Buhari fighting corruption the Nigerian style!
Customs want to be bribed, and everything other thing you are saying is irrelevant. Their oga at the top is probably waiting for his own share, so is Buhari who is going to pretend not to know what's going on.
There's no way the military officer turned n overnight custom boss doesn't know what is going on, so does Buhari who appointed him into the position to enrich himself.

Imagine how many other businesses don't want to go through this? The result is lack of opportunity for the average citizen.

No doubt Buhari's law enforcement are biased against southerners, and Igbos in particular. That's why they're not effective as law enforcement agencies, because nobody should be above the law, no, not corrupt Buhari and his more corrupt crew!
Abba Kyari is still here enjoying the privilege of being Fulani, immigration officials who stole from a 14 year old child at the airport have their ID nicely covered by the powers from above. Can you imagine if they are Igbos, or other southerners?
Politics / Re: Nigerians' Mentality Is Our No 1 Problem, NOT 'Our Leaders'. by naijaking1: 4:40am On Mar 10, 2022
Reflect7:

I think the closest we came to having such a leader was Gen. Murtala Ramat Muhammed.

The same day this man came to power, corruption and mismanagement literally ended in Nigeria.

That is how uncompromising he was.

But he was assassinated after 7 months in power, reportedly at the instigation of the CIA.

If we are to have such a leader again, he would need to be given ultra-maximum personal security.

Murtala Mohammed, Buhari, Abacha!
There's only so far a mediocre education, ethnic bias, religious favoritism can take a modern leader these days.
The Turkish model, Othman Dan Fodio replica in the north is not likely to produce a modern leader in Nigeria today.

Who is afraid of calling these people failed leaders?
Leadership is an art, a craft better learned, not inherited by birth or tribal origin---that's what our president is probably learning after 7 years of wasted opportunity to lift Nigeria up.
Politics / Re: Nigerians' Mentality Is Our No 1 Problem, NOT 'Our Leaders'. by naijaking1: 9:27pm On Mar 09, 2022
Reflect7:

The Chinese did something similar in the last century. In a country reeling with corruption, poverty, and underdevelopment, they introduced Confucian principles in nursery/primary/secondary schools.

Confucius of course was the great Chinese philosopher of 500 BC who set out principles for living, which relate to frugality, wisdom, self-sufficiency, honesty, patriotism, etc. Most Chinese adults of today grew up imbibing Confucian principles. So it can work in Nigeria.

The problem is how do you reach consensus in a democratic setting on how to do it?

Who do we choose to be our 'Confucius'?

Our Ghandi?

Our Mandela?

Will he be acceptable to all regions and religions of the country?

Or perhaps we can create a new thought paradigm without an inspirational personality?

Historically, these attempts at 'social engineering' seem to succeed only under repressive, authoritarian rule.

After counting a few exceptional leaders who made a difference in other countries, you still think that Nigerian's problems are not related to lack of quality leadership?

From Confucius to Ghenjis Khan, to Alexander the great, George Washington, to Winston Churchill, to Ghandi, to Mandela: Nigeria has never been blessed with such a visionary leader.
The surprise is why Nigeria is not even worse, despite the machinations against her.
Instead of visionary leaders, we have sectional and tribal leaders who were turned against each other and against their own long run interest by the colonizing power.

Understanding this conudrum is essential for profering solutions on what ails our nation.

Also, when a leader who understands the trap emerges, our chances of getting a Mandela also increases.

Op, there's this course called sociology. Go read the first chapter of any standard sociology text, and you will understand that Nigerians, Africans, and in fact every human being (some animals, too) have the same basic instinct, whether they are in Nigeria, Canada, India, or even US.
The only difference between Nigerians and others is that Nigerians have been subjected to a series of bad leadership, from generation to generation that they now think there's something genetically wrong with them. People like you lacking basic knowledge of human behavior make things worse by muddying the water.
A good example is cultural accutration of newly arriving Nigerians in the US, here it takes them well over 3-5 years to learn to wait for their turns at the bank, post office, traffic etc, because they, like people in Nigeria are afraid that it will never become their turn. In Nigeria it may never become your turn, because the leaders set it up that way. US is not perfect, but over hundreds of years, they have evolved a leadership that almost guaranteed that it certainly be your turn one day.

On the average, the Nigerians are much better than Americans, but the leadership in America is better, while leadership in Nigeria has been said to be engineered for failure.
In any collection of animals, even elephants, lions, and whales, leadership is everything. More so in people, Nigerians included.

Politics / Re: The Emir Of Kano Has A Good Case Against Air Peace But by naijaking1: 1:08pm On Feb 26, 2022
This is an opportunity for the government to better regulate and improve airline services in Nigeria, not just to massage the emir's ego.
Obviously, the bad transfer policy of the airlines was not made overnight to disrespect the emir, the emir simply had the first hand experience of what ordinary Nigerians go through everyday. This is an opportunity for NCAA to step in and correct the policy.

The emir calling on Kano citizens to punish the airline is wrong, and has no place in modern times. Calling the CEO Onyema out repeatedly is just a dog whistle for tribal attack on Igbos as usual. If you can call Onyema by 5:20am to demand special consideration, because his workers disrespected you, then you should also call Dangote anytime his truck drivers caused an accident or killed someone on the roads

Also, what will it look like if the Ooni if Ife, Obi of Onitsha, or Oba of Benin mobilize their citizens against Dangote trucks?

The emir's action here's wrong, petty, and not worthy of his office.

Nobody should be confused by your veiled appeal to the welfare of airline passengers in Nigeria.
You're fully in support of the nepotism of the emir in this instance-- his people are in charge of NCAA, so he thinks that he can retaliate against Onyema for not granting his personal request for favors.
Airline passengers file grievances about their experience all the time, but this is high handed, tribalistic, and ethically motivated attempt to reap where he didn't sow. He called his cousin in NCAA, next he will call Buhari!

Imagine for a minute that you dealing with any of the international airlines, Lufthansa, KLM, or Delta.

"Yes, is this Mr. Ed Bastian, CEO Oof Delta?.
Ed: yes, how can I help you?
Emir: I am emir of Kano, and the Delta airline crew refused to delay the flight for just 30 minutes so that my 10 man strong entourage can get to our destination on time.
Ed: Are you kidding me?
Emir: No, you must punish them, and make them wait for me, I am royalty, you know, a blue blood, a sacred cow!
Ed: Definitely not Mr. Emir, we don't do that here at Delta.
Emir: I will write NCAA so that you will be punished for disrespecting me."

Imagine this conversation, and if you can't imagine it on Delta airlines, why apply it to Peace Airways?

Like the Indians would say: The sacred cows make the juiciest hamburgers. Nigerians need to start making hamburgers out of their sacred cows, that's the only need we have of them, not retard our progress as a nation.

Say no to sacred cows, get rid of nepotism.
