While some could have rivalled a human comedian for generating a wry smile, others worked less well.

One joke that did not work so well was: "I like my men like I like my court … superior."

One of the program's creators, David Matthews, of the university's school of informatics, said when they tested the jokes on volunteers they found they laughed, although not as much as man made humour.

He admits the machine now has to develop cultural awareness, something some real, live human comedians still struggle with.

Authorities said they will on Thursday begin preparing the airport's domestic terminal, which escaped the blaze, for handling international flights, using tents to create extra space. Domestic flights and outward bound cargo flights were due to resume on Wednesday evening.

The raging blaze engulfed the terminal buildings and lit up the early morning sky, sending billowing clouds of black smoke rising in a plume that was visible from miles away.

The intense heat repeatedly drove back firefighters who battled for five hours to put out the fire, the worst on record at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, east Africa's busiest.

The devastating fire coincided with the 15th anniversary of a twin attack by Islamist militants on the United States embassy in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital of neighboring Tanzania. But there was no immediate evidence that the attack was linked to any militant groups.

Michael Kamau, cabinet secretary for transport said an investigation into the fire would start immediately but that it was too early to speculate on the cause.

Authorities said they had beefed up security at the airport and key installations in east Africa's biggest economy.

The blaze stranded thousands of passengers at the airport and exporters of perishable produce, mainly flowers, feared for their export-driven business, a leading source of foreign currency earnings for Kenya alongside tea exports and tourism.

The fire was also a blow to Kenya right at the start of the peak tourism season, a key sector for the Kenyan economy.

"This is disastrous," Jane Ngige, chief executive officer of exporters association Kenya Flower Council, told Reuters.

Mahmud Jan Mohamed, the managing director of Kenyan hotel operator TPS Serena, said it was a little early to tell the full impact of the disruption to tourism.

"The first half of the year for Kenya was tough but we had an excellent July and bookings up to October are at very buoyant levels so the last thing we need is this," he said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from the fire, which started in the arrivals and immigration area. Business travellers and tourists were diverted to other airports.

Shares in Kenya Airways, which uses the airport as its hub, fell as much as 2 percent, before recovering.

The airline said its overnight flights from London and Bangkok would land as scheduled in Nairobi on Thursday morning, the first overseas flights at the airport since the fire.

Preparations to accommodate more international flights would be carried out on Thursday, said Transport secretary Kamau.

"From tomorrow we will be preparing this unit ... as an international terminal for departures and arrivals," Kamau told reporters. "We started pitching tents on the airside for handling departing passengers."

Foreign carriers using the terminal include Emirates, British Airways, Qatar, KLM), Turkish Airways, South African Airways and Ethiopian airlines.

The airport, built in 1978 with a capacity for 2.5 million passengers a year, handles 6 million or about 16,000 a day.

Inside the gutted building, neat lines of metal trolleys with melted plastic handles were the only clear reminder that the building - whose roof partially collapsed - was once an airport terminal.

Security analysts said there was as yet no indication of any link to Islamist militants that Kenyan soldiers are battling in neighbouring Somalia as part of an African Union force.

"It doesn't bear the hallmarks of an al Shabaab operation but one never knows. It might be something new," said a regional security analyst, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Some tourists to the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve where the annual wildebeest migration is taking place were stranded and had canceled their bookings, tour operators said.

International flights were diverted to Kenya's port city of Mombasa. Plans were under way to divert other flights to Eldoret in the northwest and Kisumu in the west, as well as to neighbouring countries including Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

Passengers faced bus trips of hundreds of miles to reach the Kenyan capital.

Twilight got a lot of buzz in last week’s Fresh Meat column, and it appears the app might live up to the hype. The app makes your device screen adapt to the time of the day by filtering the blue spectrum on your phone or tablet after sunset and protecting your eyes with a soft and pleasant red filter. The average review score is 4.6, and I’m installing it right now.

4. InCall Recorder

InCall Recorder might be one of the first call recording apps that works well, and it’s actually free to install. Some users report it works great, while others say it’s not compatible with their device. Filter the Google Play reviews by your device to see what others are saying before you take the time to download it and try it out.

5. Burner

If you like to sell items on Craigslist and you need a disposable number, then Burner might be the solution you need. Burner maintains a pool of numbers that you can rent on-demand and then dispose of when no longer needed. I have been playing with the app for the last week, and it still has me entertained.

Overkill 2 is a new game for people that like to customize guns. This sequel to the popular original lets you modify 30 realistic 3D guns the way you feel they should be and then take them to the action. These stand-still type of shooters are not my thing, so I have yet to check it out.

Swizzle is a well designed app that can help anyone make cocktails and mix drinks like a bartender or mixologist. The app features thousands of drink recipes, including a selection of non alcoholic and virgin drinks. Additional features include a My Cabinet section that allows you to store your ingredients inventory, a built-in shopping list, and the ability to create your own recipies and share them with friends.

Rounding out the Top 10 is Fetch, an app discovery platform that is powered by tags. Users can define the traits they are looking for in apps, and then Fetch creates a personalized feed of apps that match what they are looking for. The app allows you to follow some detailed traits like “button mashing,” “boss battles,” and “war games” so it’s easy to create a feed that will deliver apps you will love.

NairaCoded reporting from BENIN CITY — THE Edo State Police Command, yesterday,
paraded 26 suspected criminals including a pastor identified as
Philips Ogbebor, alleged to have had carnal knowledge of a 20-
year-old male member of his church (names withheld).
After the act, the pastor allegedly threatened to kill his victim if he
disclosed the act to the public.
Speaking to Vanguard, Pastor Ogbebor simply said: “God will
judge, go and talk to others” and kept on mumbling.
The alleged gay pastor
But his victim narrated his ordeal: “I told him I have never done
this since I grew up, but he insisted. It was painful and I told him I
will not allow it again. So after the second attempt, I told him I will
expose the act. He then administered an oath on me, saying if I
ever told any one, I will die.
“He carried sand and olive oil and poured them on my head, then
he wore black garment, saying I will die if I ever leaked the secret.
He killed a black fowl and gave me the liver and gizzard to eat at
about 2 a.m., threatening that if I ever said it out, I will die like the
fowl.
“But when I realised that it is a sin, I met a man of God to pray for
me that God should forgive me and that I am ready to expose it
since he forced me. There after I went to the church and told the
congregation about the act. When he heard it, he threatened me
by sending his younger brother and members of his gang after
me. Since then I have been running.”

The state Police Commissioner, Folusho Adebanjo, explained that
among the suspects were two suspected cultists believed to have
participated in the recent rival cult clash in the state and seven
suspected pipeline vandals and operators of illegal refineries.
Others were two suspected robbers, from whom a Toyota
Camry car they stole at gunpoint in Kaduna State was recovered; a
suspect who was alleged to have demanded N20 million ransom
from one Joseph with death threats and three others whom the
police boss said were in possession of firearms without licence

were said to have dragged a 20-year-old female victim into the
bush. He also paraded five persons including a middle aged
woman all from Ojah, Akoko-Edo Local Government council
accused of burning to death, one Funmi Abiodun on allegation of
being a witch responsible for the death of a relation.
According to him, “the war against criminality is relentlessly being
waged against men of the underworld. The command is not
leaving any stone unturned regarding crime and criminality in Edo
State.
“This man who claimed to be a pastor defiled a young person.
Another thing that is so common here and I don’t know why this
defilement issue is so prevalent.
“I wonder if there is something about it. You see very old men
defiling young girls who are five years, two years, and so on. We
are not going to tolerate this and cases of rape are also increasing
too but we will go all out to make sure that they are convicted.”

Williams, an ex armed robber who repented while in the Sokoto
prison, have begun a five-day crusade in Ogbomoso, Oyo State,
yesterday.
Confirming the new status of Obasanjo, a cleric who is also an

Bishop Kayode Williams are coming to Ogbomoso for a five-day
crusade beginning from today (yesterday).
The whole city is agog for the programme tagged ‘‘Healing
Ogbomoso Land Gospel Crusade’’ holding at the Beulah Baptist
Convention Ground, Ogbomoso. The programme is being hosted
by Ogbomoso Christian Ministers’ Fellowship.”
According to him, Obasanjo may have resolved to spend the
remaining years of his life serving God who brought him out of
prison and made him president for eight years. He said: “Baba
Obasanjo has many reasons for returning to God to serve him.
You would recall how Gen. Abacha arrested him with others,
sentenced him to death for alleged involvement in a phantom
coup; he was set free after spending three years, three months
and three days in prison. He was elected president and served for
eight years and today he has many reasons to serve the same
God. Don’t forget that he graduated as an evangelist from the
National Open University. God could use anyone who is ready
and willing to serve him.”

1. Turn Off Wifi when not in use
• To Disable Wifi
• Click on the Network Settings area on your home screen
• Uncheck Wi-Fi (to enable Wifi repeat the process but check the box)

2. Dim the Backlight
Much Backlight quickly drain your battery. Turning the brightness down (even just a bit) can help immensely to extend your battery. Personally I always drop my screen brightness to 10% and have never had an issue. It may seem a bit dark at first for some, but trust me, once you adjust to it you'll never know the difference and your battery will thank you.

• To change your backlight brightness:
• Go to Options > Display > Screen Display
• Scroll to Backlight Brightness and change to 10
• Change Your Backlight Timeout
• Keep it low
• Go to Options > Display > Screen Display
• Scroll to Backlight Timeout and change to 20 Sec.

3. Turn Off Bluetooth When Not In Use
• To Disable Bluetooth:
• Click on the Network Settings area on your home screen
• Uncheck Bluetooth (to enable Bluetooth repeat the steps but check the box)
• Change Network Settings In Poor Coverage
• Change your Network Settings to 2G:
• Click on the Network Settings area on your home screen
• Choose Networks and Connections > Mobile Network
• Choose the dropdown box next to Network Mode and select 2G

4. Exit Unused Apps
Unexited Apps will keep running in the Background and running down your Battery.
To close unused apps:
1. Press and hold the Menu button to open the app switcher
2. Highlight and select the app you want to close
3. When in the app, press the Menu button again then exit (shutdown, logout) the app
