Crime / Police arrest Army deserter who trains IPOB members by MrRationalBlog(m): 9:06am On Sep 08, 2017
A 26-year-old alleged army deserter, Ebeje Nnamdi, suspected to be the trainer of members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been arrested by the police in Anambra state.

Nnamdi was arrested alongside three others for their alleged involvement in armed robbery in Iyi Oji area of Anambra.

Garba Umar, police commissioner in the state, presented the suspects to reporters on Thursday, at the police command headquarters in Amawbia, near Awka.

The police also arrested 22 suspected cult members who were allegedly conducting their initiation ceremony in a bush.

Umar said the police recovered 336 rounds of 7.22x39mm, AK-47 live ammunition from the alleged (IPOB) members and their trainer.

“Police equally recovered three empty AK-47 riffles with magazines, one locally made double barrel pistol with two live cartridges, (IPOB) wears, IPOB flags, muffler, criminal charms and ATM cards,” he said.

“The army deserter was formerly of the 20 Mechanised Battalion, Taraba, in 2014 before he disappeared.”

The commissioner said Nnamdi became a member of a six-man gang responsible for the attacks and killings of policemen at nipping points, robberies at fuel stations including that of Bukachi filling station, Eziowelle, both in Onitsha on August 31, 2017.

Others who were arrested alongside Nnamdi were 26-year-old Onyebuchi Peter Ali and Ugwuokpe Nnaemeka.

Umar said their case was under investigation and that they would be charged to court after investigation.

He also said two members of a four-man gang of kidnappers were arrested, while one was killed in a gun battle with members of the state anti robbery squad (SARS), while the victim was rescued.

Politics / Radio Biafra Denies Police Reports On Ammunition Being Found With IPOB Members by MrRationalBlog(m): 8:42am On Sep 08, 2017
According to Radio Biafra, a Facebook page set up by supporters of the renewed agitation for a sovereign state of Biafra, the Nigerian police and government are peddling fake news.
The page was reacting to an alleged report that the police found arms and ammunition among the members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group.
Below is the statement from the page:
"Someone should go and tell Nigerian government to try another pattern. Currently, these methods they are using is old fashioned. Any day Biafrans will pick up arms against Nigerian government we shall make it open to the world.
"Go and google our history, we don’t run away from battle. Nigerian government is trying to push us to the wall. Those individuals who are whispering and advising this current government are pushing this to the limit of no return.
"God is our witness, we shall return it the way they want it. IPOB is peaceful and Nigerian government should not force arms on us because it will not do anyone good! The world should caution Nigerian government to halt this blackmail against IPOB or the consequences will be severe.
.
"We are not afraid of war, our peaceful disposition and approach should not be seen as cowardice. We are following international democratic footprint in pursuing our dream.
"IPOB is armless and will continue to be. Nigerian government should desist from this blackmail. IPOB is only asking the government to set a date for a referendum. This forceful marriage is not working and there is nothing anyone can do to make it work. The love we have for Nigeria is dead and buried, allow us to go in peace."
.
In a statement by the chairman of the South-east Governors Forum, David Umahi, the governors debunked a report by one Nwankpa Osita Okere who recently alleged that the governors met in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, where they accused the federal government of brutality on the Igbo ethnic nationality.

Politics / Breaking: Ohaneze Expresses Support For Yorubas Over Issues Of Restructuring by MrRationalBlog(m): 8:24am On Sep 08, 2017
The Ohaneze Ndigbo has backed the call by the Yoruba elders for restructuring of the country which was emphasized again at the Yoruba Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The Punch reports that the summit which took place on Thursday, September 8 had in attendance Yoruba leaders, South-West governors, traditional leaders, lawmakers, Yoruba socio-cultural groups, professional bodies, various Yoruba youth groups and leaders of various groups from the South-East and the South-South.
Chief John Nwodo who led the south east delegation expressed support for the call for restructuring and resource control.
.
He said:“I am here with a large delegation to emphasise the Ndigbo solidarity with this occasion. What is happening today shows that democracy has begun to grow in Nigeria.
“Is it right to be ruled by a document that you are not a party to? What we are saying today is that the people of Nigeria must have a say in the way they are governed. It is not only the Yoruba that are saying it; we, the Igbo, are saying it loud and clear. Many people have tried to destroy restructuring by saying that it is a ploy by Southern Nigeria to monopolise the God-given mineral resources in the area. Those who are doing this do not love Nigeria.
“The Netherlands is the 18th richest country in the world. Its agricultural export every year comes to $100bn. The Netherlands has 34,000 square kilometres but Niger State in Nigeria has 73,000 kilometres. If Netherlands can export $100bn worth of agricultural produce, Nigeria should be able to do more in million folds.
“In a restructured Nigeria, only those who can till their land and produce food will be rich. All parts of Nigeria are endowed with agricultural resources.
“California is the largest economy in the world, yet, it is only one state in the United States. California has given birth to richest companies in the world whose founders grew from universities in California. If you give the people the power to develop themselves, they will do well.
“Education knows no boundaries, I was thought by Yoruba professors and today, I can mimic the Yoruba intellectual powers.
“I want to tell you that we support your motion for restructuring of Nigeria.”
Albert Horsfall who led the Pan Niger Delta Forum to the summit also emphasize the need for the country to be restructured.
He said:“The whole issue of restructuring depends on the control of what you or your soil produces. We in the South-South have, for several decades, provided the engine room that runs Nigeria but we are still expecting to be given the privilege to run our own affairs. That is the restructuring that we are talking about.
“The rest of us in the south speak with one voice over restructuring. We believe in one Nigeria but every country must do something and contribute something to the nation. We do not want a system called federalism but based on unitary system of government.
.
“If you go to the Niger Delta today, despite the fact that we lay the golden egg, our people are still agitating. We are not mad; we are agitating because history repeats itself.
“The issue of restructure must start with resource control. That is what we believe. We support the Yoruba motion in its entirety. The sage, Chief Awolowo is closely related in politics with my father, who was also a leader of the Action Group. We have affinity with the Yoruba and that is why we are here to speak in acknowledgment of what the Yoruba people are doing today.”
.
RationalTV..com had reported that the people and leaders of the Yoruba in the South-west, Kogi and Kwara states and the Diaspora demanded for a six-regional structure as a condition for an indivisible country.
This Day reports that the Yoruba leaders also recommended the devolution of 25 items on the Exclusive list in the 1999 Constitution, ranging from customs duties to exchange control, currency, coinage and legal tender, arms, ammunition and explosives, and citizenship, naturalisation and aliens among others.

Politics / Niger Delta Activist Tompolo Fumes, Vows JTF Will Pay For His Father's Death by MrRationalBlog(m): 9:12am On Sep 07, 2017
The founder of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Government Ekpemupolo popularly know as Tompolo, has vowed that soldier under the Joint Task Force will pay for the death of his father Thomas Ekpemupolo.

While speaking during the one year anniversary of his late father, the Niger Delta activist who is currently in hiding said the descendants of Thomas will not rest until the masterminds of his death are held accountable.

The Nation reports that Tompolo said his fathers soul can finally find peace on the soldiers are brought to book.

“As we mourn and remember our late patriarch, we will seek justice to apprehend and hold accountable the very soldiers responsible for his murder so that he can finally rest in peace and we his descendants can be fulfilled.

“I will also not be deterred by persecution and state act of terror against my person and communities in Ijaw land in the quest for the emancipation of our land and people,”Tompolo vowed.

“He sustained injuries in one of his legs and due to lack of medical facilities in the area he could not be treated and could also not be timely evacuated because of the siege and blockade by the Nigerian Army,"he said.

The activist also denied any involvement in the looting of funds belonging to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) as alleged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“I have been marked as state enemy number one by the President Muhammadu Buhari regime because of my natural and open association with my kinsman and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan,"he said.

Tompolo also denied involvement in the destruction carried out by Niger Delta Avenger militants in the region.

He further accused the Nigerian Navy of looting his waterfront properties and jetties worth over N10 billion.

“In the last taken inventory of my facility, there was over 10 billon naira worth of building and other materials in the Jetty, but information reaching me now has it that the Jetty has been stripped bare by service personnel of the Joint Task Force [JTF],"Tompolo added.

RationalTV..com earlier reported that High Chief Thomas, the Tunteriwei of Gbaramatu kingdom, died on September 7, 2016, following harassment by some troops of the Nigerian military.

Chief Thomas was reportedly assaulted by the troops who laid siege on Gbaramatu Kingdom on May 28.

Politics / Biafra Agitation Has Woken Igbo Elites From Their Slumber - Nnamdi Kanu by MrRationalBlog(m): 8:25am On Sep 07, 2017
IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has said the mode of his group's campaign has woken Igbo eites from their slumber.

Kanu made the comment on Monday, September 4 in Owerri, the Imo state capital, after he met with the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), as part of his consultations towards the realization for Biafra Republic.

According to Vanguard, ADF delegation at the meeting was led by its national president, Professor Uzodinma Nwala, while Kanu led senior officials of IPOB to the parley.

Nnamdi Kanu has been constantly meeting with key Igbo leaders of thought on the Biafra agitation

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Kanu said:“I told them that I will update them periodically on what we are doing.

“I am glad that the elite are coming on board. We are all elite, including the carpenter and the mechanic by the road side, who have understanding of the times, as long as they can make sense and articulate their viewpoints and channel them towards emancipating our people.

“Elitism is not purely about academics; it has to do with being able to articulate a sense of purpose for a people and pursuing it doggedly.”

He described the meeting as“a family meeting and not for public consumption,”adding that it was very fruitful.

According to him, the outcome of the meeting“will guide us in our efforts towards restoring Biafra.”

Alaigbo Development Foundation is a pan-Igbo organisation composed of some accomplished Igbo professionals, academics and the intelligentsia at home and in the diaspora with interest in Igbo cause.

Meanwhile, Kanu has warned members of IPOB to desist from giving out money to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Kanu also threatened to expel any member of the group who fails to heed his warning, even as he accused the NPF of being a criminal organisation, out to extort members of his group.

Politics / Biafra Secret Service's plan for Anambra will only bring unpleasant consequences by MrRationalBlog(m): 7:45am On Sep 07, 2017
@RationalTV
Ejike Njeze who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the action of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) will affect Igbos.
.
Vanguard reports that the APC chieftain spoke in reaction to a threat issued by a commander of the Biafra Secret Service, Ezekwesiri Kenneth, who said the Anambra election will only hold“over their dead bodies”
.
Chief Njeze said the tone used by IPOB indicated that it plans to use violence to stop the election and predicted that it will bring an end to IPOB.
.
He urged IPOB to reconsider its decision as the government would not watch a group try to stop a legitimate election.
.
He said:“There is no reality behind laying a claim that an individual or IPOB could halt the governorship election in Anambra state. Any attempt to stop a lawful process like an election is chasing a wild goose. It is equivalent to a young child looking at the moon and thinking that he could pluck the moon simply because he could see it.
.
“For me, it is clear that IPOB will attempt to use violence to try to stop a lawful process but the law-enforcement agencies will not sit-down and watch any individual or group set Anambra state ablaze. Rather than one man set the whole state ablaze, the state will set the man ablaze.
.
“No well-meaning and responsible Anambra person will support that call for the halting of the progress of the state through the boycott of a governorship election. Honestly, I don’t see the place of election boycott in the Biafra agitation.
.
“What Nigerians should expect is the election results because the conduct of the governorship poll is non-contestable. IPOB lacks the locus standi to halt a constitutional election of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
.

,
“IPOB has given the options to the government that it is between their dead bodies and the conduct of the elections and the most realistic between the two alternatives is the latter. So, I urge them to have a rethink on the call to boycott Anambra gvernorship election because it is doomed to woefully fail and also bring forth unpleasant consequences among those residing in Southeast.”
.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, September 5, granted the request seeking to serve court processes on Kanu and IPOBthrough substituted service.
.
The court, however, ordered that other respondents in the matter, namely: the Inspector-General of Police, the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Attorney-General of the Federation be served personally.

Politics / Arewa Youths Send Message To Nnamdi Kanu Over October 1 Quit Notice by MrRationalBlog(m): 10:29pm On Sep 06, 2017
Arewa youths have sent a message to Igbos living in the north assuring them that no evil will befall them while also criticising Nnamdi Kanu for rejecting the withdrawal of the quit notice.

The youths had caused public outcry when they issued an ultimatum to Igbos to vacate the north but they withdrew the notice a few months after.

The Sun reports that Shetima Yerima who is the president of the Arewa Consultative Forum said it didn’t matter whether Kanu accepted the withdrawal or not.

He said:“Did I do it for him or in the interest of the country? His rejection of the suspension of the quit notice is not important to me.

“What we did was to demonstrate that we have a culture. We give respect to our elders and it was to ensure that the country remains together.

“The country is above anybody. On that basis, his acceptance or not is not important but I know that he also is not speaking for the Igbo. It is a minority view of few people making all sorts of noise.

“It is not really important to me and I do not want to join issues with them. Nigeria is above everybody and I stand on the path of one united country. We have to build a nation that we can call our own

“Nobody would do anything. Anybody who does anything, we make sure that the authorities arrest the person. We are in charge.

“Nobody should be scared of anything. Our youths are reasonable; they are known to respect one another; we listen to our leaders unlike some other parts of the country. But having said that, you can be rest assured that there is no cause for alarm.

“So, let Nigerians be rest assured that nothing would befall anybody by God’s grace and we are working towards that and we would give the government the maximum support. Our brothers across board, we would make sure that no evil would befall them. That is the position of things.”

He also insisted that he has nothing against Igbo people as a lot of his friends are from the south east.

He said:“A lot of my friends are Igbo people. I have nothing against the Igbo.

“It did not end there; let me also demonstrate that to you; my first wife is from Calabar, the old south-eastern region. We have two kids. I have a good relationship with the Igbo.”

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, September 5, granted the request seeking to serve court processes on Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) through substituted service.

The court, however, ordered that other respondents in the matter, namely: the Inspector-General of Police, the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Attorney-General of the Federation be served personally.

Health / Strike: FG Authorises Federal Hospitals To Engage Doctors On Ad-hoc Basis by MrRationalBlog(m): 5:08am On Sep 06, 2017
The federal government has directed chief medical directors of Federal Hospitals to immediately engage the services of locum doctors, to augment the services of Consultants, pending the resolution of the ongoing strike by the resident doctors.
The minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, made this known in a statement issued by Mrs Boade Akinola, Director, Media and Public Relations on Tuesday in Abuja.
The directive was contained in a circular dated Sept. 5, addressed to all CMDs/MDs of Federal Tertiary Health Institutions across the country.
.
The minister said the directive was an attempt by the government to reduce the increased work load of Consultants, NYSC doctors and House Officers, thereby preventing reduction in quality of service delivery to patients.
“This new directive was to further provide additional support for the federal government hospitals, to strengthen service delivery.
“The government is committed to fulfilling the mandate of providing health for its citizens no matter the circumstances we find ourselves,”Adewole said.
The minister had earlier approved the use of Armed forces, Police and Federal Road Safety health facilities in ensuring continuous provision of health care services in the federal hospitals.
.
Adewole on Monday, September 4, made this order following the industrial action embarked upon by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

Politics / Igbos Will Lose More, No Hausa Or Yoruba Has Property In Igboland-mbaka by MrRationalBlog(m): 7:05pm On Sep 05, 2017
RationalTV..com
.
Addressing a gathering of Igbos in East London, the controversial cleric said that Igbos should be the last people seeking to leave Nigeria.
Fiery Enugu-based Catholic priest gave his views today on the current agitation for the secession of southeast Nigeria from the rest of the country as the Republic of Biafra.
He said:
“No Hausa person owns property in Igboland. No Yoruba person owns property in Igboland. But 60% of businesses in northern Nigeria are owned by easterners. 40% of businesses in western Nigeria are owned by Igbos.”
Mbaka implied that Igbos had the most to lose by the breakup of the country. He claimed to know about how much Igbos owned across Nigeria because he was regularly being invited to to say blessings at the opening of new businesses by Igbos, especially in northern Nigeria. He said:
.

“Go to Sabon Gari in Kano and see what Igbos own there”. He added that they could complain that they were not enough of them in government, but under former president Goodluck Jonathan, an Igbo was finance minister, Central Bank governor, and so on.
He went on to suggest that those Igbos that have been seduced into agitating for Biafra by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of separatist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are “the children of the poor”, who in his view, are not thinking properly about the implications of secession. Mbaka said those people were being deceived by Kanu.
Mbaka then moved on to what could happen in an independent Biafra if it ever came to fruition.
.
He said: “If you think we have trouble in Nigeria now, we will see trouble in Nigeria. No Anambra man would let an Enugu man be president, no Imo man would let an Abakaliki man be president”.
He was very convinced that fault lines between different Igbo communities would come to the fore if Biafra ever became reality. When challenged on talking about politics, Mbaka responded that “politics is part of life” and “I read political science and political philosophy”. He added that decisions made by politics affect everyone.

Religion / There Will Be Disaster If Nigeria Is Not Restructured- Bishop Tunde Adeleye by MrRationalBlog(m): 1:42pm On Sep 05, 2017
RationalTV.22web.org
.
The Bishop of Calabar Dioceses of Anglican Communion, Bishop Tunde Adeleye, has said that Nigeria was heading towards irredeemable disaster if restructuring is denied.

RationalTV.22web.org gathered that while addressing a press conference in Calabar, the clergy said, “unless there is restructuring, I fear and dare to say that we will crash. I am not prophesying any doom but at the rate we are going, restructuring is the only viable way out.”
.
He said:“A situation where people are being oppressed; where those who make the money are being suppressed and not allowed to have a say on the money they make; at this rate, when the centre is heavily loaded with money and the states and the local government are crying for funds, going to Abuja with cap in hands begging, those things will crush us unless we restructure.

“I believe in true federalism as a system of government which allows the people at the State and local government levels to take of certain decisions by themselves and for themselves. A situation in which Abuja dictates education, dictates health, dictates the police amongst other things will result in a crash.”
On agitations by IPOB leaders and some Niger Delta youths, the clergy said:“I do not believe in secession. We are better and stronger if we come closely apart. By this, I mean Nigeria should come together, loose in the centre and stronger in states.

"We should be closely apart bearing in mind our cultural differences, religious differences, ethnic differences and other critical and notable differences.”
The minister believed that restructuring could address issues of incessant agitations and stop activities of militants and herdsmen, who, he said, bestride farmers’ farmlands, destroying crops and killing the farmers at any slightest provocation.

He lamented that the older generation of Nigerian leaders have failed the nation, saying, “it is the older generation which have ruined the country; they have destroyed the destiny and future of this country through corruption. The old brigade is not the ones to save this country, it is the youths
.
“Nigerians youths should forgive the old brigade for being the problem of this nation, but the youths should get themselves prepared and positioned.
"They must make sure they do not learn or copy anything from the old because there is absolutely nothing to learn from them. Youths must avoid the mistakes of yesterday’s men,”he appealed.

Politics / What Buhari And Nnamdi Kanu Have In Common, maxi Okwu Describes by MrRationalBlog(m): 1:09pm On Sep 05, 2017
An Igbo leader and former national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Maxi Okwu, has described President Muhammadu Buhari and the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as having something in common.
Okwu, a social and political analyst, also described Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the ‘political grand-master of Nigerian politics’.
According to Okwu, President Buhari and Kanu know how to excite their supporters and make them go wild.
“Both PMB and Nnamdi Kanu have one common denominator. They excite their supporters with a frenzy of messianic dimensions,”he said in a post on social media.
.
“I wager that no northerner can challenger PMB among Hausa Fulani holi poli. The same goes for Nnamdi among Ndigbo youths.
“I do not see an equivalent among the Yoruba. Asiwaju Capo Ahmed Bola Tinubu does not work the crowds. He is a master of mafiosi politics. In fact I cede to him the title of the political grandmaster in Naija for now,”he said.
Okwu lamented that some zones in the country are currently suffering because they leaders with such unifying and influential factors.
For example, he said:“Since Tarka the Tiv seem to have lost their soul. It’s all the more pathetic when his acolytes like aging Paul Unongo now run errands for the forces JS fought against in the first republic.
“There is today no Rewane equivalent among the Ishekiri,”he added.
Okwu said former Governor James Onanife Ibori of Delta would have been a rallying point among the Urhobo people of the country, but for his prison term which he served in the United Kingdom.
“There is no new Kenule Saro Wiwa among the Ogoni. The Ijaws of the Niger Delta have a band of 'Generals' who act like the warlords of Afghanistan or Libya.
.
“I am open to suggestion on similar crowd pullers among the myriads of other ethnic nationalists not covered in my short piece,"he wrote.

Education / Solomon Yusuf, Kidnapped UNIMAID Lecturer Writes Letter To Wife, Begs Buhari by MrRationalBlog(m): 10:46pm On Sep 04, 2017
Dr. Solomon N. Yusuf who was one of the four lecturers abducted by Boko Haram terrorist during an oil exploration in Born has sent a letter to his wife.
According to Sahara Reporters, the lecturer in the letter dated Monday, September 4 called on the federal government to speed up its process of negotiating for their release.
.
He called on the President Muhammadu Buhari government to meet the demands of the abductors under the control of Abu Mus'ab Albarnawi, warning that delay in doing so poses a huge risk to their lives.
"I want to emphasize that delay in getting our freedom poses risk to our dear lives. We never expected we would spend over 42 days (as at 4 September) in captivity because the project has presidential orders to explore hydrocarbon in the Chad Basin.”
"The government should please continue negotiating with the present contact given to them by the University of Maiduguri as a means of contacting soldiers of Khalifa under the leadership of Abu Mus'ab Albarnawi. We plead with the government to treat our freedom with all sense of urgency and sympathy so that that we can be reunited with our families. The use of force is a serious threat to our lives.”
He also told his wife that he and his colleagues, Messrs Yusuf Ibrahim and Haruna Dashe are alive, well and hoping to return home while also urging that the new baby delivered in his absence be named by his father, Mr. Nehemiah Yusuf.
.
Dr Yusuf noted that over 70 people had died in the exploration saga and that they have been in captivity for so long and would have expected the government to work towards their freedom.
He thanked the national and University of Maiduguri chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for calling for their release.

Politics / Buhari Is Worse Than IPOB, Arewa Youths – Senator Owie Fumes by MrRationalBlog(m): 11:15am On Sep 04, 2017
A former Chief Whip of the Senate, Roland Owie, has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government is worst that those issuing quit notices and counter-notices across the country.

Owie made the remark while citing the recent reorganization at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, which allegedly excluded people of the South East.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftain said people of the South-East have observed a “systemic plan to strangulate” Igbos by the Buhari’s administration, this he claimed is evident in recent appoints.

“It is regrettable that we blame IPOB, Arewa youths or Niger Delta youths over threats capable of disintegrating the country but the series of appointments made by this administration even up till now have shown that the administration is worse than those issuing ultimatum to the Igbo.

“We have observed a systematic plan to strangulate the South, particularly the South East in appointments, and it seems that this administration is not bothered at all which is sad.

“I want to appeal to President Buhari to know that this country belongs to all the ethnic groups, he should not create problem for the North where he comes from because no matter how he sees it, he would not have become President without the support of other ethnic groups,” he told Vanguard.

Politics / Biafra Agitation Seriously Affecting South-east’s Economy - Orji Kalu by MrRationalBlog(m): 5:35am On Aug 02, 2017
Dr Orji Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, says the agitation for a sovereign state of Biafra is seriously affecting the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the South-East.
The former governor, who spoke on Tuesday in Abuja, at a joint press conference with members of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), after a closed meeting with the group, said he opened up consultations with the group following recent developments in the country, threats and counter threats.
According to Mr. Kalu, Nnamdi Kanu was not the only one talking about Biafra, adding that he had access to all of them and would continue talking to them.
“It is an issue of great concern to the region; the young people on the street do not know the damage the Biafra agitation does to the GDP of the region.
“The GDP of the area has gone down grossly; I am an entrepreneur and I know it.
“Cameroon, Chad, Niger and others used to buy goods from Aba, now how many of them still go there?
“We resolved this issue when I was the governor of Abia; I resolved it with Ralph Uwazulike and he listened; we will speak with Nnamdi Kanu and he will listen."
Kalu said that the diversity and demography of Nigeria was its strength.

Politics / Quit Notice On Igbo, Not Reversed- Arewa Group Insists by MrRationalBlog(m): 5:27am On Aug 02, 2017
Contrary to the impression given by the Coalition of Northern Youth Groups on Sunday that the quit notice issued on the Igbos to vacate all northern states by October 1st is set to be reversed, the group has denied that no such decision has been taken.
In denying such plans, the group said emphatically that the ultimatum remain sacrosanct.
The coalition, made up of 16 different groups which are signatories to the quit notice, at a meeting with former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, in his office in Abuja, the chairman of the group, Shettima Yerima, restated their position on the ultimatum.
Yerima said even though the groups in the coalition have held meetings on the ultimatum, they have not said they have lifted the quit notice.
Addressing a joint press conference with Kalu, he said that the coalition was holding consultations with stakeholders across the country with a view to reviewing its position but admitted that they were meeting to douse tension in the country.
His words : “I do not also remember specifically saying we are going to finally withdraw the quit notice. No, certainly not. But we said, within the week, we are going to make a statement.”
He, however, assured that there was no cause for alarm as he expressed the coalition’s belief in a united Nigeria.
The coalition chairman said they were concerned about the unity of Nigeria and would not allow it to be threatened.
“It is only those who are blind that will say the unity of this country is not being threatened. But you have prominent Nigerians like him (Kalu) who have shown a lot of worries over this situation.
“To us, we strongly believe that Nigeria is for us and Nigeria belongs to everybody and we are all equal in this project.
“We will not in any way accept anybody who wants to undermine the unity of this country” he said.
He noted that since the quit notice was given, things have changed as they have engaged with prominent Nigerians on how to resolve the issue.
Yerima warned that they would not allow anyone to hold Nigeria to ransom but also assured that those who want to live in Nigeria are free to do so while the safety of Biafrans could not be guaranteed.
According to him, “We need to do a lot of work, we are in consultations now. We are likely going on consultations in northern region, we will discuss issues before we finally review our position.
“But you can be rest assured that those who believe in Nigeria should remain where they are and be assured of their safety. But to those who don’t believe in Nigeria, we cannot guarantee their safety.
“So, it’s better if you want to do your Biafra, you stay and do your Biafra over there. But if you believe in Nigeria, we intend to work side by side with you to build the nation of our dreams.”
In his remark, the former Abia governor said he would soon meet with leader of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and other leaders of the Biafran agitation.
He observed that Nigeria had been cut in pieces by agitations and would require to be sewed together like a beautiful cloth.
Kalu also noted that the Biafran agitation was affecting the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of the south east states as they have lost the patronage of neighboring countries who traded with them.
While noting that the diversity of Nigeria was its strength, the former governor stressed that all parts of the country were equally important as they contributed in the same way to its wellbeing.
He however advocated restructuring and admonished the north not to view it as being against its interest.
Kalu explained that restructuring was just to reorganize the way government operated for the maximum benefit of the people.
“Restructuring does not mean breaking the country. There are certain things we have outgrown. We need to address the issue of how our economy should be run so that the masses, the poor people will benefit from efforts of government” he said.
The former governor however assured southerners in the North that they would be safe “and nothing will happen.”
Kalu stressed the need for at least 75 percent of budget allocations to be given to capital expenditures.
He commended the coalition for agreeing to meet with him, saying that the outcome of their discussion would be made public soon

Politics / Presidential Plane Departs From London As Anxiety Mounts - Vanguard by MrRationalBlog(m): 1:19am On Aug 02, 2017
Anxiety mounts over departure of Presidential jet from London

—-We ‘re not aware of that—-Presidency

By Johnbosco Agbakwuru

ABUJA – THERE was speculation Tuesday night that the Presidential jet in London departed the country perhaps to Nigeria which caused tension within the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

But the media team of President Muhammadu Buhari denied knowledge of such thing, saying that it should be taken as rumour as there was no information available to them suggesting that the President had left London where he is on medical vacation.

Recall that President Buhari had left the country on 7th May to see his doctors in London, the United Kingdom and had handed the button of leadership to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to act on his behalf

However, there have been insinuations in some quarters that the President’s health had recorded a remarkable improvement that would warrant him to return to the country soon.

The speculation about the President’s return was rife Tuesday when some sources in London had claimed that Mr. President’s aircraft had taken off from there to Abuja even as it was reported that some staff at the Presidential Villa had been on standby since Monday.

But when Vanguard sought the confirmation of the alleged departure of the Presidential aircraft from London from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, he said he was not aware of such development.

Also in denial of any knowledge of the alleged departure of the Presidential aircraft from London was the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adeshina who said he was not informed of anything like that.

According to him, “BBC also called me and said the president’s aircraft had taken off, I should confirm it. I said the tradition is that if the president is coming, we will be asked to issue a statement but there has been no such instruction.”

As at the time of filing this report late Tuesday night, there was no confirmation to the effect that the presidential aircraft had left London and there was no movement within the Presidential Villa to support the rumour.
