If i find any school that waves GRE for biomedical science I will mention it here.
Emeritusseun:

Thanks mtope.

I actually took GRE last year, and thr test was so horrible that I don't want to write it again. My score too was low, 290. So no school would accept that, hence I am looking for waiver
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by mtope: 4:12pm On Apr 28, 2019
I am also looking to do PhD in biomedical science or molecular biology. According to the information I got you need GRE for biomedical science although they don't require very very high scores. That doesn't mean that you will not be able to find one that does not require GRE it means writing GRE will improve your chances in a university and city that you really do want.
Emeritusseun:
Good day everyone,

Hello, how did access the magoosh online prep test?
solihp:

Hello, mathematics is my strong point so I didn't practice the Quantitative aspect rigorously, I focused more on the verbal aspect. In all, I watched all magoosh videos, used magoosh and Manhattan online practice tests severally, wrote the two free power prep practice tests, used kaplan for AW, read the Manhattan books. You can also check my posts, I gave a full account of my GRE experience on the GRE thread. Goodluck to you.

You can register on GRE prep club a lot of materials are there.
search for magoosh videos on this thread and watch.
Finally, on Google play store there is GRE practice test app. You will find the app useful contents include videos, materials and practice question.
Happy preparation.

Hello everyone,
İ found a document here some months ago showing the list of highly ranked, average ranked and low ranked schools. I could not find it again, can anyone repost it or can I settle for any list I find on the internet?I am trying to shortlist schools this weekend.
Thank you.

Thank you so much

Honestly, I didn't put much effort into TOEFL, since the GRE verbal was way harder than TOEFL, I put my effort there instead, but three weeks to my exam, I used Princeton review, cracking the TOEFL. Writing isn't a problem for me, because I have a blog where I write constantly, I can slightly mimic the British accent, and my reading was helped with KAPLAN's online GRE prep (I bought the Amazon Kindle book, so they gave me access, their comprehension strategy is top notch)
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by mtope: 9:16am On Apr 09, 2019
Congratulations!!! how long did you prepare for TOEFL? what materials did you use? Please could you mention a specific one.
user4321:

TOEFL scores came in today had 116/120 cheesy
Reading -28
Listening -30
Speaking -28
Writing - 30

Edit: I wrote these two exams while working full time ( man GATS hustle), Being Nigerian is hard embarassed.
A wonderful thank you to BY Mafit, for their wonderful discount .

Good morning esteemed colleagues,

I received an official GRA offer which includes full tuition waiver and fees from my potential advisor yesterday for fall 2019 at University of Kansas (KU). She notified me by mail on Thursday that she had secured 2 years GRA offer for me regardless of the outcome the fellowship offer I was nominated and applied for 8 weeks ago. The offer is in addition to School of Engineering scholarship I was awarded 5 weeks back.

I greatly appreciate the effort of everyone on this thread. Full funding mail will continue to flow in for all.

Please is there anyone currently preparing for the GRE? Or anyone who can give me useful tips. I have more than one month before my exam date, I understand all the verbal and Quantitative concepts but based on my practice test scores it seems I am not improving. I review my error too. I do better in Quantitative and not in verbal and sometimes vice versa. If you have taken this test before, kindly advise. Thank you. The highest I got in Quant is 155 and verbal 151. All suggestions are welcome.

Thank you for your response. If you have time please kindly write the names of the software. Thank you.
solihp:

Thank you. Like I said, I used different softwares, I started using the Manhattan mobile app few days to my exam. The subscription is around $10 per month. The advantage is that you can just do practice questions on the go, you have a lot of questions to answer and you can track your general performance. Then you can determine your weak point too in each sub-topic.
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by mtope: 5:58am On Mar 18, 2019
Congrats again. I learnt from the thread that you used the Manhattan app prep. How much is the monthly subscription? How would you recommend that I use it?

Hey Guys!

I applied to 6 unis in total for PhDs. All apps sent in and completed before Christmas '18.

CUNY GC - Chemistry (Accepted; CUNY Science scholar $30k (stipend + GA) no tuition )
UMinnesota - Medicinal Chemistry (Rejected)
UIowa - Medicinal and Natural Product Chemistry (awaiting)
Texas Tech Health Sciences Center - Pharmaceutical Science (awaiting)
Virginia Commonwealth Uni - Pharmaceutical Science/Med Chem (awaiting)
Washington State Uni - Chemistry (Rejected)

Acceptance mail came on Friday but somehow I missed it. Stumbled on it yesterday, and Voila! a pleasant surprise, especially after seeing the demoralizing result updates of the elections and realisation of the trajectory of the future of Nigeria, on the way to electing a senile, insensitive, barely literate cattle herder with a dubious WAEC qualification that has no regard for the law or court orders. I want a better Nigeria, and that's not being selfish, and this election was an opportunity for the people to have made a statement but what do we have?

Anyway, I'm almost certain I'll be in the US this fall, haven't really decided yet, as I hope to get at least another offer, but doing Chemistry in the heart of the big apple is a fascinating prospect that I fancy, pretty much why I applied.

I didn't contact any faculty member by the way, I however corresponded with the program officer/coordinator especially since my GRE quants was below the required 50th percentile and he advised I should still apply. My GRE Chemistry was also abysmal percentile-wise, although I got a little over 50% of the questions correct.

I would say praise god or whatever if I believed in any of that. But it can't be only god and prayers that produce desirable results, however, I would still say I was quite fortunate this time. Being my third application cycle, first two were focused mainly at European universities. Serendipity, providence or whatever the nomenclature caused me to stumble upon this thread and blessed be the day that I read experiences of people here with funded offers, thus rekindling my aspiration for a PhD scholarship and directing my energy where the money is, the US.

Good fortunes to the fall '17 and '18 set who left their experiences here that are still of tremendous benefit to all and sundry, High Star for una!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts and inquiries and also those who aspire for an education by taking the GRE. You never know who you may inspire to dream again and go for opportunities for a better life.

Keep contributing!

Blessed be the ones that have contributed and still do here. Y'all should be President of Nigeria.

TL;DR Got a funded admission offer at CUNY GC, the first after 2 rejections.

Send me a prompt so I could get it across to you. I attempted attaching it here but it failed because the file is larger than 250KB limit of attachment.

Congratulations again. How do I get access to the volume 2 for maths and Quantitative. I have just vol 1 for the two.
NoelJunior:

Amen. Thank you sir. I had Q160, V150 and AWA 4.0. I studied volumes 1 and 2 repeatedly (at least twice each), together with the ETS Maths Review.

Good evening Scholars,

The last couple of months have been traumatic for me, following the shock loss of my foster-father, hence my inability to respond and make contributions on this wonderful thread. Thank you CptCharlesVane, Instinct20, fame12k for your prompt and encouraging responses to my earlier post.
I got an offer from K-State with funding as a GTA (full tuition + stipend), it is the first decision out of two.

MY GRE AND TOEFL

I prepared for the GRE for 3 weeks and used only the ETS official guides. After two weeks I took the first powerprep and had Q157, V152. A couple of days before the actual test I took the second powerprep and had Q162, V153. I do not intend to make other materials lose relevance but for prospective test takers, please endeavor to also use the official prep materials (if possible begin with them) and take simulated tests prior to the exam.
In a like manner, I practiced for the TOEFL using the ETS guide. I practiced listening using VOA, TedTalks, documentaries and CNN. For the speaking, I would not recommend going in with “templates” as the questions may not fit well with them. I suggest you speak freely and flow naturally but on-point.
For those applying to study STEM courses, please endeavor to learn R and MATLAB/GNU Octave software. A friend who got into the Geophysics program of a top Canadian School is really finding it challenging without proficiency in the software. There are free tutorials in form of books and videos online but if they are difficult to access, please feel free to contact me.

SOP

Please make effort to spend good time in writing your SOP. I used, on the average, 4 days per paragraph in drafting my SOP. Whatever exposure you’ve had that will be beneficial to your application, if documented or reported on the internet (such as magazines or national dailies), please include the url in your SOP. For example, undergraduate awards/scholarships, publications, presentations etc.
I’m sorry if my write up isn’t detailed enough, still trying to pull myself together, seeing that the one who single-handedly invested in my life and education is no more to see his efforts yielding fruits and prayers for me being answered.
Lastly, I'd like to urge you NEVER TO GIVE UP. If you’ve not succeeded, it doesn’t mean you will not. Failure is never final and success is never ending. Trust God and He will make all thing beautiful in His time. You will get there!

I love you all!!!

İ need to make some clarifications. İ am considering to apply to southern western Illinois and Arkansas state university. Any red flag? İ read that İ need to send my transcripts, can i send before i actually apply? Also according to what i read there is no separate scholarship application to these schools, once İ get admission İ wait for funding decision based on my profile. Am i right? Please someone should respond.

Hello, I got into Villanova University . Got the email to check my application portal around 2am Nigeria time today. 4am Nigeria time yesterday, I got an email from the graduate director of my department that he has recommended me for admission.

It was such a fast turn over because I wrote my GRE on February 6th, I immediately sent my unofficial scores to him via email, when my scores became available online on February 14th, I uploaded it to my application, it was on Monday when my official scores got to them that all the requirement was met. I am of the opinion that he read my application before I submitted my official scores.

Also I have been in contact with him before my GRE exam and he waived the evaluation requirement and TOEFL for me when I sent my transcript and letter of English Proficiency from the Registrar of my school to him via email.

The deadline is March 1, so funding decision would come after then.

My profile: My search was guided by the time I took my GRE cause most school's deadline has closed. Here:
GRE: 161Q, 153V, 3.0AW( pretty disappointed by the AW but nothing spoil)
Undergrad: 3.47/4.00
No publication
3 letters of recommendation from my lecturers

Still awaiting decision from:

Bowling Green State University
University of iowa
Georgia State University
George Washington University
Michigan Technological University
American University

I applied to a mix of Masters in Statistics and Biostatistics

Fall 2019, yes we can

Log onto the WES official website and use their free GPA calculator to convert your GP. It is easy to do. If after this you then need an official evaluation, you can then pay for an official and certified one.

On Friday night, i became restless when one of my friends got his third acceptance with full funding in Chemistry while none of my applications have made a decision. I was like, "is it that they are not seeing my application?" I just turned off my data and slept off. So i woke up yesterday morning and turned on my data only to receive two emails from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute that i have been admitted for their PhD in Chemical Engineering with full mouth watery funding.
Am super excited about the offer! But i am still waiting for Ga Tech and Minnesota so i will just wait.
Fall2019, we're going somewhere.

Hello,

I believe Fall19 is already gone. But if you are considering fall 2020, check out Tennessee Technological University; it's a fairly safe school (look for their environmental sciences program). There's a PhD program in geosciences that just started last fall. Go through their website and you can email the contact person there with any questions. Ps: I am in a PhD program at Tech in the same dept but a different concentration. If you need any clarification you think I can help with, let me know.
