The Independent National Electoral Commission has submitted its recommended adjustments to the 2019 election budget as requested by the National Assembly Joint Committee on INEC.

INEC submitted the fresh proposals to the committee via a written correspondence in Abuja , on Tuesday. Chairman of the joint committee , Suleiman Nazif , said this before the meeting went into a closed- door session which began at 2 : 18 pm and ended at about 3 : 34 pm.

The Nigeria Police Force has invited a former Minister of Aviation , Chief Femi Fani - Kayode , for alleged conspiracy, criminal and inciting publication.
In a letter dated August 20 , 2018 with Ref. No CR / 3000 / IGP. SEC / MU/ T . G/ ABJ Vol . 54 / 226 , the police asked the former minister to appear before SP Usman Garba latest by August 28 , 2018.
In the letter titled, ‘ Conspiracy, criminal defamation , inciting publication, injurious falsehood and conduct likely to cause breach of peace’, the police noted that the invitation was based purely on a fact- finding mission .
The letter , which was signed by Commissioner of Police in charge of the IG Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters , Habu Sani read , “This office is investigating the above mentioned case reported to the Inspector- General of Police in which your name featured .
“ In view of the above, you are requested to interview the undersigned through SP Usman Garba on 28 / 08 / 2018 by 10 . 00 hrs to shed light on the allegations raised.
“You are to, however , note that the invitation is purely for fact findings and your cooperation in this regard is highly solicited. Please. ”
Speaking on his invitation, however , Fani- Kayode said, “I am not in the least bit intimidated and I cannot be silenced. They would have to kill me first . I received the letter today without any details of the allegations or who the complainant is .

Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central, on Thursday paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina state.
Speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting with Buhari, Sani said he visited the president’s country home to pledge his support for his re-election bid.
The lawmaker said they spoke about the need for the party to be united.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association on Tuesday warned the President of Senate, Bukola Saraki , to resign his position immediately or be forced to do so .


The national coordinator of the association in Benue State , Alhaji Garus Gololo, gave the warning in an interview with our correspondent in Makurdi.

Gololo said Saraki had created numerous problems for the administration of President Muhammad Buhari , which he said had affected the economic and social growth of the nation .


“It is on this note that we are saying that Saraki ought not to be in office again as Senate President , more so, Saraki has failed to coordinate and organise the National Assembly to offer quality legislation that Nigerians need.
“Nigerians are in dire need of people that have the interest of the masses . Miyetti Allah is looking for a leader that would preside over the affairs of the Senate with ultimate respect for the executive and the judiciary, not someone like Senator Saraki that would always scheme to outdo the Presidency.


“We are now tired of Saraki’ s style of leadership at the National Assembly . Therefore , we are now warning him to honourably resign his position as president of the Senate or we will force him out ”, Gololo said, refusing , however , to explain how the association would remove the Senate president .


Reacting to the comment by Governor Ortom accusing a former Lagos State Commissioner of Police , Abubakar Tsav, of being an agent of the Miyetti Allah , Gololo said Tsav was not a member of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association or a Fulani man by tribe and couldn’ t have been an agent of the Miyetti Allah.

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki’ s statement on the 2023 presidential ambition of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress attracted diverse reactions on Tuesday.
Saraki had on Monday said Tinubu was supporting President Muhammadu Buhari ’s re- election with the hope of succeeding the President in 2023 .
The Senate president also said Tinubu told him he would support Buhari even if he was on a stretcher.
Saraki spoke in reaction to a statement on Sunday by Tinubu, alleging that the Senate president dumped the APC because of his presidential ambition and selfish quest for power .
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress , Mr Yekini Nabena , in an interview with one of our correspondents , indicated that it was premature to talk about 2023 presidency , adding that Tinubu’s presidential ambition had not been communicated to the party.
When asked to comment on Saraki ’s statement, Nabena said, “This (Tinubu’s ambition ) has not been communicated to the party , so I cannot comment on it. Besides , why should anybody be talking about 2023 when we are in 2018 ? Is anybody God ?”
Tinubu, Saraki ’ s conflict about personal interests – Afenifere
Commenting on the exchange of words between Saraki and Tinubu, the Yoruba socio- cultural association, Afenifere, expressed dismay over what it identified as the elevation of personal interests and ambitions over national good and development by politicians in the country.
It noted that the verbal exchanges between the APC leader , Bola Tinubu, and Senate President Bukola Saraki were all about their personal interests .

Afenifere spokesman , Yinka Odumakin , expressed disappointment that the two men were more interested in personal ambitions than in national good and progress.

President Muhammadu Buhari will lead other eminent Nigerians to inaugurate a $250 m brewery owned by International Breweries Plc next week Tuesday .

The Plant Manager , Mr . Tony Agah, disclosed this on Monday to journalists during a media tour of the brewery located at Km 3 Flowergate Industrial Scheme, Sagamu- Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State . He said the IB Plc is part of the AB InBev Group, the world ’ s largest brewer.
Agah said other eminent Nigerians expected at the event include Governor Ibikunle Amosun , Minister of Industry , Trade and Investment Okechukwu Enelamah ; and the global chief executive officer of AB InBev, Mr . Carlos Brito , among others.

The new brewery is the fourth plant to be established in the country, as the IB Plc has three others in Ilesa, Onitsha and Port Harcourt.
While Agah explained that the new plant is one of the Foreign Direct Investments which came into the country in the last two years , he added that the first phase of the development of the plant had been completed with over 300 Nigerians already employed .

He said many more indirect employment would also be created in due course.
He said, “Given the importance of this event , the President and Commander - in - Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria , Muhammadu Buhari , is expected to perform the inauguration of the facility.

Former Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed regrets for what he called “imposing” the Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, on the people of the state.

Apologising before a crowd at Ikot EkpenePlaza, Akpabio, who returned from his mother-in-law’s burial at Enugu on Sunday evening, said Emmanuel was the greatest mistake he made in a hurry, and asked to be forgiven.

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, on Sunday berated the executive , alleging that its late submission of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s budget for the 2019 elections showed its lack of foresight.


Saraki , in a statement by his Special Adviser on New Media , Olu Onemola, berated the President Muhammadu Buhari Media Organisation for accusing him of slowing down the approval of the budget .
The group had accused Saraki of postponing the resumption of the Senate in spite of Buhari ’s submission of INEC’ s budget .

But Onemola in the statement said the National Assembly was committed to the approval of INEC ’s budget for the 2019 polls.

Saraki’ s aide said in spite of the failure of the executive to submit the budget on time, the committees of the National Assembly had been working to ensure that due process was followed in approving the request.


He stated , “By now , the Nigerian people are aware that the executive branch could have submitted INEC ’s 2019 elections budget at the time it submitted the 2018 appropriation proposals last year .


“The executive had from January till June this year to submit the budget request. However , due to a perceived lack of foresight , display of usual tardiness or an attempt to ensure that due process would not be followed , this request was submitted only a few days before the statutory National Assembly annual recess .

Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new long-term contract with Leicester City that will keep him at the club until 2024.

Senators loyal to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki , have perfected a strategy to stop his impeachment and that of his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu , according to

Findings by SUNDAY PUNCH revealed that apart from keeping vigil at the National Assembly to prevent the All Progressives Congress senators from sitting , the Peoples Democratic Party members in the Senate have mapped out an arrangement to keep the red chamber save for Saraki until September 25 and beyond.
How Saraki , Dogara planned ‘ coup ’ to abort reconvening
Findings by SUNDAY PUNCH revealed that Saraki reached out to the Speaker of the House of Representatives , Yakubu Dogara, last Sunday night to suspend any form of reconvening last Tuesday, as earlier agreed by both presiding officers .
The sudden change of mind , according to some senators who spoke on condition of anonymity , was to save Saraki from impeachment because it was discovered that many of his loyalists had travelled to Saudi Arabia on pilgrimage .
A senator from the North - Central geopolitical zone said, “Our calculation was that the APC senators can never get two- thirds of the majority of the entire membership of the Senate to carry out any impeachment , but we had to be careful when they started arguing that the two- thirds could also be based on the numbers of senators at plenary.
“We were aware that many members of the House of Representatives got notice of resumption last Saturday , so both presiding officers met and agreed that the resumption should be postponed indefinitely . ”
Strategies adopted to extend reconvening
SUNDAY PUNCH investigations further revealed that Saraki and Dogara agreed that only members of the Committee on Electoral Matters in both chambers should be recalled to hold joint meetings with officials of the Independent National Electoral Committee between Wednesday and Friday last week .

The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress , Osun State chapter, Mr Jacob Adekomi, has said that the Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration has started paying full salaries to all categories of workers in the state.


The NLC chairman said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday .



Adekomi said local government workers and primary school teachers had started receiving payment alerts from their banks , adding that he had also received an alert of full salary for the month of July .
He said, “ The state government has started paying us full salaries. But we are waiting for the payment of arrears of the balance of modulated salaries. We have already given them a 21 - day ultimatum and we hope they will pay the arrears before the expiration of the ultimatum.



“Negotiation will soon commence and we are waiting for them to start paying us the arrears . But I can confirm that they have started paying us full salaries and I received the alert yesterday. ”

The building housing a radio station and music studios belonging to a musician , Yinka Ayefele , is on the verge of being demolished by the Oyo State Government for contravening physical planning laws of the state .

A demolition notice with reference number TF 20181308/ 002 pasted on the wall of the building on the Lagos bypass, after Challenge bus stop in Ibadan by a task force officer from the state governor ’s office , said that the structure should be removed in three days and that failure to do so would warrant government action to remove the structure.

As contained in the notice , the grace granted by the government expired on Wednesday so the order could be carried out on Thursday (today ).

The notice , which was addressed to the owner , Ayefele, read , “Having failed to comply with the earlier stop work/ quit / contravention notice(s) served on your development or as your structure is found to be structurally defective / poses danger or constitutes a nuisance to the occupier or the general public, you are hereby ordered to vacate the site and remove the structure thereon within three days, failure of which the government shall effect the removal and commence legal action against you in accordance with Section 43 of the law . ”

Our correspondent gathered that the notice was the second sent to the owner of the radio station , Fresh FM , in 10 years . The building, which has four studios for radio broadcasting and music production , is said to worth around N 800 m . It is also understood that the station has a staff strength of 150 .

A few days ago, acting President Yemi Osinbajo hit out at churches that preach only about prosperity and don’t talk about corruption.
Osinbajo had stated “Very rarely do you hear our preachers talk about corruption from their pulpits. If a nation is not righteous nothing will help it.”

Speaking in response to this, CAN President, Rev. Samuel Ayokunle, said that the acting President was well within his rights to speak about this. He did state, however, that churches do speak against corruption and that they aren’t all about prosperity.
He said: “Being a pastor, the acting president may know what we don’t know and he has a right to correct those whose teaching or preaching contradicts the scripture.


“What we know is that the church must speak against evil in the land, corruption inclusive. The church has been speaking against the perceived genocide in the country, insecurity of life and property, hypocrisy, nepotism, greediness, tribalism, favourism, treasury lootings, lopsided appointments, etc.


“These are all manifestation of corruption. Corruption goes beyond greed and diversion of public money into personal hands. Whether our leaders, politicians and civil servants are listening is another thing entirely.

EFCC slams aides to the President on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojodu for linking it to Saraki




The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has berated the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu , for accusing the EFCC of playing out a script written by Senate President Bukola Saraki .


Ojudu had in an article titled, ‘Fifth columnists in our recent history ’, accused Saraki of orchestrating the Department of State Services’ blockade of the National Assembly and the EFCC’s freezing of the Benue and Akwa Ibom states’ accounts last week .

He had said, “From the shenanigans at the Benue House of Assembly to the siege on National Assembly , the attack on judges home in the night, the so - called barricade of the Senate President’ s house, the laughable kidnap of Boy Dino and ‘ his 11 hours on a tree ’ , the freezing of the Benue and Akwa Ibom accounts all are scripted , produced and acted by Oloye (Saraki ) Productions . ”

However, the EFCC in a statement by its spokesman , Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said the freezing of the accounts were not scripted by Saraki but by the commission after months of painstaking investigations.
The anti - graft agency advised Ojudu and other politicians to do proper investigation before making allegations.


The statement read in part, “The attention of the EFCC has been drawn to a widely syndicated article by Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters entitled , ‘ Fifth columnists in our recent history ,’ wherein he portrayed the commission as a conscript in the devious plots by Senator Bukola Saraki to undermine the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari .

In the aftermath of the gale of defections that blew across the All Progressives Congress (APC ) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the two leading political parties in the country will today test their might and popularity in the senatorial and House of Representatives by -elections holding in Katsina , Bauchi and Kogi states.


Weekend gathered that there is tension in the two political parties at the national level over the by -elections to fill the vacant seats in the federal legislature .



Stakeholders who spoke to our correspondent from both camps said the two parties consider the polls crucial because it would determine how Nigerians view them after the gales of defection in both the APC and PDP.
In Bauchi, Senator Isa Misau caused a major upset for the APC few weeks ago when he joined 13 other Senators that defected from ruling party to the PDP , while another Senator from Kogi State , Senator Dino Malaye , was also among the 14 APC Senators that defected to.



In Katsina State , two brothers from the same parent, Kabir Babba Kaita of the PDP and his younger brother , Ahmad Babba Kaita of the APC , are the two major contenders who will slug it out in the senatorial bye -election for Katsina North district today

Senate president Bukola Saraki has replied Adams Oshiomhole who called for his resignation yesterday.
In his response which was released by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki said Oshiomole is behaving like a rain-beaten chicken.

Response to Adams Oshiomhole
1. It is rather surprising that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole is behaving like a rain-beaten chicken, crying all over the place about Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, as if the Senate President is the apparition haunting his life and the sinking ship that he captains.


2. Having decided not to join the pigs in rolling in the dirt; we would not like to be involved in any meaningless exchange with the demagogue now in charge of APC. However, because he claimed that he was reacting to the issues raised by the Senate President during his World Press Conference, we thought it necessary to give the APC chairman some attention.
Alas, we found that instead of addressing any issue raised by the Senate President, his press conference merely showcased his obsession and those of his sponsors with Saraki’s removal, which he did without any decorum befitting of his age or his awarded office. He brimmed with hate, hurled abuses, threw tantrums, told lies, huffed, puffed. In the end, he said nothing.


3. It is indeed amazing that the same Oshiomhole, who is now describing Saraki as a politician of no consequence was the same one who only a few months ago was crawling all over the place pleading for Saraki’s support to become chairman. We are sure that those who took him to Saraki several times to plead his case must now be thoroughly embarrassed by his reckless and uncouth manner.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Thursday inaugurated the rehabilitation of township roads in Oro, his home town in Kwara .


The project awarded by the Federal Ministry of Power , Works and Housing was initiated by the minister.Mohammed said the project is the dividend of democracy to his people and attestation to the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to infrastructural development and better life to Nigerians .“ We came this morning to inaugurate the rehabilitation of Oro township road .“When we say the contract had been awarded , some people were in doubt. We thank God that we are witnessing its inauguration today ,” he said.

The minister appealed to the people , particularly the youth in the community to give the contractor the chance the deliver the project on time.“We want to appeal to you that no one should exploit the contractor by asking for money before working,” he said.He also called on the contractor to ensure that the locals benefit from the project by engaging them as workforce .Mohammed said the competent local sub contractors should also be given priority for supply of working materials .

The Project Manager , Mr Niyi Afolabi, said the project starting from NITEL Junction road would involve drainages , construction of bridges and asphalting.

The officers prevented the legislators , who had convened an emergency session, from deliberating. But in an uncharacteristically swift response from the Presidency , the Acting President , Yemi Osinbajo , sacked the Director- General of the SSS , Lawal Daura. Rightly , Osinbajo described the unauthorised takeover of the National Assembly complex “ as a gross violation of constitutional order , rule of law and all acceptable notions of law and order . ”
The essence of constitutional government is to ensure that the powers of the state are kept in check so that personal liberty would not be infringed . The scene that played out at the Three Arms Zone on Tuesday is a throwback to full military dictatorship, which ceased to be in 1999 when the Fourth Republic came into being .


For masked SSS officers to have locked out legislators and NASS members of staff from their chambers and offices was reckless and unconscionable. Although some NASS members confronted the SSS operatives , they refused to do the right thing . These types of breaches occur only in banana republics, where the rule of law is in abeyance and government has become unpopular.


Though the Acting President claimed that the unlawful act was done without the knowledge of the Presidency , it didn’ t come out of the blue . Before now , cases of abuse of power by the Buhari government had become more prolific and severe . I

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday, August 7, sacked the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura.A statement by Laolu Akande, his spokesperson, said:“The acting president, Professor YemiOsinbajo (SAN), has directed the termination of the appointment of the director general, State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura, with immediate effect.

“Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.”Osinbajo also summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director-General of the Department of State Security, Mallam Lawan Daura at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the two security chiefs, who arrived Aso Rock at different times, were to update the acting president on security developments including the blockade of the National Assembly by security officials.
