@Reka, I can see you are severely challenged grammatically and comprehension is not your forte so I will help you. @ladijaiye is trying to help you by suggesting you give more detail on the property you have for sale and be clear with your use of certain words to describe your property. An apartment becomes more pleasing if one could take its immediate surrounding into consideration and so the exact floor is of utmost importance. Others may read your advert to be that of a bungalow commonly described as an apartment when similarity in internal layout is considered. @Reka be a good sport and beef up your game because we Nairalanders are a sophisticated bunch and we don't suffer fools gladly! In a nutshell - Your advert is unclear and is as good as useless because basic information is not present. A picture is better than a thousand words. @Reka - before you start crying rape or something I want to point out to you that illiteracy is not a disease it can be cured with education. |

I've attached the PDF report for all to read, what does this mean for us customers and/or investors? Proshareng.com mentioned the report all but in name, what are they afraid of? In my humble opinion it’s obvious that proshareng.com is a toothless coward that refuses to report the truth. Isn't it about time timely and important facts getting to the average Nigerian investor but no, what actually happens is that our nepotism tendencies come to play. Only this time is not based on tribe but the ineffective and morally bankrupt stockbroker community and those who feed off it; proshareng.com included. http://www.theafricareport.com/images/pdf/17/TAR17_7.pdf Strong • Diamond Bank • First Bank • GTBank • Skye Bank Assessment: Thriving, may be in a position to profit from the crisis Satisfactory • Afribank • Citibank Nigeria • Equatorial Trust Bank • Fidelity Bank • Platinum Habib Bank • Stanbic IBTC • Standard Chartered Nigeria Bank • United Bank of Africa • Zenith Bank Assessment:Some have margin lending issues but all will survive Shaken • Access Bank • Ecobank Nigeria • First City Monument Bank • Intercontinental Bank • Oceanic Bank • Sterling Bank • Union Bank Assessment: Serious governance issues need urgent attention Stressed • First Inland Bank • Spring Bank (pending takeover appeal) • Unity Bank • Wema Bank Assessment: On the ropes, will either sink or be swallowed |
Why is it so difficult to know where the estate is? it seems all the land sold in the mowe/ofada axis is obfuscated (To make so confused or opaque as to be difficult to perceive or understand). If the land is in mowe/ofada then say so in the subject title, so I won't have to waste my time opening the post. I think the moderator should insist that the location be mentioned in the title so its clear to those looking for area specific property or land. ![]() Regards, Alhaji |

Stupidity knows no bounds! Culled from SILICON ALLEY INSIDER Facebook is arguably one of the safer corners of the Internet, with fairly complex security and privacy controls. But when passwords get busted, even on Facebook, not everyone is whom they're pretending to be. Like a Nigerian scammer, posing only slightly convincingly as one of your real-life friends, trying to get you to send them a $900 wire transfer. A former university colleague ("Evan" passed along this Facebook conversation, which he promises really happened to him. In it, a scammer takes over one of his real-world friend's accounts ("Calvin" , pretends to be stranded in London, and asks for money to get a plane ticket and pay hotel bills. We've asked Facebook about how common these types of scams are -- one made the rounds last November -- and what they do about them. (Update: Facebook response below.) In the meantime, a friendly reminder to be skeptical on the Internet, even when you think you're talking to someone you've known for years. Calvin: hey Evan: holy moly. what's up man? Calvin: i need your help urgently Evan: yes sir Calvin: am stuck here in london Evan: stuck? Calvin: yes i came here for a vacation Calvin: on my process coming back home i was robbed inside the hotel i loged in Evan: ok so what do you need Calvin: can you loan me $900 to get a return ticket back home and pay my hotel bills Evan: i think so. that really sucks Calvin: can you loam me now Evan: well maybe i don't know that's a lot of $ Calvin: how can you loan me? Evan: what do you want me to do Calvin: i want you to loan me $900 Calvin: i promise i pay you back Evan: how do you want me to loan it to you? Calvin: you can have the money send via western union Evan: oh yeah that's true Calvin: will you go and send it now Evan: well i don't know Calvin: you can have it send online now www.westernunion.com Evan: damn how did you get stuck there Calvin: i came here for a vacation and i was robbed by some gang Evan: ok well i want to help you, since we're friends Calvin: ok. Thanks Evan: sure thing man Evan: ok one question Calvin: are you sending it now? Evan: what was the name of our high school mascot? Evan: hello? Evan: cal? Calvin: Shawnee Mission Northwest High '01 Evan: what? i know Calvin: it seems you dont to help Evan: what of course i do want to help Calvin: am in a hot sits here and you asking me silly question Evan: what is hot sits Calvin: am dead here Evan: i hope you die there YOU soiler good luck finding someone stupid bye now (a few minutes later) Evan: oh wait. i just realized what an idiot you are and its actually kind of funny Calvin: are you not dead Evan: who taught you english? Calvin: my sister# Evan: your english is bad it does not sound like the english of someone from the us so no one will believe you Calvin: how can you teach me Evan: ok i will. but you have to send me $900. Calvin: they dont send western union here we only receive Evan: what country are you in? Calvin: nigeria Evan: i have bad news for you many americans know about nigerians sending emails to this country to try to get money Calvin: yes Evan: it is a trick that we know about so we are very careful Calvin: eeeeeeeeeeeeh Evan: you will not find a stupid person to send you money Calvin: i have got some Evan: well good job Evan: do you live in lagos or in another city? Calvin: Lagos how did you got to know Evan: i am a student of the world i would like to travel to lagos Calvin: lagos is a place to be to visit so full of enjoyment so when are you coming Evan: why do you steal money from people? Calvin: i need money for my college fees but i wanna stop i promise i will stop but you people slave us during the 60s Evan: we did not have slaves in the 60s Calvin: but you about the slave trade Evan: yes that is true but slaves have been illegal here for almost 150 years Calvin: i can see that you ae a law student why can't you become a lawyer Evan: i will be a lawyer in 2 years when i finish school Calvin: ok Evan: how old are you? Calvin: 27 i need work i eed a god job Evan: there are many nigerians in america do you know anyone who has gone to another country? Calvin: i know there many nigerian that is in america i want to come to america to complte my education Evan: maybe i will visit someday i hope you don't steal any more money good luck finding a job Calvin: sure, you will love it Evan: what is your name? Calvin: tunde Evan: i must go tunde be well my friend Calvin: cant we be friend can you add me on your facebook friends Evan: i am sorry, but due to the odd circumstances of our initial greeting, i must terminate this relationship. i hope you understand. Calvin: am sorry for that evan Evan: as am i, tunde as am i Update: Facebook responds. As expected, this isn't too common. We're using this data to quickly surface compromised accounts, ideally before the spammers have gotten very far. When we find compromised accounts or they are brought to our attention, we're working to make sure the accounts get back to their rightful owners as soon as possible. First, we are disabling the account because, in some cases, the spammer has added a new contact email address and removed the old one. We then ask that the rightful owner to contact our user operations team via this contact form: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=account_compromised. Lawyer, watch out for an email from me soon. |
My guy, if you are determined to go thru all that danger then why don't you use the same determination to get a job or training for a job. Where ever you go, you require skills to earn a living; concentrate on getting the skills needed instead ot chasing a mirage. On the other hand if you don spoil ground for ogodo nigeria and you insist on "checking out" why don't you build a sea-faring boat(maximum 1-2 years) and sail to your destinately in style! You could also post your intended route on facebook! And nairaland of course. |
I have been following Virgin's increasingly predatory business style with interest. Branson is obviously pissed off with Nigeria but, I'm sure Nigeria can echo the same! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Story culled from FT: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/ceb26f6e-6e17-11dd-b5df-0000779fd18c.html Virgin in talks to sell out of Nigeria By Matthew Green in Lagos Published: August 19 2008 19:00 | Last updated: August 19 2008 20:00 Virgin Atlantic is in talks to sell its 49 per cent stake in Virgin Nigeria, which it set up in 2005, following an increasingly acrimonious dispute with the Nigerian government over the location of the loss-making west African carrier’s domestic operations. Sir Richard Branson, president of the UK longhaul carrier, on Tuesday accused the authorities of using “Mafioso-style” tactics to force Virgin Nigeria to move services from the international terminal in Lagos, the commercial capital. “It is regrettable that events have caused us to review our shareholding and whether it is appropriate that the Virgin brand should remain linked to Virgin Nigeria,” Sir Richard said. Virgin Nigeria was hailed as a symbol of investor confidence in Nigeria when it was set up by Virgin Atlantic and Nigerian institutional investors, in part to meet demand for a reliable carrier given the country’s poor record for air safety. Virgin Atlantic claims that the government reneged on a deal signed under Olusegun Obasanjo, the previous president, that let it use the international terminal for all services. The administration of Umaru Yar’Adua, who took power in May last year, says Virgin Nigeria’s claim is not legally valid. Virgin Atlantic’s criticism echoes accusations by companies including Royal Dutch Shell and Mittal Group, which accuse the government of tearing up contracts signed under its predecessor. Mr Yar’Adua’s officials say his administration is only reversing deals in which foreign companies tried to exploit the country and is committed to promoting investment. Sir Richard claimed thugs were sent to smash up Virgin Nigeria’s domestic lounge this year. “The behaviour of the authorities was similar to the way the Mafioso behaved in the US in the 1930s and not what I would have expected from the authorities in Nigeria,” he said. “If Virgin Nigeria can be treated in this way, can any company in the world seriously consider investing in Nigeria in the future?” Aviation authorities forced Virgin Nigeria to relocated domestic flights from the international terminal at the Murtala Muhammed airport in the past week. The airline says a court appeal against the decision is pending. Virgin Atlantic said it had been in talks with potential purchasers for its stake in Virgin Nigeria for several weeks. Virgin Nigeria says it needs to operate both international and regional services from the same terminal to ensure smooth services for transit passengers. When Virgin Nigeria was created in 2005, it was seen by the Virgin group as a potential model for its aviation interests in developing countries. The group has airline interests in the UK, Australia, the US, Belgium and Malaysia. |

Abuja based lawyer required for land transfer transaction |
When travelling to Nigeria I prefer flying direct from Heathrow, this narrows my choice of airline to just Virgin Atlantic and BA. For the extra leg room I’m usually advised to travel is as large a sit as possible which for Virgin Atlantic and BA I usually book their Premium Economy seats. Recently, I got an email from Virgin Atlantic promising their “WorldBeaters” seat sale, as to my dismay I note that of the several offers none were for flights to Nigeria. Thinking back, I’ve never seen or heard of any kind of promotion from, Click Here to Read More, |
“Really? You don’t look/talk like a Muslim o!” Salam alaekum, I hope you will take a moment to read and reflect on the issues in this email. Take a second to think about the title of this email, I am sure a lot of you on this list have got this sort of response from people in the past when you declared your faith. I used to dismiss this response as a sign of ignorance until recently, I am now beginning to think that this response is not due to ignorance but perhaps due to the fact that Muslims like you and I who have ‘a little extra” have done practically nothing to ‘lift up’ our fellow brothers and sisters who make up a significant portion of the poor Nigerians, so these responders get used to seeing so many ‘poor and battered Muslims’ that it actually surprises them when they meet one who is well educated, comfortable and has a reasonably okay life. In the past three days, I have had two separate discussions about the Federation of Muslim Women Association (FOMWAN) School in Alimosho Lagos and the NITEL staff school in Oshodi, Lagos . And my take away has been that we HAVE to do something to make “being a Muslim child in Nigeria equal good education and great opportunities.” A couple of months ago, I sent an email to 150+ Muslims asking for a PC for the FOMWAN School, I got 5 responses back but not one fulfilled promise to date. The school is now risking losing their temporary location and cannot raise the N3.5 million needed to acquire a new piece of land to build its permanent location. The NITEL staff school in Oshodi is up for sale, asking price is N120m and some “concerned non Muslim parents” have begun rallying to raise funds to buy it, where does this leave the Muslims and their kids ![]() ![]() How do you convince a muslim kid from a poor home who has no furniture in his/her class, no text books and no computer knowledge in 2007 that s/he should hold her head up high and that s/he can compete on a level playing field with another child whose got all that and much more? So what happens now that you have heard my whining? You are thinking that all these are beyond your financial power? You close this email and go back to status quo? Forward it to your friends so that you can merely satisfy your conscience that though you can’t give anything, you have told someone? I hope you don’t do any of these, instead I pray you do the following: 1. Think about one little thing you can do now and on a recurring basis. If you have an old PC, give it to the FOMWAN School , you will be giving a Muslim child ‘room to compete in this new IT world. 2. Do you have any spare change that can help FOMWAN secure a permanent location for the school? It does not matter how much it is, whatever you give will reduce the amount we are looking for. 3. Think about these issues as your problem and not the problem of ‘others.’ The prophet Muhammad (SAW) said a Muslim must want for his brothers what he wants for himself. So ask yourself if your child or relation can attend the FOMWAN School as it is now or what would happen if you had a child in the NITEL School that is up for sale. 4. Get your local group involved: Let your masjid, group of Muslim coworkers /friends /family to commit to doing something. If you don’t have N1,000 to give, but you know someone who can, talk to them about this. And commit to encouraging them to do something. 5. Use your voice: Forward this information to your list serve, news magazine, blogs etc. Get the word out! 6. Join United for Kids Foundation (www.unitedforkidsfoundation.org), when you send your donations, instruct us to use it for the FOMWAN school projects. We are currently sourcing for funds to make some chairs/desks for the school, your donation will go a long way in making this and future projects a reality. Finally, remember that one of the things that will help a Muslim after his death is the knowledge s/he has helped others to acquire, so when you reach out to the FOMWAN School or the kids at the NITEL staff school, you are making an investment for your life after death. For more information email sariyuola@yahoo. co.uk (FOMWAN Lagos Amirah), unitedforkids@ gmail.com, teslim_b@yahoo. com ( NITEL School sales) or temitopef@yahoo. com. May Allah reward you. Ma-asalam, Ganiyah Tope Fajingbesi Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet () said, "Two angels descend every morning, and one says: `O Allah, give him who spends something, in place of what he spends.' The other one says: `O Allah, give destruction to him who withholds". Every Donation Counts! |

Our father told us on a harmattan morning. Outside the dining room window, the wind was cold and dry, the whistling pine was swaying, a cock was chasing a squawking hen, the red dust was rising and our mother’s spirit was dancing in its whirls. My brother Chuma and I, lips smeared with Vaseline, were playing scrabble at the dining table and listening to Celestine Ukwu on the stereo. A drop of pap, which had not been cleaned off after our breakfast of akamu and akara, had become a hard-dried smudge on the table mat. I remember the details of that morning well because this way I don’t have to remember our father’s exact words as he told us that he and Aunty Ife were getting married and we would all be moving with her to Lagos. Chuma and I stared at him. We were not surprised about the marriage, far from it; we had followed the courtship for six years. Our father took us to her house every Sunday for lunch. She made something she called Fruit Crumble Pie, when she piled sliced mangoes and oranges and cinnamon on a flat piece of dough and baked it until her whole house smelled edible. She collected tiny animal figurines, the ones that came in Elephant detergent cartons, and she arranged them all over her dining table; and so in addition to lecture notes and hardcover books, we had to move aside plastic blue rhinos and giraffes to make room for our plates. Her hallway was so full of potted plants it looked like a garden and sometimes, snails and caterpillars wiggled on the floor, next to the cartons of toilet soap and dried milk. She took those cartons to the Motherless Babies Home on Saturdays. Chuma and I went with her sometimes. “Hold the children as if you know them,” she would say, before we went into the room full of tattered toddlers and screaming babies. Aunty Ife was perhaps our father’s age and had never married, but on her shelves were photos of nephews and nieces and children of friends, with birthdays scrawled on the cardboard frames. Mine and Chuma’s had been displayed shortly after we met her. We stayed with her whenever our father went away to a conference. It was on one such visit that Chuma hit me on the stomach and as I screamed, Aunty Ife came into the room, roughly pushed me towards Chuma and said, “Fight for yourself! Hit him back!” At first, I was too startled to do anything, then I hit Chuma in the stomach and he was too startled to hit back. I do not remember Chuma ever hitting me again. We liked Aunty Ife. We liked that she wore billowy adire boubous and never tried to be our mother and always humoured the stories our father told us about our mother’s spirit being in the wind, in the rainbow, in the growing grass. We liked that her hair was a natural afro and that she could argue loudly with our father, both of them professors of political science, and that her name Ifeadigo meant “Light Has Come” and that her presence in our lives was a light about which she was entirely unselfconscious although we were of course not aware of this at the time. We liked her. And so we were not sad that she and our father were finally getting married – it was not the reason we stared silently when he told us. The reason was that we would move to Lagos. That we would leave Nsukka. I am sitting on a New York to Lagos flight now, Read More, |

You guys are too much! So the Grand Cherokee is out, so is it the 2001 Toyota 4Runner or 2001 Nissan Pathfinder? |
sultaan, would you recommend the 2001 Grand Cherokee for Lagos?, my reasoning is that the Grand Cherokee is a full time 4X4 and is best suited for Nigeria. Do you agree? My current 2005 C class kompressor is useless on roads in surulere and the mainland in general. Potholes have wrecked all my alloy wheels, total useless in Nigeria. |
