On May 15, 2026, armed gunmen attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area: Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Ahoro-Esinle — abducting around 39 pupils, including toddlers, and seven teachers. (YouTube)

The principal of one of the schools released distress messages that broke the nation's heart. Some of the children have since been confirmed dead. Others remain in the bush, in the hands of armed kidnappers, as their families wait, pray, and grieve.
This is the tragedy Davido chose to shine a global spotlight on.
🎤 Davido's Side — "I Have a Voice. I Used It."
By displaying the message on an international stage, Davido used his global platform to amplify calls for the safe return of those still in captivity. Photos and videos of the performance quickly circulated online, prompting praise from many Nigerians who commended the singer for drawing international attention to the abduction crisis. The argument for what Davido did is simple and powerful: the Nigerian government has been dragging its feet on insecurity for years. Politicians talk. Children die. The only thing that sometimes forces action is shame — and nothing creates shame faster than a global spotlight.
Davido didn't start the kidnapping. He didn't make the children less safe. He made their names known to the world. And for families still waiting for their children, that visibility may be the difference between a government that ignores them and one that is forced to act.

🧨 The Problem With Reno's Argument
Here is what many Nigerians are firing back with online — and it is a fair point:
The Chibok girls are STILL missing — over a decade later. The quiet approach didn't work either. Leah Sharibu is still in captivity. The discreet, behind-the-scenes strategy that Reno is advocating has a very poor track record in Nigeria.
If silence and discretion were the answer, where are the results?
And there is something else Nigerians are noting: Omokri has also previously defended the Federal Government over the Oyo abductions, arguing that it is unrealistic to expect the government to provide security for every school across the country — and that insecurity in Nigeria should be viewed within the wider context of growing security challenges across the Sahel region. 🤔 The Real Question Nigeria Must Answer
Both men raise legitimate points. But the bigger question sits underneath this debate:
Why is Nigeria still in a situation where a global music star has to use a FIFA World Cup stage to beg for the release of toddlers kidnapped from their classrooms?
Not Davido's jacket. Not Reno's press statement. The Nigerian government's failure is the story. Every day those children remain in the bush is a day the administration has failed its most sacred duty — protecting its citizens.
