It is gratifying to note in today’s text that when the Lord concluded His work here in the world and went to heaven, He did not take away His virtues of fellowship and visitation. He deposited them in great measure with His disciples. His followers walked in His footsteps, showing love to the brethren by abandoning their comfort zones to visit them in their abodes.

As Apostle Peter left Jerusalem to check up on the brethren, he pleaded Jesus’ name to heal a man who had been bedridden for eight years. The miracle brought “all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron...to the Lord.” This demonstrated the limitless power and blessings inherent in visiting one another as believers.

here is a popular Yoruba saying that translates, "He who is being watched does not look about!" This means that one needs total concentration when it really matters. In the field event of 100m, six athletes usually file on the marks. Each athlete, apart from having speed, skill and energy to compete, also needs total concentration to win. We always have the spectators either hailing, or throwing jibes and boos at relationship. Should the one leading the race allow fans he/she risks losing concentration to finishing on high! Even if the one coming last continues to receive boos, he can still bring out something of the competition, provided he does not listen to these distractive elements!

When a child of God is confronted with a challenge in life, all he or she needs to do is call out to the Lord in prayer. When Jesus was travelling in a ship with His disciples, a great storm blew up and the disciples were afraid. The Bible says “And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.” (Matthew 8:25).

The good thing about calling upon God in the time of trouble is that He is ever ready to rise to the occasion. The Bible further says “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:26).

Some Christians pretend that all is well, even in the presence of the Lord, whereas they may be having serious spiritual, health, material and even financial issues. In the case of the disciples however, they cried to the Lord for help; they told Him exactly how they felt about the storm. Jesus Christ responded to their cry and stilled the storm. I pray that as you cry to the Lord today, He will not just hear but also respond in Jesus’ name. The storm of your life will miraculously cease today, in Jesus’ name.

Some Hebrew midwives, ...Shiphrah and Puah (v.15) found themselves in Egypt, not through captivity, this time around, but by providence. Their great-grandfather, Jacob had migrated into the foreign land, Egypt, on discovering the miraculous presence and promotion of his own son, Joseph, there. How did you get to that foreign land-work, visit, education, or...? Do you see God's hand in this, so that you are always conscious of His presence and holy expectations?

These two midwives had a very risky command from the very wicked King (Pharaoh) of the godless land-killing children of their own people (vv.15-16). What a terrible situation they found themselves! If they obliged to the kings command both God and fellow Hebrews would have accused them of conspiracy with the enemies of God and His people. If they declined, they would be accused of treason. The latter was obviously riskier, humanly speaking. They had the choice of silently killing those sons, and getting compensation from the wicked King, but they wisely declined. Why? They feared God(vv.17-19).

Many people have been misled into taking wrong decisions with terrible consequences in their lives. It is either because they have sought solutions from wrong and self-serving sources or they are not fully persuaded of the stand they have taken over issues. Unfortunately, such actions do not just affect other people’s lives, but also mortgage their eternity, especially when propelled by pecuniary gains or as a response to external pressure or fear.

INTRODUCTION: The beatitudes describe the ideal disciple and his rewards, both present and future. Having discovered that the beatitudes are a series of eight blessings spoken by Jesus in Matthew 5, we shall do some exposition on verses 5 and 6 in this study.

Man who was created in God's image and likeness with glory should not have had any problem relating to, and with God whom he represents, and the image of God Whom he is. Also considering the intention of God for creating man (to be like Him, to represent, worship and serve Him), man shouldn't have problem in maintaining deep fellowship with Him. However, the reverse is the case. Man chose to align with the Devil, God's enemy. Friendship with the Devil haunted man down to the state Paul describes in the memory scripture. Paul wasn't talking to a particular set of people, but generally about the state of man. Even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge. "They" refers to man in the generic sense as they have chosen to depart from God's knowledge, just like Cain went out from the presence of the Lord (Gen. 4:16), and the people prior to the deluge were carrying desperately wicked hearts (Gen. 6:5). Man chose to drift away from his Creator with just a few, "the remnant," still maintaining cordial relationship with their Maker.

The Scriptures makes it clear that the path of the just is as the shining light that shines more and more unto a perfect day (Proverbs 4:18). This means, God does not want His children to be stagnant in life and destiny. Rather, His intention for our lives is for us to go from one level of glory to another. So, God’s perfect Will for His children is for them to experience greater glory in all areas of their lives.

Sometimes God sends natural disasters, like locusts, famine, earthquake, pestilence, tornado, etc., to punish His people for their sins. The solution to these is found in the Word of God. It is worse if God would allow the scarcity of His Word to deal with His people; not the scarcity of bread and water (cf. Exod 17:2ff; Ruth 1:1,2). Most people are afraid of physical death than they are of spiritual death, and so deliberately ignore the Word, caring not what becomes of their ungodly and lackadaisical attitudes towards the Word.

Those who ignore God's Word, now, whether as an instruction, plea, warning, or discipline will later look for, and find it not.

When Pentecostal Evangelist, T.L. Osborn travelled to India with his wife Daisy at the beginning of his missionary ministry, he was only 21 years. However, that mission to India was not fruitful. Their ministry lasted less than one year and they returned home without much success due to a critical family sickness and because he had no proof nor answers to the Indians who wanted to see the miraculous demonstration of God’s power to solve their problems. By the time he returned years later to India, multitudes turned to the Lord when the power of God moved in their midst.

From the text, the Roman centurion found a need for Jesus when his servant took ill. Christ was contacted through the Jewish elders, and soon the Messiah was at his house. The man’s faith in Christ’s ability to heal his servant was so firm that he believed speaking the word only was enough. Christ commended his faith and the servant was healed immediately.
