9JAMac10:When Sanchez came to take the PK I knew it was over |
Omo, our last WC was 2018, our last WC KO match was 2014…our WC history is becoming a thing of yesteryear |
Goke7:At all oooo, this WC is still a success. 2 in the Ro16 and 1 in the QF. It really could have been 3 in the QFs if not for bad game management. The question is how to learn from here |
Ppogbae:Naija get serious work to do. Our football has been in the wilderness on the world stage for far too long |
Odunayaw:I’m not. Osi balled in the playoff SF against Gabon but went MIA in the final against DRC. Osi did well in the QF against Algeria but wasn’t able to do much in the SF against Morocco. It is what it is. |
Morocco is very close to eclipsing our all time Fifa ranking of 5th. The Naija SE need to get very serious about our football again. U-17, U-20, Olympics and the NT. We have to get back to WINNING. Not just getting far in tournaments. |
Odunayaw:But what happened in the 25 AFCON SF? What about the Playoff final itself? 22 WCQ playoff final against Ghana? |
Our current players should just look to win AFCON 27 and 28/29. WC 30 we need to look towards a new set of players. Most of our core will be late 20s early 30s. Not sure how they are managing their careers but Naija players tend not to hold up |
Napoleon55:It’s not about bagging goals, but when he gets those goals. Osimhen has really yet to perform in a crucial match for Nigeria. AFCON Final, SF, WC playoff etc |
Omo, let’s not kid ourselves. Haaland is very clear of Osimhen |
I actually like this expanded WC a bit. I think it shows just how much an achievement it is to even make the QFs. Now you have to win at least 2 KO matches to make the QFs I never liked those 16 nation tournaments. You come out of your group and you’re already in QFs. The main thing was qualification in those 16 nation tourneys. Naija we have work to do sha. We’ve never actually won a KO match at the WC. |
Morocco is currently 1A when it comes to CAF, leave am. 2022 WC - SF 2023 AFCON - Ro16 2025 AFCON - Finalist 2026 WC - QF (could be more) That is consistency, moreover, they have the talent pipeline and well functioning FA. The news I heard about the Senegalese FA bringing unneeded guests as part of the WC delegation shows me there is still a lot of work for some of our African FAs |
Morocco and Senegal are the top African FAs at the moment. Both in terms of structure and talent pool. Naija don regress |
Seeing what Tunisia played this World cup dey vex me. No way Naija would have played such impotent football. We really fell our hands. |
I’m even more sad that Naija couldn’t qualify after seeing weitin Tunisia and SA play |
realpoacher:Never his fault for that goal |
Paul Onuachu just no be am for me. It really pains me because this should have been a tune up match for the WC for us. We have to do better |
I can't really blame Okoye for that goal...if anything, I'd have like to see Ndidi press out and put pressure on the ball. |
I would have liked us to really see out that win. We still have a habit of conceding some late goals. Our midfield still needs work. Ideally you have ball playing midfielders that can possess and take the sting out of the game. Chelle dey show work sha. If I remember correctly, he’s still undefeated in regulation time (correct me if I’m wrong). |
Congrats to Osi on another title. It’s time to move on to a bigger profile league and test himself at the highest level. I will say this again until I am blue in the face but my guy really gats dey watch the timing of his runs. 6 offsides in a single game is simply not good enough. Also needs to be more clinical in front of goal. He missed a couple of good chances today. At a bigger club they will be less forgiving of some of these mistakes/issues. Congrats to him. I know he has the capacity to take it to the next level. Time to do so. |
AndSunGorilla:Not that they aren't decent, but they are not established. If and when their hollywood owners pull their support from the club, what happens then. |
Glad we got Okonkwo to switch. We need more competition at GK. If he can find a decent club at Prem or Championship level, we can be set in that department for a while. Tournament keeper is different than a keeper for the league. |
SymphonyRad:Sor, Otele and Fernandez were just added. Nnadi was at the last AFCON. It’s a gradual process but for AFCON27 and 28 (?) we need to have a squad with a mix of folks ready to win now (Lookman, Iwobi, Osimhen, Bassey) and those that have at least 2-3 tournaments in them (Fernandez, Sor, Nnadi). But I hear you. Even the ones we recently called up are in their mid 20s. Where are the U-18 - U-23s that will be the next generation of the SE… |
jumobi1:End of story. The ref did not call the game abandoned in that moment. The players all came back on the pitch and played the game until 120 mins. The match was won on the field. End of story. This is an appalling decision by CAF. |
femi4:Should have stripped them of the title since. Not now |
CAF should have stripped the title from Senegal the day of or when they had their initial assessment. To come back 2 months later to change course is just very very poor from CAF. Morocco will not feel like winners and Senegal has already celebrated. No one really wins. |
Lookman needs to step it up or he’ll lose his place in the team. I know he’s not playing in his preferred position but we need to see more hustle from him. |
minfelix:I disagree. If the NFF were competent eg paying bonuses on time, giving to the players what is due etc Most of these guys would want to rep Naija. Especially seeing as the guys we approached weren’t even the biggest prospects of the EU nation. Abraham when Kane was there. Eze had not yet broken out when we approached him. Point is, when you have a stable and functioning environment, players will want to play. |
Chuks4041:Please, let’s stop with this line of reasoning. Offside awareness has been an issue for Osimhen since his Napoli days. Even for the SE we dey see am. You will hardly ever see Osimhen have a game without an offside. It can’t be that every time Osimhen is off it’s because his teammates didn’t release the ball on time. |
Osi HAS to get better with timing his runs. 2 offsides already in the first half. Come on my guy! You are better than this |
DrYa:Lookman has to improve his defensive contributions, especially if he’s playing on the wing. Lookman got beat by Yamal for the first goal. Gio Simeone is the blueprint for how Cholo wants his wingers to play although Gio had a poor game. |
This should 100% be Osimhen’s last season in Turkey. He should be pushing for the Prem or La Liga for his next move. |
