Nairaland GeneralWhy Investors No Longer Employs Nigerians In Sensitive Positions by muhammad3708(op): 10:45am On Jul 19, 2020
THIS IS MY SECOND TIME OF WRITING ON THIS TOPIC THIS WEEK.

MUST-READ:

You see many times we criticize big companies for hiring foreigners instead of our people. But eh, if you haven't gotten to that stage, don't even try to talk against them.

The corruption we are talking about is gradually becoming a culture in Africa, Nigeria specifically.

My first Business failed because of people's unfaithfulness.

Honesty is becoming scarce like a diamond.

I run a manufacturing business and a trading business.
The biggest challenge in my manufacturing business is not power, or infrastructure, the biggest challenge is getting honest staff. Everyone we hire appears to be on a mission to steal as much as possible. Inflated invoices, recording less than the actual number of units produced. The worst part of it all is that all the fraud we've uncovered is not done by a single person, it's usually many staff who collude with each other, from production to sales, to finance, even top management. There was a year I overhauled management 3 times in a year. But I've found a solution sha, I now use Indian management. So competent, so honest and so straightforward. I thought they were expensive at first with all the visa fees, accommodation, house staff, but now that losses due to staff theft have been reduced to a minimum, and efficiency increased, the Indian management has turned out to be cheaper than the previous Nigerian management. Now, all sensitive positions involving money go to Indians. Nigerians are only allowed in non-sensitive positions. I used to criticize companies like Dangote Group that hire so many Indians when there are many unemployed Nigerians, but now, I understand their decision.

My biggest challenge in the trading business is the same, getting honest staff. The form of trading occurs in the open market and involves staff having access to huge sums of money running into a few million. I know how much I pay to security companies to provide escorts for the staff, not to prevent robbery, but to ensure that the staff go straight to the bank to deposit the money after the day's sales and not disappear with my money. This money spent on security companies is even enough to be declared as profit. We have to spend on CCTV, biometric scanners and other things that wouldn't be needed if staff weren't looking for the slightest opportunity to steal.

It got so bad at a point that my main criteria for employing staff were no longer competency but honesty. At least, competency and skills can be learnt, but once you're dishonest, you're dishonest.

We always complain of the economy and how there are no jobs. I know people abroad who would have loved to set up job-creating businesses in Nigeria but they can't because they can't get any trustworthy person to run it.

I know people in Nigeria with so much money, they want to start factories and other job-creating businesses but they can't because they are occupied elsewhere and can't get any trustworthy person to run the business. So instead of investing in the real sector and creating jobs, they'll just buy treasury bills, while the thieves are shouting no jobs.

Many big businesses would have been born in Nigeria if we could engage in partnerships, but we can't because you can't trust anyone. This is one advantage the Indians and Lebanese have over us in Nigeria. They can pull resources together and do mega-business, unlike Nigerians that because only one person must do everything since we can't partner, end up with small, tiny businesses.

Start poultry and they will be stealing your eggs. Some will even go
ahead to be killing the chickens so that they'll be allowed to take them home.

Start an entertainment/viewing/game center and they'll be pocketing
your money. On the days you're around at the business, the money
realized will be x10 of the money realized when you're not around.
Because they're eating your money.

Lease out a vehicle to a driver to use and watch as he'll finish your vehicle

Christianity EtcYahya Toure Preached Islam To Me; Didier Drogba by muhammad3708(op): 2:32pm On May 03, 2016
YAYAH TOURE DREW MY ATTENTION TO ISLAM USING ONLY TWO BIBLICAL SOURCES:- DIDIER DROGBA 1. THAT PROPHET In the new testament: According to the holy bible, the Jews were waiting for the fulfilment of THREE distinct prophecies: One, the coming of CHRIST. Two, the coming of ELIAS, and Three, the coming of THAT PROPHET. "AND THEY ASKED HIM, AND SAID UNTO HIM, WHY BAPTIZEST THOU THEN, IF THOU BE a) NOT THE CHRIST, b) NOR ELIAS, c) NEITHER THAT PROPHET?" ( John 1:25 ) Jesus Christ confirmed that John the Baptist is Elias foretold to have come before Him. ".......ELIAS TRULY SHALL FIRST COME, AND RESTORE ALL THINGS. BUT I SAY UNTO YOU, THAT ELIAS IS COME ALREADY, AND THEY KNEW HIM NOT,...THEN THE DISCIPLES UNDERSTOOD THAT HE SPAKE UNTO THEM OF JOHN THE BAPTIST." (Matthew 17:11-13 ) Jesus is the CHRIST, John the Baptist is Elias, according to the bible. The crucial question here is: who is THAT PROPHET after the advent of Jesus and John the Baptist? In the Acts of the Apostles, Peter reiterates about the coming of that prophet: "For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people." (acts 3:22-23) 2. THAT PROPHET In the old testament: The vision of prophet Isiah of the two riders (kings/prophets) in the bible gives a clear picture of the prophet: "And he saw a chariot with two horsemen, a rider upon an ass, and a rider upon a camel: he shall listen diligently with great attentiveness." [Douay-Rheims Bible, Isiah 21:7] who was the rider upon an ass? Every sunday school student will know him. That was Jesus (A.S). In the book of Matt. 21:1-11; as well as Mark 11:1-11 ; as well as Luke 19:29-44 ; and John 12:12-19, Jesus went in to Jerusalem riding upon an ass. Who, then, is the promised rider on the camel? This powerful prophet has been overlooked by bible readers. This is the prophet from Arabia, Mohammad (A.S) who rode on camel when he enterd Medinah. If this is not applied to him, then the prophecy is yet to be fulfiiled.

PoliticsWike Recovers N1b From Staff Verification by muhammad3708(op): 3:39pm On Apr 29, 2016
The Rivers government has recovered about N1 billion in its ongoing staff verification, Gov. Nyesom Wike has said. Speaking at the first Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Wike said the recovery was achieved through the thoroughness of the verification. Represented by his deputy, Dr Ipalibo Harry, the governor described the recovery as a good omen for the state, especially in the face of dwindling revenues. He said that the government had also reduced its overhead expenditure to about 40 per cent as a way of adapting to the prevailing economic reality. Wike further said that efforts were being made to enable the government to generate enough funds to address infrastructural challenges. “We are working to generate internal funds so that we can effectively tackle infrastructural challenges in the areas of roads, hospitals and schools. “Such move is in keeping with our promises of ensuring adequate social services and good governance for the people of the state,’’ he said. Earlier, the President of the chamber, Dr Emi Membere- Otaji, described the country’s economy as ‘over stressed’ due to over dependence on oil. Membere-Otaji said that there was need for governments at all levels to carry out massive investor-enlightenment to open up alternative areas of the economy. “The over-dependence on oil and gas has taken the nation backward and left the citizenry impoverished. “The time to act is now; the citizenry and the investing public must have the enabling environment to venture into other investible areas,” he said.

CrimeArms Deal: Culprits Should Face Terrorism Charge by muhammad3708(op): 1:23pm On Dec 10, 2015
SIR: Nigerians yet again received the shock of their lives from the revelations emanating from the purchase of arms meant to prosecute the ongoing war against insurgency in the North-east. The insensitivity, high level corruption and lack of respect for the sanctity of human life by some highly placed individuals was once again exposed, when the office of the National Security Adviser was allegedly turned into a ‘father Christmas grotto’ where funds meant for counter-terrorism and national security were dolled out to private individuals, politicians and corporate bodies to campaign for the re-election bid of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
It is disheartening, unfortunate and worrisome that even after the former president made a proclamation that his ambition wasn’t worth the life of any Nigerian, he allegedly authorized the diversion of security funds to prosecute his campaign. That the funds that would have been used to procure arms and other equipments to put an end to the activities of Boko Haram, halt the killing of innocent women and children and prevent the untimely deaths of our gallant soldiers was so diverted goes on to expose his hypocrisy, moral bankruptcy, inhumanity and desperation for power.
Its been alleged that an individual got a whooping N4.6billion to consult a spiritualist on behalf of the PDP presidential campaign organization; another allegedly got about N2.1billion for publicity on behalf of his media organization, amidst other several amounts that were dolled out to PDP members from the office of the National Security Adviser. The questions begging for answers are; even if such funds were meant to legitimately prosecute a task or a contract for the presidential campaign organization, must the office of NSA be turned and used by the PDP for funds disbursement? Even if the said funds weren’t the same meant for arms procurement, when did the NSA transform into a cashier for politicians and their campaign organization? What manner and how much of spiritual help does a presidential campaign organization really needs with such a huge amount while many of the PDP controlled states were facing challenges of payment of their worker’s salaries and the nation was under intense economic crisis?
Now that the truth is gradually coming out and individuals who fed fat on the funds meant to fight insurgency are gradually being exposed and are under investigation, there is need for all hands to be on deck to ensure that the right thing is done within the ambit of the rule of law and constitution of the land. Gone were the days when impunity reigned supreme in our polity and certain class of people were high up above the law and hence carry out all sorts of criminal and despicable atrocities against Nigeria and Nigerians. All indicted should be properly prosecuted in the law court and made to face the full wrath of the law. The culprits must answer for every single life lost and blood shed by Boko Haram in the north-east and elsewhere in this country.
It should be noted that diverting or sharing money meant to fight terrorism is tantamount to terrorism itself. Hence, the need for all involved and indicted to be tried and prosecuted as terrorists. This heinous crime and attrocity against the people of the north-east and Nigerians in general must not be allowed to go unpunished.

Foreign AffairsWe Are Not Barring Muslims From Our Country ; By Hilary Clinton by muhammad3708(op): 7:02pm On Dec 09, 2015
DONALD TRUMP WORDS AGAINST THE MUSLIMS ARE WRONG! ...BY HILARY CLINTON
Donald Trump has made a name for himself in this election by trafficking in prejudice and paranoia. Now he says he wants to stop all Muslims from entering the United States. It’s a shameful idea. It’s also dangerous. At a time when America should be doing everything we can to fight radical jihadists, Mr. Trump is supplying them with new propaganda. He’s playing right into their hands. Now some Republican candidates are saying that Donald Trump’s latest comments have gone too far. But the truth is, many GOP candidates have also said extreme things about Muslims. Their language may be more veiled than Mr. Trump’s, but their ideas aren’t so different. Ben Carson says that a Muslim shouldn’t be president . Marco Rubio compares Muslims to members of the Nazi Party and refuses to rule out monitoring and closing of mosques. Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz have suggested that we implement a religious test for Syrian refugees —one that only Christians would pass. Chris Christie says not even 3-year-old Syrian orphans should be let in. And they insist on using the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism”— in fact, they criticize anyone who says anything else—even though it drives the exact narrative the jihadists want to advance: that we’re at war with an entire religion. When you take a step back and see what the Republican field as a whole says about Muslims—not just one or two candidates for President, but nearly all of them—it’s hard to take seriously their attempts to distance themselves from Mr. Trump. He’s just articulating the logical conclusion of what the rest of them have been saying. As Mr. Trump said in an interview this morning, “They condemn practically everything I say, and then they always come to my side.” That should concern all of us. This kind of rhetoric sets us back in the fight against radical jihadists—a fight we absolutely have to win, against a brutal, nihilistic enemy who twists Islam to justify mass murder. These jihadists cannot be contained; they have to be defeated. And the vast majority of Muslims here and abroad are on our side in this fight. Many are helping prevent radicalization, including here at home. So why would anyone suggest that they’re the enemy? How does that help us? Radical jihadists are telling people that the United States hates Muslims—and there’s Donald Trump on TV screaming about how he’s going to keep all Muslims out. He’s strengthening the terrorists’ argument. He’s also taking aim at our values. Our country was founded by people fleeing religious persecution. The notion that here, people are free to practice their faith, whatever it is, is one of America’s most cherished principles. Maybe Mr. Trump should re-read President Washington’s 1790 letter to the Jewish community of Newport, Rhode Island, reassuring them that, in the brand-new nation of the United States, their religious liberty would always be protected. He wrote, “The Government of the United States gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance.” In other words, you can be you, and still be with us. That’s something I’ll bet a lot of Muslim Americans need to hear right now. Imagine hearing political leaders threaten to register and track you, implying that your religion is violent, that you’re violent, that you’re the enemy. Nearly 3 million Americans are Muslims. They’re our family, our friends, our neighbors, and co-workers. They serve in the military, save lives as doctors and nurses, and serve our communities as police officers, firefighters, teachers, and civic leaders. They’re patriots—proud Americans, just like the rest of us. They deserve better than this. So today, I want to send a different message. To Muslim Americans: What you’re hearing from Trump and other Republicans is absolutely, unequivocally wrong. It’s inconsistent with our values as a nation—a nation which you are helping to build. This is your country, too. I’m proud to be your fellow American. And many, many other Americans feel the same way. Now is the time for all of us—especially Republican leaders—to stand up to hateful, dangerous words and deeds. Just a few days ago, two young women wearing headscarves were trying to have breakfast at a café near the University of Texas at Austin when another diner started shouting racist things at them. The girls left in tears—in part because of the ugly words, but also because no one else in that crowded café came to their defense. As they left, one of the girls asked the room, “Who cares about us?” Somebody called out, “Nobody.” “We left,” they said, “because it was true.” But it’s not true. And we have to make sure Muslim Americans know that. It’s how we stay true to our values as Americans. And it’s how we show the world who we really are—a strong, proud, united country that still knows, after all these years, that all men and women are created equal.
CrimeI Did Not Receive Any Money From Dasuki:bafarawa by muhammad3708(op): 10:34pm On Dec 03, 2015
If the statement credited to the camp of the former governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa is anything to go by then it seems the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki will have to do better to prove that some of those he alleged to have collected a share of the $2.1billion arms deal actually took part. A statement issued in Abuja by Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa’s camp maintained that he did not receive any money from the embattled former security chief. Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa together with some top politicians were named among beneficiaries of about N100 million each from the embattled former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
The statement which was issued by one of his aides, a former Special Adviser on Youths and Student Matters to Alhaji Bafarawa during his term as governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Akibu Dalhatu lamented what he referred to as a calculated media campaign aimed at rubbishing the image of the former governor adding that it seems ‘the media is being used to play out a script that has been written long before now’. He said: “We have seen deliberate falsehoods published in the newspapers and social media platforms, designed deliberately to tarnish the image and person of Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa. Some of the writers and media outfits have access to Governor Bafarawa and his media advisers. It would appear that the media is being used to play out a script that has been written long before now”. Alhaji Dalhatu in the statement said that the former governor was not arrested at home or anywhere else as reported in the media. He said his boss went willingly to honour an invitation made to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “The truth is that Governor Bafarawa went to the EFCC to honour an invitation made to him by the agency while he was abroad. He had informed them through a letter by his lawyers that he was abroad and would honour their invitation on return. Governor Bafarawa went to the office of EFCC with his lawyer and an aide” he said. Meanwhile, there are reports that former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki has been abandoned by his friends and political associates.

PoliticsObasanjo Finally Replies Goodluck Jonathan by muhammad3708(op): 6:42am On Nov 26, 2015
Former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has
finally replied immediate ex-president Goodluck
Jonathan’s letter which was written two months ago.
Olusegun Obasanjo
Jonathan had written his estranged godfather, seeking
blessing for his next public engagement: The Goodluck
Jonathan Foundation. In the letter , Jonathan addressed
the former president as “Dear Baba” as he informed him
that after his handing-over of power to President
Muhammadu Buhari, he is proceeding on a “long deserved
break.”

Obasanjo has however replied him, advising him
(Jonathan) to use the new Foundation he is set to
establish to engage in soul-searching and in reviewing his
past actions. In the letter, dated October 12, 2015,
Obasanjo also advised Jonathan to consider the
Foundation as a platform through which he can heal his
conscience and demonstrate penitence over his past
actions.
Obasanjo’s letter dated October 12, 2015, Premium Times
reports read:
Dear President Goodluck Jonathan,
“I write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of
September 22, 2015. I take this opportunity to congratulate
you on your successful handover to the current President of
Nigeria, H.E. President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I am happy to note that you had a good rest and time with
your family during the break. I hope you also had time to
reflect and see what lessons you have learned and what
you can bequeath to others.
“All of us who have had experience in our service to the
nation and to humanity must not put it under the bushel.
“I have to commend you and your Foundation, Goodluck
Jonathan Foundation, for the faith you continue to have in
Nigeria.
“Maybe seeking how to be better and more serviceable to
the nation and humanity is also a form of penitence and
soul-searching to give conscience a relief and to show
remorse.
“I wish you well as you continue to forge ahead with your
activities in the coming months and years. If there is any
area you feel I can be of help, you should not hesitate to call
on me.
Yours Sincerely,
Olusegun Obasanjo

Crime$20bn: Allison Madueke Says She Is Not An Angel by muhammad3708(op): 7:19am On Nov 24, 2015
Nigeria’s former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison- Madueke has told Nigerians that she is not the devil as they believe she is, although she is not an angel. Nigerian Bulletin reports that the embattled former minister, made this statement in the concluding part of her interview with Dele Momodu, where she maintained that she is innocent of the allegations leveled against her. According to her: “Believe it or not, and God is my witness, I didn’t have to steal. I’m not an Angel but I’m not a devil. I don’t have billions anywhere. How is it possible for one woman to steal billions of dollars in a country like Nigeria?
Diezani Alison-Madueke undergoing cancer treatment, as photographed for Dele Momodu’s The Boss project “Did I blow up the vaults of the Central Bank or transfer the money to heaven? Where can you keep such money in this age of money laundering fiasco? “I did my job professionally without even thinking of anyone as opposition. Otherwise we would not have approved the Oando-Conoco Phillips deal. Tinubu came to see me three times and we approved on merit.” Mrs Alison-Madueke also said that while it is true that a minister is influential, the real power is in the NNPC, which she referred to as the cash cow.
She added that while a minister sits in the ministry treating files, holding meetings at home and abroad, looking glamorous and taking all the flak, the soul and heart of the nation is NNPC. The embattled former minister had in a recent interview, informed that she did not loot the country’s treasury as many had said she did. But Nigerians have told her to recover quickly from her cancer and return to face the charges leveled against her, especially that of the missing $20 billion oil mone y.

If in case it was all too confusing for you, here's a summary: President Assad (who is bad) is a nasty guy who got so nasty his people rebelled and the Rebels (who are good) started winning (hurrah!). But then some of the rebels turned a bit nasty and are now called Islamic State (who are definitely bad!) while some continued to support democracy (who are still good.) So the Americans (who are good ) started bombing Islamic State (who are bad ) and giving arms to the Syrian Rebels (who are good ) so they could fight Assad (who is still bad) which was good. There is a breakaway state in the north run by the Kurds who want to fight IS (which is good) but the Turkish authorities think they are bad, so the U.S. says they are bad while secretly thinking they're good and giving them guns to fight IS (which is good) but that is another matter. Getting back to Syria. So President Putin (who is bad because he invaded Crimea and the Ukraine and killed lots of folks, including that nice Russian man in London with polonium poisoned sushi, has decided to back Assad (who is still bad) by attacking IS (who are also bad ) which is sort of a good thing (!?). But Putin (still bad) thinks the Syrian Rebels (who are good) are also bad, and so he bombs them too, much to the annoyance of the Americans (who are good) who are busy backing and arming the rebels (who are also good). Now Iran (who used to be bad, but now they have agreed not to build any nuclear weapons with which to bomb Israel are now good) are going to provide ground troops to support Assad (still bad) as are the Russians (bad) who now have ground troops and aircraft in Syria. So a Coalition of Assad (still bad) Putin (extra bad) and the Iranians (good, but in a bad sort of way) are going to attack IS (who are bad which is good, but also the Syrian Rebels (who are good) which is bad. Now the British (obviously good, except that silly anti-Semite who leads the Labor Party, Mr. Corbyn in the corduroy jacket, who is bad) and the Americans (also good) cannot attack Assad (still bad) for fear of upsetting Putin (bad) and Iran (good/bad) and now they have to accept that Assad might not be that bad after all compared to IS (super bad -- see Paris, November 2015). So Assad (bad) is now probably good, being better than IS and, because Putin and Iran are also fighting IS, that may now make them good. America (still good) will find it hard to arm a group of rebels being attacked by the Russians for fear of upsetting Mr. Putin (now good) and that nice mad Ayatollah in Iran (also good?) and so they may be forced to say that the Rebels are now bad, or at the very least abandon them to their fate. This will lead most of them to flee to Turkey and on to Europe or join IS (still the only consistently bad). To Sunni Muslims an attack by Shia Muslims (Assad and Iran) backed by Russians will be seen as something of a Holy War. Therefore, the ranks of IS will now be seen by the Sunnis as the only Jihadis fighting in the Holy War and hence many Muslims will now see IS as good (duh). Sunni Muslims will also see the lack of action by Britain and America in support of their Sunni rebel brothers as something of a betrayal (might have a point?) and hence we will be seen as bad. So now we have America (now bad) and Britain (also bad) providing limited support to Sunni Rebels (bad ) many of whom are looking to IS (good/bad ) for support against Assad (now good) who, along with Iran (also good) and Putin (now, straining credulity, good ) are attempting to retake the country Assad used to run before all this started. Got it?

Robbers enter a house, asks for all the money and valuables. After collecting what they could, they gave the man of the house a gun with instructions to shoot his wife or else he shot himself. . The man gets the gun, points it at his wife and hesitates...He is thinking of what he has gone through in life with his wife and how she has suffered and sacrificed for him and the kinda love he has for her... . He hands back the gun and says, "I am sorry I can't do this..."The boss of the robbers silently grabed the gun from him and passes it on to the wife with the same instruction. . The wife gets the gun and without any single hesitation points to her husband's head and pulls the trigger...But the gun had no bullets in it... The robbers got their gun and walked out of the house laughing. . QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION 1. If you were the man in that house how would you react towards your wife? 2. If you were the wife, what explanation would you give to your husband! 3. If you were invited to bring peace between this couple, what advice would you give huh
