RomanceAdulthood And True Friendship by Muurian(op): 3:11pm On Dec 14, 2020
“In poverty as well as in other misfortunes, people suppose that friends are their only refuge. And friendship is a help to the young, in saving them from error, just as it is also to the old, with a view to the care they require and their diminished capacity for action stemming from their weakness; it is a help also to those in their prime in performing noble actions, for ‘two going together’ are better able to think and to act”

— Aristotle.

There are more than a million beautiful things said about friendship. When you think about it, you’ll realize that the best stories of triumph and love are tied to friendship. However, it’s not everyone that’s lucky enough to make true friends, especially in their childhood. And there are several people who live with the void all their lives. (Yes, in spite of their 5000 Facebook friends).

Aristotle’s writings cover many subjects, and his inputs on friendship still remain relevant in today’s discourse. He considered friendship “most necessary with a view to living. For without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods”. His work on friendship is timeless, because he identifies three kinds of friendship; a categorization that would resonate with everyone. According to Aristotle, friendship can be based on either of these three: pleasure, utility, or virtue.

Friendship based on pleasure is solely tied to emotional satisfaction, and is maintained only as long as enjoyable activities abound to keep the parties involved in the relationship. This can be seen amongst students, sometimes, who are brought together by activities such as sports or the likes. Similarly, in the friendship of utility, the persons are friends only because of certain benefits they each enjoy one from the other. In both cases—pleasure and utility—we have a flimsy friendship at best. They’re the sort of friendships that end when the parties involved change, even in the slightest, their preferences, or when one ceases to find another useful.

The third kind of friendship, however, is based on the mutual virtues that each friend appreciates in the person of the other. The persons in this friendship will wish each other good, because they care more about the other person than their own immediate needs. It is on this mutual care and appreciation that the ideal friendship is based. The affection between ideal friends is outlined perfectly in the Greek word for brotherly love: philia. As Jack Zavada espoused, “philia refers to love based on mutual respect, shared devotion, joint interests, and common values. It is the love near and dear friends have for one another”. Even more special, those who manage to build this kind of friendship will also reap the fruits of pleasure and utility. Because, anyone involved will be useful and beneficial to the other. Unlike other kinds of friendship, though, this kind takes time to build; but would last a lifetime.

When we then consider how much time it takes to build an ideal friendship, you begin to see why so many adults fail to make a dependable friend (not only of others, but of themselves also). Most adults would first look for the benefits they can get from others, before considering to befriend them. If the other party fails to satisfy their emotional or material demand, they detach themselves. This is because adults seldom have the patience or the will to build mutual trust, upon which all lasting friendships rest. True friendship thrives as result of the time and trial, required to build trust. As Aristotle wrote, “such friendship requires time and familiarity; as the proverb says, men cannot know each other till they have ‘eaten salt together’; nor can they admit each other to friendship or be friends till each has been found lovable and been trusted by each”. Without trust, a friendship will only last as long as the going is smooth. But we know that life can be rough too, and it’s only real friends that will stay with you during the storm. That’s why there’s a real chance to build a good friendship right from childhood; because then, we are yet to be poisoned with the dubiousness and apathy that comes with growing up.

Nevertheless, we’ve seen friendships spring from the unlikeliest of situations. We’ve heard about sworn enemies who sheathed their swords and embraced one another in true friendship. Thus, friendship has in itself the wisdom to draw willing adults into a relationship of mutual affection. Given a proper dose of patience and goodwill, adults too can build true friendship that will never end.

This is beautiful.

Any blogger that wants to go into blogging must learn the relevance of SEO. If you have a website, you need to use keywords relating to what you do, otherwise, people are less likely to visit your website.

Thanks for this.

SEO simply means ‘search engine optimization’.

Have you taken time to use the exact heading of your article to browse on any search engine?

To be honest, I also complain about my articles not ranking so high on search engines despite how beautiful and wonderful i think my articles or stories are. Like Thanos said, reality is often disappointing.

I’ve realised that it is easy to unleash vitriols and displeasure at our articles not trending, or going viral or generating the needed revenue. Some even get rejected after we must have taking out time to write them. As a writer, nothing else can be more demoralising. It’s so painful that, it has led many who ventured into writing to quit as soon as they started because they became frustrated and succumbed to it.

Before you start complaining that your write ups are not getting the required attention you intended as a writer, how much do you know about keywords and relevance?

I guess noone told you that people search for terms online through keywords and relevance. It’s something that is actually quite easy to imagine and comprehend. The internet is so big that only certain keywords will trigger search engines to locate the best optimally curated material specifically designed or written to address an online query.

Therefore, in order to rank high, it’s common sense that your articles should be SEO optimized for more engagement.

I once used a word for word quote of an article i wrote on OperaNewshub to see if i will at least see it ranking as the first link on Google search. The reality was totally disappointing for me. I had to give up searching for the article because it was nowhere to be found on Google search results. That was a really humbling experience, and it motivated me to write this article. As well as talking to you the reader, i’m also talking to myself because I’m still pretty much new to the world of SEO.

Before writing any article, its best to make sure it is SEO optimized. This fact cannot be overemphasized. You will be surprised at the number of articles with similar headlines and contents than yours on almost everything you can write on. The difference between each of this articles is how peculiar they are to the search terms being asked in search engines. Another thing is how well the articles are optimised for search engine results.

I learnt this lesson the hard way, and i know i would have gone far in my writing career if i knew about this simple tricks and tips which i am now sharing.

Tips to rank High on SEO

– Make sure you use at least 5 – 10 keywords relevant to your title inside the content of the article. It may be synonyms or other related keywords likely to trigger search engines in your favour.

– Most search engines have analytics you can easily use to know most popular keywords and search terms. Having knowledge of this terms will help your article and blogsite rank higher in search engines.

– Don’t just write on anything you like, write on what people will like to read. People’s attention span online is very limited. If the headline doesn’t feel useful, noone will click or read it no matter how beautiful or brain shattering the content is.

– Do your research very well. Don’t just copy and edit or rewrite old contents, also research on what you are writing about. It helps expand your knowledge of the topic and help give you a wider perspective about the topics vital concepts.

– Know what others are writing about the article you want to write about. Learning from the write up of other successful writers is something you should never ignore. They became successful for a reason, and whether or not your ego want it, successful writers have one or two things to say or teach you about writing.

Therefore, before you complain about your blog ranking low or your articles being rejected, ask yourself if it is SEO worthy.

I am not a religious person, so I don't subscribe to the notion of gods in religions or to many religious concepts.

I don't see God as an entity that has a name. I see it as a thing — a great source of energy without a name, form, language, or religion.

It is existence and not an entity meant to be worshipped, prayed to, and it doesn't interfere with our affairs.

Humans do everything.
On this we both agree on 100%. grin

Funny you. Who told you that?

Christianity was only founded around 2000 years ago, but homo sapiens have existed on this planet for over 280,000 years.

Before Christianity, humans worshipped pagan gods (people that were deified for achieving things no other humans had accomplished in their time).

First Cause, God, heaven, hell, resurrection of a god, soul are all concepts predating Christianity and Islam.
Okay, let me put it correctly. First Cause argument was publicised and made mainstream by Christians through Thomas Aquinas.

But, you are right. It predates Christianity. But, as you can see, First Cause is an argument that the universe couldn't just be without something starting it. Of course, the argument is flawed because... First Cause continues till infinity!
This is because, the basis of First Cause is that "Nothing Cannot Come From Nothing"

However, what I don't get is why the people proposing "First Cause" theory think it's their religious gods. For all we know, the First Cause could be Santa Claus or that annoying mosquito that want's to suck your blood...or the Flying Spaghetti monster.

Anyway, please when you are talking God, please include the god's name you are talking about in the context so that I will understand it better (whether Yahweh or Allah or Zeus, Amadioha or Ogun.) All of the time, i don't know what people mean by "God" spelled in capital letters. I mean, when you pronounce it, you don't pronounce a capital G!

My points are clear and are not contradictory in any way.

I stated what we call reality (the physical worlds) is only a projected reality.

Virtual worlds, bound by space and time.

The real worlds (inner worlds) don't have such restrictions, so time has no meaning there.

In that reality (where the Source or God is), there is no beginning nor end.
Well, if you think so!

But, know that the "First Cause" ish is a christian concept developed by Christians.

You should spend time and read simple arguments against the first cause ish! It is one of the weakest arguments parameters of all time! grin

What I said in the comment you quoted is enough to show that God (Energy) has no beginning nor end.

But you can believe whatever you like, even though you can't prove that something can come from nothing.

What I have experienced personally in life has shown life is much deeper than science or religion paints it.
I have taken my time to read all you have written. You practically proved his point right.

When it comes to the question of a "Creator", if you cannot prove what you are saying, no-one knows anything. Best to stop indulging in things you can't defend.

You started your arguments by saying "nothing comes from nothing", then you said the alleged 'God' you are referring to comes from nothing and then you chip in the "First Cause" card.

The funny thing is that you now want the person you are discussing with to show you proof of this:

"If you can show me how it's possible for something to come out of nothing whether quantum-mechanically, or using any concept, I will agree with you that something can exist without a first cause, however logically absurd that sounds."
Lol. You should really be taking time to read the things you post. Your arguments are self-contradictory.

EducationHow Can You Identify Intelligent People? by Muurian(op):
1) There is a certain aura of natural decency in the way they carry themselves. They have an inbuilt courtesy mannerism that makes it difficult for them to ever look down on you even if they are more knowledgeable.

2) They treat everyone equal. An intelligent person always respects people, and will relate to you in a decent and open-minded manner. Well, except you start showing a funny side which they may not be comfortable with; they may choose to start ignoring you.

3) Intelligent people don't feel insecure about the intelligence of other people. Rather, it attracts them. They don't get repelled by the fact that someone else is more knowledgeable than them. Their curiousity is sure to increase, and they will learn from the person instead.

4) They have an insatiable appetite and desire for knowledge and experience. Intelligent people know that knowledge and experience rule the world. They learn, they unlearn, and relearn. They also repeat the cycle because if you stop learning, the mind starts to deteriorate.

5) They pay attention to detail, and may appear to be perfectionists at times. This comes from their meticulous nature of doing things to the best of their ability as opposed to doing something for glory or personal glamour.

6) Intelligent people may keep procrastinating a work for a while, but they usually finish the work in one single sweep when they eventually decide to do the work. Though this may seem like a good trait at first, overtime the procrastination may lead to many unfinished works, overburdening the mind, causing exasperation in the process. Therefore, as much as possible, an intelligent person ensures that procrastination doesn't take the place of actualising set goals.

7) Every intelligent person i know is broad-minded and love constructive discourses about ideas, politics, religion and concepts.

cool Intelligent people accept people for who they are, knowing fully well that everyone have their own personal baggages and different life experiences. They embrace other people's culture and will share in the good attributes of such culture whenever they can.

9) Intelligent people are open minded person's who will never discriminate against anyone because of where they come from or the religion they practice. An intelligent person knows that maturity involves acceptance of other people's culture without bias towards their gender, race, religion or ethnic origin.

10) Intelligent people make mistakes too. However, they're quick to self-correct the mistake, and so you may always think they're saints and the world has lined a smooth sailing passage for them. No! Intelligent people also have their personal problems, but they don't let it get it in the way of their common sense of reason. It doesn't give them an excuse to turn to jerks and start throwing queer tantrums at random to the world or people.

Because their situation in life rarely affect their mannerisms, other people will always misinterpret their behaviour and assign their own different conflicting interpretation.

Education8 Habits To Lead A More Peaceful Life by Muurian(op): 7:59am On Dec 01, 2020
2face Idibia once said “Life is so simple, but they make it complicated”. I think this summarises the underlying principle of life. Your life is yours to live, you don’t owe anybody any explanation on how you live your life so long as you are not hurting anyone.

Living a simple and peaceful life is as easy as it comes. However, like with everything else, it totally depends on the way and manner you approach situations in life. Here are 8 simple habits i have curated to help you live a very peaceful life. By inculcating some or all of the points listed here, you will be removing unnecessary and avoidable baggages.

1. Stop yourself from being judgemental
.

It’s easy to judge other people. By judging others, most people pass down their views. Most people don’t realise that the moment you express your opinion of anything, you have passed a judgement.

You need to stop this. Opinions change, and they change very fast depending on situations. Before giving your opinion of anything, make sure you know the implications. If someone values your opinion, and it turned out to be trash, you would have disrespected yourself, and lost your dignity.

Note that opinions are different from statement of facts. Statement of facts are verifiable, unlike opinion. This Is not to say that some opinions are not conceived from facts.

2. Say ‘thank you’ early and often.

Gratitude is a virtue. At all times, learn how to be grateful. For all the things you think you don’t have, there are many more you have but are probably taking for granted.

Think of all the good things that has happened and is still happening in your life. Be grateful for them, and know that no-one has it all. The happiest people are those who are grateful for the little they have. Say ‘thank you’ always.

3. Smile more, Be yourself
.

In case you don’t know how to, you could always smile to the other fella staring back at you in the mirror. Yes, use the mirror and practice the art of smiling. Smiling does open doors. Smiling makes you approachable.

Trust me, no-one wants to approach an angry or frowning looking person. We all have reasons to be angry or frown i guess, but there’s no need carrying it about on your face all day. Ain’t no prize for the best frowns!

4. Don’t worry about the future.

Well, actually, you can’t stop worrying about the future. However, you can stop worrying about things from the future that is not going to help your life today.

Remember, you need to live through today first before you can have a future to look forward to tomorrow. So, stop worrying about the future, and focus on the now. If you can make now better, you would have created a great future for yourself.

5. Listen to understand, not to respond.

You find that most people have their premeditated speeches stored in their mind. This forces them to focus more on trying to pour it all out during conversations or arguments. This approach may be wrong.

There is more to learn in listening. The more you listen, the more your mind becomes more critical and analytical. This helps the mind become more sharper, and with the ability to decipher what is important for the individual, including how to contribute meaningfully to any conversation.

By focusing on listening, your mind is forced to be critical, and to carefully interpret the information it is recieving.

6. Don’t procrastinate
.

This cannot be overemphasized anymore. Procrastination is the enemy of time. In fact, anytime you get the urge to shift a particular chore you are supposed to do, that’s the moment you should do that chore immediately and be done with it.

When you procrastinate, you end up creating issues for your mind and brain. Your brains attention will forever be drawn to that unattended chores, and will metamorphose into a worrying spree for you.

You can avoid this by simply doing the work or chore immediately it comes up on your to-do menu.

7. Prioritize yourself
.

Everyone is selfish, you should too. You should always come first in everything you do. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t help others when they ask for your help or go out of your way to help another. No, it simply means that when push comes to shove, you should always choose yourself.

8. Stop criticizing.

Most people are self-acclaimed critics. They will criticise everything and everyone else, but never themselves.

If you are among this group of people, you need to change this habit. Constant criticism of others most times it’s just a show of lack or frustration in the individual doing the criticism. Most of the times, the person doesn’t even realise it.
