PoliticsSowore Departs For USA After Five Years by Mynd44(mod): 7:20am On Mar 09, 2024
*The Struggle Continues: Sowore Departs for USA after Five Years*

Later today I will be returning to the US after almost five years of my unlawful, unjust and inhuman detention by the corrupt Nigerian political system since August 2019.

I was arrested, assaulted, tortured and detained for demanding that Nigerians deserved a nation that they can truly call their own. I was charged with treason - and after 5 years the APC government was forced to withdraw its trumped up charges against me.

If the government thought that keeping me detained, and later restricting my movement would break my spirit, and cause me to renounce my commitment to fighting for the downtrodden Nigerian people, they are mistaken.

In the last five years, I have been denied the ability to visit my family, missing out on precious moments with my darling wife and wonderful children. I lost my brother to gunmen on Nigeria’s roads. My mother’s health deteriorated, due to the emotional toll of the government’s unrelenting assault on my person. My associates have faced arrest, and some imprisonment.

I stand today to declare that I am unbowed. My commitment to Nigeria is unshakable. My resolve to continue to fight for the betterment of the Nigerian nation and to demand accountability from her leaders will never be compromised.

Everything we said five years ago about the need for a radical restructuring of the Nigerian nation and the need for a revolution in our approach to politics and governance has come to pass. Corruption remains high and Nigerians are worse off today than they were five years ago. Inflation is making it difficult for people to put food on the table. Nigeria’s currency has been devalued by almost 100%.

I am under no illusions about what the future holds. I commuted myself to the mission of helping to create a Nigeria that fulfills its promise and realizes its potential, over 30 years ago. I have suffered greatly for that commitment. My family, colleagues, and associates who have stood by me throughout this journey have endured great pain and privations as well.

For those who wonder what my next steps will be - I say this: I believe now, as I did over 30 years ago when I began this journey, that the vision of creating a just and egalitarian society must be established during my lifetime.

My trip today to reunite with my children and courageous and supportive wife is only for a short while. I will return to Nigeria to continue my struggle for the total liberation of our people from the shackles of the current corrupt, self serving political class. I will also be returning to face headlong, the remaining truckload of bogus criminal and civil cases that have been thrown at me since my detention in 2019.

Let me use this opportunity to thank my family, lawyers particularly Femi Falana SAN, colleagues, and fellow revolutionaries at home and abroad who have stood firmly by my side, against all odds.

Nigeria will be free. Nigerians will see a nation that is free of corruption, that has leaders whose only interest is in uplifting the people and creating an environment where our people can realize their potential.

I remain committed to this ideal. It is a commitment that I have dedicated my life to, and my resolve to stay the path and keep on with the fight remains strong!

I reckon you are overlooking the fact that Houthi is a terrorist group and they are not Yemen naval force. Bear that in mind before you try to make a point that they are in charge of the gulf of aden which you think is their water. I gave you an example using Boko Haram in Nigeria.

Your argument is flawed. I can see how you are trying to defend the Houthi attack on a commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden by comparing it to the Israel-Hamas war and the Russia-Ukraine war, but these are not the same situations.

First, the Houthi attack on the ship was not an act of self-defence or resistance. The ship was a Barbados-flagged bulk carrier carrying steel and it had nothing at all to do with Israel or the US, and it was sailing in international waters(Google is your buddy). I stated this earlier. Even if it were Yemen's water what right does Houthi,a terrorist group have to attack ships passing by? That should be Yemen's problem not Houthi!

Israel and Hamas have been in a long-standing conflict for decades. Hamas is another terrorist group that controls/controlled the Gaza Strip and rejects Israel's right to exist. It has fired thousands of rockets at Israel, targeting civilians and infrastructure. Israel has responded by targeting Hamas. How's that Israel's fault?

Russia and Ukraine, on the other hand, have been in a war since 2014, when Russia invaded and took Crimea from Ukraine and backed separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine. For one, Russia violated Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and yeah they faced global condemnation and sanctions for their actions.

I don't see how you can compare the Houthi attack on a commercial ship with the Israel-Hamas war or the Russia-Ukraine war. The Houthi attack was not justified by any moral or legal standard, and it cannot be seen as a valid form of resistance or justice.

I know where you are going with this and I have to burst your bubble, the Gulf of Aden is not a Yemen strait. It is a deepwater gulf of the Indian Ocean between Yemen, Djibouti, Somalia, and the Arabian Sea.

That ship was sailing in international waters, which means it had the right to pass through the Gulf of Aden without interference from anyone.

The Houthis do not have the right to attack the ship or any other vessel. The attack was in simple term a breach of international law. The Houthis are not a rights group fighting for the rights of Palestinians, as you claim, they are taking advantage of a situation. They are a rebel group that has been fighting against the internationally recognised government of Yemen with the support of Iran. Do you get it now?
The Gulf Of Aden IS NOT international waters.

This is a repeat of the 1958 invasion of Egypt by England and France for control of the Suez Cannal.

The Gulf of Aden is not open waters and falls in the territory of Somalia, Yemen and Djibouti.

When you understand this you understand the problem.

You got that wrong, the Houthis are legitimate as they claim, to them, they run the govt in Yemen.
If they run the govt and say to everyone, don't use our waters for your ship.
This matter is so simple. The Gulf Of Aden is not international waters. If they don't want those ships there in protest of Isreal, the ships should not be there.

Botragelad:
Ooh you are comparing Russia ban from FIFA to Houthis attacking commercial ships, correct?

And how does that make any point in this conversation?
It doesn't.

But when you have different rules for different people, people will seek justice outside the law and attempts to gaslight them will only be laughed off.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, there was global condemnation and sanctions and this was rightly done.

When Isreal invaded Gaza and Palestine what happened? Crickets.

When this injustice is allowed, people who want justice will seek it outside the law and it becomes a fuckfess. So yes, the Houthis are "terrorists" but can we also say they are a rights group fighting for the rights of Palestinians?

I can bet if this group were bombing ships in order to defend Ukraine, you wouldn't mind.

Again is the Gulf of Aden international waters? What was the ship and the Western horde doing there?

Sorry, but what does that have to do with HOUTHI being a terrorist group?
Is FIFA a terrorist group?
