Eating Healthy when Diagnosed of Diabetes can suddenly seem like a nightmare to those with diabetes. You have to always pay extreme attention to foods like carbohydrates and sugar. Even foods that most people think are safe, like fruits and vegetables, can become a problem for you when you have to spend every day of your life keeping records of the foods that you eat.

Regardless of the fact that your diabetes will be easier to control, a healthy diet can help in more ways. Following a recommended diabetic diet from your doctor or dietitian will help you lose weight too, which can also help with controlling diabetes.

Here are some tips on you can still be eating healthy when diagnosed of diabetes

Eat Enough Fiber
Fiber Helps control blood sugar levels. In people with diabetes, fiber, particularly soluble fiber can slow the absorption of sugar and help improve blood sugar levels. A healthy diet that includes insoluble fiber may also reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

What is the best fiber for diabetics? Soluble fiber (found in foods like oatmeal, seeds, nuts, oat bran, dried peas, lentils, beans, apples, pears, strawberries, blueberries) dissolves easily in water, and can lower cholesterol by carrying out excess cholesterol when the fiber is excreted from the body

Fiber is usually one of those things that is always recommended when it comes to losing weight and staying regular. Your body doesn’t absorb dietary fiber, instead it sucks the nutrients it needs from it and pushes the rest right through the system. Dietary fiber is mostly found in vegetables, legumes, whole grains and fruit.

Follow your doctor’s recommendation on how much of these foods you should eat because strawberries may be rich in fiber but are also high in natural sugars, These foods also help with heart health...

Get the Good Fats
Two times per week it can be beneficial to eat fish. Most fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are the good fats. They help fight cholesterol, which is rich in red meats and can even be found in white meat like chicken.

Even a simple can of tuna is a good source of omega-3’s. However you can find them in fresh fish too, if you prefer catching your own meals. You can also get good fats from nuts, if fish just isn’t your thing. But note that fish oil is one of the best sources.

Be a Carb Counter
You don’t want to cut out carbohydrates, they help give your body energy. However, you do want to make sure your getting healthy carbs. That means getting your carbs from the fiber foods mentioned previously.

Carbs break down and become glucose in the human system. This is why your carbohydrate intake is very important to keep an eye on. Many dietitians will recommend that you eat the same amount of carbs each day around the same time to keep your levels even.

Eggs
Eggs provide amazing health benefits.

In fact, they’re one of the best foods for keeping you full for hours.

Regular egg consumption may also reduce your heart disease risk in several ways.

Eggs decrease inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, increase your “good” HDL cholesterol levels and modify the size and shape of your “bad” LDL cholesterol.

In one study, people with type 2 diabetes who consumed 2 eggs daily as part of a high-protein diet had improvements in cholesterol and blood sugar levels (35Trusted Source).

In addition, eggs are one of the best sources of lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants that protect the eyes from disease.
Be sure to eat whole eggs. The benefits of eggs are primarily due to nutrients found in the yolk rather than the white.

Turmeric
Turmeric is a spice with powerful health benefits.

Its active ingredient, (curcumin), can lower inflammation and blood sugar levels, while reducing the risk of heart disease.

What’s more, curcumin appears to benefit kidney health in diabetics. This is important, as diabetes is one of the leading causes of kidney disease .

Unfortunately, curcumin isn’t absorbed that well on its own. Be sure to consume turmeric with piperine (found in black pepper) in order to boost absorption by as much as 2,000%

Nuts
These nuts are delicious, nutritious and are safe for diabetic people.

All types of nuts contain fiber and are low in digestible carbs, although some have more than others.

Here are the amounts of digestible carbs per 1-oz (28-gram) serving of nuts:

Almonds: 2.6 grams
Brazil nuts: 1.4 grams
Cashews: 7.7 grams
Hazelnuts: 2 grams
Macadamia: 1.5 grams
Pecans: 1.2 grams
Pistachios: 5 grams
Walnuts: 2 grams

Health / How To Deal With Depression by Myhealthetic: 7:04pm On Mar 14, 2020
Source: https://myhealthetic.com/2020/03/14/how-to-deal-with-depression/

There are range of ways to deal with depression, and often they are best used in conjunction with each other. The primary medical options are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), antidepressant medication, and in some severe cases, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Education and coping strategies are also important when learning to manage your depression.

What is Depression?
According to Mayoclinic, Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It is a disorder that is evidenced by excessive sadness, loss of interest in enjoyable things, and low motivation.

Do you Feel Sad
Sadness can be a difficult emotion to deal with, not only due to the pain it causes, but also because of the factors that caused the sadness in the first place. Sadness can be the result of loss, helplessness, or disappointment, among many other things. It is important to remember, though, that sadness is one of the most common and natural human emotions, and is something that will ultimately help us appreciate our happy times.

Sometimes, though, it is possible for sadness to deepen, and this may be a sign that you are suffering from a form of depression. If you feel as though you are increasingly sad, and feel like your sadness is difficult to explain, this information on depression may help.

What Causes Depression

Causes of depression could be idiopathic. However ,depression could be as a result of family history of depression. Some people experience depression during a serious medical illness. Others may have depression with life changes such as the death of a loved one.

Major causes of depression

There are a number of factors that may increase the chance of depression, including the following:

Abuse. Past physical, sexual, or emotional abuse can traumatize and cause depression.

Certain medications. Certain drugs used to treat high blood pressure, such as beta-blockers or reserpine, corticosteroids, opioids are capable of increasing your risk of depression.

Conflict. Personal conflicts or disputes with family members or friends could cause depression.

Death or a loss. Death or loss of a loved one, naturally causes depression.

Gene. A family history of depression may increase the risk.

Major events. Losing a job or income, getting divorced, or retiring can cause depression.

Other personal problems. Problems such as social isolation due to other mental illnesses or being cast out of a family or social group can cause depression.

Serious illnesses. Certain serious or life threatening illnesses like Cancer can lead to depression.
Substance abuse. Nearly 30% of people with substance abuse problems also have major or clinical depression.

Signs of depression

Feeling miserable. This misery is present for much of the day but may vary in its intensity. The misery lasts for weeks.

Loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities.

Slowed or inefficient thinking with poor concentration, leading to difficulties sorting out problems or making plans or decisions.
Recurring unpleasant thoughts, particularly about being guilty, being a bad and unworthy person,
Thoughts that you would be better off dead or of harming yourself in some way.

Loss of appetite with excessive loss of weight.

Loss of energy, even when not physically active.

Insomnia, despite feeling exhausted. Sleep is typically restless and unsatisfying with early morning wakening (one to two hours earlier than usual). Some people, however, may actually sleep a lot more than usual.

Slowed activity and speech

How to treat Depression
Exercise
30 minutes of physical activity 3 to 5 days a week can help alleviate depression. Exercise can increase your body’s production of endorphins, which are hormones that improve your mood.

Stay away from alcohol and drugs
Drinking or abusing substances or drugs may make you feel better for a little bit. But along the line, these substances can make depression and anxiety symptoms worse.

Psychotherapy
Speaking with a therapist can help you learn skills to cope with negative feelings.

Medications
Your healthcare provider may prescribe:

antidepressants
antianxiety
antipsychotic medications

Preventing depression
Sometimes, depression may not be preventable. It’s literally hard to identify what causes it which makes preventing it more difficult.

Techniques that may help prevent or reduce depression include:

regular exercise
getting plenty of sleep
maintaining treatments
reducing stress
building strong relationships with others.

Nightmares according to webmd are vividly realistic, disturbing dreams that rattle you awake from a deep sleep

Nightmares are usually a common phenomenon. They are disturbing dreams that are associated with negative feelings, such as fear or anxiety.

Nightmares or bad dreams are usually common in kids especially below 16 years of age, but can also occur at any age.

Nightmares may start in children between the ages of 3 and 6, and tend to drop after 10 years of age. During the teenage and young adult years, female children appear to have more nightmares than male kids do.

Some adults too have nightmares and in few cases, persists throughout their lives. Although nightmares are quite frequent, the disorder is relatively rare.

Nightmare disorder is diagnosed when nightmares happen frequently, disrupts sleep, causes distress, causes problems with daytime functioning, or trigger fear of going to sleep leading to insomnia.

Symptoms of Nightmare

One is more likely to suffer a nightmare in the second half of their night. Nightmares are unpredictable, and may rarely occur or happen more frequently, even occur several times a night.

Episodes of nightmares are generally brief, but they cause a person to awaken in shock and find it difficult to return to sleep.

Health / These Are Killing Your Kidney by Myhealthetic: 9:49am On Feb 27, 2020
Gotten from: https://myhealthetic.com/2020/02/27/habits-that-cause-kidney-disease-these-are-killing-your-kidney/

Kidney is one of the vital organs in the body which requires utmost care. Failure to care for or protect the kidney results to kidney diseases or kidney failure
The speed at which young people suffer from kidney disease is alarming.

HERE ARE THE MAIN CAUSES OF KIDNEY DISEASE

Holding back your urine
Keeping your urine in your bladder too long is a bad idea. A full bladder can cause bladder damage. The urine left in the bladder multiplies the bacteria quickly. Once the urine returns to the ureter and kidneys, toxic substances can lead to kidney infections, then urinary infections, then nephritis and even uremia. When nature calls, do it as soon as possible.

Too much salt intake
You should not eat more than 5.8 grams of salt a day.
Eating too much red meat. Too much protein in your diet is harmful to your kidneys. Protein digestion produces ammonia, a very destructive toxin for the kidneys. More meat equals more kidney damage.

Drinking too much caffeine
Caffeine is a component of many sodas and soft drinks. This increases your blood pressure and your kidneys begin to suffer. So you should reduce the amount of coke you drink every day.

Overusing Painkillers
Some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that are meant for pain relief in things like headaches and muscle pain can actually cause damage and lead to higher chances of developing kidney Disease.

Eating processed food
Packaged food contains a lot of sodium which affects the heart and can cause kidney problems. By consuming too much salt the organs have to work more to excrete the excess salt.

Smoking
Lung cancer is not the only risk of cigarettes. Smoking can harm the whole body by increasing blood pressure, lowering the circulation and constricting blood vessels in the kidneys.

Missing Out on Sleep
A good night’s rest is extremely important to your overall well-being and, it turns out, your kidneys. Kidney function is regulated by the sleep-wake cycle which helps coordinate the kidneys’ workload over 24 hours.

Drinking too much alcohol
Intake of too much alcohol has been found to be one of the major habits that cause kidney disease. It doubles the risk chronic kidney disease. Heavy drinkers who also smoke have an even higher risk of kidney problems. Smokers who are heavy drinkers have about five times the chance of developing chronic kidney disease than people who don’t smoke or drink alcohol in excess.

A good number of adults have no idea UV rays can damage their eyes.

THE EFFECTS OF SUN’S RAYS

Sunlight is essential not only to life, but for mood as well. It’s such an incredible feeling to feel the sun on our skin, especially the early morning rays. Unfortunately, sun rays do not have only beneficial effects. Without adequate protection, it tends to damage the skin. This damage can be manifested immediately, such as in the form of a sunburn, or over time.

Below is an overview of the effects of the sun on skin and health.

Sunburn

A sunburn can develop within a few hours following excessive sun exposure. It is mostly common in fair, light skinned people or albinos. It can result in mild and transient symptoms, such as skin redness and a feeling of tightness or discomfort. It sometimes causes significant redness, pain and the appearance of peeling skin or blisters. It can also be accompanied by fever.

This burn is usually a first degree burn. It is a skin burn that requires first aid. Serious cases even warrant a medical visit. It is always preferable to see a doctor if a baby or child is sunburned.

Heatstroke is another example of a serious reaction to excessive sun exposure that often requires medical care.

Photo sensitivity reactions

Photo-sensitivity is an abnormal reaction to the combined action of certain substances and exposure to sun rays. Various types of products, including certain cosmetic products or perfumes are not compatible with the sun.

Certain medications can also cause photo-sensitivity reactions, in other words, change the way skin reacts to the sun. Among them, we find antibiotics, diuretics, hormones (e.g., birth control medication) and acne products.

Tanning

Sun tan occurs when the sun’s rays penetrate deeply into the skin’s layers, stimulating the production of melanin, which rises to the surface of the skin. This process gives the skin its tanned colour following exposure to the sun. It is a mechanism used by the body to protect the skin.

Contrary to popular belief, a suntan is not a sign of good health. In fact, it is a response by the body to an aggression. Generally speaking, the darker the tan, the greater the damage to the skin. Suntanning should never be relied on as an effective sun protection measure. Instead, it should serve as a reminder of the importance of better protecting your skin.

Premature aging of the skin

The sun’s rays have the immediate effect of drying out the skin. Overexposure can sometimes lead to loss of moisture and elasticity, making lines and wrinkles suddenly seem more apparent.

However, in the long-term, it is the aging of the skin that is most concerning. When individuals expose their skin to the sun frequently or for long periods of time, their skin ages faster. This can be explained, among other things, by the fact that ultraviolet rays damage skin cells by altering their membrane and by destroying their DNA chain.

The appearance of age spots (or dark spots) is directly linked to exposure to ultraviolet rays and causes esthetic concerns for many people, especially women. The spots are the result of the hyperproduction of melanin. These often stubborn spots accumulate over time. Effective sun protection helps to prevent this problem.

Skin cancer

A connection between sun exposure and skin cancer has been clearly demonstrated. The more a person has been exposed to the sun during his/her lifetime, the higher the risk of developing skin cancer.

Some skin cancers are relatively easy to treat and heal, while others are more serious and have a grimmer prognosis, especially if they are not detected early. Adequate sun protection throughout one’s life, especially during childhood and adolescence, significantly helps to reduce the risks of skin cancer.

Sun protection

In order to counter the harmful effects of the sun, nothing works better than to apply strict measures to provide season-long protection starting at a young age and throughout one’s lifetime.

Limiting sun exposure as much as possible is certainly an effective protection measure. However, when contact with the sun is unavoidable or intended, the application of an effective, quality sunscreen is crucial. Opt for a formulation that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or more and that is suitable for your skin type.

Health / How Sex Enhancing Drugs Kills You by Myhealthetic: 12:56pm On Feb 26, 2020
Source: https://myhealthetic.com/2020/03/02/how-sex-enhancing-drugs-kills-you/

sex enhancing drugs are known as aphrodisiacs. They are either foods, tablets, drinks that stimulate sexual desire. These drugs were primarily produced to help some men with weak erection or erectile dysfunction have a more enjoyable sex life. Examples are Viagra, Vega-100, Cialis

Sex enhancing drugs, like every other drug has its prescription and overdose of it is capable of sending you to an early grave in just few seconds.

A lot of people especially women, when asked, say that normal sex should last at least 20 minutes to an hour long etc. Now, this is where the sex enhancing drugs come in. Sex is not a “do or die affair“. The normal duration of sex should be atleast 3-7 minutes.

Most men see sex as a challenge or a battle which they most win, and as a result end up dead on the long run. According to Webmd, potentially risky ingredients were found in drugs like viagra.

How does sex enhancing drugs harm you?

Vision change: Most men who take Sex enhancement pills develop visual disturbances in the form of blurred vision, impaired color vision, or a bluish haze. In most cases, there could be partial or total blindness.

Nasal congestion and runny nose: Runny nose or nasal congestion could result after taking sex enhancing drugs. They are usually minor because these symptoms go on their own without treatments.

Kidney and Liver damage: Aphrodisiacs have chemical substances that are dangerous to the body’s vital organs such as liver and kidney. Once they are damaged, these organs can be difficult to fix, and death will result.

Interactions with other drugs: Sex enhancement drugs reacts badly with other drugs that you may be taking eg Antibiotics, antifungal etc. This can result to death in no time.

Risk for heart failure: Most men who have suffered from certain cardiovascular diseases like hypertension, cardiac arrest, or those who are suffering from cardiac failure should never take this sex enhancing drug because this can lead to instant death.

According to webmd, In March 14, 2000, research shows that 522 patients have died while taking Viagra (sildenafil) in the first year the drug was on the market. Since its introduction in March of 1998, more than 12 million prescriptions of the blockbuster treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) have been written. There are continued concerns that the drug could trigger heart problems and in some cases, lead to instant death.

Most men now do not have sex for the pleasure but due to fear of being tagged a “weakling” which makes them take these sex enhancing drugs in excess and end up dead during the process.

Myhealthetic:
Source: https://myhealthetic.com/2020/02/09/why-women-with-genital-mutilation-circumcised-women-dont-enjoy-sex-expert/

Female genital mutilation or female circumcision, is the partial or total removal of the female external Instruments due to non-medical reasons. This could be as a result of some cultural practices.

According to Dr Esther Somefun, a Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst (GRHA), women who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) find it difficult to enjoy sex.

According to Vanguard news, women find it difficult to enjoy sex because the external female organ, the clitoris which ensure lubrication during sex has been cut off”.

These women can also experience painful sex, infertility, pelvic inflammatory Diseases (PID), menstrual pains and keloids.

Female genital mutilation can also cause obstructed labour due to the narrowing of the external Instruments. Women with type two and three FGM are most at risk during child birth.”

The expert said lubricants can be used but it will not totally resolve the pain experienced during sex.

She disclosed that corrective surgery can be done to open the female Instruments to allow for easy passage of the male genitals.

There is no risk of gynecological problems including painful menstruation, no repeated pelvic infections or problems of infertility and urinary tract infections.

“Sexual intercourse will not be painful and there is no risk of obstructed labour.”

Those experiencing female genital mutilation complications should see a gynecologist. Parents and girls should join the advocacy against the act.

Key facts on Female genital mutilation according to WHO

Female genital mutilation (FGM) involves the partial or total removal of external female Instruments or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
The practice has no health benefits for girls and women.
FGM can cause severe bleeding and problems urinating, and later cysts, infections, as well as complications in childbirth and increased risk of newborn deaths.
More than 200 million girls and women alive today have been cut in 30 countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia where FGM is concentrated (1).
FGM is mostly carried out on young girls between infancy and age 15.
FGM is a violation of the human rights of girls and women.
WHO is opposed to all forms of FGM, and is opposed to health care providers performing FGM (medicalization of FGM).
Treatment of health complications of FGM in 27 high prevalence countries costs 1.4 billion USD per year.
There are no health benefits, only severe harm
severe pain
excessive bleeding (haemorrhage)
genital tissue swelling
fever
infections e.g., tetanus
urinary problems
wound healing problems
injury to surrounding genital tissue
shock
death.
urinary problems (painful urination, urinary tract infections);
vaginal problems (discharge, itching, bacterial vaginosis and other infections);
menstrual problems (painful menstruations, difficulty in passing menstrual blood, etc.);
scar tissue and keloid;
sexual problems (pain during intercourse, decreased satisfaction, etc.);
increased risk of childbirth complications (difficult delivery, excessive bleeding, caesarean section, need to resuscitate the baby, etc.) and newborn deaths;
psychological problems (depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, low self-esteem, etc.);

Who is at risk?

Female genital is mostly carried out on young girls sometime between infancy and adolescence, and occasionally on adult women. More than 3 million girls are estimated to be at risk annually.

The practice is mainly concentrated in the Western, Eastern, and North-Eastern regions of Africa, in some countries the Middle East and Asia, as well as among migrants from these areas. FGM is therefore a global concern.

Health / Cancer Causing Household Products by Myhealthetic: 9:40pm On Feb 19, 2020
Source: https://myhealthetic.com/2020/02/19/cancer-causing-household-products/

Do you know that some everyday household products/items could cause cancer? Here are some cancer causing house hold products.

We are all aware that avoiding smoking, limiting alcohol intake, and limiting exposure to LED lights lowers the chances of getting cancer. However, we may not realize that some everyday products we use at home are cancer causing household products and could really be dangerous to our health and even life threatening.

Here are some list of household products that are known carcinogens ( substances capable of causing cancer in living tissue).

1. Air fresheners

Especially sprayed air freshener
When your house or apartment has a foul or disturbing odor, you might be too quick to grab an air freshener. While they’re a staple in many households, some conventional air fresheners are a hotbed of substances that can leave you or a loved one in your house very ill. In a 2008 study published in the journal Environmental Impact Assessment Review, researchers tested six products for toxic chemicals, some of which were air fresheners. Five of the six products tested emitted one or more carcinogenic chemicals.

2. Household cleaning products/chemicals

Your household cleaning products could cause cancer
Some products that helps in keeping your house clean can also contain carcinogenic substances. The Environmental Working Group has a Cleaners Hall of Shame list with the worst offenders. In the EWG Group’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning, nearly three-quarters of the 2,500 cleaning products listed contain ingredients that can harm respiratory health, and more than one-quarter contain carcinogenic ingredients. About half of all the products scored low in regards to ingredient disclosure, making it tough to know exactly what ingredients were added.

3. Dryer sheets

In a study conducted, 25 scented household products were tested for hazardous chemicals. Nearly half of all the products tested generated at least one carcinogenic air pollutant, and various brands of dryer sheets were tested in this study. Thanks to the olfactory magic of some fabric-softener sheets. They’re a simple product made to soften fabric fibers and give your clothes a nice scent. However, this fragrance could pose health risks, as toxins can permeate those sheets and transfer from your clothes to your skin which could lead to skin cancer.

Other Cancer causing household products are..

4. Pesticides

pesticides in fruits and veggies
If you have trouble growing fruits and veggies in your garden because of insects, or rodents, you’ve probably used soil containing pesticides to help your produce grow. Pesticides ward away the living things that can destroy your crops, but they’re also carcinogenic. NCBI has stated that studies are finding evidence pesticides used for home gardening are associated with increased cancer risk.

5. Food dye

Food dye is found in nearly every processed food, drink, vitamin, and dietary supplement. Studies have shown nine types used in the U.S. could be carcinogenic. According to healthline, most food dyes may contain contaminants that are known cancer-causing substances.

6. Pet flea collars

Be mindful of your pet-collars
You’re not cleaning your house with this product, but if you have a pet that ventures outdoors, we’re betting it has a flea collar. According to NRDC, Residue levels produced by some flea collars are so high that they pose a risk of cancer and damage to the neurological system of children up to 1,000 times higher than the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s acceptable levels. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers two chemicals found in some varieties of these collars to be carcinogens — propoxur and tetrachlorvinphos. Not only are these chemicals potentially cancer-causing, but they can also cause neurological damage to children.

7. Facial moisturizers

Your moisturizer can cause skin cancer
Applying moisturizer every day is necessary for good skin care, but many facial creams contain known carcinogenic chemicals (parabens ) which are linked to breast cancer. According to Elle, Parabens are believed to disrupt hormone function by mimicking oestrogen. Too much oestrogen can trigger an increase in breast cell division and growth of tumours, which is why paraben use has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues. These common preservatives are used in foundations, cosmetic creams, and anti-aging products of all kinds. While parabens help to prevent bacterial growth and yeast from forming in your favorite products, the European Commission on Endocrine Disruption has listed these chemicals as category 1 substances known for their endocrine disrupting capabilities. These disruptions can potentially cause tumors or other disorders.

8. Laundry detergent

We all must wear clean clothes, but detergents likely harbors a chemical called 1,4-dioxane, and it isn’t just found in laundry detergent — it’s in automotive coolant liquids, cosmetics, bath products, and even in the air we breathe. Studies reveals some animals exposed to this chemical were at a much higher risk of developing cancer. While there is little information regarding how humans fare when exposed to 1,4-dioxane over a lifetime, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Environmental Protection Agency consider the chemical a likely carcinogen.

9. Nail polish

Nail polish could cause cancer
Women may really have to worry about this potentially cancer-causing product. Many nail polishes contain formaldehyde, which the Occupational Safety and Health Administration says increases cancer risks. Formaldehyde can also be found in nail disinfectant tools used in salons, so you stand an even higher risk of exposure if you pay to get your nails done instead of painting them yourself.

Health / Re: Why Women With Genital Mutilation (circumcised Women) Don’t Enjoy Sex – Expert by Myhealthetic: 8:05pm On Feb 15, 2020
Myhealthetic:
Female genital mutilation or female circumcision, is the partial or total removal of the female external Instruments due to non-medical reasons. This could be as a result of some cultural practices.

According to Dr Esther Somefun, a Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst (GRHA), women who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) find it difficult to enjoy sex.

According to Vanguard news, women find it difficult to enjoy sex because the external female organ, the clitoris which ensure lubrication during sex has been cut off”.

These women can also experience painful sex, infertility, pelvic inflammatory infections, menstrual pains and keloids.

There are no health benefits, only severe harm
severe pain
excessive bleeding (haemorrhage)
genital tissue swelling
fever
infections e.g., tetanus
urinary problems
wound healing problems
injury to surrounding genital tissue
shock
death.
urinary problems (painful urination, urinary tract infections);
vaginal problems (discharge, itching, bacterial vaginosis and other infections);
menstrual problems (painful menstruations, difficulty in passing menstrual blood, etc.);
scar tissue and keloid;
sexual problems (pain during intercourse, decreased satisfaction, etc.);
increased risk of childbirth complications (difficult delivery, excessive bleeding, caesarean section, need to resuscitate the baby, etc.) and newborn deaths;
psychological problems (depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, low self-esteem, etc.);

Health / Leading Causes Of Breast Cancer by Myhealthetic: 7:52pm On Feb 15, 2020
Breast cancer is a cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States after skin cancer. Breast cancer can occur in both men and women, but it is more common in women.

below are some leading causes of breast cancer..

Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of breast cancer may include:

Nipple discharge
Nipple changes
A breast lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue
Change in the size, shape or appearance of a breast
Changes to the skin over the breast, such as dimpling
A newly inverted nipple
Peeling, scaling, crusting or flaking of the pigmented area of skin surrounding the nipple (areola) or breast skin
Redness or pitting of the skin over your breast, like the skin of an orange

Causes
Breast cancer occurs when some breast cells begin to grow abnormally. These cells divide more rapidly than healthy cells do and continue to accumulate, forming a lump or mass. Cells may spread (metastasize) through your breast to your lymph nodes or to other parts of your body.

Risk factors
A breast cancer risk factor is anything that makes it more likely you’ll get breast cancer. But having one or even several breast cancer risk factors doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll develop breast cancer. Many women who develop breast cancer have no known risk factors other than simply being women.

Factors that are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer include:

Leading causes of breast cancer:

Being female. Women are much more likely than men are to develop breast cancer.
Increasing age. Your risk of breast cancer increases as you age.
A personal history of breast conditions. If you’ve had a breast biopsy that found lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) or atypical hyperplasia of the breast, you have an increased risk of breast cancer.
A personal history of breast cancer. If you’ve had breast cancer in one breast, you have an increased risk of developing cancer in the other breast.
A family history of breast cancer. If your mother, sister or daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer, particularly at a young age, your risk of breast cancer is increased. Still, the majority of people diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease.
Inherited genes that increase cancer risk. Certain gene mutations that increase the risk of breast cancer can be passed from parents to children. The most well-known gene mutations are referred to as BRCA1 and BRCA2. These genes can greatly increase your risk of breast cancer and other cancers, but they don’t make cancer inevitable.
Radiation exposure. If you received radiation treatments to your chest as a child or young adult, your risk of breast cancer is increased.
Obesity. Being obese increases your risk of breast cancer.
Beginning your period at a younger age. Beginning your period before age 12 increases your risk of breast cancer.
Beginning menopause at an older age. If you began menopause at an older age, you’re more likely to develop breast cancer.
Having your first child at an older age. Women who give birth to their first child after age 30 may have an increased risk of breast cancer.
Having never been pregnant. Women who have never been pregnant have a greater risk of breast cancer than do women who have had one or more pregnancies.
Postmenopausal hormone therapy. Women who take hormone therapy medications that combine estrogen and progesterone to treat the signs and symptoms of menopause have an increased risk of breast cancer. The risk of breast cancer decreases when women stop taking these medications.
Drinking alcohol. Drinking alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer

Health / Gonorrhea- Symptoms And Treatment by Myhealthetic: 7:03pm On Feb 15, 2020
What is gonorrhea?

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It’s caused by infection with the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It tends to infect warm, moist areas of the body, including the:

urethra (the tube that drains urine from the urinary bladder)
eyes
throat
vagina
anus
female reproductive tract (the fallopian tubes, cervix, and uterus)
Gonorrhea passes from person to person through unprotected oral, anal, or vaginal sex. People with numerous sexual partners or those who don’t use a condom are at greatest risk of infection. The best protections against infection are abstinence, monogamy (sex with only one partner), and proper condom usage.

Symptoms of gonorrhea
Symptoms usually occur within two to 14 days after exposure.

Symptoms in men
Men may not develop noticeable symptoms for several weeks. Some men may never develop symptoms.

Typically, the infection begins to show symptoms a week after its transmission. The first noticeable symptom in men is often a burning or painful sensation during urination. As it progresses, other symptoms may include:

greater frequency or urgency of urination
a pus-like discharge (or drip) from the penis (white, yellow, beige, or greenish)
swelling or redness at the opening of the penis
swelling or pain in the testicles
a persistent sore throat

Symptoms in women
Many women don’t develop any overt symptoms of gonorrhea. When women do develop symptoms, they tend to be mild or similar to other infections, making them more difficult to identify. Gonorrhea infections can appear much like common vaginal yeast or bacterial infections.

Symptoms include:

discharge from the vagina (watery, creamy, or slightly green)
pain or burning sensation while urinating
the need to urinate more frequently
heavier periods or spotting
sore throat
pain while engaging in sexual intercourse
sharp pain in the lower abdomen
fever
Treatment of gonorrhea

Antibiotics eg Azithromycin

Prevention of gonorrhea
Accordind to healthline, The safest way to prevent gonorrhea or other STDs is through abstinence. If you do engage in sex, always use a condom. It’s important to be open with your sexual partners, get regular STD testing, and find out if they’ve been tested.

If your partner is showing signs of a possible infection, avoid any sexual contact with them.

You’re at a higher risk of contracting gonorrhea if you’ve already had it or any other STDs. You’re also at a higher risk if you have multiple sexual partners or a new partner.

Health / Nomophobia (fear Of Being Without Your Phone)- A Rising Trend In Today’s Society by Myhealthetic: 3:29pm On Jan 10, 2020
What is Nomophobia?

Nomophobia is derived from the word “NO-MObile-PHone-PHobia”. It is the fear of not having or being without a mobile phone or cell phone. 60-65% of the world’s population especially in the younger generation, have a feeling of anxiety which is as a result of the absence of a mobile phone. It is a psychological condition in which there is a fear of being detached from a mobile phone.

The mobile phone is without doubts a great source of pleasure but at the same time, a great distracting instrument/tool.

We cannot escape from the impact of the modern 21st Century technology and day by day new advancements. It is a disorder suffered by more than half of the world population.

A higher percentage of the youths today in one way or the other cannot do without operating their mobile phones either at home, in class, at work, events etc. Studies have revealed that there are various psychological factors which are involved when a person overuses a mobile phone.

Some of these psychological factors are- Causes:
• Low self-esteem; This is evidenced by the need to be in continuous contact and communication with others.
• Introvert personality; People who are naturally timid, shy and not outspoken.
• Excessive perfection; This is caused by the thoughts of losing social events and anxiety for not being present.
• Social Anxiety. ie, fear of missing out.

Symptoms:
•Boredom
• Loneliness
• Obsessive thoughts
• Anxiety
• Tachycardia

How Nomophobia is damaging our social life:

The absence of mobile phones will provide an even more benefit to you and people around you:
• During a date- Before the introduction of the internet, dates used to be fun and lively. Always room to talk about new things. But now, even on a date, people tend to look at their mobile phones while talking to the opposite sex which signifies no concentration.

•With family and friends- It’s nice to have a great time with friends and family and have memories instead of staring at your mobile phone every few second.

•At work- Simply put the phone on silent. It’s better to concentrate at work than to be distracted for just 1minute which is not a sign of a pro/professional.

Disadvantages of Nomophobia:
• Distraction (in class, while driving etc)
• Staring at your phone for long damages the eye.
• You’re at risk of loosing touch with your immediate society.
• You become addicted to mobile phone.
• Makes you lazy.
• Makes you unproductive.
• People prefer to “snap” other than help someone in a difficult and helpless situation ie accident victims, drowning, dying, falling, about to commit suicide etc.

Health / Family Planning- Having The Number Of Children You Want by Myhealthetic: 10:48am On Jan 08, 2020
Family planning- Having the number of children you want

Some mothers and fathers want a lot of children, especially in Africa. Where many children die young, parents feel they need a large number of children to help with work and to be sure some remain to take care of them when they grow old.

Many mothers and fathers have come to realize that to have a large family may bring serious problems. For example:

•With many children, it is harder to feed, clothe and educate them well.
• When a mother has child after child without space between, she often becomes weak. Her breasts produce less milk. Her babies are more likely to die. After many pregnancies, the danger is greater that she will die in childbirth, making the children motherless.
•If a man and woman have a lot of children, when the children grow up, there may not be enough land for all of them to grow the food their families need. Children may begin to starve and might end up dying of hunger. This is already happening in many areas.

Although, most, if not all, hunger in the world today could be prevented if land and wealth were distributed fairly, the growing number of people is part of the problem. If people keep having big families, a day will come when there is not enough land or food to go around- even if people learn to share.

The situation will get better only when people- as individuals, as families, and as communities- come to understand the many factors affecting their health and take action for the good of their children and future generations.
