Politics › Nigeria : Stereotyping The North And South by Nairadean(op): 1:55pm On Oct 29, 2016 |
BY Salami Ismail NIGERIA (I): STEREOTYPING THE NORTH Any Northern elite fighting over oil is lazy and myopic! The North is so blessed with arable land more than capable of making that region economically viable and independent. If the Northerners had gotten their acts together, we should not be importing wheat and rice in this country! The most hardworking Northerners are the indigenous ethnicities. The Fulani (feudal) wants to be served. The Hausas are very hardworking, but mingling with the Fulanis has made them talk from both sides of the mouth! Virtually all textile plants in the North have shut down. Cotton farms are almost non existent! To make matters worse, the enabling environment is hostile. would you invest in the North as at present? I am not talking Kogi or Kebbi states. Both Benue (especially the Tiv part) and Plateau states are conflict hotbeds! The NE is ravaged by insurgency. The Northern elites are lazy and they prefer the easy way out. They are the champions of petro-corruption. Crude oil brings the big pie and since they got their hands stuck in it, they do not want to let go. The indigenous Northerners are extremely hardworking. Most agricultural products that sustain us in this country come from the North. My sympathy lies with the millions of the Northern poor masses as they are mainly restricted by the feudal systems obtainable in the North. The Northern ruling elites, especially the governors, need to work aggressively on the very low Human Development Index (HDI) of the Northern region. Folks of Northern extraction have been at the helms of affairs in this country for over 40 years of our 56-year existence, yet the Northern region’s HDI is extremely poor and that’s putting it mildly! The feudal overlords and Arabic conquistadors see their subjects as insignificant beyond their selfish interests. They exhibit little appetite for upgrading the mental values of their subjects. Hence the reason why illiteracy, VVF, poverty is comparatively higher in the North. An offshoot of these negatives indices is the birth of homegrown terrorism! The data is there for everyone to see. I hope you will see this as an expression of facts and not a propagation of tribalism! NIGERIA (II): STEREOTYPING THE SOUTH For as many lazy-myopic Northern elite that we have in this country, there are double greedy-selfish Southern elite too. The Southern masses who pride themselves as hardworking, literate, far sighted and smart are just a bunch of self-deceiving hypocrites who are as complicit as their Northern counterparts. God knows that Northerners have very little to do with the terrible reputation Nigeria has all over the world. How many Hausa or Fulani people have you seen paraded for drug trafficking or internet fraudster (419ers)? This job description is the speciality of the Igbos and Yorubas! The strongest football team in Bandung, the third largest city in Indonesia, is a team of Nigerians in prison and guess what, they are all Southerners! But no, Let us focus on VVF, leaving the log in our eye while trying to fix the speck in another’s eye! For the Northern VVF statistics, peruse the Southern HIV/AIDS statistics. For Northern insurgents/terrorists, see Southern vandals/kidnappers. For Northern beggars statistics, check the Southern prostitutes statistics! While the Northern elites deliberately ran down a very productive region to chase after petrodollars, their Southern elites also stifled the Southern masses for selfish interests. Let’s go down the slavery lane. Slavery built Liverpool. Why did slavery not build Badagry or Benin Or Calabar? Every slave in Liverpool was previously sold at some African port, so what did the Africans do with their share of the loot? Evidently our forefathers were very much like the Nigerian leadership today – shortsighted and inept! Truth be told, the lack of a feudal system handicaps the South. Everybody is a ‘big man’ or an ‘over-sabi’. No one wants to bow down or follow. How can you have leadership without a follower-ship? Then people talk about tourism in Nigeria. How can tourism flourish when the porter thinks he is better than the tourist and only carries your bag for the opportunity to steal it? Yes , it is a very Southern thing and we will say ‘Malo/Aboki (Hausa) is not sharp’. But in all honesty, virtually all Southern ‘street smartness’ is criminally inclined! I hope you will see this as an expression of facts and not a propagation of tribalism! Source: https://ibadanelite./2016/10/29/nigeria-stereotyping-the-north-and-south/ |

The Story of Ibadan Taxi driver Samaritan and The Police: Admonition for Faithfuls
On the 23rd of September, a facebook user, Johnson abbaly discolsed on his timeline the story of a taxi driver in Ibadan who honestly returned a whooping sum of N170,000 and other valuables found in his cab to the owner with the aid of the Nigeria Police Force's (NPF) gallant and patriotic personnels in the capital city of Oyo State. This, ever since it occured had sprang up series of encomium from the general public while some have chosen the otherwise in condemning the good Samaritan's patriotic and honest action considering the economic recession and the challenges being encountered by Nigerians, great temptations Mr. Damilare overcame.
The Episode was naturally shot in Ibadan with the scene of a patriotic taxi man, Mr Damilare Adesiyan, who picked up a passenger, at Mokola Round-about in Ibadan, whose destination is Iwo Road. The passenger, who unveiled himself as Mr Balogun Segun in one of the comments on the Facebook post of Mr Johnson, kept his luggage in the booth of the taxi cab all through the trip, on getting to his unknown destination, the excitement of discovering the location entangled him and caused the loss of his belongings in the taxi cab, as narrated by the passenger on the maiden edition of The Conversation programme of Splash FM radio station on Saturday, 8th October, 2016.
Immediately it was realised that something important was missen on him, he got into disarray and saw the world "crashing" on him, with in the period of searching for the missing bag, as a result of valuable documents of contract existing on the Personal Computer PC (Laptop) in his missen bag without a backup. Fortunately for him, not too long after enquiring for the taxi man at the bustop he got Mr Damilare's call.
On the side of Mr Damilare, after he realised the passenger, Mr Balogun, alighted from the cab forgetting his bag, he brought it out and checked in order to be sure it contained legitimate and not incriminating contents before alerting the police. He was amazed as he found cash and some other valuables in it but he never allowed his hustling state to shadow his wise decision as he had been unable pay his house rent for a while. The worst was he being unable to leave fund for his wife for feeding when he left home and as well buying fuel on credit to pilot Mr. Balogun to his destination from Mokola while the passenger was on board. Reasons enough for him to keep the cash and sell the valuables but he held on to his integrity.
Mokola police station in Ibadan received the report and swiftly acted towards ensuring contact was established with the owner of the belongings, which is highly commendable. Many Nigerians already lost hope in the Nigerian Police Force as a result of some of their misdemeanor in the past. This occurrence has revealed that the police force still contains personnels with honesty, loyalty, patriotism and dutiful characters and training. It also denotes that reorientation and training has been embarked upon to guide the force personnels in their respective jurisdictions in order have an utmost performance in the safety of life and properties across Nigeria.
The joint effort of the two parties, the taxi man and the police personels deserve recognition and honors even though the police were on their duties. We can also deduce from this allegory that honesty, faithfulness, patriotism, loyalty as enshrined in our National Anthem and National pledge, still exist in our society having our economy in recession and many average Nigerians hustling for daily survival. It is also a message to the Muhammad Buhari led government to fast track sustainable and adequate projects that will directly impact on the masses and alleviate our hardships.
God Bless Mr. Damilare, God Bless Nigeria Police Personels, God Bless Nigerian Police Force, God Bless Nigeria.

Politics › Aregbesola's Even Visitation To Ekiti, Hint To Tinubu's Rivals by Nairadean(op): 2:56pm On Oct 05, 2016 |
Aregbesola's even visitation to Ekiti, hint to Tinubu's rivals
Ekiti State celebrated its 20th Anniversary on Saturday, 1st October, 2016 and it was graced by a ruling party Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Abdul-Rauf Aregbesola who delivered a lecture on Nigeria's economic challenges titled "The imperative of unity". At the occasion, the two governors had divergent perspectives over the sale of national assets as the purported proposed action was described by the host Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as auctioning Nigeria at a giveaway price while the visiting governor reiterated the necessity to sell off our idle assets and spare the active ones in order to lift up the country from the mud of economic recession.
This august visitation by the governor of the State of Osun to Ekiti state became even having recalled the visit of Governor Fayose to Osun in January this year where he revealed that embracing Ogbeni was not political but for his unshaken belief in the oneness of the Yoruba nation.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola once served a boss as Commissioner for Works in Lagos State and with the aid of this boss he mounted the throne as a Governor under the auspices of the present ruling party at the center. The said boss is no other personality than Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jagaban, as Tinubu is famously known, currently has dispute with the party's national chairman for overruling the recommendations of the 3-man Appeal committee set up to probe the primary election of the party's flag bearers in Ondo state gubernatorial race, which was upheld by the National Working Committee (NWC), to cancel the previous primary election organized by the party in the state. This face-off had gotten escalated that Asiwaju requested for the resignation of the party's national chairman, John Oyegun. The supporters of the party chairman are already in war of words with Asiwaju, condemning his call for Oyegun's resignation.
However, it is no more news that Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State (The oshokomole 1) had been attacking both President Buhari and the ruling party since the inception of the ruling government while the state chapter of the ruling party and the governor are like sworn enemies. They are part of the reasons why the Ekiti chapter of APC sparked, after the visitation of Aregbesola, to express strong disapproval over his attendance at the State's 20th Anniversary and vowing to oppose any future alignment of the Ekiti Governor with the ruling party.
We might be committing fallacy if we regard the visitation as necessary by pitching an excuse that the state is celebrating its 20 years of existence and because it's a South-western state. Assuming the two governors were not in good terms Ogbeni would have shelved dining with Oshokomole 1 of Ekiti.
The absence of other APC South-west governors or their representatives and the timing of the visitation could make us deduce that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is sending a message through his men to his rivals in the party as a clear warning for them to desist from any intent to rubbish his personality or cripple his powers in the party or face possible re-alignment in future, as Osun governor hint his counterpart in Ekiti on probable synchronization of forces in the nearest future.
Tinubu's political influence in the South-west region cannot be over looked as he had the record of supporting a Southern President to emerge in 2011 and as well joined forces to overthrow the same government with the 2015 general elections which produced a Northerner. No doubt, realigning his forces with another "party", if this crisis is not well managed, might cause the downfall of the ruling party before and after 2019, the next general election.

Education › World Teachers' Day: Why The Worth Of The Teaching Profession Depreciates by Nairadean(op): 3:58am On Oct 05, 2016*. Modified: 4:57am On Oct 05, 2016 |
Oct 5: Teachers can't earn high remuneration, a repugnant dogma
The father of the evergreen human right activist and a musical icon, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, led a united front for practioners of the teaching profession across Nigeria to establish a sublime economic condition and improved welfarism of teachers which have now been reduced to an abysmal state. The dastardly act of cutting teachers' remunerations and maltreating (taking their welfarism with levity) them, there by resulting into a great depression amidst the practioners, were the dominant catalysts that erupted the emergence of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) whose maiden national president was Rev. Oladotun Ransome Kuti (late), formerly the president of the Association of Headmasters of Ijebu Schools (AHIS).
These condemnable acts against the profession had been receiving absolute repugnance from the Union (NUT) since 1931 when it was established, but unfortunately It further graduated to become a norm and belief adopted by both the government and private entities to manage the well-being of teachers in our society. This had apparently discredited both their personalities and the profession itself in all ramifications.
Teachers, who raised and mentored the likes of Senators, Honourables, Governors, Chairmen, Special Advisers, President to mention but a few in government and likewise the proprietors, proprietresses and founders of private educational institutions who are beneficiaries of these mentors, are now being reduced to beggars (hustling for loans) to survive and yet we still crave for peak performance from them in the disgusting states the beneficiaries (now in power) stuck them.
Anyone who had witnessed the gathering of teachers (NUT meetings and others), either in their respective State secretariats or the National Secretariat, wouldn't disapprove of the fact that the physical and mental appearance of personalities in the teaching profession in both secondary and primary schools are abysmal, ridiculous and discouraging, pardon the illustration.
The teaching profession in Nigeria has been infected to an extent that an average youth or the "upcoming" youth (pupils and students) had suddenly become allergic to teaching over decades ( in Secondary, pre-primary and primary educational institutions) and instead they aspire to be governors, politicians, CEOs, MDs and others at the expense of teaching.
Private school teachers bear the brunt more as they are paid peanuts. Some earn N30,000, while some others are belittled to an amount of N10,000 or N15,000 monthly in a college, as reported by Vanguard online news portal in 2015. Such are ridiculous remunerations not capable of sufficing a bachelor-teacher or spinster-teacher let alone Married or Married-with-kids teachers.
As Vanguard news further unveiled, the American National Education Association disclosed that, depending on the state, high school teachers in US get as much as $48,631 while the best-paid 10 percent in the field made approximately $86,720, while the bottom 10 percent made $37,230.
It is regrettably sardonic that teachers are not even paid as and when due by private and mostly the government at the state level. Teachers are not trained continuously, they get one of the worst welfare package and are apparently being owed those packages. These acts and belief need to be eradicated to improve our educational system.
On the 5th of October, 2016, Nigeria with over 100 countries will be celebrating the World Teachers' Day in which many of the practioners of the profession usually felicitate with "an empty stomach" as it had been for years. The excuse of the present economic downturn cannot be considered as genuine because the menace had been in occurrence before this oil "doom" period.
Teachers' employers must rethink and retrace their path to cater for an improved and sustained welfarism of the practioners of the profession in order to rebuild the foundation (pre-primary, primary and secondary learning) of education as the end product will vehemently contribute to uplift Nigeria's economy from the mud of recession and further reposition the Nation to the of top of others across the globe.
Further more, Improving teacher's welfarism should not be limited to western education only, it should also be extended to religious teachers and preachers as they are considered as most valuable Being, in both the Quran and Bible after our parents.
God Bless our Teachers, Gob Bless our Leaders, God Bless Nigeria.

Space Agency Advises Nigerians Not to Panic over Thursday’s Eclipse Sets up viewing centres in Lagos, Abuja Dele Ogbodo in Abuja The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), on Wednesday advised that Nigerians should not panic over the annular eclipse due to occur in different parts of the country. In a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Media and Corporate Communication, Mr. Felix Ale, in Abuja, said the eclipse will be experienced between the hours of 7:15am and 10:03am with slight variations in actual timing across the country. An annular eclipse, the agency explained, occurs when the sun and the moon are exactly in line, but the apparent size of the moon is smaller than that of the sun, hence the sun appears as a very bright ring or annulus surrounding the dark disk of the moon. He said: “The agency has arranged a viewing centre at the Obasanjo Space centre, along airport road, Abuja, to enable members of the public, pupils and students from various schools to view the eclipse. Ale, said the agency will provide specially designed viewing instruments for Nigerians who wish to watch the eclipse between those hours. According to him, eclipse is an astronomical event, and an occurrence of nature for man to behold but cannot be viewed with the naked eyes as this can cause permanent damage to the human eyes. He said: “The eclipse will be experience at varying obscurities, with the southern part of the country having the highest degree of obscurity of eighty per cent, and in the north the lowest obscurity of fort-five per cent. “In the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, there will be a partial eclipse, with an obscurity of sixty per cent, and the first contact at about 7:17am, with maximum eclipse at 8:32am and end at 10:00am.” According to him, Lagos will also experience its first contact with the eclipse at 7:15am, with a maximum eclipse occurring at 8:32am and ending at about 10:00am. He advised the public not panic or attach any spiritual connotation to this appearance of the eclipse, as this is a natural occurrence which has been accurately predicted by science. “The National Space Research and Development Agency has developed necessary capacity to accurately make these predictions. “The viewing centre which has been set up by the agency will be open to the public on Thursday 1st September, 2016 from 6:45am for school pupils and students to observe the annular eclipse as part of its continuous programmes to expose Nigerians and students to matters concerning astronomical environment.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/08/31/space-agency-advises-nigerians-not-to-panic-over-thursdays-eclipse/ |
