A faceless volunteers group has launched a campaign online asking Nigerians to join them in their quest to ensure that Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo becomes Nigeria's president in 2019.

RationalTV..com observed that the group is using a website - http://osinbajovolunteers.com/ to push their agenda.

It is however not clear who the sponsors of the group are as numbers displayed on the website are not Nigerian numbers, while an email RationalTV..com sent to the mail address on the website bounced back.
.
The group however stated clearly on its site that the vice president is not party to their activities or funding them.
“Note that Osinbajo did not endorse this volunteer group. We have never met him. We are strong believers in the fact that he is the right ruler for Nigeria and must create a peoples volunteer base for him,”the group stated on its website.
Osinbajo has not publicly revealed what his plans for the 2019 elections are.
The vice president's public ratings however soared during his time as Nigeria's acting president as the business of governance became active and fast paced.
Many Nigerians began canvassing for the vice president to be elevated as the country's leader as a result of his performance during the time he was in charge of the nation.
President Muhammadu Buhari's health challenges has affected the government's pace as the president was nicknamed'baba go-slow'by some his critics earlier in the life of his administration.
The president had on several occasions, expressed confidence in the capabilities of Osinbajo, even while he was away for medical vacation.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo recently stated that President Buhari has not disappointed him with his performance in office.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Obasanjo said President Buhari has performed fairly well in areas of fighting corruption.
He opined not everyone would be satisfied with the way President Buhari has gone about governance, but said he (Buhari) has tackled corruption.

A former United States diplomat, Russell Hanks, has been honoured with the traditional title of Wakin Amana of Dutse Emirate, Jigawa state.
Garba Shehu, one of the spokespersons of President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed this on social media as he congratulated the latest northern chief.

Shehu did not however give details of the event, but simply said:“My good friend of many years, Russell Hanks, who retired as a US diplomat was recently honored as WAKIN AMANA of Dutse Emirate, Jigawa state.”
Hanks joined the US Foreign Service in 1988. He has served in West Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and South America and played strong roles in the elections in Guyana and Nigeria in the 1990s.

He also reportedly played important roles in the peace processes in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Chad, and Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.
RationalTV..com however reports that while Nigeria honoured Hanks, former President Goodluck Jonathanwas in Malaysia where he advised young people around the world to unite with the old so as to forge a common front.
Jonathan spoke on Friday, September 8, in Sarawak, Malaysia, as a guest at the International Summit on Peace organised by the Junior Chamber International.

The national Christian elders forum has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop sending former governors who mismanaged the resources of their states to the senate.
Christian elders that on Thursday, September 7, made this known while paying a courtesy call on the national leadership of the PDP at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Punch reports that the forum was led by Solomon Asemota, its chairman said it was unfortunate that former governors, who looted their state treasuries are the ones making laws for the nation today.

Asemota said:''It is very sad that governors, who have mismanaged their states and looted the states treasury dry, now find retirement space in the National Assembly.
''Why can we not have political parties that will say ‘no’ to such wasteful managers of state resources?.
''Why do political parties keep recycling for the country discredited and outrightly incompetent persons as leaders of the country?.
.
''The incompetent and wasteful individuals, who mismanaged the commonwealth of the people, still find abode in political parties as power brokers''.
Asemota said what was more unfortunate was the information that the governors of the region announced that the quit notice had been suspended.
He said:''We wish to stress that the conduct of these governors is subversive of their oath of office wherein they swore to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the law''.
Meanwhile, RationalTV..com had reported that a high court in Yola, the Adamawa state capital sentenced former state governor Barrister Bala James Ngillarito five years in jail without option of fine over corruption-related cases.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has sent a message to Igbos living in the north to stay where ever they reside without fear.

In spite of the withdrawal of quit notice given to southerners in the north by the coalition of the northern groups, Vanguard reports that there is still tension among the populace.

RationalTV..com gathered that Yakubu Pam, the chairman, 19 northern states and Abuja of the group on Thursday, September 7, made this known while speaking at the opening ceremony of a one day leadership summit organised by the group in Abuja.

Pam said:''We come today as leadership of the northern Nigerian CAN to call our brothers and sisters from the south (Igbos), those at home, those that here (in the north), they should know that we are together, and we believe in the unity of this country.

''As spiritual fathers in the first place, we have prayed, they should be able to remove fear from their heart and relax wherever they are, there is no power that past power of prayer.

''Secondly, we call on the federal government, state governors of various states to call on their people, we need to live together in peace.

''And security agencies should be up and doing, so that, our people (southern brothers) will not fear.

''We also call on our traditional rulers, particularly, in the areas, where the Igbo minority are found in the north, that the protection of lives and property are largely respected''.

Meanwhile, RationalTV..com had reported that Arewa youths sent a message to Igbos living in the north assuring them that no evil will befall them while also criticising Nnamdi Kanu for rejecting the withdrawal of the quit notice.

In line with its constitutional mandate, barely 2 months after its formal operationalization, the 6 Division Nigerian Army Port Harcourt has stepped up operations to deter various criminal acts being perpetrated within its Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Colonel Amiu Iliyasu, the Deputy Director Army Public Relations disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, September 7.
These operations include; Anti-Illegal Oil Bunkering, Anti-Kidnapping, Anti Robbery, Anti-Cultism, Anti- Piracy as well as Stop and Search Operations against other sundry crimes being committed against law-abiding and peace loving citizens of the Niger Delta with huge successes recorded so far.

Most recently on 4 September 2017, troops of 6 Division Garrison, Port Harcourt on routine Anti-Bunkering patrol to Elechi and Abonnema Wharf discovered and destroyed several quantities of suspected illegally refined Automated Gas Oil.
In a similar operation conducted by troops of 29 Battalion Tactical Headquarters, Bille, Rivers State troops encountered armed illegal bunkerers short of Feropkakama a notorious bunkering site, who on sighting troops opened fire.

However, the gallant troops repelled the attack and pursued the scampering criminals deep in to the creeks with many of them sustaining gun shot wounds.
In another development, troops of 3 Battalion (Rear), Warri continue to dominate their AOR with the conduct of Stop and Search Operations with a view to maintaining the fragile peace that exists in the area and to identify, detect and intercept criminals, arms and ammunition within the area.
This proactive measure has significantly reduced attacks on innocent communities particularly along Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja boundary, Isaba community, Mofor, Okwuokwuoko, Warri/Sapele and other notable hot spots around Warri metropolis.

In a follow-up operation conducted on 5 September 2017 by troops of 29 Battalion Tactical Headquarters, Bille, Rivers State to the notorious illegal bunkering site at Feropkakama Camp where the troops had an encounter the previous day, more success was recorded as troops discovered 14 Pump Action catridges, 4 empty AK 47 magazines, 8 pumping machines and several other illegal bunkering tools while a massive manhunt in conjunction with other sister security agencies is under way to track down and arrest the fleeing criminals in order to bring them to justice.

RationalTV..com had reported that two Boko Haram commanders and deputies to Abubakar Shekau, a factional leader of the terrorist’s group, were killed in successful military operationsat Alafa in Borno state on Sallah day, September 1.
Army spokesman, Brig-Gen Sani Usman, in a statement, said that Shekau deputies that were killed in the onslaught included Afdu Kawuri and Abubakar Banishek.
“This is in addition to Ba’Abba Ibrahim and two other Boko Haram commanders that died after sustaining injuries during their last ambush at Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno,”he added.

New Telegraph has reported that major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday rejected the Governor Fayose candidate and adopted his deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola, as the party’s candidate for the 2018 governorship election.

The newspaper claimed that the governor had earlier favoured Kayode Oso, his former work’s commissioner as his possible successor for the race to the State House come 2018.
The paper quoted Fayose to have said that:“If I were asked to pick a candidate to succeed me, I would have picked Kayode Oso straight off. But I have called him into the room and told him to allow me seek God’s consent concerning it. I have called my deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, I have also called Bisi Omoyeni into the room and asked them to allow me seek God’s consent. Whoever God chooses, we will support among the aspirants."
Going further, the report said the deputy governor was adopted at a meeting attended by 177 councilors, 177 ward chairmen, 16 Local Government party chairmen, 16 local council chairmen, chairmen and members of Boards and Parastatals, State Executive Council, Ekiti State House of Assembly members, serving and former members of the PDP working committee, former deputy governor, among others.

The governors of South-east Nigeria has denied claim that they recently met for a meeting where they accused the federal government of killing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement by the chairman of the South-east Governors Forum, David Umahi, the governors debunked a report by one Nwankpa Osita Okere who recently alleged that the governors met in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, where they accused the federal government of brutality on the Igbo ethnic nationality.

Premium Times reports that Governor Umahi, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, said:“While it is our responsibility to protect the lives and property of our people including the IPOB, it is rather embarrassing to link the forum to whatever politics of bitterness in any part of the country.
“Firstly, the writer and his paymasters failed to meet up with the realities on ground as concerns the already initiated move between the governors’ forum and leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, reached during our last meeting in our secretariat in Enugu.
“It is, therefore, the wish of the forum to assure the general public that the communiqué raised during our last meeting with IPOB leadership still stands and anybody circulating any report contrary is the real enemy of Ndigbo and should be disregarded.”
He claimed that such rumour was being passed by enemies of Ndigbo, who are out to cause trouble between the governors and the federal government as well as strain the relationship between IPOB and the governors.

In a strange turn around, the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum has urged Igbo people in the north to stay and assured them of safety.

The youths also asked Igbos to ignore the directive of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that they should leave the region.

Calling on the federal government to arrest Nnamdi Kanu, they stated that they had withdrawn their notice to quit issued to the Igbo living in the North after consultations with elders in the region.

According to Punch, Arewa youth leader, Yerima Shettima, said that after extensive consultations, they made the decision to withdraw the October 1 ultimatum.

Shettima said:“There is no need for them (Igbo) to go anywhere. They can ignore IPOB; they are not even popular. We have a culture; we have a background and when we say something we stand by it. We are not like IPOB that talks from both sides of the mouth.
“Before we arrived at our decision, we consulted widely. Our people are not violent. We have leaders and when they speak, we obey them. It is part of our culture.”
Shettima also stated that his group would insist on a referendum for the Igbo, adding that they were working with National Assembly members to make it a part of the constitution amendment.
“Our focus is to unify the country and for the nation to remain one. It is left for the political elite and the traditional rulers to get them to embrace peace.
"For us, we have demonstrated our patriotism to the country. But we still insist on the call for a referendum for the Igbo to leave the country; we are working on it. We want a referendum to be enshrined in the constitution,”he said.

The CNYG’s decision to withdraw the quit notice followed series of meetings with numerous stakeholders.
