Education / JAMB Vs Varsities, Says Refund Students If Charge Was Above N2000 Or Get Sued. by NaijaGossipa: 9:15pm On Oct 08, 2017
The Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board, JAMB, on
Sunday, said it would partner with
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to
conduct public examination
through Computer Based Test, CBT,
for Nigerians abroad.
The examination board also said
universities that charged more
than N2,000 from applicants for its
post-UTME examination will be
made to refund the excess
payment.
JAMB’s Head of Public Relations,
Fabian Benjamin, made these
known in an interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in
Abuja.
Mr. Benjamin said that the
collaboration was to enhance the
conduct of Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination, UTME,
for foreign candidates in 2018.
He said 2017 UTME was conducted
for foreign candidates on
September 30 in Gambia, Saudi
Arabia, United Kingdom, Ghana,
Ivory Coast, Benin Republic,
Ethiopia, South Africa and
Cameroun.
According to him, although the
conduct of the examination was
not justifiable, in terms of
monetary value, there is need for
JAMB to collaborate, to promote
growth in the education sector.
“We are already promoting CBT in
line with international best
practices; we have taken it to
some countries in Africa, we need
to do more to encourage the
practice.
“We have even gone ahead to see
how we can put some countries
on the global map by conducting
our public exami....

Education / The State Of Post UTME In Nigeria Today by NaijaGossipa: 12:34pm On Oct 04, 2017
According to the Senate, the move has become necessary because the introduction of the post – UME examination has to a large extent failed to solve the problems associated with JAMB admissions; adding that the existence of Post-UTME has posed more challenges for the Nigeria educational system. These resolutions of the Senate Tuesday followed a motion by Senator Umaru l. Kurfi, APC, Katsina Central and entitled, “The Need to revisit the regulatory conflict between Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Universities in offering admission in Nigeria.” In his presentation of the motion, Senator Umaru l. Kurfi noted that since the Post-UME policy was introduced as a remedy to the decay in educational standard in higher institutions of learning, there has been public outcry of extortion from candidates despite the rigorous test they pass through during JAMB exams. He stressed that the integrity of the post - UME examination has become questionable as it seems the motive of the respective institutions is obviously to increase their income flows with it. Recall that the Minister of Education earlier this year re-introduced Post-UTME aptitude test which was scrapped last year and now the Senate is making another m continue reading: http://www.naijagossip.com.ng/2017/10/04/state-post-utme-nigeria-today/
Religion / Is Masturbation Lawful In Islam? by NaijaGossipa: 11:06pm On Oct 02, 2017
I received an anonymous text from a compatriot of
mine. He wrote to ask for my opinion on
masturbation. He wanted to know whether
masturbation is a grievous sin that is punishable
by the Almighty on the day resurrection. Just
before I sat down beside my computer to do this
piece, I thought I needed a professional input. I
then put a call across to a medic friend and
brother of mine. I asked him: ‘Brother! What is the
medical position on masturbation?” He responded:
“You know what Prof! I do not know of any
negative medical implication that could result from
indulgence in masturbation. What I do know
however from interactions with those who practice
it, is that masturbation does not guarantee
maximum sexual satisfaction. Those who practice
it usually experience hallucination. Instead of the
act providing sexual succour and gratification it
only usually makes the desire for sex stronger...”
In other words, when the text message to me
asking about the position of Islam on masturbation,
I resisted the urge to send a reply to him the
moment the message came my way. I thought I
needed to widen the geography of the enquiry
further to include other prohibitions that Muslims
are aware of and which are recipes for healthy life
and living. I therefore sought that medical opinion
on masturbation not in anticipation of a response
that would give the practice a ‘clean bill of health’.
Rather, I did that with the intention to argue that
hardly is there a prohibition in Islam that reason or
medical practice would contradict. For example, a
thousand four hundred and thirty nine years ago,
Islam forbade the consumption of alcoholic drinks
and beverages. I do not know, as at today, of a
medical opinion which says alcoholism is good for
your body. “Do not go near fornication” so says the
Quran (17:32); tell me of a culture or civilization
that says illicit sexual pra

Foreign Affairs / Cameroon Independence Protests Result In Deaths by NaijaGossipa: 10:26pm On Oct 02, 2017
Soldiers in Cameroon shot dead at least eight
people during independence protests in the
English-speaking parts of the country.
Rallies were held on the 56th anniversary of the
incorporation of the regions into Cameroon.
The mayor of the town of Kumbo said that five of
the dead were prisoners shot after a jail caught
fire.
Activists had called for the release of prisoners
who had been arrested in a series of protests over
the last year.
The divisions in the central African state date back
to the post-colonial settlement.
Cameroon was colonised by Germany and then
split into British and French areas after World War
One.
The country was unified in 1961 - but English-
speakers accuse the Francophone majority of
discrimination.
The mayor of Kumbo, Donatus Njong Fonyuy, told
the BBC the flag of a secessionist movement had
been put up in symbolic places in the town.
There were several other demonstrations in other

Education / No Waec Result, No Admission- JAMB Boss. by NaijaGossipa: 5:28pm On Sep 27, 2017
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it would demand the records of ordinary and advanced level results of candidates recommended by tertiary institutions before offering them admission. The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated this yesterday during this year’s meeting on admissions exercise for the Innovative Enterprise Institutions in Abuja. Oloyede insisted that institutions must maintain the standard set by the board beginning from this year’s admission. He said: “From this year now we are demanding records of the O levels of the candidates you are admitting and that is for the first time. “When you recommend a person for admission we want to see what qualification does he or she possess not just telling me that he or she scored 300 in UTME. What of the real qualification? “It used to be left to the discretion of the institutions. Politics / Igbo Don’t Deserve What They Are Demanding From Buhari – Idahosa by NaijaGossipa: 11:55am On Sep 24, 2017
Hon. Charles Idahosa was Special Adviser to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State. He is one man who has seen it all in the politics of the state and currently that of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Political Bulldozer, as he is fondly called, clocked 64 last Thursday. To mark the occasion, he spoke with Sunday Vanguard on some issues of national importance. Excerpts: How do you feel at 64 It has been great. I thank God for His mercies. For one to clock 64 in a third world country like this is a big achievement when you consider our life expectancy. God has been very nice to me. It has been a very long political journey and I am grateful to God to have been able to mark 64 and I am looking forward to 65 and God willing 70. What do you make of the IPOB threat? The truth of the matter is that Nigeria is like a theatre of the absurd. I said a few months ago that corruption will fight back. And what are you are seeing today? Is corruption not fighting back? All the agitations here and there, they are being stage managed to distract the APC federal government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, from getting to where it wants Nigeria to be. The campaign programme of the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari was to clear the mess left behind by the former administration. And, of course, the mone..... continue reading via link below: www.naijagossip.com.ng/2017/09/24/igbos-dont-deserve-demanding-buhari-idahosa/
Education / Summary Of JAMB CAPS Sensitization Programme And Key Points To Note by NaijaGossipa: 10:40pm On Sep 23, 2017
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) has revealed in the just concluded
sensitization programme on CAPS that apart from
candidate's JAMB cut-off mark, there are other
factors that determines whether a candidates gets
admission.
These criteria comprise O'level result and other
admission criteria the school may put in place.
Oloyede said that scoring higher than the minimum
cut-off marks did not guarantee admission but
made candidates eligible for admission
consideration.
Oloyede mentioned that the cut-off mark by JAMB
is only a threshold below which no institution can
admit candidates.
Institutions have the right to determine their own
general cut-off marks and departmental cut-off
marks. However these cut-off marks must not be
below the JAMB's minimum cut-off marks.
Explaining the responsibility of JAMB, Prof.
Oloyede said "JAMB is not an examination body
rather it is a ranking body. If there are enough
spaces in the tertiary institutions there may not be
need for UTME."

Politics / We Must Guard Against Separating Nigeria Into Small Pieces, Tinubu Warns by NaijaGossipa: 10:23pm On Sep 23, 2017
AMID IPOB CRISIS…
* ‘It is better to restructure correct imbalance’
“Being more pragmatic, separating the nation
into small pieces resolves nothing and creates
additional problems”.
With these words, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu,
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), Saturday, warned against any attempt to
spilt Nigeria.
Tinubu noted that gargantuan challenges were
facing the country but explained that they were
not enough to call for the dismantling of the
federation at a time some parts of the world
were taking advantage of integration.
Whereas he did not make direct reference to the
secessionist agitation by the now proscribed Igbo
group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), he
said many of those who cry separation do so
because their personal ambitions will be better
served as they believe they will have greater
chance at political power under a different
arrangement.
The APC leader, however, said the cry for
separation had gained traction among average
people due to the chronic failure of government
to meet basic aspirations.
Tinubu spoke as Principal Guest of Honour/
Keynote Speaker at the 2017 Annual Dinner of
the King’s College Old Boys’ Association
(KCOBA) at King’s College, Lagos.
His speech entitled, A NEW NIGERIA OR A
BETTER ONE:THE FITTING TOOLS OF A GREAT
REPAIR
“In one way or another, we all have felt the sting
of man’s capacity to wrong his fellow man. But
we are also endowed with the God-given spirit to
overcome adversity and to make of old enemies,
new allies and even brothers. I stand before you
as a faithful believer in sentiments such as
these”, the former governor of Lagos started his
address to the King’s College Old Boys.
He continued: “Collectively and individually you
have contributed mightily to this nation. If there
were more people imbued with the values of
King’s College, Nigeria would be a better place.
We must clearly articulate our objectives. That
which we cannot think clearly, will not be
attained despite the magnitude of our exertions
and expenditure to achieve it. One cannot be
assured that an architect’s fine design will result
in a fine building. Much can go awry during the
process of transforming idea into brick and
mortar.
“However, we can be certain that a masterful
building is never the result of flawed design.
In this vein, I dabble not so much in the search
for a new Nigeria. I am equally not enthused
about the flaws of old Nigeria. What I seek is a
better Nigeria.
“I care not whether something is old or new but
whether it shall make us better. Not all change is
good. Not every new thing shall be kind to us”.
Saying Nigeria must change but some of the
changes we need cannot be bought at the store
of the new, Tinubu said, “Many things we need
are shelved in the warehouse of the old. Just as
we must learn new things on

Politics / How To Achieve Biafra –ejikeme by NaijaGossipa: 11:59pm On Sep 21, 2017
Journalist and popular Onitsha preacher, Theo Ejikeme, blames some of the challenges confronting Ndigbo on the failure of religious organisations particularly churches in the region, to live up to their billings in drawing the attention of God to the plight of the people. He also speakes on how the Igbo could achieve their dream of Biafra. Some say Igbo need Biafra as panacea to the challenges facing them. Others are of the opinion that restructuring of Nigeria is the ultimate for them. What’s your take? I prefer Biafra because that will bring the best out of the Igbo man. Restructuring Nigeria cannot bring the best out the Igbo man. I like challenges. The birth of Biafra corresponds to the cause of globalisation that God is evolving. In Nigeria, we have all become lazy because we think lazy. Nobody is thinking of how Nigeria can grow and be measured with the developed world. Everybody wants President Muhammadu Buhari to do magic. But Buhari is not a magician. The magic to change Nigeria lies on us, ...... continue reading via link below: www.naijagossip.com.ng/2017/09/21/achieve-biafra-ejikeme/
Politics / Kanu, IPOB Ignorant Of Nigeria’s Unity – Lai Mohammed. by NaijaGossipa: 8:33pm On Sep 20, 2017
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is
ignorant of the depth of unity in the diversity of
Nigeria, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the minister of
information and culture said today in his latest
deconstruction of the group.
Mohammed stated this in Abuja when he featured
on “Embelembe” a phone-in radio programme on
101.1 Human Rights Radio.
The Minister faulted the group over hate and
divisive speeches by its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, the
violent attack of the military and extortion of
innocent Nigerian at illegal road blocks.
Giving instances, the Minister said that the call by
Kanu on the Igbo “not to attend any Church where
the pastor is a Yoruba man” is premised on
ignorance on the diversity of the country.
Mohammed said that the Mountain of Fire
Ministry established by an Igbo, has a Football
Club owned by a Yoruba, with a coach from Igbo
extraction and players across all the regions and
tribes of the country.
He stressed that Nigerians are so interwoven and
united and a call for violent division would not
succeed.
Mohammed noted that the Federal government
was not averse to agitation from any quarter
provided it is carried out in a manner that would
not result into violence and war.
He commended the military, the state governors
particularly from the East and the North, the
traditional rulers and religious leaders for their
timely intervention to nip the crises started by
IPOB’s in the bud.

Politics / Anambra Police To Enforce Ban On IPOB Activities by NaijaGossipa: 8:40pm On Sep 18, 2017
[justify]The Anambra Police Command says it has taken
steps to enforce the ban on all activities of the
Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba
Umar, said this while addressing newsmen in
Awka on Tuesday.
Umar warned that any person or persons
involved in the activities of the proscribed group
would be arrested and charged to court.
He defined terrorism as the unlawful use of force
and violence against persons or property to
intimidate, coerce a government, the civilian
population or any segment in order to seriously
destabilize or destroy the fundamental political,
constitutional, economic or social structure of a
country.
“The Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2013 (As
Amended) provides minimum punishment of 20
years and maximum of death sentence
depending on the offence.
“Meanwhile, Section 37 Sub-section (1) Criminal
Code Act, Cap 77 provides that any person who
wages war against the state in order to
intimidate or coerce the President or State
Governor is guilty of treason and is liable to be,
on conviction, sentenced to Death.
“Therefore, I enjoin the general public to know
that participating in the activities of this group is
illegal and would amount to treasonable felony,”
the police boss said.

Education / JAMB Issues 20 New Admission Guidelines To Its Candidates. by NaijaGossipa: 2:24pm On Sep 18, 2017
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has provided the Step-by-Step Process Flow of the Admission Exercise for the education and information of general public and the stakeholders, particularly the Candidates. (Candidates should note, in particular, steps 8, 16 and 18 that require their Actions and Decisions) The admission process flow is as stated below; 1. After successful completion of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and release of results, lists of Candidates were forwarded to their First Choice Institutions 2. JAMB thereafter requested all Institutions to use the Lists to determine their respective Cut off Marks and forward same to JAMB ahead of the Policy Meeting and programme (course). 3. JAMB received and collated Individual Institution and programme (course)Cut Off Marks as determined by their respective Senate / Academic Board 4. Three (3) Representatives of Institutions- (Vice Chancellors / Registrars / Provosts), Registrars and Admissions Desk Officers were trained on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) 5. Policy Meeting was held with Heads of Tertiary Institution and Regulators to determine, among others, the General Cut Off Marks for categories of institutions, based on earlier submissions of individual Cut Off marks by the Institutions. At the meeting, which was held in Abuja on Tuesday, 22 August, 2017, the institutions decided that the lowest submissions from Institutions would also be Minimum Cut off Marks and these were 120 (for Universities) and 100 (Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Education). It was further agreed that the Cut Off Marks as determined by each Institution’s Senate / Academic Board and submitted would be maintained and applicable for Admission to the Institution. 6. Based on requests at the Policy Meeting, JAMB requires each Institution to reconfirm its Cut Off Marks and Sets the Cut Off Mark and other Institution specific parameters such as other Admissions Criteria (e.g. Post UTME Screening) and carrying capacity on CAPS.This is on going. 7. Institutions download (from CAPS) details of Candidates that meet the Institution’s and programme’s Cut Off Mark and had selected them as First Choice Institutions. JAMB additionally provides softcopy of the same information on CDs to Institutions 8. Awaiting Results Candidates upload their results to JAMB Portal 9. Institutions may conduct Post UTME Screenings for downloaded candidates 10. Results of Post UTME where applicable are uploaded to CAPS to obtain aggregate scores for the candidates 11. CAPS ranks and suggests candidates that meet the Institution’s Admissions Criteria as configured on the system by the Institution. 12. The Admissions Desk Officer of the Institution reviews the List of the Suggested Candidates and makes the decision as to which candidates to select for further processing. The Admissions Desk Officer generates a List of Proposed Candidates for review and approval of the Head of the Institution 13. The Head of the Institution reviews the List of Proposed Candidates as appropriates and push the List of Recommended Candidates to JAMB 14.
