Over the past one month, we have announced over Twenty fully & partially funded scholarships for international students who wish to study in the United States. However, any international student wanting to study in the USA will need to obtain a student visa before entering the United States of America. The following are USA Students Visa requirements for those seeking scholarships in 2017/18. Basically, there are five successive steps involved in getting a study visa to enter any state of the USA, whether or not your program is self-funded or on scholarships. You will need to follow this process flow, which starts from getting admission into a public higher institution – university, college or other institutions. Get Admission into a USA School: Before you can apply for your F-1 student visa for the USA, you must apply to and be accepted by a school approved by the SEVP. Pay your SEVIS Fee and Receive your I-20: Once you’re accepted, you will be required to pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee in order to be enrolled in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Then, your school will provide you with a Form I-20. This form will be presented to the consular officer when you attend your F-1 visa interview. If your spouse and/or children plan to reside in the USA with you while you study, they will be required to have individual Form I-20s, but they will not need to be enrolled in the SEVIS. Complete the Visa Application: Applying for the F-1 student visa may vary depending on the U.S. embassy or consulate you are dealing with. You will be required to pay a non-refundable visa application fee. There is an online visa application available, which allows you to complete and print the Form DS-160 to take to your F-1 visa interview. Schedule and Prepare for your Interview: You can schedule your F-1 visa interview with the U.S. embassy or consulate. Wait times for interview appointments vary by location, season, and visa category, so you should apply for your visa early. An F-1 student visa for the USA can be issued up to 120 days in advance of your course of study start date. You will only be able to enter the US with an F-1 visa 30 days before your start date. The following documents are required for your F-1 visa interview: A valid passport The Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160 The application fee payment receipt A passport photo A Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status (Form 1-20) Additional documents may be requested to prove your eligibility for the F-1 student visa, including academic transcripts, diplomas, degrees, or certificates. Test scores such as the TOEFL, SAT, GRE, or GMAT may also be requested, as well as proof of your intent to depart the U.S. after your program is complete and proof of your financial stability. Attend your F-1 Visa Interview: Your F-1 visa interview will determine whether you are qualified to receive an F-1 student visa for the USA. Assuming that you have prepared the appropriate documents and meet all of the F-1 visa requirements, your visa will be approved at the discretion of the consular officer. You may be required to pay a visa issuance fee. Digital fingerprint scans will be taken for records. Your passport will be taken so that you can get your visa and you will be informed when you can get it back, either by pick-up or in the mail. http://coursesabroad.org/list-of-visa-requirements-for-america-students-2018/ |

By Elvis Anselem “Regardless of who wins, an election should be a time for optimism and fresh approaches” – Gary Johnson. It is that time of the democratic calendar again, at least for the people of Anambra state. It is the time when they get to make the very difficult – or easy – decision on who they let run the affairs of the state for the next four years. The drums are beating and the masquerades have come to dance. The political atmosphere in the state is buoyant. As usual, political parties have selected their qualified candidates who, it is thought, should have the required qualities to sway the electorate’s vote in their favour. The ruling party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has current governor Mr Willie Obiano as its candidate. The campaign team of Mr Obiano has employed only the use of conventional campaign strategies and advertising. The way the social media aspect of the campaign is being run leaves so much to be desired. For one, the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the Obiano campaign are not being taken advantage of. A post/update every two days isn’t what the social media accounts of a gubernatorial candidate should be left at. The reliance on incumbency and testimonials of his achievements as governor of the state shouldn’t be the major campaign strategy being employed. The party looking like the strongest opposition to the ruling party is the United Progressives Party (UPP). This is because of the calibre of the opponent they’ve settled on; Osita Chidoka. The former aviation minister flagged off his campaign on the 30th day of September, 2017. The campaign team of Mr Chidoka has been doing tremendously well with their use of both online and offline campaigns. Mr Chidoka, a former Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Corps, set up campaign offices in all the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra state ahead of the November 18 governorship election. In the last two years, Osita has built a formidable ground game with over 20,000 campaign staff across 4,608 polling units in the state. The campaign has a 50-seat call centre from where volunteers make calls to registered voters across the state. With these numbers, one can see that Mr Chidoka’s offline campaign strategy is up there. For the online side of his campaign, his campaign team’s presence on social media is doing his cause a lot of good. Vibrant Facebook and Twitter accounts have brought him closer to both the electorate in Anambra and individuals outside the state. This is corroborated by the fact that the campaign has received numerous donations using the ‘No godfather’ mantra through the use of social media channels. The Chidoka campaign is also leveraging on the fact that Mr Osita has been in and around government parastatals almost his entire adult life, and so he has a vast knowledge of how a government should be run. The Chidoka campaign has a great hold of their conventional campaign strategies and also a good digital campaign strategy. If elections were won based on digital campaigns, Osita Chidoka would be the front runner for the governor’s seat. On to the People’s Democratic Party’s Oseloka Obaze. He’s got experience in government having been appointed as Secretary to the State Government of Anambra state from June 2012 till June 2015 by both former governor Peter Obi and incumbent Governor Willie Obiano. His campaign’s social media presence is good. The Oseloka Obaze page on Facebook is frequently updated with political messages. Oseloka Obaze is also active on his Twitter feed. On the overall, Oseloka’s online campaign is ‘okay’. The All Progressives Congress candidature being held by Tony Nwoye, a medical doctor by profession, is also an opposition that shouldn’t be over looked. Nwoye is a former member of the PDP. He even ran under that platform for the governorship position in 2013 but is currently running for same position under the auspices of the APC. He has a ‘fairly’ active social media presence. His Facebook and Twitter accounts are ‘remembered’ from time to time. Lately, I have been keeping up with the US Congress investigation of Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election and as an advocate of digital media, the revelations coming from this investigation leaves more to be desired. According to the CSO of Facebook, over $100,000 was spent on Facebook ads by a Russian company to amplify divisive social and political messages and promote fake news in the build-up to the election. A few days ago Facebook announced it will begin disclosing more about political ads that run on its network ahead of next week's congressional hearings where they will testify about Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential election. Facebook’s new policies include labeling political ads so they’re easier to identify, and creating a catalog of these and other ads so users can see how much political advertisers are paying and who they are targeting. However, these changes intended to create more transparency don’t appear to address the most problematic ads purchased last year by Kremlin-backed, online trolls. These ads, referred to as "issue ads," sought to stir social and political unrest in the United States around issues like Black Lives Matters and not necessarily to promote candidates like Donald Trump. And that for me is a big concern. How do we handle propaganda especially during elections? How do we fight fake news? Everything is possible in this brave new digital world and the struggle for control over access to information is the defining struggle of our times. The growth of social media has transformed propaganda and now it’s nearly impossible to regulate or officiate it. Ironically, with the way we are engaging with social media on daily basis to share our views, we have all become propagandists! Just recently I came across the post below here on Facebook. UN said if Anambra did not get up to 60% vote they will declare date of referendum to Biafra, again Nigeria sent message to UN that they will pull out from UN for supporting Biafrans so please help and share the message to all families in Anambra to stay at home on 18 Nove no election in Biafra land. This post is entirely false but unfortunately, has been shared by a lot of people. We really need to take this thing very seriously. You need to protect yourself online. You need to control your narratives. Propaganda and communicating technology have evolved side by side and with every new way to spread information, the dissemination of propaganda is bound to evolve as well. Whether you like it or not, Social Media has become a 'vessel of propaganda and manipulation'. Do not be the one to cry foul! Be strategic! Let's take care of your Online Reputation Management. Shoot us a mail at martin@mundus.ng let's get talking. Remember if you snooze, you lose!
