25-year-old Sani Isa, also known as Sani Dogo of Zarena village in Birnin Kudu LGA, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by a Jigawa State High Court for raping a 9-year-old girl.

Justice Ubali Ahmad Taura who passed the judgement said that the accused accepted to have committed the crime with the girl at Zarena village last year.

Justice Ubali-Taura said that the witnesses, five in number, that testified in court established that Sani Dogo committed the act, which is an offence that is contrary to section 282 (1) of the penal code and he was sentenced in accordance with section 283 of the same penal code.

In reaction, a family member the girl that was raped, speaking on the basis of anonymity, expressed joy at the judgement. He said that if rapists were condemned for their wicked acts, there would be a few cases of rape of minors.

He urged parents/guardians of minors who have been raped in Jigawa State to approach the law court with their complaints to get justice and also lessen the rape cases in Jigawa State.
