Family / Terminate My 25-year-old Marriage To Ill-tempered Wife – Pastor Begs Court by MrRationaL(m): 1:27pm On Sep 21, 2017
A pastor, Bernard Towoju, who says he cannot tolerate his wife’s ill-nature and troubles, on Wednesday approached an Igando Customary Court, Lagos, seeking the dissolution of their marriage of 25 years.
Towoju said his wife, Abosede, was in the habit of going naked to swear for him with her private part.
“I cannot continue to make love with a woman who always swears for me with her private part,” he said.
According to him, Abosede is stubborn, wayward and troublesome.
“She once came to my office to fight me and tore my clothes in the presence of my colleagues. We fight on daily basis and hurt each other a lot.
“We always land in the police station after our fight, in fact, we are regular customers at the station,’’ he said.
The 53-year-old man also accused his wife of threatening his life.
“My wife always hits me with dangerous weapons whenever we are fighting.
“I had to run away from the house I built with my money 10 years ago to rent an apartment for safety.
“She chased me with cutlass, bottles and sticks; our neighbours can testify to that.
“I am afraid, I cannot sleep under the same roof with her with my two eyes closed,” he said.
He begged the court to dissolve the marriage as he was no longer interested in the relationship.
In her defence, Abosede, however, accused her husband of calling her a witch.
“He said everywhere he went for solution to his problems they always told him that I am behind his predicament.
“My hands are clean, I know nothing about his woes,’’ said the estranged wife.
“Bernard abandoned me and the children 10 years ago, I have been taking care of the children,” the 36-year-old fashion designer added.
The mother of four urged the court not to grant her husband’s request for the dissolution of the marriage, saying “I still love him.”
The court’s President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case until Oct. 31 for further hearing. (NAN)

Politics / Those Calling For Local Government Autonomy Are Agents Of Confusion – Aregbesola by MrRationaL(m): 1:18pm On Sep 21, 2017
Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has kicked against the agitation for local government autonomy.
According to him, those calling for local government autonomy were agents of confusion as granting autonomy to local government councils was antithetical to true federalism.
He said local councils were administrative units of the state and therefore their autonomy may be the end of the states.
Aregbesola said this while speaking at the one-day conference on the second anniversary of the Southwest in national governance held in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
He noted that, while settling for federalism, Nigeria’s founding fathers copied the Indian example, where the federating units were coordinate with the central government.
“In India, we have a state that is more than Nigeria in size and population. We also have Goa, which is not more than Lagos as a state. The large states cannot dominate smaller states. California cannot dictate to Arkansas. The Federal Government in the United States cannot interfere in what happens in other states, unless it is invited.
“Also, under the federal system, the Federal Government cannot interfere in the activities of the local government. Those calling for local government autonomy are agents of confusion. I know there are anomalies with the local government administration.
“But, it does not mean that it should be autonomous under the state. It is against the spirit of federalism. Whenever the states cease to control the council, that will be the end of the state.”

A Federal High Court in Abuja, has declared the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) “acts of terrorism”.
This followed an application filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Earlier on Wednesday, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the legal process for the proscription of the group.
Speaking with State House correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday, Mohammed explained that the procedure for proscription was that “the president must sign the proclamation after which the attorney-general will follow the procedure which he is doing”.
“For those who are fixated with legality, I have good news for them: President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the process of proscribing IPOB, and the procedure is on as I speak,” he said.

The Deputy Governor of Abia state, Ude Oko Chukwu, has claimed that citizens of the state are comfortable with Operation Python Dance II, despite the controversy generated by the military exercise.
Chukwu said this when Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, visited the 82 division headquarters of the military exercise, located at the Nigeria Army Language Institute (NALI) Ovim in Isuikwuato local government area of the state.
The Deputy Governor said the motive of the operation, which is to check criminal activities, was right.

No, it is a routine exercise that soldiers conduct,” he said, adding, “I want everybody to realise that the soldiers meant well for us as a state; they meant well for us as a people.”

Politics / Army Did Not Declare IPOB Terrorist Organisation- Buratai by MrRationaL(m): 9:58pm On Sep 18, 2017
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai on Monday evening stated that the Defence Headquarters did not declare the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB a terrorist organization in the country.

Speaking during the official launch of Operation Python Dance II in Abakaliki, the Army Chief who argued that what the Defence Headquarters did was a pronouncement on IPOB added that the statement of the military gave room for the right steps to be taken on the matter.

According to Buratai, the action of the Federal government concerning IPOB was right and that the military did not over step its bound towards the protection of lives and properties in the country.

You have to get it very clear. First of all, what the Defence Headquarters did was to make pronouncement. It wasn’t a declaration per se. But this has given room for the right step to be taken. I think the government is doing the right thing.

“It is not that we are overstepping our bounds. We are still within the limits. And I ensure you that what the military said was to set the ball rolling and to bring the awareness to the public that this is what this organization is all about. I’m happy that the government has done the right thing right now.”
.
General Tukur Buratai further assured the people of the Southeast that the Army will abide by the rule of law and rules of engagement in carrying out the Exercise Egwu Eke II which kicked off on Saturday in the region.

Also during a courtesy to Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, the Chief of Army Staff noted that the exercise was targeted at improving the security situation of the zone which according to him, was very strategic to the security of the country.

According to him the exercise will help to bring about the much needed peace and security and also be used to train the Military in basic internal security.

“They army have taken into cognizance the security of the people in deployment of it’s personnel for the operation”.

He said the army in carrying out the operation will liaise and work with other security agencies in the region.

“The army is very sensitive to the cultural norms of the people and will abide by all the rules of engagement and code of conduct that have been laid down which is quite in tandem with the Constitution,” he said.

According to him, some of the activities of the exercise will include Patrols, indoor battle exercises, Civil-Military cooperation activities like medical outreach, sanitation, donation of books to schools etc.

He therefore appealed for understanding as it is just an exercise to help improve security of lives and property within the zone.

Governor Umahi promised that the people of the state will cooperate with the army throughout the duration of the exercise.

He noted that the first edition of the operation last year was peaceful and successful and urged the military to carry out the exercise with high sense of discipline that the Nigerian Military is known for.

He urged the Military to pay more attention to the state’s border with Cross River while carrying out the exercise which he said have been decimated by boundary clashes.

Politics / Biafra: What Senate Will Do About Military Action On Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB – Saraki by MrRationaL(m): 2:27pm On Sep 17, 2017
President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, said the Senate would soon meet with security chiefs over military action against members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

He said the meeting would chart a path for resolution of contentious issues causing tension in the South-East and also address the skirmishes in Plateau and other states.

This is as the Nigerian Army declared that its ongoing operation in the region will continue.

Saraki in a statement on Sunday in Abuja said that security agencies, political and religious leaders must work for the promotion of dialogue as means for tackling agitations, to ensure peace in the country.

The statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, urged all Nigerians to maintain peace and avoid statements or actions capable of aggravating the tension in parts of the country.

Saraki said that the crises in the country were not unconnected to the economic challenges being faced by citizens.

“The tension in some parts of the country has its roots substantially in the economic situation.

“The nation should be assured that some of the legislative and executive actions taken to address the economic problems are beginning to yield fruits.
“This is why we recently witnessed the rebound of the economy and the exit of the country from recession,” he said.

He called for calm among the people, especially in the South-East and Plateau, saying that the government required the cooperation of everyone in solving all problems.

“I want to appeal to our people to avoid stoking ethnic or religious fires. We should not deepen the fault lines of our nation and place citizens in danger of violence and sustained crises.

“The government requires the support of all Nigerians and we should please give peace a chance. No real development or genuine economic activity can take place in the midst of crisis or tension.

“Investments and development thrive only where there is peace,” Saraki said.

He advised political, community and religious leaders to take actions that would douse the tension and reassure the people that the best way was for us to live together in peace and harmony.

“All leaders at this point must canvass support for government and preach peace, love and harmony.
“Once again, I plead with our people to avoid taking laws into their hands or antagonizing our neighbours,” Saraki added.

Politics / President Buhari's Childhood Friend Advises Him On 2019 Elections by MrRationaL(m): 5:03pm On Sep 10, 2017
Senator Abba Ali who is the childhood friend of President Muhammadu Buhari has advised him to contest in the 2019 presidential election saying he is the best man for the job.

In an interview with The Punch, the senator who represented Katsina/Dutsinma senatorial district under the defunct National Party of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983 said many people have alleged that the president was not medically fit.

Ali however insisted that the president was in good shape to contest for the election.

He said:“President Buhari is hale and hearty; let me first clear that impression on his health. Those urging him to resign on health ground have forgotten that God is the creator of mankind and he has the final say on when one will die. I have seen an old man in Katsina here who was in coma for four months, yet the old man thereafter lived for another eight years before he eventually died. I have also seen a situation where a man was seen today in good health and died the following day not as a result of accident but normal natural death.

“That is God for you. So, those saying President Buhari should resign on health grounds are going beyond their limits. They are not God and they are playing God by saying so. Only God knows beyond anybody.

“President Buhari should go for a second term in office. He has started a good job which is acknowledged both within the country and globally and it is better he contests again for a second term in office so that he can finish the good job he has started. Everybody knows that this man is not out to accumulate wealth but to put Nigeria in its appropriate place in the comity of nations. This man is out to see that Nigeria is great again. And he has been doing all within his powers to achieve this. He realises that no country can be great with corruption. So he is fighting it with zeal and he is also tackling insurgency and all forms of criminality.

“He knows that Nigeria needs good infrastructural development and he is pursuing this. Look at the Mambilla power project that has been abandoned. He has resuscitated it. There are other projects being embarked upon by his government to ensure that the Nigerian youths are no longer jobless. So, I strongly support the call for his second term in office. By the time his second term ends, he would have laid a very solid foundation for whoever that is coming after him to leverage on. God, in his own wisdom, made President Muhammadu Buhari to be above board compared to his fellow politicians.

“We are prepared to support him to ensure that his second term bid succeeds and I believe that President Buhari will succeed while his detractors will fail.”

Asked if President Buhari is the only politician that can handle the menace of corruption in the country, the senator said:“Based on my experience in politics and with my age, I am saying it with all seriousness that I have not seen anybody among the current crop of politicians in the country who has a good intention like President Buhari. Many of them have amassed enormous wealth meant to take care of their people. Many are still stealing blindly. President Buhari stands out among the current political class in Nigeria. I will rather encourage him to go for a second term so that there will be sanity in the political sphere.”

Car Talk / Nigerian Man Shares Photo Of FRSC Car Involved In An Accident by MrRationaL(m): 4:31pm On Sep 10, 2017
In a post shared by a Nigerian man on Instagram, it was noted that the FRSC vehicle was involved in a lone accident.

The Instagram user who was simply identified as Adegoriite questioned how the accident occurred.

From the name Federal Road Safety Corps, it is easy to know that the purpose of the corp is to prevent, protect and sensitize people against accident.

In the photo shared, there is nothing to indicate what caused the lone accident that occurred except the fact that the vehicle rammed into a pavement on the road.

For an accident like this to occur, it could be assumed that the driver of the vehicle was driving above the speed limit or something was chasing the driver.

Since we are unable to predict what happened, we can only ask the question, how did the accident happen especially to the car of an organisation that is supposed to prevent such things?

Politics / Buhari Orders Security Agencies To Fish Our Perpetrators Of Plateau Killings by MrRationaL(m): 1:18pm On Sep 09, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the recent killing of persons, especially women and children in a night attack on Ancha village in Bassa local government area of Plateau state.
In a statement sent to journalists on Saturday, September 9 by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the president described the killings as 'senseless.'
Buhari expressed disappointment at the disruption of peace in the state, urging stakeholders not to allow the incident destroy the progress made so far.
.
“It is unlawful of anyone or group to take the laws into their hands in the name of revenge or reprisals, rather than follow due process by allowing law enforcement agencies to fish out any such aggressors who will be made to face justice.
“The various communities in the state have taken many steps, with the support of security agencies and mediators to pull the state back from the brink of anarchy and senseless killings warranted by attacks and counterattacks.
“It will be a painful loss to allow these unsavoury acts to return. I urge all our communities in the state and the other parts of the country to embrace peace and bring to a stop these painful and unnecessary killings,"the president said.
President Buhari reiterated the determination of the federal government to protect the lives and property of all citizens, wherever they reside, while directing law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators of the killings and whoever their sponsors may be.
He prayed God to grant peace to the souls of the victims and comfort to the grieving families and community.
Meanwhile, two Boko Haram suspects believed to be computer analysts and another one, suspected to be a herbalist, have been arraigned at the Lokoja Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Politics / Federal Government Won't Interfere In Nnamdi Kanu's Court Case - Lai Mohammed by MrRationaL(m): 11:34am On Sep 09, 2017
The minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has promised Nigerians that the federal government has no plan to influence the court case of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Alhaji Mohammed stated this when he received broadcast media editors who paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Friday, September 8 in Abuja.
The minister stated that though the federal government has the right to go to court to lodge a complaint, but the power to decide on revoking the bail lies solely on the court.
.
His words:‘‘The matter is purely a judicial matter. Once a matter is in the court, it is for the court to say these conditions I set for you, you have respected them or not.
‘‘We would not tele-guide the court on what to do or what not to do. As a government, we have a right to go to court and lodge a complaint that you gave a condition and the accused has obeyed or disobeyed the terms of the bail, then the decision will be left to court to decide.
‘‘This is simple judicial overture which has no political overtone.’’
The IPOB leader is billed to appear in court later this month after he was granted bail on health grounds on Tuesday, April 25.
As part of his bail conditions, Kanu was ordered never to grant any press interview pending the outcome of his trial.
The court also ordered that he should not be in a gathering of more than 10 persons at a time.
The presiding judge in the case, Justice Binta Nyako had said Kanu's bail will be revoked if any of the orders are flouted.
Kanu has repeatedly flouted the bail conditions as he has granted interviews to foreign media housesand addressed large crowds of IPOB supporters.
