Stakeholders Laud OGFTZ’s Role in Advancing Education in Host Communities

Education stakeholders and community leaders in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, have commended the Ogun–Guangdong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ) for its investments in educational development, particularly the establishment of the China–Nigeria Friendship Model School, scholarship opportunities and programmes aimed at identifying and nurturing young talents.

The stakeholders, who spoke with journalists during a recent visit to the host communities, said the Zone’s interventions had contributed to improving access to education, supporting academic development and creating opportunities for children and young people.

They, however, called on the OGFTZ management to sustain and expand its educational initiatives to accommodate more beneficiaries across its host communities.

Speaking on the Zone’s contributions, Mr Joseph Ibikunle, Head of Academics and School Services at the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Education Authority, described its educational interventions over the past 15 years as remarkable.

Ibikunle noted that the Zone had consistently supported schools through infrastructure development, the provision of educational materials and scholarship opportunities for deserving students.

According to him, the interventions had helped improve the learning environment and provided additional opportunities for children in the benefiting communities.

“OGFTZ has been contributing to educational development in this community for about 15 years, and its interventions are worthy of commendation. The support in infrastructure, educational materials and scholarships has made a difference in the lives of our learners,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to the management of the Zone, urging it to sustain the initiatives and extend its support to more schools and students.

Also speaking, High Chief Ezekiel Adewumi Durojaiye, the Otunba Amona of Igbesa, identified the establishment of the China–Nigeria Friendship Model School as one of the most significant educational contributions of the Zone to the community.

He observed that the presence of the school and the growing relationship between Igbesa and China had become a notable feature of the community, with some residents and visitors jokingly referring to the town as “China in Nigeria.”

Durojaiye described the school as a welcome development, recalling discussions surrounding its establishment during the visit of the Chinese Consul-General.

He expressed optimism that the institution would continue to expand, particularly through the introduction of secondary and, eventually, tertiary education.

In a similar vein, Chief Ajidagba Jamiu, family head of Ilu Idofin in Igbesa, highlighted the direct impact of the Zone’s educational initiatives on his family, disclosing that four of his children had attended the China–Nigeria Friendship School.

He also revealed that some indigenes of the community had benefited from scholarships sponsored by OGFTZ to study in China, adding that some of the beneficiaries had completed their studies and were now working in their respective professional fields.

While appreciating the Zone for the opportunities, Jamiu appealed for an expansion of the scholarship scheme to accommodate more students.

“Four of my children have attended the China–Nigeria Friendship School, and I have also seen indigenes of this community benefit from scholarships to study in China. Some of them have completed their education and are now working,” he said.

“I want to appeal to the management to increase the number of scholarship opportunities so that more of our children can benefit. Education is a valuable investment, and giving more young people access to it will also benefit the community in the long run.”

The Chairman of the Igbesa Educational Committee, Alhaji Saheed Animashaun, also commended the Zone for its educational and student development programmes, particularly initiatives organised in the host communities over the past three years.

According to him, OGFTZ has maintained a consistent interest in organising activities that promote children's education, talent development and personal growth.

He identified the annual Children's Day celebrations, which bring together primary and secondary school pupils, as one of the platforms through which the Zone recognises and encourages young learners.

Animashaun said the Zone had also organised academic, sporting and cultural competitions, including quiz and recitation contests, football, athletics and dancing competitions, to provide students with opportunities to showcase their abilities.

“These programmes give our children the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do beyond the classroom. Through the competitions, we have discovered that our public schools are filled with intelligent, talented and promising pupils,” he said.

He added that the initiatives had helped build students' confidence, encouraged healthy competition and provided opportunities for young people to discover their talents.

The committee chairman further disclosed that participating students were rewarded with various gifts and prizes, including musical instruments, mowing machines, educational materials and other useful items.

He described the incentives as additional motivation for students to improve their performance and pursue excellence.

Ogun Central City Boy Movement Rallies Over 3,000 Supporters for Tinubu, Yayi



The Ogun Central Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Ambassador Lekan Egbetola Olalekan, has urged South-West residents to return President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to office in 2027, citing student loans, road infrastructure, empowerment programmes and grassroots development as reasons for supporting his administration's continuity.

Egbetola also called for support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He made the appeal on Thursday at a mega rally organised by the Obafemi Owode Local Government Chapter of the City Boy Movement.

Our correspondent reports that the rally, held at All Saints School, Owode Egba, attracted over 3,000 supporters, including residents and APC members in the community.

While speaking at the event, Egbetola urged coordinators of the movement across Ogun State to emulate the Obafemi Owode chapter by taking the initiative in organising grassroots engagement programmes to strengthen political mobilisation.

He described the rally as an example for other local government coordinators, stressing the need for them to demonstrate commitment and take the lead in engaging residents.

"This is a particular example for other local government coordinators to see the need and take the lead," he said.

He added that the turnout should encourage other coordinators and their representatives to intensify mobilisation efforts in their respective local government areas.

Earlier, Ojeleye said Obafemi Owode was the first among Ogun State's 20 local government areas to organise a mega rally of this nature.

She explained that the initiative was aimed at educating residents, particularly youths, about the forthcoming elections and encouraging their participation in the political process.

Ojeleye said her decision to organise the rally was informed by her assessment of the Tinubu administration's performance and her desire to bring information about its programmes and the movement's empowerment initiatives closer to residents.

"When I sat down and looked at everything, I told my leaders that in my local government, I wanted to do this to tell my people and our youth about our progress," she said.

She added that the rally was also designed to strengthen the movement's ongoing registration exercise and mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu, Yayi and other APC candidates.

On the preparations, she acknowledged the support of the movement's leadership, ward coordinators, women leaders and other grassroots supporters, who assisted in mobilising residents across towns and communities.

"When I presented the idea to my leaders, they fully embraced it and supported us to go into the towns, houses and villages to mobilise the youths," she said.

While expressing satisfaction with the turnout, Ojeleye urged residents to participate actively in the forthcoming elections.

Members of the City Boy Movement in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Thursday turned out in large numbers to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.

While speaking on the rationale behind the rally, the Obafemi Owode Local Government Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Abimbola Ojeleye, said the chapter was the first among Ogun State’s 20 local government areas to organise a mega rally of this nature.

She said the initiative was aimed at educating residents, particularly youths, about the forthcoming elections and encouraging their participation in the political process.

Ojeleye explained that the decision to organise the rally was informed by her assessment of the Tinubu administration’s performance and her desire to bring information about its programmes and the movement’s empowerment initiatives closer to residents.

Her words “When I sat down and looked at everything, I told my leaders that in my local government, I wanted to do this to tell my people and our youth about our progress".

She added that the rally was also intended to strengthen the movement’s ongoing registration exercise and mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu, Yayi and other APC candidates.

On the preparations for the event, Ojeleye acknowledged the support of the movement’s leadership, ward coordinators, women leaders and other grassroots supporters, who helped mobilise residents across communities.

“When I presented the idea to my leaders, they fully embraced it and supported us to go into the towns, houses and villages to mobilise the youths,” she said.

While expressing satisfaction with the turnout, she urged residents to participate actively in the forthcoming elections.

OGFTZ Highlights Roads, Scholarships, Healthcare in Community Development Drive

…Road Projects Estimated to Benefit Over 350,000 People

The Ogun–Guangdong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ) has highlighted its contributions to community development through road infrastructure, educational support, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture and access to clean water, with its road projects estimated to benefit more than 350,000 people.

The Administrative Manager of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Mr Steven Makanjuola, highlighted the socioeconomic significance of the Zone and its community development initiatives while speaking with journalists during a press conference held at the Zone’s premises on Tuesday.

Makanjuola emphasized the importance of OGFTZ’s industrial presence and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in promoting economic opportunities and improving the welfare of residents in its host communities.

He described the Zone as a platform for strengthening economic relations between Nigeria and China, noting that its presence creates opportunities for investment, employment, business development and broader community advancement.

“If Igbesa was my village, I wouldn’t just build a house there; I’ll have a business presence here,” he said, describing Igbesa as fortunate to host the free trade zone.

Providing details of the Zone’s community development initiatives, OGFTZ’s Public Relations Manager, Mr Tope Anthony, explained that its interventions extend beyond industrial investment to include practical programmes designed to improve livelihoods, expand opportunities and support sustainable development in its host communities.

Tope noted that these initiatives complement the Zone’s core mandate of attracting investment, promoting industrialization, generating employment and strengthening economic cooperation between Nigeria and China.

On education, he said OGFTZ had established and sustained the China–Nigeria Friendship School in Igbesa for more than 14 years. The school currently serves over 700 pupils and has been recognized by education stakeholders as one of the leading public primary schools in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

He added that the Zone pioneered an inter-school knowledge competition involving public schools across its host communities, with more than 10,000 students benefiting from the initiative over the years.

According to Tope, OGFTZ has also supported public schools with educational and extracurricular materials, including sound systems, sewing machines, musical instruments, sports equipment, stationery and food items. Cash prizes have equally been awarded to outstanding schools to encourage academic excellence and promote healthy competition among students.

He further disclosed that the Zone operates a free Chinese language school for students in its host communities and has awarded fully funded scholarships to indigenes to study in China, providing opportunities for international exposure, language development and cultural exchange.

On healthcare, Tope said OGFTZ had constructed a modern hospital block for the community, periodically donated medical supplies to healthcare facilities and organized medical outreaches to improve residents’ access to healthcare services.

Infrastructure development, he noted, remains a major component of the Zone’s community interventions. He cited the construction of roads connecting communities, including the Oba Adesola Market Road, which has improved access to commercial activities in Igbesa.

The road projects are estimated to benefit more than 350,000 people by improving mobility, facilitating trade and strengthening connections between communities and commercial centers.

Tope also highlighted OGFTZ’s annual youth empowerment programme, through which young people have received grants and business starter kits to establish or expand their businesses.

He said the Zone had established a solar-powered community water facility providing access to water for more than 5,000 people. In addition, 20 widows have received support to establish or expand their businesses as part of efforts to promote women's economic empowerment and financial independence.

In agriculture, he explained that OGFTZ’s agronomy programme had trained hundreds of farmers and provided beneficiaries with starter kits to support farming activities, improve productivity and strengthen livelihoods.

He added that the Zone’s sponsorship of community sports activities had contributed to youth development and talent discovery, with more than 2,000 young people benefiting from the programmes.


Beyond these interventions, the Zone’s industrial activities provide wider economic opportunities through employment generation, demand for local services, skills development and business partnerships. Its position as a link between Nigerian and Chinese businesses also creates opportunities for investment, technology exchange and skills transfer.


While acknowledging the progress made, Makanjoula noted that community development remained an ongoing process and that the Zone recognized the need to address emerging challenges and the evolving needs of its host communities.

The family of Hon. Rasak Oluwakemi Daddah, alongside Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and other prominent dignitaries, on Monday, October 26, 2026, gathered at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, for the eighth-day Fidau prayer and final burial ceremony of Alhaja Sherifat Ayinke Daddah, née Kalejaiye.

The 72-year-old matriarch was celebrated for her compassion, entrepreneurial accomplishments, devotion to her family and commitment to caring for children, including those beyond her immediate family.

Governor Abiodun, who joined political leaders, traditional rulers, Islamic clerics and other sympathisers at the ceremony, said the deceased’s positive impact on the lives of others would remain an enduring part of her legacy.

He urged the bereaved family to draw strength from their faith and uphold the values of kindness, humility and generosity exemplified by the deceased.

Reflecting on the family’s loss, the governor acknowledged the pain of losing a loved one, noting that adversity could befall anyone, regardless of their character or standing in society.

He urged the family to accept the circumstances with faith in Almighty God, adding that the lives people touched through their good deeds often constituted their most enduring legacy.

Abiodun particularly commended the late Alhaja Daddah for extending her maternal care to children who were not her biological offspring, describing her generosity and concern for others as qualities worthy of emulation.

He noted that public office, wealth and social status were temporary, while the positive impact of an individual’s life could endure long after death.

On behalf of his family, the people and the Ogun State Government, the governor commiserated with the Daddah and Kalejaiye families and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.

In an emotional tribute, her son, Hon. Rasak Daddah, described his mother as his strength, support system and pillar, admitting that he was still struggling to come to terms with her death.

Addressing her affectionately as Mummy and Iya Rasaki, he said she was an extraordinary woman whose life taught him the importance of service, neighbourliness, modesty, reconciliation and helping others.

He also credited her with instilling in him the values of entrepreneurship, hard work and perseverance, which, he said, were reflected in her own business journey.

According to him, his mother began her trading activities with rice before expanding into the importation of fabrics, flat plates, dinner sets and other household items. She later ventured into the export of agricultural produce, including cashew nuts, chilli peppers, ginger, shea nuts and sesame seeds.

Her business engagements took her to several destinations, including China, Thailand, South Korea, Austria and Mumbai, India, where she pursued opportunities across different sectors.

Daddah expressed gratitude for his mother’s sacrifices and support in helping him establish himself in business and pursue a career in politics, describing her as a constant source of encouragement throughout his journey.

He said her absence was particularly painful as he looked towards his ambition of representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2027, expressing sadness that she might not live to witness the outcome of the sacrifices she had made for him.

“But God knows best,” he said.

Describing his mother as his first home, quiet strength and safest harbour, Daddah said her unconditional love, laughter and the values she instilled in him would continue to guide his life.

He concluded his tribute with a prayer for Allah to grant her Al-Jannatul Firdaus, the highest level of Paradise.

The ceremony attracted political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, Islamic clerics, media representatives, family members and other sympathisers who gathered to pay their last respects and identify with the bereaved family.

Among the dignitaries acknowledged at the ceremony were Senator Adeola, popularly known as Yayi; Senator Lekan Mustapha; Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi; and Commissioner for Finance, Dapo Okubadejo.

Others included the APC Ogun State Vice Chairman, Hon. James Dina; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ogun State Housing Corporation, Hon. Yemi Adelani; Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Lateef Temitayo Aramide Lawal; and Special Adviser on Special and General Duties, Hon. Babatunde Olawunmi.

Also present were Hon. Lukman Adeleye, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Otunba Dr. Abdulfalil Abayomi Odunowo, Hon. Funmi Efuwape, representatives of the Teaching Service Commission and other political and public office holders.

The gathering also included Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kalejaiye, a cousin of the deceased, and media representatives, including the Chief Executive of Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu.

Traditional rulers at the ceremony included the Moyegeso of Itele, Oba Adewoye, and the Lipa of Molipa, Oba Adeyemi Odunbena, alongside other royal fathers.

Islamic clerics in attendance included the Grand Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo; the Naibu of Ijebuland, Alhaji Eyinfunjowo Nureni Alakewu; the Eketa Adinni of Ijebuland, Alhaji Abdulwahab Adeniyi; the day's preacher, Alhaji Ademoye; and Mufti Alhaji Shile Rufai.

The late Alhaja Daddah held several religious leadership positions, including Iya Adinni of Ansarudeen of Ijebuland, Iya Adinni of Shabab Raodatul Islam in Lagos State, Iya Adinni of Ansarudeen, Okota, Lagos State, and Osupa Adinni of the Raodatul Ni'mat Society of Nigeria.

The Fidau ceremony, organised by the Daddah and Kalejaiye families, provided an opportunity to reflect on the life and contributions of a woman whose influence extended beyond her immediate family to her business associates and the children and individuals she supported.

Through the tributes at the gathering, Alhaja Sherifat Ayinke Daddah was remembered as a devoted mother, accomplished entrepreneur and compassionate caregiver whose legacy of service, generosity and care is expected to endure through the lives she touched.

OSA Movement Convener, Olarewaju, Bags Regional Youth Honour for Community Service

The Convener of OSA Movement and founder of the OSA Charity Foundation, Hon. Solomon Sunday Olarewaju, who is also the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor and a stakeholder of the CityBoy Movement in Ado-Odo Constituency II, has been appointed a West African Youth Ambassador by the West Africa Youth Council (WAYC) and honoured with the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity.

The dual recognition, according to the announcement by the council, acknowledges Olarewaju’s commitment to humanitarian service, youth development and community engagement.

Olarewaju has also commended the CityBoy Movement for its grassroots mobilisation and efforts to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu and the Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, in the 2027 elections.

In an appointment letter signed by the President of WAYC, Ambassador Emmanuel S. William, the council cited Olanrewaju’s dedication, diligence and contributions to the advancement of young people as factors behind his selection.

Through the OSA Charity Foundation, he has supported interventions in healthcare, education and economic empowerment, including the provision of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration forms for students from low-income backgrounds and assistance for an indigent resident requiring cataract surgery and medication.

The foundation has also organised a free medical outreach that reportedly served more than 400 residents with medical consultations, treatment for minor ailments and free medication.

Other interventions include the distribution of food items to widows and vulnerable households, the provision of vocational tools and seed funding to young people, and the facilitation of health insurance registration for more than 100 residents under the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme.

A media and broadcast professional by training, Olarewaju studied Broadcasting, Radio, Television and Film, with a specialisation in Television Production, at Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology in Canada. He also obtained a diploma in International Business from Seneca College, Toronto.

His professional experience includes participation in major productions and live broadcast assignments, including Canada's Got Talent, the Canada Summer Games 2022 and the Niagara College National Para Hockey Championships.

Former member of the House of Representatives and Secretary of the Ogun State APC 2027 Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Babatunde Samuel Adejare has urged Ijebu youths to look beyond the agitation for state creation and embrace entrepreneurship, innovation, and skilled professions as pathways to economic self-reliance.


Adejare who spoke through Hon. (Barr.) Solomon Oluwaseyi Osho, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly during the 9th Assembly and Mayegun of Isara-Remo, who delivered a lecture on his behalf at the Ijebu Youth Summit 2026, organised by the Ijebu Youth Association National Body.


Other speakers at the event include the former Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State, Dr Odedina & Chairman of the Occasion, Otunba Dr Kunle Hassan, the Founder of Eye Foundation Hospital amongst other dignitaries.

Speaking on the theme, “Beyond White Collar Jobs: Empowering Ijebu Youths for Entrepreneurship, Self-Reliance, and Building Consensus for the Creation of Our Dream State – Why Development Matters More Than Nomenclature,” Osho said the future of the region depended largely on its ability to create opportunities for young people.

He urged the youths to draw inspiration from the history of Ijebuland, particularly its tradition of commerce, entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and community organisation.

According to him, success should no longer be defined solely by securing salaried employment, urging young people to become entrepreneurs, innovators, skilled professionals, and job creators.

Osho said the region’s proximity to Lagos, industrial estates, agricultural resources, transportation networks, and the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport presented opportunities that could be harnessed to create jobs and attract investment.

He said, “A name can define a territory, but development defines a civilisation. Our greatest monument will not be the name of the state we create, but the lives we improve.”

On the agitation for the creation of a proposed Ijebu/Remo state, the lawmaker called for a measured approach anchored on constitutional awareness, improved governance, economic opportunities, and better living standards.

He also cautioned against allowing disagreements over the proposed state's name, boundaries, capital, or political dominance to create divisions among the people.

Osho advocated dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation among stakeholders, saying the ultimate objective should be to build a society where young people can establish businesses, prosper within their communities, and contribute meaningfully to development.

He said the state-creation conversation should, therefore, be approached from the perspective of what would deliver tangible benefits to the people rather than focusing solely on nomenclature.

Ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun, High Chief Olalekan Tunde Ishola, popularly known as TJ, has been appointed Deputy State Constituency Coordinator for Ogun Central in the campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.


Our correspondent reports that Ishola’s appointment is part of the 74-member campaign council recently unveiled by Senator Adeola as the APC begins to strengthen its political structures ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Akinwande Urges Youths to Embrace Integrity, Legislative Engagement at MAPOLY Summit




A member of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Ajibola Akinwande, has urged Nigerian youths to actively participate in the country's democratic process, stressing that young people must move beyond voting to becoming key players in legislative engagement and nation-building.

Akinwande made the call while delivering a keynote address at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Students' Representative Council Legislative Summit held at the institution in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Speaking on the theme, "Youth as Catalysts for Change: Advancing Democratic Governance Through Legislative Engagement," Akinwande said Nigeria's youthful population must begin to influence policies and governance by understanding the legislative process and participating in civic activities.

The Guest Speakers at the event included, Comrade Kehinde Tajudeen, lecturer, department of Mass Communication Institute of Technology Igbesa, Comrade Olamide Lawal, SA to Ogun State Governor on Youth Development, Amb. Dr. Rotimi Taylor-George, SA to Ogun State Governor.

Addressing the students, the estate surveyor and valuer, who is also an alumnus of the institution, noted that while over 70 percent of Nigeria's population is under the age of 35, young people are often absent where critical decisions affecting their future are made.

He described youths as catalysts capable of transforming society through innovation, leadership and active participation rather than waiting for opportunities.

According to him, legislation goes beyond lawmaking, explaining that it serves as a mechanism for solving societal problems, representing citizens, ensuring accountability and protecting public resources.

Akinwande encouraged students to take legislative matters seriously, noting that virtually every aspect of their lives—from education and tuition to employment, taxation, housing and the digital economy—is influenced by laws enacted by legislators.

"Democracy does not begin and end on election day. Voting gives you a voice, but your continuous engagement gives that voice influence," he said.

He identified five practical ways youths can advance democratic governance through legislative engagement, including understanding the legislative process, participating beyond elections, holding elected representatives accountable, developing policy-making capacity, and preparing for leadership with integrity.

Akinwande also challenged the students to reject common misconceptions that often discourage young people from aspiring to leadership, insisting that age, financial status or lack of political connections should never be barriers to public service.

Drawing from his personal journey, he recounted his rise from serving as President of the Estate Management Students Association at MAPOLY and a student senator under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to becoming the Best Graduating Student in the School of Environmental Studies, Student Union President during his university days, a Chartered Estate Surveyor and Valuer, and currently General Manager of a leading real estate firm.

He attributed his achievements to consistent preparation and self-development, emphasizing that "when preparation meets opportunity, success becomes inevitable."

Akinwande urged the students to prioritize integrity, competence, empathy, vision and courage, describing the qualities as essential attributes of effective legislators and leaders.

The Convener of the Omidan Ogun Beauty Pageant, Miss. Onanuga Damilola Owoyemi, has unveiled an ambitious vision for the cultural pageant, describing it as a platform designed not only to celebrate beauty but also to preserve Ogun State's rich heritage, empower young women, and promote socio-economic development.

Speaking on the objectives of the initiative, Onanuga said the pageant, organised under Royal Regale, is a prominent cultural and socio-economic empowerment platform established to celebrate the history, character, intelligence, and pride of the people of Ogun State.

According to her, Omidan Ogun is more than a conventional beauty contest, as it seeks to inspire young women to become responsible leaders, cultural ambassadors, and agents of positive change in their communities.

The Executive Director of JOSLAEC International Limited, Ambassador Shoyoye O. Johnson, has called on Nigerians to embrace national unity and celebrate the safe return of the pupils and teachers abducted in Orire, Oyo State, rather than allowing political differences to overshadow the successful rescue.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Shoyoye described the release of the victims after 56 days in captivity as a moment of joy and thanksgiving, noting that the development brought relief to families and Nigerians, particularly residents of the South-West.

The recurring demand by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other labour unions for periodic upward reviews of the national minimum wage is both constitutional and understandable. Weak consumer protection mechanisms, inconsistent market regulation, corruption within some regulatory institutions, and policy implementation gaps across different levels of government also contribute to the high cost of living experienced by ordinary citizens.

Equally important is the need to strengthen local production. A nation that depends heavily on imports inevitably places additional pressure on its foreign exchange reserves and national currency. Supporting agriculture, manufacturing, technology, renewable energy, and small and medium-scale enterprises will not only create employment but also reduce import dependence and improve economic resilience.

For these reasons, my humble appeal to the NLC, TUC, and other labour organisations is to broaden the focus of their advocacy. Alongside negotiations for improved wages, equal attention should be given to policies that permanently improve the economic environment. These include effective fuel pricing and distribution reforms, stronger consumer protection and price monitoring, investment in sustainable energy solutions, efficient public transportation, anti-corruption measures, and policies that stimulate domestic production and industrial growth.

Ultimately, the true measure of economic progress is not how frequently salaries are increased but how much value those salaries retain. A ₦70,000 minimum wage in a stable, productive economy with affordable living costs may provide greater economic security than a ₦300,000 minimum wage in an economy overwhelmed by persistent inflation.

Nigeria's long-term prosperity will depend on policies that increase productivity, protect consumers, encourage investment, and preserve the purchasing power of every citizen. That should remain our collective national objective.

A socio-political group, the Daytayo Progressive Movement (DPM), has announced plans to stage a mega rally in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State in support of the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), the re-election bid of Hon. Lukman Adeleye for the Ogun State House of Assembly, and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The group, led by former House of Assembly aspirant for Odogbolu State Constituency and current Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor, Hon. Moshood Adetayo Abubakar, popularly known as Daytayo.


Hon. Daytayo revealed that the rally is part of ongoing efforts to mobilise grassroots support for the APC and its candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Our correspondent gathered that the mega rally is scheduled to hold on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Odogbolu Motor Park/Garage., and is expected to attract party faithful, supporters, community leaders, youths, women groups and other stakeholders from across the local government area.

While speaking to journalists on the planned rally, Daytayo explained that the event is aimed at demonstrating the overwhelming support enjoyed by President Tinubu, Senator Adeola, Hon. Lukman Adeleye and other APC candidates in the State

According to him, the rally will also provide an opportunity for supporters of the party to reaffirm their commitment to the progressive ideals of the APC and showcase the achievements and leadership qualities of the candidates.

He noted that President Tinubu's administration has continued to implement policies aimed at repositioning the nation, while Senator Adeola has distinguished himself through impactful constituency projects, empowerment programmes and developmental initiatives across Ogun State.

Daytayo also described Hon. Lukman Adeleye as a committed representative who has remained accessible to his constituents and has continued to champion the interests of the people of Odogbolu State Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly.

He expressed confidence that the massive turnout expected at the rally would send a strong message about the readiness of APC supporters in Odogbolu to work for the success of the party and its candidates.

Adding excitement to the event, Daytayo revealed that popular Fuji music star, Sule Alao Malaika, will entertain guests and supporters at the rally, alongside other attractions lined up by the organisers.

He therefore called on APC members, supporters and residents of Odogbolu and neighbouring communities to turn out in large numbers and be part of what he described as a historic gathering in support of the party's candidates.

A new youth-focused civic and political engagement movement, Gen-Z in Politics, has been launched with the aim of empowering young Nigerians to actively participate in governance, public service, and democratic leadership.



The initiative was founded by Sunmola Adijat Olashile, a former House of Assembly aspirant for Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency and currently a consultant to the Dapo Abiodun administration in Ogun State.

In a statement issued and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital, the young vibrant female politician, explained that the movement seeks to bridge the gap between political awareness and political action among young Nigerians by raising a new generation of politically informed, visionary, and leadership-oriented citizens capable of influencing governance and shaping the nation's future.


Olashile said Nigeria's future cannot be built without the active participation of young people, noting that the emerging generation possesses the innovation, creativity, and understanding needed to address contemporary challenges and contribute meaningfully to national development.


She explained that Gen-Z in Politics would focus on civic education, advocacy, mentorship, leadership development, grassroots mobilization, and digital engagement to equip young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills required for effective participation in governance and policy-making.

According to the statement "The future of governance should not be left solely to existing structures but must be influenced by a generation that understands today's realities and tomorrow's possibilities"


The founder noted that the movement's mission is to educate, empower, and mobilize young people to actively participate in governance and influence political decisions, while its vision is to build a generation of politically conscious, leadership-driven, and socially responsible Nigerians who will strengthen democracy and confidently occupy positions of leadership.


She added that the organisation is guided by values such as political consciousness, youth empowerment, integrity, inclusiveness, civic responsibility, strategic leadership, and digital innovation.


While describing the initiative as more than a political movement, Olashile said it is a growing community designed to provide young Nigerians with opportunities for learning, networking, leadership development, mentorship, and collective action.

Our correspondent gathered that registration has been opened for interested participants, including students, entrepreneurs, professionals, activists, creatives, and other young Nigerians passionate about leadership, civic engagement, and nation-building.

Six years after PRNigeria published an exclusive investigative report questioning the controversial trial, demotion and dismissal of former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General Hakeem Oladapo Otiki (rtd), the Supreme Court has finally cleared the senior military officer of all charges, effectively vindicating the position earlier canvassed by the media organisation.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel, the apex court upheld the December 2024 decision of the Court of Appeal which nullified Otiki’s conviction by a General Court Martial (GCM) of the Nigerian Army.

The Supreme Court consequently dismissed the Nigerian Army’s appeal and affirmed the discharge and acquittal of the retired General, bringing to a close one of the most controversial military trials in recent Nigerian history.

The judgment marked a dramatic reversal of the sanctions imposed on Otiki in 2020 when he was convicted over the disappearance of ₦100 million allegedly stolen by soldiers assigned to transport the funds from Sokoto to Kaduna in July 2019.

At the time, the military tribunal ordered his dismissal from service, reduction in rank from Major General to Brigadier General, and issued a severe reprimand — sanctions subsequently ratified by the Army Council.

However, Otiki consistently maintained his innocence, arguing that he neither stole the funds nor concealed the incident, having promptly reported the theft to military authorities and refunded the missing ₦100 million.

The Court of Appeal had agreed with his position, voiding the entire proceedings of the General Court Martial, restoring his rank and directing the payment of all his entitlements.

The Nigerian Army challenged the decision at the Supreme Court, but the apex court on Friday affirmed the appellate judgment, finally clearing Otiki of all allegations.

The report had questioned the circumstances surrounding the General’s prosecution and suggested that his ordeal may have been linked to political intrigues surrounding the 2019 Sokoto governorship election.

PRNigeria had reported that some credible military and political sources believed Otiki’s refusal to allegedly compromise the military’s neutrality during the supplementary governorship election in Sokoto contributed to his subsequent travails.

Major General Otiki was appointed GOC 8 Division, Sokoto, on March 16, 2019, shortly after the March 9 governorship election in the state was declared inconclusive due to the narrow margin between Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu.

Upon assumption of office, Otiki reportedly warned military personnel against any illegal involvement in the rerun election, insisting that no officer or soldier should participate in election duties without clearance from Army Headquarters.

During a “Show of Force” operation ahead of the supplementary election, the General also urged residents to come out freely and peacefully to exercise their civic responsibilities.
