#IWD2019: Beauty, in the context of African Women's Values

By Fatola Abdullahi...

The sustainability of humanity can, undoubtedly, be credited to the existence of the feminine gender. The Beauties found in African women are like a rare gem. However, beauty within this context is not the physique but, unarguably, the potentials, knowledge and wisdom running within the women.

A typical African woman would extend courtesy to others but however gets infuriated when her rights and values are trampled upon. It is quite unfortunate that, many exploit this high level of mannerism and beauties in their possession. This exploitation often occurs during their adolescent age but we have failed to realize the threat it will pose on the economic development of such society.

An article authored by Torres and Knaepen, 2016 revealed that, in the developing world, young women and girls represent a vital invisible part of the work force which corroborates African women's industrious nature. It was said that 62% of economic goods are produced by African women while sadly, 8.5% are salaried, says Women In Africa (WIA) Initiative. They further asserted that Africa has the highest rate of women establishing business across the world.

In view of these beauties that make up an African woman, it is imperative to admonish everyone that women are partners not subordinates and their freedoms should not be withheld. To wrap it up, African women, both young and adults, should "never be limited by other people's limited imagination" as Dr. Mae Jemison, an American Astronaut and Physician, proclaimed. Similarly, A Nigeria writer, Chimamanda Adichie also urged that our feminist premise should always be, "I matter. I matter equally. Not 'if only', not 'as long as'. I matter. Full stop".

This piece is written in commemoration of this year's International Women's Day (2019) as a wish for fruitful life endeavors for all women across the world.

Good morning Guys. Please I have a question to ask and would appreciate your feedback. I would like to know what it takes to get your blocked funds back incase one decides not to travel again, even if the Visa gets approved.
First, i think you need to withdraw your visa application then write them (fintiba) mail stating reasons for "reversal transfer".
All you need to attach with the mail is 'an official certificate issued by the consulate where your visa application was processed, confirming that your visa application has been rejected or withdrawn'

Until the 10th day of March 2016‎ when the unfortunate accident that took away his Spine ( and threatening to take away his life if not urgently helped) happened; the 25years old Lawal Adedipupo Hafiz was an healthy active undergraduate of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) studying Meteorology.

The accident changed the course of his life, dreams and ambitions and he has been in and out of the hospital, immobile, helpless, deteriorating by decaying ( due to bed sore) and battling for his life.

For over 21 months, his very poor parents have sold everything they own to see to his treatment in the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan where professionals have been duly attending to him but sadly he keeps deteriorating as they cannot afford the PLASTIC SURGERY, STEM CELL TRANSPLANT and constant PHYSIOTHERAPY he needs to bounce back to life.

HayLaw (as fondly called) in no little way helped to project Nigeria ‎in professional light by helping to curate the largest Space Club in Africa www.spaceclubfuta.com.ng . One of the projects he assisted to build was published in The Nation's Newspaper:

winning the highest height in Nigeria.
He is also a dedicated member of the Bodija Muslim Youth Forum where he has been of great service to the community.

He needs 12Million Naira to live enough to fulfill his dreams. Please help donate to keep those dreams alive, nothing is too small... please!

SERENDIPITY!

My German hustle has being a perfect case of serendipity, as a matter fact my whole life recently as being one.

Nine months ago applied to one random school in Hamburg just for the sake of it, I mean I had a whole lot of other application decisions I was awaiting and this Hamburg application seems not to be so stressful I said. Months went by and reject mails seem to be the other of the day until I gave up on pursuing a Msc this year.
So one faithful morning in the month of June, while reclining on my office chair after another stint in the infamous Apapa traffic, I decided to check the online portal of this school in Hamburg to see if they have also uploaded my reject mail. Behold my admission letter was uploaded to the portal that very morning! I was confused! The rest is history.

Admission June 13th
Interview August 31st
Approval mail September 28th.

Hamburg Deutschland! Ich Komme!

Congrats bro success in Deutschland

Master of Science in Transportation Systems Visa Interview Transcript.

Interview date: 22nd September, 2017

Got to the embassy at exactly 5.10am and met a student visa applicant on the queue. Two more student visa applicants joined us and we became four. Mr or Pastor Paulinous eventually arrived and from his actions I could see he is a principled man, just ensure all your documents are complete and required copies are intact.

Sincerely if you calmly read every post on Nairaland German visa enquiries thread and every post on some Whatsapp groups created for this purpose you won't have a problem with him. Moreover i agree with others that the success already recorded by members of these two online platforms cannot be compared with a million agents combined together.

After the arrangement of documents at the gate I gained access to the visa section at 7.25am. I was the second student visa applicant interviewed and I met a German lady at the long term visa cubicle who attended to me and collected my visa fee plus documents. She gave me print out to cross check my data and sign.

Afterwhich she printed out some questions and gave me empty white sheets to fill my answers. They are the usual questions. visa fee: 27,000, Did biometric registration.

What & where do you want to study in Germany? Why do you want to study this course?
Why Germany? Why not study the course in Nigeria?
Why not USA/UK or other English Speaking Countries? What is your course structure? List all the courses
How have you prepared for your studies? Where will you stay?
Who is your sponsor? What he/she does & income
What will you do after studies? Stay in Germany?  Come back to Nigeria?
Do you have friends/relatives in Germany? What is the title of your bachelor's thesis?

After answering all questions on the white papers she told me to pickup the phone. Our conversation goes thus:

VO: Why do you want to study in Germany

Myself: Germany value education and invests heavily in it (stated German Academic Exchange Service a.k.a DAAD as an instance) at low cost and its effective transportation systems (related to my intended course) and I stated Germany has an energy efficient major economy

VO: Why Germany? Other Countries like USA, UK, France also have effective transportation systems

Myself: I laid emphasis on Germany's rail transportation system (my intended professional field) which is one of the best in the world.

VO: Yes, Nigeria's transportation systems need more professionals to revive it.

Myself: I supported the assertion by telling her it's the reason i'm focusing on becoming a planner in the rail transport sector.

VO: Good (she raised her thumb up)

Myself: Danke (Thank you)

VO: What do you know about Germany? (I stated it's a federal parliamentary republic whose national election (Bundestag and Chancellor) comes up every 4 years, its population, its bicameral legislature (Bundestag and Bundesrat), bordered by 9 schengen area countries (i mentioned all).

VO: How many states are in Germany

Me: 16 states ( I mentioned all and the uniques features they have)

VO: Do you have relatives or friends in Germany

Myself: (answered)

VO: Who is your sponsor?

Myself: (I answered)

VO: Their monthly incomes

Myself: (stated them)

VO: Good, that's all you will be contacted by email

Myself: danke.

VO: Bitte.

I really appreciate everyone who guided me knowingly or unknowingly (via posts or comments online), most especially members of Studiere Intellekt, Nigerian Scholars TUM and DE Traume Whatapp groups. I also extend my utmost appreciation to nairaland members who contribute on German Visa enquiries thread.

We shall all succeed in the Deutschland. I supplicate that everyone still awaiting admission shall receive it soonest, those awaiting interview date will meet the favour of the VOs, those of us awaiting Approval Mails shall receive them in Joy and every Nigerian already in Germany shall succeed in their endeavors.

God Bless you all!

PapTzy:
Good morning House,

I am scheduled to have a Skype interview next week Thursday for MSc. Transportation Systems at TUM.

Please is there anyone with helpful information or tips regarding what to expect?
I would really appreciate your inputs.

Thanks in anticipation.

MSc Transportation System...we are in the same shoe but I have been admitted and enrolled. I'll drop a guide on how the interview will be graded. if you want the PDF just PM me. I can't post all here because it's voluminous but for the benefit of others on this platform I'll post the needed part for the aptitude Interview for MSc Transportation systems as stated in the Pdf.

The aptitude interview is held individually for each applicant. The interview lasts at least 20 minutes and 30 minutes at maximum. Contents of the interview are the following main topics:

1. The exceptional motivation and commitment for the Master of Science Program in Transportation Systems pursuant to the criteria mentioned in no. 2.3.3 for the evaluation of the motivation letter,
Note: Just like @ dejx rightly said...Ensure you understand your motivation letter, the one you wrote during your application for admission.

2. Reflecting own talents and skills and connecting them with the objectives of the Master’s program – with regards to the offered fields of study (specialization) within the Master’s program,

3. Explanations about the topic of the final thesis of the Bachelor’s program.

4. Basic and implementation-related questions from the field of transportation engineering for evaluation of the technical qualifications.

My advice: If you are for 17/18 winter session...after the interview, result out and you're admitted. immediately you get a congratulatory mail on admission, ensure you mail the school about the visa appointment issue at German consulate in Nigeria. Just in case the embassy refuses to give out more appointment dates for 17/18 winter admissions, you can defer the admission in order not to loose the opportunity.

Help please!!!

I just got my opening confirmation of blocked account from Fintiba, so I sent mail to book for appointment immediately, only for me to get an immediate reply.

My own mail:

The German Consulate,
Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to book an appointment for student visa interview, I have been admitted at the Technical University of Munich in the graduate program Masters of Science in Nutrition and Biomedicine (winter semester 2017/2018) whose enrollment dealine is 17th November 2017.

Attached herewith are the letter of admission, opening confirmation of blocked account and my passport data page.

I would like to request you to consider my application and grant me an appointment date. Thank you.

Yours Sincerely,

Their reply:

Dear Sir,

Please note that the Consulate General is already completely booked out in September. We are therefore unable to grant you an appointment date as the processing time of a student visa takes up to at least 5 weeks. You are welcome to reapply for the next semester. Further enquiries concerning your current letter of admission cannot be answered.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely yours,

Visa Section

Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Lagos

15, Walter Carrington Crescent

Victoria Island, Lagos

Federal Republic of Nigeria

Then I sent this:

Dear Sir,

I want to request that you kindly consider my application and grant me an appointment date as the enrollment deadline for the program is November
17th which is a later date than the date written on your website ("...Hence only students with enrolment deadline from November 15th, as well as scholarship holders would get appointment dates."wink.

Thank you for your kind consideration

Yours sincerely

Please what else should I do?

NB: A quick response is highly appreciated, thank you

I also experienced this on Tuesday. Resend them another mail quoting this link:

https://www.tum.de/en/studies/application-and-acceptance/dates-and-deadlines/dates-and-deadlines-17/

also ensure you write that TUM doesn't state their enrollment deadline on the admission letter.

I hope this helps.

Education / #fundlautechproject: Why We Must Support The Cause by Nairadean(m): 9:19am On Jun 22, 2017
If the Federal Government is reluctant to take over LAUTECH and the two state governments care less about the future of students on the verge of jeopardy and the well-being of staffers on red-alert. We the masses (the victims) won't sit back and fold arms.

We support the #fundLAUTECHproject provided it won't be politicized but directed to address the issue at hand ( reviving LAUTECH and restoring its glory).

Donate towards the cause...some philanthropists have been contributing to meet the target of 1billion Naira in 90 days spare-headed by LAUTECH Alumni.

So far, according to the website for donation on the image below or above, they have realised close to 1.5 million and in addition to the 5.8million recently donated by Senator Rasheed Ladoja and Accord lawmakers according to Tribune news. This denotes there is progress.

KEEP SHARING THIS TO GET THE CONSENT AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF MORE NIGERIAN PHILANTHROPISTS.

Undergraduates and JAMBites: Benefits of Earning Professional Certification

First and foremost, I will briefly dwell on benefits of earning professional certification as an undergraduate (of Polytechnic, University, College of education) and a Secondary school graduate (Admission seekers).

No doubt, after writing and passing the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) the next is to apply for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in order to gain admission into tertiary institution.

Eventually not all JAMB candidates scale through the cut-off marks. The unfortunate ones end up sitting home idle till the following year.

Using ATSWA (Supervised by ICAN) professional certification as an instance. Students who crave interest in Accounting or finance related professions fit in for the programme provided they have their O-level results (at least 5 credits, English and Maths inclusive).

The benefits of this certification (Accounting Technician Scheme West Africa ATSWA) are:

1.You already become a junior accountant (certified)

2.You can utilize it to gain admission via direct entry into 200level in Tertiary institutions.

3.You can work with it.

4.You will be exempted from some courses at the professional level of ICAN examination.

5.It will prepare you adequately for ICAN professional exam.

6.It's recognized across West Africa.

FOR UNDERGRADUATES AND GRADUATES, BELOW ARE THE 10 BENEFITS

~ By John Reiling

Is it worth putting in all of the work? Consider these benefits of earning a certification, and if you see the benefits for your situation, go for it!

1. A differentiator against the competition. When employers are interviewing, the competition is often stiff. If you have the certification, and the other person does not, you are at a definite advantage.

2. Plugs you into two new communities: one that is earning the certification, and one that has the certification. For example, if you are going for your PMP certification, you will immediately have something in common with other hopefuls, and this can provide networking opportunities through classes, the web, and meetings. The same holds true when you have earn the certification; you are a member of the "club." While these are benefits of PMP certification, the same would hold true of most certifications.

3. Gives you confidence that you have "passed through the chairs." When you have set your sights on a goal, put together a plan, work hard, and you reach it, you gain confidence, which spills over into all aspects of your life.

4. Gives you tools to draw upon when needed. Having gone through all of the study and hard work, you have mastered a new body of knowledge. Put it to use as soon as you can!

5. While it is said that "experience is the greatest teacher," a certification "rounds you out." Often, experience is strong in some areas, but not in others. Like education, experience rounds you out, giving exposure to ideas and approaches outside your comfort zone. In addition, being able to think outside your experience is an ingredient of leadership.

6. You can be a better mentor. The ability to mentor is based greatly on experience, but the best mentors can reach beyond their experience. They are able to extrapolate from their experience, and relate it to someone else's entirely different experience.

7. Establishes you as a continuous learner. Employers are always looking for people who never want to stop learning. Learning is a value unto itself, and those around you will respect and admire you for it, and sometimes even be a little jealous!

8. Will enable you to make more money. Often, earning a certification, such as the PMP, can quickly lead to compensation increases of 20% and more.

9. Enables you to better evaluate the talents and skills of others. With the discipline to master the material for the certification, you are in a better position to evaluate the skills of others. You have had the opportunity to evaluate your own strengths and weaknesses in the process of earning the certification, and have a broader understanding of the skills and toolsets that can be effective.

10. Gets your foot in the door in the new area. Many career changers turn to certifications to get themselves into a new area. For example, many technical people who want to advance will earn the PMP certification in order to move into a position of greater responsiability.

Politics / Enough Is Enough: Between The New Mega Party And A National Youth Party by Nairadean(m): 5:57am On Feb 16, 2017
By Fatola Abdullahi...

Going by a civil and peaceful revolt to liberate Nigerian masses, particularly the youths, from the poverty induced relegation and financial incapacitation posed by some ruling class since 3rd Republic, the forthcoming general elections in 2019 will be another avenue that determines the fate of our liberty.

Enough have been seen and heard on the looting of our collective struggle and hustle. Funds capable of alleviating the hardships faced by common man are being gifted out to some ruling class by the same calibre of politicians. The astonishing part is that many of the looters' extended families and neighbours in their hometown are suffering and living a low life while billions of naira are stocked in their bunkers and soakaway pits at unpredictable locations.

The New Mega Party Have Nothing Unique To Offer

In the last quarter of year 2016, a party was founded and named Action Democratic Party (ADP) and it was said to be promoted by aggrieved leaders of the APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, revealed vanguard news. It's obvious most politicians involved in the proposed mega party are the same set of personalities who dumped Nigeria in abject poverty. Regardless, we can't ignore the existence of the minority who possess integrity and reputable personalities.

Imagine a former Ekiti Governor, Segun Oni, aspiring for the same office in 2018, Atiku Abubakar (former Vice President) aiming at the presidency come 2019, Governor Fayose of Ekiti still looking forward to becoming Nigeria's president in future and even the incumbent president eyeing a second term with his health status.

We should not be caught unaware if James Ibori, Bode George, Femi-Fanikayode, Andrew Yakubu and many others disclose their intentions to run for presidency or senate in the nearest future. The ruling class can not remain in the realm of power as public office holders, politicians or godfathers while the youths sit back and anticipate an agenda geared towards improving their standard of living.

An instance is the Social Investment Program of this regime which some observed and forecast as a failing agenda. The program, which comprise of N-Power scheme for empowerment and Conditional cash transfer for poor and less privileged Nigerians, will in the long-run liberate young Nigerians from financial incapacitation if successfully executed as planned, continuously for decades with improvement.

The bitter-truth is that some ruling class among civil servants and politicians will frustrate the Investment Program because the financial freedom of youths is a threat to some politicians' agenda of exploiting the joblessness and lawlessness of young Nigerians, knowing that "an idle hand is the devil's workshop". Poverty, Joblessness and hopelessness are the weakness of today's youth.

A National Youth Party Is Not Better But Prefered

A National Youth Party established by youths may not be better than the new mega party orchestrated by the old ones when gauged with the personalities or integrity of their to-be members, stucking us between "the devil and the deep blue sea". Nevertheless, those proposing the later (mega party) have been tested and failed leaving us with the former, the Youth Party.

In the course of survival, many of the younger generation, have fallen victim of being lured into illegitimate activities by the politicians as a result of the widespread poverty and idleness amidst Nigerian youths. Howbeit, it's still believed that the heart of patriotism exists in majority of the youths.

The recent "I stand with Nigeria" protest corroborates the said youth patriotism as the 2019 election may not be business as usual. It's expected that the ruling class in power till present will emerge flag bearers again for either the All Progressive Congress, Peoples Democratic Party or the proposed mega party. The ball is in our court if we intend to remain in abject poverty and low standard of living or we are set for the liberation of common man.

Therefore, floating a National Party for youths will mitigate possible violent revolt that may arise should the state of the nation by the end of year 2018 ceases to "change" for the best as promised. The facilitators, officials and sponsors of the party must be youths. Even though our constitutions only give room for particular age limits to be elected into any arm and tier of Government, we must endeavor to source for youths within the age brackets having reputable personalities, background and leadership experience to serve as flagbearers and frontiers for the party.
