deserves kudos of all well meaning Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora for initiating the suit leading to this most remarkable judgment as foundation for building a new Nigeria for all the citizens.'

In its judgment on Thursday, the Supreme Court had barred governors from th Governments' funds.

Besides, it declared that governors lack the constitutional power to dissolve Local Governments' recognised by the Constitution.
.
It therefore nullified the Joint Account Allocation Committe, JAAC. operated jointly by the states and councils.

The Supreme Court on Thursday, declared that it is unconstitutional for state governors to hold on to funds meant for Local Government administrations.

Also, it barred governors from dissolving democratically elected Local Government councils in the country.

It declared in a landmark judgement that doing so, would amount to a breach of the 1999 Constitution.

In its lead judgement, read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court observed that the refusal of state governments on financial autonomy for local governments has gone on for over two decades.

Justice Agim said that local governments has since stopped receiving the money meant for them from the state governors who act in their stead.

He ordered that the 774 local government councils in the country should manage their funds themselves.

He dismissed the preliminary objections of the defendants (state governors).

In the suit filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Federal Government sought an order preventing the governors from arbitrarily dissolving democratically elected councils.

The suit by the AGF was on 27 grounds.

Justice Agim said the AGF has the right to institute the suit and protect the constitution.

The apex court consequently directed that Local Government allocation from the Federation Account should be paid directly to them henceforth.

The 36 state governors, defendants in the suit, opposed the AGF for instituting the case.

The Supreme Court, however, said the defendants (governors) just wasted their time in the suit.

The highest court of the land also granted financial autonomy to the 774 local government councils in the country.

It scolded governors for their decades-long refusal of autonomy for local governments.

The Court dismissed the preliminary objections of the defendants (state governors).

The apex court directed that Local Government allocations from the Federation Account should be paid directly to them henceforth, and not to state government coffers.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN presented the case of the Federal Government, while the 36 state governors presented their own cases through their lawyers.

CelebritiesShow Promoter Romaric Boco Slams French Embassy Over "Discriminatory Visa Denial by mrpossiboo(op): 9:40am On Jul 07, 2024

Africa is still tied to the apron strings of the so-called developed countries across the world. And this is evident in the unfair treatment of Africans seeking visas to Europe and other destinations around the globe.

And one is exempted from this humiliation - from business people to students, tales abound across the African continent about humiliation suffered by African visa applicants in the hands of foreign embassies.

The latest victim of the second-class treatment of Africans is Romaric Boco, a France-based show promoter and founder of the One Benin Fiesta, one of the largest show production companies licensed by the Ministry of Culture of the French Republic.

Despite his reputation as one of the registered show promoters in France, Boco is having a really tough time in getting visas for artistes billed to perform at his One Benin Fiesta show scheduled for July 6, 2024.

According to Boco, the headline artist for the One Benin Fiesta is Small Doctor who is expected in France alongside others including a Disc Jockey (DJ) and others. To his utter shock, the artistes were denied visas according to the French Embassy because "they have reasonable doubts as your intention to leave France after the show".

But according to Boco, the ground for the visa rejection is laughable.

Apart from being a household name in France, the headline artist, Small Doctor is not a small fry in the African entertainment scene. So, there's no basis for any suspicions about the artistes returning to their base after the show.

Providing relevant documents to back up his claims, Boco said that he followed due process. And did everything that was required by the French Embassy.

Narrating his ordeal, the disappointed show promoter alleged that he lost a lot of money after investing heavily on the show including payment of deposit for the show venue and other expenses. Now, he has been forced to postpone the show to the end of August, 2024.

Besides being a platform for the promotion of cultural diversity, the proceeds from the tour is used for the One Benin Zero Poverty project, an initiative promoting entrepreneurship in Africa and the fight against illegal immigration of young people in West Africa.

Boco also urged African leaders to step up efforts in reducing the high rate of unfair visa rejection by foreign embassies.

PoliticsWe'll Not Allow Militia Group To Turn Ogun Forest Reserves To Sambisa, Oludotun by mrpossiboo(op): 8:57am On Jun 20, 2024
The Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr Taiwo Oludotun, has vowed to take action against illegal occupants of the state's nine forest reserves.

Speaking at a press conference held at his Okemosan office in Abeokuta, the state capital, Oludotun stated that the illegal occupants are causing economic losses and security threats by destroying conserved tree species and building structures within the reserves.

The commissioner specifically mentioned the Omo Forest Reserve, where illegal occupants have built houses and cultivated cocoa farms, leading to the destruction of preserved tree species.

He denied allegations of brutalization of the illegal occupants, explaining that the ministry had held meetings with them and advised them to stop their activities.

Oludotun accused the inhabitants of Etemi Gerald, a natural heritage area within the Omo Reserve, of engaging in nefarious activities, including building houses and cultivating cocoa farms without permission.

He alleged that they had also attacked security operatives and stockpiled arms and ammunition.

The commissioner emphasized that the state government would not allow illegal activities to continue in the forest reserves, which are meant to be protected for research and conservation purposes.

The forest Commissioner also warned the illegal occupants to vacate the reserves or face consequences.

According to him "It is a known fact that farming and erection of permanent structures within the forest reserves without the consent of the State government is illegal"

"The Ministry held series of meetings with them, where they were warned to desist from the wanton destruction of the National heritage"

"The inhabitants of Etemi Gerald continued the expansion of Cocoa farms and structures in the prohibited areas. All efforts to stop them from further expansion of their cocoa farms into Queen's forest of the conservation zone proved abortive.

"Surprisingly, they constituted themselves as Militant groups in the area, stockpiled arms and ammunition with which they attack people and security agents"

One of the Militant groups spearheaded by Mr Akinlolu Kehinde who is a kingpin in that area has on many occasions hindered the officials of the Ministry from performing their official assignments"

Engr. Oludotun hinted that the ministry after series of warnings, commenced the destruction of illegal farms and structures in the forest reserves, one of such destruction was recently carried out on 20th March 2024 adding that the destruction was carried out in conjunction with the law enforcement agency officers of Nigeria Police.

He said, during the demolition exercise, the team that went for the operation were fired at by unknown group of Militant men hidden in the forest reserve but were subdued by the security team that accompanied the Ministry's officials and a total of twenty three illegal buildings were demolished in the area.

Our correspondent reports that the Commissioner stance was aimed at safeguarding the state's forest reserves for future generations and preventing further economic losses and security threats.

He recalled the sacrifices made by the heroes and heroines of Nigeria's democracy, and their organisations including President Tinubu, to validate the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, which was won by the departed multimillionaire publisher and philanthropist, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, but which was annulled by the military junta headed by Gen Ibrahim Babangida.

Specifically, Prof Umerah credited the administration with the following projects:

* The concrete-paved road to the nation’s major ports in Apapa and Tin Can Island. The reconstructed road, which began during the Muhammadu Buhari Administration, was financed by the Dangote Group, using its tax credits.

* Efforts at tackling corruption, initiating economic reforms and enhancing infrastructure development across the nation to stimulate national progress.

* Award of the Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu road project, the Abuja light rail, the national assembly renovation, Lagos-Calabar Coastal project, and several others,

* Ongoing several reform initiatives aimed at revitalising the economy, including efforts to improve the ease of doing business, attract foreign investment and diversify the economic base away from oil dependency.

He advised the President to faithfully implement the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 campaign mantra, anchored on a policy document titled Renewed Hope.

He believed that the policy document, which prioritised national security, economy, agriculture, power, oil and gas, transportation, education, the digital economy, sport, entertainment and culture, youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, women empowerment, social programs, judicial reforms, federalism and decentralisation of power and foreign policy, among others, is capable of transforming the economy soon.

BusinessLawmaker Faults Dangote Foundation's Claims On Food Intervention Program by mrpossiboo(op): 10:40pm On May 24, 2024
Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Yewa North (II) Ketu State Constituency, has disputed claims that the Aliko Dangote Foundation's food intervention program benefited all of Yewa North's host communities.

Despite reports that 17 host communities of the Dangote Cement plant in Ibese, along with residents of Itori, Igbogila, and Ilaro, received allocations on May 23, 2024, Hon. Wahab argued that the program did not cover all of Yewa North, particularly the Ibese Dangote host communities.

The lawmaker pointed out that if Igbogila was included as a host community, what about Eggua, Iselu, Igan Alade, Ebute, Ijoun, Ohunbe, Imashai, Igan Okoto, and other communities that are also closer to Dangote Cement.

He emphasized that it would have been ideal if the Dangote Foundation had covered all of the host communities, given the damage the factory is causing to those communities through air pollution, road destruction by trucks, and accidents involving trucks, among other issues.

Hon. Wahab revealed that none of his constituents benefited from the program, as some of the communities under his leadership are also part of Dangote Cement's host communities.

The lawmaker also criticized the Dangote Foundation for not completing the entire Yewa North host communities and already planning the next phase in other locations, such as Ijebu-Igbo communities, which host Dangote Granite Mines, and pledging to distribute over one million 10kg bags of rice across Nigeria's 774 local government areas, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), at an estimated cost of N15 billion.
