Nairaland / General / SORROW TO JOY: Woman Delivers Triplets Day Murdered Son Was Buried - Thenews.ng by NaijNewsToday: 9:04am On Oct 10, 2015
October has in recent times been a month of sorrow, pains, anguish, and also a month of bundle of joy; joy unspeakable for the Obioma Ogukwe family of Ufuma in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

On October 15, 2013, the first son of the family, Austin, was murdered at Ideal College, Ghana. On the night of October 2, 2015, preceding the day of his burial, Austin’s mother, Augustina, was delivered of triplets, all males.

At the burial ceremony of Austin at Ufuma, when the news of the birth of a triplets was broken, mourning turned to jubilation, dancing, celebration and revelry.

The Ogukwes, who felt that the world was collapsing on them, are now singing a new song of praise to God.

Mr. Obioma Ogukwe is the General Manger, Finance, The Sun Publishing Limited, while his wife, Augusta, is manager with AIICO insurance and also into fashion business.

Narrating her experience with Saturday Sun, Augustina said she was overwhelmed with joy.

According to her, Austin was her first child; a boy they loved so much, and was sent to Ideal College in Ghana, and in less than 12 days, he was murdered there.

This, she said, led them to different authorities, including the National Assembly and believing that something would come out of it, but for almost two years, even to retrieve the corpse was very hard because of the amount of money she said they were asked to pay, which they couldn’t afford.

“I cried myself to death; something was missing in my life; even Austin’s siblings couldn’t be comforted. I thought the word had come to an end.

Few weeks ago, God used the Managing Director of The Sun Ghana, Mr. Shola Osunkeye to facilitate the retrieval of my son’s corpse and he was laid to rest last Saturday. I couldn’t travel for the burial because I was so heavy, it was my husband who went for the burial in our village, Ufuma in Orumba North, Anambra State.”

Mrs Ogukwe said that her becoming pregnant was a miracle, noting that, when Austin was murdered, many pastors consoled and told her that God was going to replace in hundred folds what has been lost, which, she said, she doubted.

She said: “It was when I travelled to the United States with my husband that I discovered that I was pregnant and I couldn’t believe it.

I was supposed to deliver the babies in the US, but towards the due date, as I was about entering my car, a motorcycle hit me and broke my leg, so I couldn’t travel again.

“Penultimate Friday, I wasn’t feeling comfortable and it was a day before Austin’s burial, so my husband dropped me off at the hospital, before he travelled and in the midnight, I was delivered of triplets, all males. The first came, they said the second was coming, and the third came.

To God be the glory, we are happy and full of joy again.”

On why she didn’t know through scan that she was carrying triplets, she said she went for scan and it revealed twins, but they were not sure of the third one, “ but we were believing God’s will to be done in our lives.”

According to her, she had five children, and with the death of Austin, they remained four and now there are seven – four males and three females.

Austin, she said, was her first experience in life as a mother, noting that she married at a very tender age, and so, he was more or less like her mate and they were very close, and grew together.

Before his death, Austin, she said, was as tall as his dad, and they had already started calling him engineer, because he was already fixing many technical problems at home.

“I was becoming insane; I could neither sleep nor eat. I was seeing him every now and then and I thought that the world was collapsing on me because this was a boy we sent to school and even gave them instruction that he was just there to prepare for exams and not to be involved in other activities.

“They just called casually to tell us that our son was dead. It was a rude shock. Moreover, in a family of nine and about 40 grandchildren, we have not had such experience, he was the first to die.

“It was heavy on me that I asked God what my sins were that I should deserve that. Each time I sat with the other children, I felt something was missing. It even affected one of the children that he started acting strangely that we had to send him to a school where they were counselling and rehabilitating him to put Austin’s death behind him. It was really very difficult.”

She pointed that the failure of Nigerian authorities to act in the case of Austin led to such other tragedies to Nigerian students in foreign countries – Dubai, London, etc.

She noted that since Nigeria kept quite and Ghana got away with it, other countries followed suit.

When it happened, they met with many people but at the end of the day, she said it was all disappointments, and thought that God has left them and that it was all over.

“I was never really myself again, but today, the story is different, Augustina said.

Mrs. Ogukwe said this development has taught her a big lesson. The first is, never to give up, and secondly to realise that God is not man, you might be thinking in one direction but at the appointed time you don’t know what God has in store for you. Focus on God and in His time he would put a smile on your face.

“My kids were saying since Austin was no more, we needed three more. I would just dismiss them because they are kids, they don’t know anything.

I was asking God even if it were twins, but I wasn’t expecting triplets.”

Her message is for people to look up to God, the Author and Finisher of their faith; to believe and get closer to Him.

“Again, my husband was always there for me. When he came in from Ghana, he told me, ‘Mummy, stop crying, Austin would come back’. That was what also helped to keep me going. That statement was always ringing in my ears, that my husband said Austin would come back, he was not dead, and when he comes back, we would still name him Austin. That encouraging statement kept me going.

Assuming he wasn’t there to console me and give me that hope and made me believe that Austin would still come back, it would have been worse for me.”

Her husband had consoled her that another Austin was coming, and now it is triplets, would they be named, Austin 1, Austin 2, Austin 3? She answered: “Maybe, we share his names. He was also called Ebuka, and Chukweneme.”

Raising triplets is not easy, asked if they will solicit public support, Mrs Ogukwe said she had read stories of parents of triplets soliciting public support to raise the babies, and even some husbands running away when their wives gave birth to triplets.

These ones, she said are in the right place, and to the glory of God, we are capable of raising them.

“The babies arrived on the night breaking into the day Austin was to be interred, to announce that Austin was back.

Even in the village where the atmosphere was gloom, and people were mourning as Austin was to be interred, the announcement of the birth of triplets threw the mourning crowd into jubilation, dancing and celebration.

Augustina said for sure, she blasphemed God, and even at a time she didn’t want to go to church again because she questioned the reason for praising God when He was there and her son was murdered.

“Yes, I thought I was so closed to Him, and when this happened, I found it difficult to comprehend why He should allow someone to murder my son.

“But when I realised that without God, it is death, I started going closer again and asking for His forgiveness because He knew why such a thing happened in the first place.

“My last baby, the fifth, is close to nine years. So, I had stopped and wasn’t even ready for any child. We had closed everything about child bearing. Though we were not expecting another child, we left it to God that if it was His will to replace Austin, He should go ahead.

Even the fifth child that is getting to nine, I named her Angel, because when I was told that I was pregnant, I said it was not possible that it must be an Angel that came visiting. After her, I tried to close the chapter but God said it was not over.

Also speaking with her husband, Obioma, who couldn’t contain his joy, told Saturday Sun that he was very happy because he was very depressed when they lost Austin.

Highlighting on the death of Austin, he said, when they called to tell them that he was dead, “we enquired about the cause of death, the Ghanaian authority said it was a case of drowning. But, we asked why wounds all over his body and the photograph taken by the police showed that he was foaming in the mouth. Again, why he drowned and the body found on the shore just three hours after they said they were looking for him. I didn’t believe it was a case of drowning. I believe there was a foul play, but the Ghanaian police felt otherwise. I disputed the autopsy report, since that time, it became an issue until the Nigerian Embassy asked me to withdraw all the suits so that it would pave way for the Ghanaian authority to release the corpse.”

He expressed the family’s gratitude to Mr. Shola Osunkeye, MD, The Sun Ghana, the Nigerian Ambassador in Ghana and Femi Falana SAN, and also Hon Abike Dabiri, who also visited Ghana with the House Committee on Diaspora on this matter.

“We thank God that eventually we got the body of Austin and buried him on October 3. While we were mourning in the village, my wife announced to me that we have been blessed with three boys. My joy knew no bounds. Right from that moment, I stopped mourning, and in the village we were caught up with jubilation and I returned to Lagos to see the babies and they were hale and hearty with my wife. All of them are in good health.

“Very soon, they would return to our house and I’m making arrangement for people that can assist us in taking care of them. With the exigency of my work, it will be hard for me to have a leave of absence at this time.”

Mr. Ogukwe admonished people not to mourn as if they have no hope and should in everything give thanks to God because He knows why certain things happen.

“He took one and blessed us with three. It is only God that can do it and not man. We should look up to God if He has not finished with you, you should not be disappointed, because He would always have you to laugh last.”

Politics / Fulani Herdsmen Return To Falae’s Farm, Destroy Crops - Thenews.ng by NaijNewsToday: 5:46am On Oct 08, 2015
Fulani herdsmen have reportedly invaded the farmland belonging to the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae.

They allegedly destroyed his crops at Ilado in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The farm manager, Bruno Akhigbodemen, who conducted reporters round the farmland, said over one kilometre plantation of maize was destroyed during the invasion last Sunday.

Akhigbodemen said the herdsmen arrived at 2am.

He said the workers’ efforts to prevent the destruction of the farmland were rebuffed as they were threatened by the herdsmen.

The farm manager said the former Finance minister reported the latest destruction to the police.

Some detectives from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were immediately deployed to the farm on Monday.

They reportedly combed neighbouring villages for the suspects but were unable to make any arrest.

It was gathered that the police have invited leaders of the herdsmen, who stood as sureties for those who were arrested and released during the last invasion when over N500, 000 worth of farm products were destroyed.

Akhigbodemen described the latest destruction as devastating. He appealed to the government and the security operatives to act decisively on the matter.

Falae could not be reached for comments.

Police spokesman Olufemi Joseph said he had not been adequately briefed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

Nairaland / General / Jealous Gay Lovers In A Bloody Fight In Benin by NaijNewsToday: 1:59pm On Oct 01, 2015
A party organized by gay lovers turned violent in Benin City last Tuesday as one of the organizers caught his man with another of their friends in uncommon mood.
Teenage-gay-cult-discovered-in-Delta-state-bella-naijaThis came as two young men were arrested by policemen of “B” Division Police Station, Warri, Delta State, for allegedly indulging in homosexuality, a crime against the Nigerian State.
The party in Benin was organized in a hotel located around Oben, off Sapele Road and the gay lovers were said to have deceived residents of the area by dressing like women in order not to attract their attention.

It was gathered that trouble started when one of the jealous lovers, identified as Ricky, caught his ‘paramay’ with one of the guests and disagreement over the issue resulted in a bloody fight.

A source told TheNews.ng that they fought with bottles and plastic chairs in the hotel room, which attracted residents who did not know they were holding a gay party.

Some of the guests had their heads broken and clothes torn.

A source in the neighbourhood told TheNews.ng: “ We have been suspecting the management of this hotel for some time now because the last time, some girls suspected to be lesbians held a party here, we were shocked that no single male was in attendance.

“But today, I wanted to go and buy a drink at the hotel when a young man walked up to me at the gate and said to me that his people have taken over the place.

‘’I was shocked to notice that he was putting on tight leggings and wearing red lip stick and wig, so I left the place immediately.

“It was later in the night that we heard loud noise and saw some boys fighting over another boy, thereby attracting all in the neighbourhood.”

TheNews.ng learned, however, that the boys took to their heels when policemen patrolling the area stormed the hotel, following a phone call from one of the neighbours.

It was further gathered that the police are currently quizzing the management of the hotel.

Warri homosexual brothers

Meantime, two young men have been arrested by policemen of the “B” Division Police Station, Warri, Delta State for allegedly indulging in homosexuality.

The suspects, whose names were given as Mr. Johnson Onoriode Efenaghor and his sibling Emmanuel Efenaghor, were said to have been apprehended by the Police, following a complaint by one Kelvin Williams who was sexually molested, abused and defiled by the duo.

TheNews.ng findings revealed that the suspects gave in to sodomy while in Lagos.

Johnson, it was gathered, is the principal actor who committed the act to initiate Kelvin into homosexualism, while his brother, Emmanuel, was arrested as an accomplice.

Emmanuel’s silence on the crime of his elder brother was sequel to the threats from his brother not to reveal his criminal tendencies.

TheNews.ng gathered that the victim, Kelvin, was not comfortable with the act and reported to the Police to save himself from threat to his life by his lover who warned him not to let anybody know about the sacrilegious act or he would be killed.

William narates ordeal

Narrating his ordeal, William said the whole thing started in July when Mr. Onoriode Johnson Efenaghor accosted him on his way to visit his father at Odion Road, Warri, and told him that he was handsome and would like both of them to become friends.

He further said that he later visited Johnson who persuaded him to sleep in his house, not knowing he had other intentions. He said Johnson did all to lure him into the sin of sodomy.

Calling the Police

On why he reported to the police, which led to the arrest of Johnson, he said: “I decided to tell the police because I knew that homosexuality is an offence. Second, my grandfather is a pastor and I live with him. Even when I told him that I arrested somebody, he didn’t believe me. My grandfather is a pastor and I didn’t grow up with street life.”

TheNews.ng investigation revealed that Johnson, who is currently cooling off in the police cell, admitted to have made attempt to have carnal knowledge of Kelvin but could not gain access due to plea by the victim to have the real fun at another rescheduled date.

While saying that he was introduced into the act by a Jehovah Witness man who came to preach to him in Lagos three years ago, the suspect pleaded for mercy from constituted authority, promising not to indulge in the act again.

Divisional Police Office, DPO, “B” Division, Warri, CSP Anietie Eyoh, could not been reached for comments, but an impeccable source from the station confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspects, noting that they would be charged to court soon.

Nairaland / General / So Sad! Hid’s 94-year-old Sibling Weeps Over Her Death by NaijNewsToday: 1:32am On Sep 25, 2015

Ninety-four year-old sibling of the late HID Awolowo, Pa Taiwo Adelana, visited the Ikenne country home of the Awolowos on Thursday and wept profusely on learning that her elder sister had passed on.

Adelana, a retired teacher, was brought into the Efunyela Hall inside the compound at exactly 3:20pm on a wheelchair by a relation. He was not aware of his sister’s death until he got to Ikenne on Thursday.

Wiping tears from his face with a white handkerchief, he could only exclaim, “ha! ha! ha!,” speaking to no one in particular.

The nonagenarian, whose speech was incoherent, told journalists that he had been dreaming about her late elder sister since the past three days. This, he said, forced him to insist that he should be brought to Ikenne to see her sisiter from Lagos where he lives.

Pa Adelana explained that HID Awolowo had always said he would be one of those that would bury her.

Amidst sobs and tears, he said, “She (HID) had always said I would be the one to bury her. Oh, now she’s gone! She really cared for me, ha, ha, ha!”

He was later assisted by a relation to sign the condolence register.

The matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty was born on November 25, 1915, and passed on last Saturday, exactly 67 days to her centenary birthday.

Meanwhile, the first male grandson of the Awolowo dynasty, Segun Awolowo(Jnr.), said on Thursday that his late grandmother, HID Awolowo was more than a grandmother to him.

He said this on Thursday at the Ikenne home of the family while fielding questions from journalists.

He said he lived with both his late grandmother and grandfather at Ikenne, from where he attended the then Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye.

He said, “For me, Mama was more than a grandmother because I actually lived here with both of them. I grew up here. It was from here I went to the university. They were like parents to me.”

Awolowo Jnr., who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, noted that his grandmother was a pillar of support to the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the entire family and the nation at large.

He stressed that the matriarch of the family lived with the ideals of Papa, even after his demise.

He said, “She had lived a good life. Although she was frail, her brain was very sharp. For her to pass on peacefully is a thing of joy. We, in our own human ways and selfishness, wanted her to be alive for her 100th birthday, which we are preparing for, but it is not to be. This is God’s wish for her life.

“It is a thing of great joy and it calls for celebration. She was an epitome of great womanhood. She had become an example to mothers and wives all over the world for her devotion to her husband, to the family and the country.”

When asked to comment on some of his fond memories of Mama, he said, “I am not going to reveal that to you, because I’m writing a tribute. I can tell you that her love for this country surpasses what anybody can imagine.

Nairaland / General / Student Is Caught Watching Porn During Lecture When He Forgets To Plug In His H by NaijNewsToday: 10:17am On Aug 14, 2015
Student is caught watching porn during lecture when he forgets to plug in his headphones (photos)

A video has emerged of the awkward - and hilarious - moment a student is caught watching porn during a lecture because he forgot to plug his earphones in. The student (I circled him) had been sitting quietly in a lecture at Sydney's University of NSW with his headphones on while he tapped away at his laptop.
But while the lecturer is explaining his PowerPoint slides in front of hundreds of students, erotic noises suddenly fill the room.

Sounds of amorous gasps and screams from the porn film echo through the lecture hall while the students erupt in laughter.

Meanwhile, the man on the laptop appears totally unaware as to why the others are laughing.

Finally, he catches on, and starts tracing the chord on his headphones back to the laptop - at which point he receives another huge laugh.

He attempts to plug the earphones into the machine a couple of times before slamming the computer shut and storming out of the lecture hall, visibly stunned and embarrassed by his clumsy ordeal.

6. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan

Emmanuel Uduaghan was the governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015. He a$$umed office via an inconclusive election on May 29, 2007 and is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). A medical doctor by profession, Prior to becoming Governor he was the Commissioner for Health, Delta State and the Secretary to the State Government.Uduaghan ran again for governor in the 26 April 2011 elections, and was reelected.

Gov Uduaghan kissed in the church in front of the Priest like a veteran.. This has really boosted his ranking among other Nigerian Politicians when it comes to romance. Kudos, more grease to your elbow sir,

7. Babatunde Raji Fashola, ( SAN )

Babatunde Fashola was the Lagos State Governor from May 29, 2007 to May 29, 2015. As a candidate of the Action Congress party, now known as the All Progressives Congress, Fashola succeeded Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on 14 April 2007, and was sworn in on 29 May 2007. He was re-elected on 26 April 2011.

BRF is one of the great men in this country, not because he is a politician or former governor of Lasgidi nor cos he s a close associate to Mr. President.. But because he s always standing out in anything he s doing. He has always been taking his profession, interest, opportunities and family seriously.. And so far, he s doing excellently in all ..And here is a proof.

8. Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro (popularly known as Koro)

Musiliu Obanikoro is a Nigerian politician. He served as Senator for Lagos State from 2003–2007, and was later appointed High Commissioner to Ghana. He served as the Minister of State for Defence during 2014.

Obanikoro is a strong politician, who’ s calculative, determine and courageous. Some people do say “he s kind” while some other people do say “he s wicked”.. I’m not sure if he cares about that because he has gathered so many experiences and for sure realized that no one can satisfy all.. But to his wife, he has always been consistent as a good and caring husband, easy and soft..

9. Olubukola Abubakar Saraki

Olubukola Saraki is a Nigerian politician who has been President of the Senate of Nigeria since 2015. Previously he was Governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011. He was first elected to the Senate in April 2011, representing the Kwara Central senatorial district, and he was re-elected in the March 2015 elections. He is currently the senate president but elected treacherously into the senate presidency.

He is currently a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC); previously he was a member of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP).
Bukola omo Saraki made it to the list, he stood in front of some other great men and women, made them lost, got their mouths opened and threw smiles full of jealousy unto their faces.. The men wished they were him, the women wished they were his wife. This level of romance is not a child’s play.

.

whisper Naija Blog compiled the list of the “10 Most Romantic Nigerian Politicians” after observing so many random pictures and information of these politicians and their wives, and we have come up with this list as the result of our observation.
Lets go there..............

1. Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan

Goodluck Jonathan is a Nigerian politician who was President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015. Prior to his role as President, he served as Governor of Bayelsa State from 2005 to 2007 and as Vice-President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010.

He re-contested and lost the 2015 presidential election, upon which he conceded defeat in the competitive election, the first sitting Nigerian president to do so. Jonathan’s term as President of Nigeria ended on 29 May 2015, when he handed over to his successor, Muhammadu Buhari.

Despite all the pressures from here and there during his tenure as the president, He never stopped showing his wife affection publicly and privately. Now that he s no more the president, I believe he’s gonna be fully back with his wife, shower more love on her and enjoy his money with her.

2. Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi

Abiola Ajimobi is a Nigerian politician from Oyo State in south-western Nigeria. He was formerly the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum, Nigeria. He left the oil sector in 2002 after 26 years, and was elected in 2003 as a Senator of the Republic of Nigeria representing Oyo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). After one term in the senate, he contested in 2007 for the governorship of Oyo state under the banner of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), a bid which he lost. He recontested again in the April 2011 elections under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and was elected Governor of Oyo State in a closely contested vote.

This man is doing great as a governor and also as the husband of his wife, I think he loves kissing her so much, he has been seen so many times kissing his wife publicly, only God knows how far he will be going with her privately . He s so romantic and that has been helping his family.

3. Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole is a former labour leader, turned politician who recently won a landslide victory for a second term as the Governor of Edo State in Nigeria on the platform of the Action Congress . His first term was won following his court appeal to the results of a ma$$ively rigged April 2007 election in which the candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party Oserheimen Osunbor had initially been declared the winner. He a$$umed office on 12 November 2008 after winning the appeal.

Oshiomhole was formerly president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and was prominent as the leader of a campaign of industrial action against high oil prices in Nigeria.
You can marry a woman with money, but it takes love and affection to always make her smile, Comrade Oshiomole is a confirm Edo man, who has the romantic strength and money to keep his woman ever smiling.

4. Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Bola Tinubu aka Jagaban was elected Senator for the Lagos West constituency in Lagos State,Nigeria in 1993, just before a military take-over in December 1993. After the return to democracy, he was elected governor of Lagos State, holding office from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. He is an influential member of the All Progressives Congress party; he also holds both the chieftaincy of the Asiwaju of Lagos and that of the Jagaban of the Borgu Kingdom in the Northern Niger State of Nigeria. He is the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) party with the newly elected president Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).

Jagaban is an old man who has proven himself to be more lively and romantic than so many young people out there. He loves keeping his madam by his side during special occasions, he does not care what people will say, whenever he feels like kissing, he will do it without looking at anybody’s face.

5. Kayode John Fayemi

Kayode Fayemi is the former Governor of Ekiti State and a native of Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government of Ekiti State, Nigeria. And also a very strong member of APC till date.
He attended Christ’s School Ado Ekiti from 1975-1980 and received degrees in History, Politics and International Relations from the Universities of Lagos and Ife in Nigeria and his Doctorate in War Studies from the prestigious King’s College, University of London, England.

Dr. Fayemi’s wife is very supportive and she shares the same interest with her husband, no wonder they always move together, gives each other mor*le and courage to attempt great things. They smile always whenever they are together. They don’t show too much romance publicly, but its doubtless, so many terrible romantic fun will always be in there privately.

Nairaland / General / Two Isis-bound Nigerian Men Arrested In India (photo) by NaijNewsToday: 9:49pm On Aug 07, 2015
Two young Nigerian men, Imran Kabeer 24 and Sani Jamiliu 25, both from Kano state, were arrested today August 7th in India as they made their way allegedly to join the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq

According to reports, the young men were arrested at the India-Pakistan border as they made to scale a barbed wire fence. When interrogated by India's Border Security Force officials, Imran and Sani said they were on their way to Pakistan and then to Iraq to join ISIS but when searched, they had no valid travel documents to enter Pakistan but it was found that they had entered India on August 6th.

They made their way from Amritsar city to Delhi and arrived at the integrated check point at Attari on Friday morning.

“On finding the border gates closed, the youths moved towards a barbed wire fence along the Attari-Wagah rail track (on which the Samjhauta Express peace train between both countries plies) and jumped over the high barbed wire fence, thinking they had entered Pakistan. BSF personnel immediately nabbed them,” a BSF official said.

Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. Olufemi Thomas has voluntarily submitted himself to EFCC, to clear the air on the $2.1million cash seized at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja- Lagos.

One Mr. Ibiteye Bamidele (pictured above), a bureau de change operator who was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for being in possession of the $2.1m cash suspected to be laundered, had implicated the ex-NHIS boss.

The suspect was however declared wanted by the EFCC on Thursday on the suspicion that he had absconded to evade justice.

But Thomas, a former Commissioner for Health in Ekiti State voluntarily submitted himself for interrogation on Friday at EFCC Headquarters in Abuja but denied that he was planning to run away because he did not get any invitation from the anti-graft agency.

Dressed in a white brocade, Dr. Thomas who arrived the EFCC around 10: am was drilled by the commission's operative to ascertain his level of complicity.

He was released at about 2:pm. However, the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren could not be reached as at press time to confirm the interrogation.

His media aide, Mr. Sola Adeyemi had in a statement described his boss as a thoroughbred professional and dutiful public servant who would not stand in the face of the law.

The statement reads in part,"Dr. Femi Thomas is a law-abiding public individual that has treatable addresses in Lagos and Ekiti. He is a man that I work with and I know him for his words and actions. As I speak, we are yet to receive any formal invitation from any quarter on the allegation.

"For the avoidance of doubt, my boss is not on the run, he is in Nigeria, he is available and ready to present himself to the EFCC as soon as he is invited."

Nairaland / General / Thai Man Sentenced To 30yrs In Prison For Facebook Posts Insulting Monarchy by NaijNewsToday: 9:13pm On Aug 07, 2015
A 48-year-old man named Pongsak Sriboonpeng was today Friday August 7th handed the lengthy prison sentence by the military court, having been prosecuted under Thailand’s royal defamation law.

His lawyer Sasinan Thamnithinan told AFP that his sentence was 60 years - a decade for each six Facebook posts he made but this was halved as he had pleaded guilty.

"It's broken the record," she said about the severe jail term. She further added that because Pongsak was arrested while Thailand was still under martial law there was no right to appeal the sentence passed by the military court.

Under Section 112 of the Criminal Code, anyone convicted of insulting the king, queen, heir or regent faces up to 15 years in prison on each count.

A woman named Chioma Anoruo has been arrested by the Owerri, Imo state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), after she confessed to selling about 19 children to ritualists. According to a report by The Guardian, Mrs. Anoruo was arrested by the Orlu community local vigilante group. She was subsequently handed over to the police.

During the raid, five children, including a new-born baby, already kidnapped for sale, were rescued from her house, while a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) belonging to her husband, Emeka, who is now on the run, was recovered along with an undisclosed large sum of money.

According to The Heat Nigeria, an online media, residents had complained of incessant disappearance of children in the area, which was of serious concern to the community leaders.
“This year alone, the community has recorded a large number of missing children,”
says a vigilance group member of the community who wanted his name off-print.

On March 30, Master Dominion Obasi, a pupil of Ezioha Community School, Okporo was kidnapped in the school premises and since then, has not been found.

While the community was searching for him, a son of a Deeper Life Church pastor was also kidnapped and is still missing.

However, two sons of the same parents, identified as Chukwuemeka and Chigozie, pupils of Holy Trinity Anglican School, Amazu in Okporo were abducted while returning home after their school had closed for the day.

As the abductors were trying to escape with them on their motorcycle, a palm wine tapper, who saw the two men while on top of a palm tree, raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of vigilance group members, who pursued them and apprehended one of the suspects identified as Ebuka.
The arrest of Anorue followed Ebuka’s confession that she and her husband were his sponsors, who buy each child from his gang for N100,000.

According to the vigilance group member, when Chioma’s husband, Emeka sighted them, he escaped through the back door while his wife was apprehended and forced to open their doors where the victims were found inside a room in captivity.

During her confession, she revealed that human merchandise had been their family business for years. She confessed that her major work in the business was to keep the victims while her husband would contact buyers and sell them.

She also confessed that they had sold more than 19 children and the remaining five were waiting to be sold to their customers before her arrest.

Meanwhile, the vigilance group has transferred the suspect and the rescued victims to SCID Owerri under a department led by one Supol Obi for further investigation.

Crime / Ogun State Prostitutes Protest Murder, Ritual Killing Of Colleague In Abeokuta, by NaijNewsToday: 8:26am On Aug 05, 2015
Several commercial sex workers in Abeokuta on Monday night held a candlelight procession in honour of their colleague, who was allegedly killed by suspected ritualists last Sunday.

People suspected to be ritualists, had killed and dumped the corpse of one 23-year-old Sitira at a refuse site at Oloomore junction, Abeokuta, in the early hours of the fateful day.

A chunk of flesh was severed from her right arm by her assailants.

The ‎late Sitira was said to have been thrown off from a moving Sport Utility Vehicle along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway.

The sex workers, ‎who wore black dresses, stormed the state secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta‎, on Monday night, wailing.

However, on Monday, ‎about 50 commercial sex workers, plying their trade in Abeokuta, converged on the NUJ secretariat and also at the frontage of the nearby residence of former Head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan.

They identified their slain colleague wi‎th different names such as Titi and Folake.

Bearing lighted candles, they chanted various solidarity songs and rained curses on the unnamed killers of their colleague.

They said, “Oro nla le da, oro nla le da, eyin tepa Titi, t’eje o dagba, oro nla le da. Omo yin ma ku, eeeheee Omo yin maku, eyin tepa Titi t’eje o dagba, omo yin ma ku.”

Meaning, “You have done something grievous, you have done something grievous by killing Titi prematurely. The killers‎ of Titi (Sitira) have done something grievous. Their children will die, their children will die, those that killed Titi, will lose their children.”

They later departed for the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, another spot where they ply their trade to continue their mourning.

Speaking with journalists, some of them claimed that another colleague in the same business was killed by suspected ritualists alongside Sitira.

They explained that the mutilated remains‎ of the sex worker was uncovered in a ditch at the same Olomoore, Abeokuta.

Celebrities / Us-based Lady Accuses Timaya Of Rape, Shares Voice Recordings And Chats by NaijNewsToday: 10:20am On Jul 25, 2015

My attention was just drawn to an instagram page opened yesterday by an Atlanta based lady, who is accusing popular Nigerian singer Timaya of rape. The anonymous lady shared chats between herself and a person she claims is Timaya, she also shared voice recordings from their phone conversations. The last thing I want to do is ruin a career but if a lady cries rape, the media has a duty to at least hear her out but bear in mind that these are all allegations. Before posting the voice recordings, I played it to a few entertainers who confirmed that it's truly Timaya's voice, but at no point did he directly admit to rape...though he was begging the lady for forgiveness.
