PoliticsBuhari is about to fail me by mrrights(op):
BUHARI IS ABOUT TO FAIL NIGERIANS
Abdulrazaq O Hamzat

I want to express my disappointment with the manner at which President Muhammad Buhari is about to break one of his first covenants with Nigerians.
On may 29, 2015, the President was sworn-in and today, that makes it 92 days in office. www.mrrights.com.ng

The covenant, which President Buhari made was to declare his assets public within 100days in office. I re-echoed that promise several times to counter many critics of the president, when he was being accused of not publicly declaring his assets in his first few days in office.

It is important to note that, out of all promises made by the President, publicly declaring assets is the most easy to fulfill. The president merely need to give the go ahead to declare them to fulfill that promise.

However, it is so unfortunate that, despite how we defended the president when he first applied to the Code of Conduct, urging members of the public to be patient since 100days is still far away, I am feeling in patient that rather than publicly declare the asset within that 100days, President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman is today saying he never made such promise. This is most insincere, ungrateful and embarrassing.

If Buhari cannot fulfill a simple promise of publicly declaring assets, those of us who supported the President need to be at the fore-front in calling the President back to order. This is not the Buhari we supported.

It is important to remind us that, few days to election, President Muhammadu Buhari wrote a letter to all Nigerians seeking votes. He titled that letter, ''MY COVENANT WITH NIGERIANS''.

In his words, ‘’'This Covenant is to outline my agenda for Nigeria and provide a bird’s eye view of how we intend to bring about the change that our country needs and deserves.

''This Covenant is derived from the manifesto of my party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). It however, represents my pledge to you all when I become your President''. Buhari said.

With the above statements, there is no way the president or his assistants can turn around today to say Buhari was not aware of this covenant. It is worrisome that, this is what the Presidential aide, Shehu Garba was insinuating.

In that letter, President Buhari wrote: '' I intend to lead with integrity and honor and commit myself totally to everything that is of concern to our people: security, employment, health, education, good governance and others.’’

If Buhari must lead with integrity and honor, he must quickly correct this negative impression by coming out publicly to take responsibility for his own promises and declare his assets before the expiration of 100days. We would never forgive him should he remain silent in this drama. As a matter of fact, he must publicly declare his assets with the 100days which less than 8days from now.

On corruption and governance in the said covenant, President Buhari had said, ‘’I will Publicly declare my assets and liabilities and encourage my political appointees to also publicly declare their assets and liabilities.

After assuming office, the president submitted his assets declaration form with the Code of Conduct. But because that was not enough as publicly declaring assets, the public ask the president to declare his assets publicly as promised, not just with the code of conduct.

In reaction to public call, Presidential aide, Shehu Garba on June 1st, 2015 in vanguard newspaper explained why the president did not declare his assets publicly.

According to him,’’ President Buhari will make his assets known to Nigerians within the first 100 days of his stay in power in line with his assertions before the election’’.

‘’President Buhari still has 97 days within which to make his assets public as he promised during the campaigns. I think that the president should be given the benefit of the doubt. It is only three days since he came to office’’. Shehu said.

Even barrister Femi Falana added his voice to the issue. On his part, rights crusader, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, opined that “these men just took oath of office two days ago and they declared their assets officially as required by law which stipulates 90 days. Meanwhile, they’ve promised to declare their assets publicly within 100 days. I hope it is better we wait for the 100 days.”
You can read those reports on http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/why-buhari-didnt-make-assets-public-aides/.

What has changed between that period and now? What has gone over Shehu Garba? And what has prevented President Buhari from publicly declaring is as promised?

I must confess sincerely, when the same Shehu Garba, presidential spokesman who urged Nigerians to be patient, since Buhari still has 97 days to fulfill his promise came out in the weekend to say Buhari did not make any promise to declare his assets within 100days in office,I feel so used and rubbished.

This was the same Garba who said‘’ Buhari will make his assets known to Nigerians within the first 100 days of his stay in power in line with his assertions before the election.’’

If it was true that Buhari never promised to publicly declare his assets within 100days as now being claimed, how come Garba made the above assertions those times?

We must hold this government very well,if it would deliver the good governance as promised.

TRUTH ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH – Abdulrazaq O Hamzat
http://mrrights.com.ng/index.php/2015/08/30/truth-alone-is-not-enough-abdulrazaq-o-hamzat/

Some years ago, a speech i delivered in a programme was titled ‘’The Truth About Nigeria’’. That paper was published on several online media platforms.

In that speech, I stated that, truth is the solution to all problems, without it, no measure works. I went ahead to state that, truth must never be substituted if we truly want to progress as a nation. This is so because, when we avoid telling the truth, that is when the nation crumbles upon itself. I pointed out further that, some people might tell half truth in some cases, but even with that, progress would be delayed, because when we avoid telling truth as it should be told, we are preventing progress as we should progress.
After observing and learning from events as they unfold in the country, it occurred to be that, truth alone is not enough. It must be accompanied with mercy and reconciliation. We must all develop the habit of having mercy with each other and being able and willing to reconcile our differences. We must not continue to live as friendly enemies, suspecting each other of certain ulterior motives every time. Rather, we must improve our relationship to that of partners, always struggling to make our relationship work better.
Lederach (1997) said- “Truth and Mercy have met together. Justice and Peace have kissed”. The above analogy by Laderach was used as themes to guide one in better understanding the components that aid long lasting reconciliation. He concluded in his finding during his workshop in the Peace Commissions in Nicaragua thus: “Without the person of truth, conflict will never be resolved. Yet, truth alone leaves us naked, vulnerable and unworthy.”

He went further that, on Mercy, images emerged of compassion, forgiveness, acceptance and a new start. Without the person of mercy, healthy relationships would not be possible. Without compassion and forgiveness, healing and restoration, would not be possible. Yet, mercy alone is superficial because it covers up too quickly. Then came the role of reconciliation.

Reconciliation is a procedure that moves us away from hatred and prejudice of the past towards building structures and procedures for establishing durable peace with adversaries once groups have entered a post-settlement phase (Ackerman, 1994). It is a process that restores broken relationships of those who have been estranged from one another by conflict to create a community again. Reconciliation begins with the restitution between the injured and the injurer, and reciprocity is essential.
Going back to my speech titled ‘’The truth about Nigeria, let me reproduce some parts of that speech so you can understand my thought on this subject better.
I took it upon myself to talk about truth, because I see it as the beginning and the ending of our challenges as a nation. Some people have opined that, inefficient leadership, corruption, unemployment and others are major problems facing Nigeria, but what I consider as the major problem holding us down is the lack of truth and sincerity.
If the leaders are truthful, they would lead truthfully, and if the followers are truthful, they would support nothing but the truth. But again, where is the truth in our leaders and even we,the followers?
Without any doubt, successive events in the country have shown that,Nigerian leaders have with time, shaped citizens reasoning to their way of thinking for easy exploitation, making it almost impossible to reason properly without a trace of sentiment and sectionalism.
99 percent of our leaders are fakes with no single trace of public consideration while in office, they only hide under the banner of North and South to deceive the populace. Since ethnicity in our part of the world has been positioned by these leaders to be seen as the only guarantor of personal security, they ride under this tent to continue their deceit to seek re-elections or appointments. No wonder their was public outcry after President Buhari made some appointments few days ago.Its all about appointments for these set of leaders.
The leaders do not tell the followers the truth, anything they say is a mere word to mislead the people. Neither are we, the followers willing to listen to truth anymore.
This ushered in a situation, where the poor are no longer truthful to the rich, neither are the rich to the poor. Men are not to women, neither are women to men. Parents not to children and neither are children to parents. We have fake pastors and Imams who mislead people in the absence of truth, business organizations, banking sector, even in our universities, a supposed center for shaping character and learning. Truth has become a scarce commodity.
Governors, Senators and even the president, all sunk in deceit and insincerity. Always suspecting each other and trying to outsmart themselves in their business of falsehood. How then do we expect peace and progress in the midst of such suspicion and insincerity?
However, we must refer to a popular quote which states that: Hurt me with the truth, never comfort me with a lie’’. If you hurt me with the truth, the bitterness of truth will eventually fade away, because according to—Arthur Schopenhauer: “Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized. In the first, it is ridiculed, in the second, it is opposed and in the third, it is regarded as self-evident.” Therefore, the comfort we derive from lies may be desirable and sweet, but the seed of lies and deceit is sorrowful, appalling and discordant.
In essence, what we are witnessing today in Nigeria is the natural fruit of discord, which usually occur between two or more insincere partners, relating with each other deceitfully. If those who sowed the seed of deceit didn’t live to reap its fruits, surely, their offspring would unless it is corrected.’’ We must now correct our deceitful ways.
Having made the above submission few years ago, I feel the need to add that, while truth is indeed a way forward, we must combine truth with mercy and reconciliation to have a desirable effect.
From my interaction with some Nigerian youths, especially on the social media, it occurred to me that, some seems to perceive certain wrong doings against them or their tribe/region or religion. Whether this feelings are true or not, we must make deliberate effort to reconcile with their feelings and assure them of truth and sincerity. We must also show them mercy and ensure a reconciliation. If not, all their actions and thoughts would continue be shaped by their perceived imaginary conflict with enemy and this would continue to affect the nation negatively.
In conclusion, let me refer to Feldman (1991) who said, there are a number of essential components to reconciliation as a political concept, including equality, trust, acceptance, partnership, friendship, and the development of mutual interests .Yet for these components to be manifest among former enemies or perceived enemies, a significant transformation is necessary. Frost (1991, p.200) suggests that, there are two primary requirements for this transformation to take place:… the ability of people to make agreements to live reciprocally in new ways, which contrast to the ways of the past; and the freedom to enter into these agreements with integrity, setting aside, not the memory, but the continuing hostility and need for retribution associated with the memory of the painful past. We must pursue this path of reconciliation as an antidote to move Nigeria forward.

RELATIONSHIP THINGS.

She's Chioma, he's Chidi. Both Igbos and lovers. Although their love has been shaky lately due to his inability to make a firm stand on the way forward, he still loves her and he believes she does.
He works in Lagos, she lives in Portharcourt.

Last month, she called him out that she'd be coming to Lagos for a business trip. She needed a place to stay for 4-5 days. He lives in a military barracks so wouldn't be able to house her. So he criss crossed some part of Lagos with Taxis looking for a hotel accommodation. He finally got one, paid the deposit and gave her the details. She flew into Lagos, he kept calling to make sure all was well. When she settled in, he promised to come and visit her after work the next day.
Next day, he returned from work very late, weary. But cuz of the promise he'd made, he left the house hungry just to go and stay with her. They hung out till almost midnight and she wanted to go clubbing with her friends. Chidi saw her off with her friends, he would have joined if not for an early morning appointment. So he went home to sleep while she went clubbing with friends. She'd be leaving for Portharcourt the next day.
Chidi woke up the next day and decided not to call early. She'd be sleeping from club hangover. "I will call later at work before she leaves" he said to himself.
At work, an emergency meeting came up and he left his phone charging. ... Came back later in the evening expecting to see missed calls or messages from Chioma but nothing came. Looking around, he noticed from her Facebook updates that she's already returned to Portharcourt without informing him

He knew she'd be returning that
day anyway but for formality sake, he expected a bye or thank you message.

He held his peace for the night and called her up the next day. ....
"You left without saying a word, why? That's unfair"
And she went AS USUAL. .... "You're the one that should call me and check if I am fine or left"

He shook his head. "Chioma will never change. She's always right and loves dragging issues. Stuffs that could be settled with "Oh sorry, I forgot" would always be argued and treated as if it was a court case. Maybe it's something to do with ego, pride or just bad character. Chidi has always dreaded that part of her character. One of the major reasons he's still hesitating to take a plunge. He'd constantly complained about that but always met a brick wall.

Ladies.....What would you have done if you were Chioma in this situation?

Guys, how would you have handled this if you're Chidi?

THE WAR AGAINST CORRUPTION HAS BEGUN,THOSE WHO WANT RUN SHOULD RUN FAST.
www.mrrights.com.ng

Before I proceed, let me ask some questions.

Why is there Boko Haram in North East? Corruption
Why is there militancy in Niger Delta? Corruption
Why is kidnapping now an occupation by some people? Corruption
Why is there no drugs in our hospitals? Corruption
Why are millions still unemployed? Corruption?

Corruption is evil, it has killed Nigeria. Should we allow it to bury us? No. We must all declare our support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption. www.mrrights.com.ng

To demonstrate our resolve against corruption, today, we the Nigerian people who employed President Muhammadu Buhari as our president, decided to say enough is enough to those trying to intimidate and blackmail the president into abandoning his war against corruption.

To send this message loud and clear, we converged at Unity Fountain in Abuja and marched in our large number straight to the presidential Villa, declaring our un-shaking support for the Presidents war against corruption.

We made the president realize that, we are his employers and as such, we decides what or what he should not do. For us, we are 1000% in support of probing former administration.

We made him to also realize that, those who gave him the mandate he his currently enjoying are not the members of peace committee, they are not traditional rulers, neither is it the religious leaders. It is we, the Nigerian people who gave him the mandate to lead us and kill corruption and impunity.

And therefore, any attempt or attempted attempt to water down the probe of corrupt elements in the past administration would not be accepted by the Nigerian people, we would not tolerate any attempt to give corrupt element in the past administration amnesty as being canvassed by the Peace Committee. www.mrrights.com.ng

We pointed out to him, the numerous damages corruption has done to our dear nation and we vow to hold him responsible and accountable should he fail to fight corruption as promised in his campaign.

We also instructed him to with immediate effect, disband the peace committee trying to blackmail him into abandoning his much talked about probe of the past administration.

As a result of what we have done today,It has been properly documented that, any Nigerians found to have stolen money from this nation shall be brought to book irrespective of their party, religion or tribe.

No matter who they are, even if it is our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters or even anyone among us, anyone who stole the nations resources must be prosecuted and imprisoned if found guilty.
YOU MUST BE READY TO GO TO PRISON IF YOU HAVE STOLEN FROM NIGERIA. www.mrrights.com.ng

The Spokesman of the President, Mr Femi Adesina assured that, President Muhammau Buhari is determined to kill Corruption before corruption kills Nigeria.
He maintained that, Buhari promised 3 basic thing during campaign.

1. To secure the nation.
2. To fight corruption
3. And to provide jobs and make Nigeria better for living
Without adequate security, there is no way the others can be achieved. This warrant the presidents determination to end the Boko haram insurgency before the end of this year. He reassured that president Buhari shall secure this nation not only from boko haram, but from all others security threats threatening the nations survival.

He also assured that the war against corruption cannot be stopped. It has already begun. No going back.

Those who want to run should run fast, Buhari will not go back on the war against corruption.

what do you mean? This is not a news site..its an opinion page still under construction....Don't get it wrong..it is not reporting news
PoliticsOni Of Ife: Abobaku Must Be Buried Alive by mrrights(op): 9:26pm On Aug 14, 2015
ONI OF IFE: ABOBAKU MUST BE BURIED ALIVE
The King can’t be buried alone, he his a deity himself, they call him alase, the commander, ikeji osa, second only to the gods.
According to the tradition, a king never dies, he only changes realm. Moving from the physical world to the land of the spirits. What this means is that, the king is undertaking a journey and he needs a companion to make it lively.
Should he not have a companion on this long journey, he will be lonely in his grave, but the king can’t be lonely, he certainly needs a companion, that is the Abobaku. Oh Dear Abobaku, the companion of the King. www.mrrights.com.ng
Abobaku is a special person, his duty is to accompany the king to the spiritual realm where the ancestors abode. This is indeed a rare privilege because, not everyone gets the opportunity of accompanying the most powerful king. Yes, the king was powerful, but he could not prevent his own death. What a powerful king.
Now, the king is dead, Its time for the journey, but the Abobaku is on the run, he must not escape, if you know where he his, catch him, if you can’t, report his where about to the Ife chiefs, he must be sacrificed, his destiny is tied to the late Ife king, the Abobaku must be buried alive. So sad……..Why must I be buried with the late king, the Abobaku wails. He needs help, he needs, the whole nation can’t watch them scarifies the innocent man. Everyone is born free and equal in rights and dignity. We must protect the Abobaku. www.mrrights.com.ng
Sorry, I just woke up from a dream
The news flying around the social media indicate that, Abobaku to the Oni of Ife, a man who was suppose to be buried along with the king has been reportedly missing. He was reported to have absconded after hearing the death of Oni, a man he was tied to be bured along with since he was designated with the title of Abobaku.
To those that are not familiar with the custom, Abobaku is a title, given to someone willing to be buried along with the King when ever the king dies. Should the Abobaku die before the king, another abobaku shall be appointed. Ultimately, the major function of the abobaku in the traditional setting is to be buried along with the king. Nothing more.
Here, we must ask, why should a living human be buried along with a dead king? What is the purpose of killing another human because a king dies? What sort of tradition is that? What a culture of cruelty.
This is no doubt a wicked culture, it is inhuman and outdated.
Let me state that, all eyes must be on Ife and the abobaku, the nation must not allow this inhuman violation of citizens right to continue. We must end all senseless traditional practices.
But wait a moment, who is the abobaku? Can anyone help us find his details?
What could make a man accept the title of Abobaku in this modern era?
Before he was given the Abobaku title, he knew what it is, he knew what it was. Why did he accept it? Was he forced to do so? Was he tempted because he was poor and needed to benefit from the monetary benefits that is associated with it? Why did he accepts the Abobaku title? www.mrrights.com.ng
But why Abobaku in this modern era? I thought Ife had embraced civilization, what benefits does burying another human alive brings to the society? This practice must be discontinued with immediate effect.
I call on all Nigerians to stand up in defense of human rights. Any custom or tradition that involves taking human lives must be banned. We must never watch while humans are made a subject scarifies to some imaginary gods.
