TV/MoviesBbnaija: Omashola Wins Veto Power Game by nairapark(op): 1:25pm On Sep 09, 2019
Omashola Oburoh has won this week’s veto power of chance in the ongoing BBNaija season four.
With this card, he gets to save and replace himself if he is put up for eviction.

Omashola can also decide to give another housemate the privilege and put himself up for eviction.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that Omashola clinched the card on Sunday night, shortly after Venita’s eviction.

The challenge, which was the fastest so far in the game, saw Omashola win 100 Bet9ja coins and the save-and-replace privilege that comes with the position.

The challenge was a simple one of unlocking a padlock from one steel wire mesh and placing the unlocked padlock on a stool next to the table of keys.

There were 33 padlocks locked on the steel wire mesh with their keys placed randomly on the table.

All the housemates were asked to do was pick one and open a padlock. The Game did not go long as expected as Omashola unlocked a padlock in record time.

Although Omashola was the first to unlock his padlock, he was closely followed by Mercy and Ike.

The Icy pair (Ike and Mercy) have been doing quite well in house games recently. They both competed fiercely to jointly win the current Head of House title.

Following his win, an excited Omashola, who escaped eviction on Sunday, shouted, “I get another week in the House.”

CrimeJAMB: 19-year-old Arrested For Falsifying UTME Score by nairapark(op): 9:55am On Sep 09, 2019
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has handed over a 19-year-old female candidate, Rejoice Mordi, to the police in Abuja, for allegedly falsifying her 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination score from 164 to 264.
The candidate confessed to JAMB officials that she got the fake UTME result from an agent, identified only as Iyanuoluwa via Whatsapp.

Our correspondent learnt that Mordi was arrested at JAMB headquarters, Bwari, Abuja, on Tuesday, when she went in company with her father to lodge a complaint that JAMB gave her two result slips.
Officials of the board said on Sunday that the candidate, who hails from Delta State, alleged that she met the agent who collected her registration number and those of three other candidates.

The agent later sent a fake UTME result to Mordi’s mobile telephone.

The board confirmed that it had handed over the candidate to the police for further investigations and prosecution.

Speaking about the incident in its bulletin on Sunday, JAMB said, “The 19-year-old who falsified her 2019 UTME result from 164 to 264 had petitioned us for (allegedly) giving her two results in the 2019 UTME. The board, upon receipt of the complaint, invited the candidate who appeared before the board in company of her father, Frank Emordi.

“The Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, read the riot act to the petitioner and her father and gave them a grace period to retrace their steps, knowing that there is forensic analysis that she falsified the score.

“Upon the expiration of the opportunity, after thorough examination of the evidence, the candidate owned up to her misdeeds. She said the agent sent the inflated result to her through a Whatsapp group which she had deleted.

“Checks by the board revealed that the candidate had made three successful attempts at checking her result. However, on the candidate’s dashboard, 164 score still remained. She had since been handed over to security agents for further interrogation.”

The candidate’s father appealed to the registrar, saying, “I talked to her (Rejoice) and she said a guy she met at the centre collected her registration number and three of her friends.

“The man was the one who forwarded the results to them through Whatsapp. If she had informed me about that, I would not have followed her to the JAMB office.”

PoliticsOver 90 Kwara Public Property Illegally Acquired, Says Abdulrazaq by nairapark(op): 9:49am On Sep 09, 2019
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has said over 90 properties built with public funds were unlawfully appropriated by some officials of the past administration.

AbdulRazaq, according to a statement on Sunday, said the revelations came from the report of the Senator Sulaiman Ajadi committee which he had set up to probe the handling of public assets since 1999.
“The committee submitted two reports and we are waiting for the final report. It is unfortunate that from my little reading of it so far, people just shared government property as if it was theirs.

“For example, you give property to Harmony Holdings to invest on behalf of the state as trust and those in Harmony Holdings just shared the property among themselves, even selling below the valuation prices. Even those in government did the same thing. There is a new layout called New GRA, none of them went there to build new houses because it was cheaper to pick government houses for next to nothing rather than build their own houses,” AbdulRazaq said.

The governor also said he had set up a 15-member committee to undertake a comprehensive assessment and recommendation of the Kwara State Social Assessment Vulnerable Indicator Parameters – a key part of AbdulRazaq’s plan to clean up the state and ward off environmental disasters.

The committee, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, is to be chaired by former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Raliat Elelu, while the Secretary is Shuaib AbdulGaniyu, an assistant director in the Governor’s Office.

PoliticsEven Our Enemies Agree Yahaya Bello Has Done Well- Oshiomhole by nairapark(op): 12:42pm On Sep 06, 2019
Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, has done well in the state more than his predecessors.
Speaking on Thursday during a meeting of the national working committee at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, Oshiomhole said the governor’s performance in three years is beyond what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the state achieved for 13 years.

The party chairman asked residents of the state to support the governor for another term in order to continue his infrastructural programmes.
“Bello did not only inherit salary arrears from his predecessors which he had defrayed but also inherited burdens of infrastructure, projects approved and money paid but were not executed and the governor is doing all such projects today,“ he said.

”Even our party’s enemies will agree with us that Yahaya Bello has done well in the area of security. If the people are not secured, no meaningful development can take place.

”I have people who live in Kogi State and we all know the level of insecurity in that state before. But today you can all agree with me that the current governor has addressed the issue of security in Kogi.”

Oshiomhole also noted that other aspirants who lost at the primary election to Bello have agreed to work with the governor.

“We have had an extensive conversation as APC family to touch issues that arose from the primaries in Kogi,” he said.

”Aspirants have spoken their minds and we have heard them as national working committee of the party.

”I am glad to let you know that all our aspirants including those that were disqualified and those that contested and lost, have agreed to work with Governor Yahaya Bello, who is the APC flag bearer.”

Apart from music, the 36-year-old has appeared in several Hollywood films and has her own radio show.

It was not clear whether or not the post was serious, a plea for attention, or, as the second sentence suggests, an act of spite toward naysayers.

In August, she said on her Queen Radio show that she and boyfriend Kenneth Petty will be married “in 80 days.”

After releasing a string of mixtapes in the 2000s, Nicki Minaj joined Drake on Lil Wayne’s record label Young Money Entertainment.

Her debut album Pink Friday came out in 2010 and has since released mega-hits like ‘Super Bass’, ‘Anaconda’ and ‘Starships’, which established her as one of the world’s biggest female rappers.

Her solo albums have sold millions as well as her collaborations with Ludacris, Usher, David Guetta, Madonna, Ariana Grande, Kanye West and Justin Bieber.

She has been nominated for ten Grammys, won five MTV Video Music Awards and broken the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries by a solo female artist.

Away from music, her film appearances include ‘The Other Woman’ and ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’.

PoliticsI Will Celebrate Achievements, Not 100 Days, Says Gov Abiodun by nairapark(op): 11:20am On Sep 05, 2019
The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday, said he would not celebrate 100 days in office but would rather share his achievements with the people of the state on Friday.
Abiodun, who said he did not believe in celebration of the milestone, said the period would be used to share his performance within the first 100 days in office.

Speaking at the state’s free medical screening initiative held at Ilishan High School, in Ikenne, the governor said he had spent his first 100 days to lay a foundation for his vision, tagged, ‘Building our Future Together.”
Abiodun, who spoke with journalists at the venue of the event, said his administration had put together the foundation for the agenda within the first 100 days.

He said, “I don’t know whether our administration will be marking a milestone. I think what we believe is sharing with you what we have been able to achieve in 100 days and those things are the foundation of our vision.

“As we have shared with you during the campaign, we have laid the foundation of all those things. You have started seeing them, like the roads we are constructing, the ICT, the Tech-up and so on. They will be unveiled to you in the next few days.”

On the free medical exercise, the governor said his administration was committed to preventive medicine rather than its curative aspect.

Medical experts screened residents for high blood pressure; blood sugar level; random determined malaria among others, on the occasion.

Abiodun said his administration had laid emphasis on preventive medicine because it was cheaper and also helps to detect and stop partial or permanent damage to health.

He said, “We cannot afford to allow ailments that are preventable to continue to make our people bed-ridden or take their lives.

“This is why we must continue to have health screenings and monitor the health status of our people.”

Celebrities'look-alike Model': Ariana Grande Sues Fashion Firm by nairapark(op): 11:49am On Sep 04, 2019
US pop star Ariana Grande has sued fashion retailer Forever 21 for using her trademark style to promote its products without her permission, including adverts featuring a “look-alike model.”
Grande is seeking $10 million over claims the brand, and its spin-off cosmetics line Riley Rose created an online campaign with striking similarities to her music videos, such as “7 Rings,” from late last year.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles district court Monday, claims the campaign was intended to trick consumers into believing Grande had endorsed Forever 21’s youth-oriented products.
“Even a single social media post by Ms Grande can garner fees of several hundred thousand dollars, and her longer-term endorsement arrangements command fees in the millions of dollars,” it said.

Grande has 163 million Instagram followers, making her the most-followed woman on the photo- and video-sharing social media platform.

Images from Forever 21’s Instagram account cited by the lawsuit showed a model wearing purple camouflage clothing and a pink headband and boots similar to those worn by Grande in the “7 Rings” music video.

The images appear to have been taken down from the company’s social media accounts.

A Forever 21 statement denied the allegations, adding that the fashion firm has “worked with (Grande’s) licensing company over the past two years.”

“We are hopeful that we will find a mutually agreeable resolution and can continue to work together in the future,” it added.

Bloomberg News reported last week that Forever 21 was preparing for a bankruptcy filing.

The National Assembly has said it is ready to receive the 2020 Appropriation Bill for consideration and passage.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, made the declaration at a stakeholders’ roundtable on the 2020 budget in Abuja on Tuesday.

Gbajabiamila, who was represented on the occasion by the Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase, said, “We are ready to receive the budget on or before the September 30, and to conclude legislative action on the budget before December 31, 2019, so that we can return to January-December cycle.”
The Speaker said the House was committed to reforming the key financial and industrial sectors to ensure that the government lived up to its responsibilities.

Part of the reforms, he said, was to remove regulatory and policy problems for businesses to thrive and for the economy to attract more investors.

He said, “We are determined to address the problems of our significant infrastructure deficits by funding critical infrastructure projects across the country and by working with the private sector to devise and implement effective strategies to encourage private sector investment in public works projects.

“We will revamp the national security and policing framework through the implementation of a community policing strategy that brings our citizens and our communities into an enduring partnership with the security agencies to jointly ensure that our communities are rid of the criminal elements who offer nothing of value and destroy everything we hope now and in the future to build.”

Gbajabiamila added “The power of the purse, the right and responsibility to manage government expenditure through the appropriation process is the central power of the legislature. It is this power that makes all else possible.”

He said he was confident the dialogue session would create ideas and strategies to help deliver a budget process that would be in the interest of Nigerians.

PoliticsJapan Trip: PDP Members Talking Gibberish - Adeshina by nairapark(op): 12:33pm On Sep 03, 2019
Femi Adesina, special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for saying that the president’s trip to the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development was “a poor and disgraceful outing”.
The opposition party had on Sunday alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari received poor attention from world leaders and investors at the 7th Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development.

It also said the alleged poor outing was an indication of rejection by the international community.
The party’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan who said this in a statement added, “The party describes as a national embarrassment and shame that President Buhari could not seal any meaningful economic agreement at the conference but only came home with an empty basket and pocket full of promissory notes.”

But reacting via Twitter, Adesina described members of the major opposition party as “hallucinating”

According to him, those speaking from PDP headquarters were speaking gibberish

Adesina on his official Twitter page wrote: “In PDP’s hallucinations, TICAD 7 was not a success for Nigeria since PMB came back with only ‘promissory notes.

“Did they think it was a buying and selling session? Wadata House must now be Hammer House of Horror, and anybody operating from there simply talks gibberish.”

The Nigerian Red Cross Society in Katsina has engaged 201 volunteers to assist in locating and reporting those with cases of measles and other five-related diseases in seven local government areas of the state currently having security challenges.
The other five diseases are yellow fever, cholera, polio, tetanus, and meningitis.
The NRCS Secretary in Katsina, Mallam Bala Useini, made the disclosure on Sunday during a meeting with various stakeholders in the affected local government areas.

He identified the affected councils as Sabuwa, Danmusa, Faskari, Safana, Jibia, Batsari and Kankara.

Useini explained that because of security challenges in the affected councils, many cases of the diseases had not been reported for early treatment.

He explained that the volunteers were picked from the councils because they were from the areas and had better knowledge of terrain in the councils.

He said “Every volunteer is supposed to submit community-based surveillance of such diseases on weekly and monthly basis. There should be regular sensitisation of the community informants by the Red Cross volunteers. A Red Cross volunteer should visit all community informants in his/her areas of responsibility within two weeks.

CrimeZionists Condemns Ipob's Attack, Threat On Igbo Leaders by nairapark(op): 1:06pm On Sep 02, 2019
The Biafra Zionists Federation on Sunday criticised the recent strategy adopted by the Indigenous People of Biafra to attack Igbo political leaders outside Nigeria.
Leader of the outlawed IPOB group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, had directed his members to attack Igbo leaders anywhere outside the country. He also mobilised his group to Japan, where President Muhammadu Buhari attended an event alongside other world leaders, vowing to disgrace the Nigeria President.

But in a statement, the leader of the BZF, Mr Benjamin Onwuka, said with Kanu’s approach, the international community would soon start looking at Biafra’s agitation with suspicion.
Onwuka, who stated that diplomacy with world powers, especially the United States of America, remained key to the Biafra struggle, said it was childish for anyone to dream of arresting President Buhari in Japan.

He said, “It is a wrong strategy for anyone to go to Japan under the pretext of arresting Buhari. I feel ashamed when I read what is happening in Japan.

“People should be very careful, that is why the Zionists are talking about diplomacy. People should stop doing things that will make the international community to see us as violent people. It is very dangerous.

“These people should focus on what is achievable; going to Germany to attack Ike Ekweremadu is just mocking yourself. The Fulani are the ones holding us down not Ekweremadu.”

He added, “That thing they are doing is very shameful. Look at the one they did in Japan; you are going to arrest a sitting President, how is that possible? I was educating them on the net, IPOB members said they were going to kill me.

“But the whole thing is funny. Buhari has diplomatic protection, so you can’t touch him, you can’t even go near, even a minister can’t touch him because he has a diplomatic passport. Going to Japan to make noise cannot help us.

“So, this is not the way to go, it is damaging us; it is all political propaganda which they are using to brainwash and collect money from people. All these violent protests will make the world to begin to see us as dangerous people. He is destroying our campaign; they should come and join the Zionists.”

The Biafra group equally cautioned the Nigerian government against what it called persecution of businessmen from the South.

He said, “There has been a sustained agenda to stifle businesses of Biafra people. Mr Ibeto suffered the same fate simply because of Nkalagu cement, leading to his incarceration for several months. We fought and he was released.

“Now to show that those behind this are not ready to give up, they have now faced Innoson and are now doing everything to kill his investments.”

PoliticsExplosions At Oforji Oboku, Victor Isaiah's Homes In Bayelsa by nairapark(op): 11:07am On Sep 02, 2019
Explosions were reported to have rocked the residences of two members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yenagoa at the weekend.

It was gathered that some suspected thugs working for one of the governorship aspirants outside the PDP Restoration Team threw dynamites into the houses of Oforji Oboku, a member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly representing Yenagoa Constituency One, and Victor Isaiah, the chairman of Brass Local Government Area.

The two residences were attacked early on Saturday evening by the suspected thugs whose services were procured by an aspirant who disagreed with the outcomes of the party delegates’ elections.
Both explosions have been reported to the Commissioner of Police and the state Director of the Department of State Services in Yenagoa.

Confirming the incident, Isaiah said the one that happened in his residence was reported to the police and the DSS.

According to him, the state Director of the DSS and the Commissioner of Police visited his house to confirm what actually happened.

Isaiah explained that his younger brother who was in the house during the incident said that he saw three boys around the house who made a suspicious call to confirm if the residents were in the house or not.

According to him, the explosion occurred about ten minutes after the call.

There had been fears that some aspirants who lost out in the party’s congresses could take steps to thwart the exercise as their chances of securing the governorship ticket had become very slim.

CelebritiesOnly Witches Can Take Makinwa's Advice - Fanu Omolade by nairapark(op): 9:20am On Sep 02, 2019
Popular social influencer, Fanu Omolade, popularly known as Witty Gem, has reacted to a viral video of OAP, Toke Makinwa where she (Makinwa) advised young ladies to frustrate their partners on their happiest days. Omolade said Toke who is a role model should always lay positive foundations for the next generation.
“Toke Makinwa is a role model to many young girls out there, myself included. Hearing her use the excuse of being a “Scorpio” is ridiculous. Men do not appreciate such nonsense. Any lady that follows her advice is definitely a witch,” she said.
She quoted Toke to have said, “A Scorpio chick is crazy, the kind of bitch that will piss her man off just because he is happy, why are you happy? She’ll just Bleep up his day most especially on those days he can’t afford to be pissed off, maybe he has an important meeting or he is about to close up a deal.”

Omolade expressed disappointment in Toke stating that her utterances shows how irresponsible she is and which might be the reason her marriage hit the rock in no time.

“This is very irresponsible of someone to say, especially someone who is a mentor to many young girls out there, advising them to piss their man off just because they can is ridiculous and such shouldn’t be heard from a Woman as Toke Makinwa.

“I’m highly disappointed in her but I hope she can change this narrative and apologize for her excesses, I still remain a fan, I love her style and she slays every goddamn thing, I just hope she realizes the statement she made was uncalled for and we deserve better”.

PoliticsInternational Community Has Rejected Buhari-pdp by nairapark(op): 8:54am On Sep 02, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday said the international community has rejected President Muhammadu Buhari.
It stated that the claim was confirmed by the perceived disgraceful outing and poor attention allegedly given to Buhari by world leaders and investors at the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement said the lack of attention given to Buhari in Tokyo confirmed his alleged rejection by the international community.
He said Buhari only came home with an empty basket and pocket full of promissory notes.

Ologbondiyan said, “The conference has shown that no world leader or international investors want to do any real business with Nigeria under President Buhari, mainly because of the legitimacy burden of his presidency arising from the rigging of the February 23 presidential election, as well as overt impunity, corruption, treasury looting and recklessness that pervade his administration.

“It is lamentable that while President Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress are celebrating a mere pledge of $300,000 (N108m) from the Japanese Prime Minister and a promissory note for E50m from an EU commissioner, his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Akufo-Ado, sealed a deal with automobile giant, Toyota, to immediately establish a Toyota and Suzuki manufacturing plant in Ghana with a determined timeline of August 2020 for production.

“The multinational had also signed a deal to establish a similar plant in neighbouring Ivory Coast with a Memorandum of Understanding to that effect already signed last Thursday.”

According to him, Toyota preferred Ghana because of the favourable economic climate prevailing in the country; a climate, which, he stated, had taken flight from Nigeria under Buhari.

In another statement, Ologbodiyan said Buhari had abdicated his responsibilities as the President of Nigeria.

He said, “The PDP notes with dismay that the Buhari presidency only stops at issuing condemnations, publishing commiserations and embarking on condolence visits with empty assurances, but takes no definite steps to address the situation and bring culprits to book.

“This complete failure of leadership and abdication of the statutory duties of the President indicates that the Buhari presidency has no solutions towards ensuring the security of lives and property in our nation.”

PoliticsOndo Monarch Appeals Buhari: Release Sowore by nairapark(op): 3:49pm On Aug 30, 2019
The Kalasewe of Apoi land in Ilaje local government area of Ondo state, on Friday pleaded with the Federal Government to release the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore without delay.
Kalasuwe said Sowore who is a worthy son of Apoi should be released unconditionally, adding that his arrest and continued detention portends grave danger for Nigeria’s democracy.

The publisher of SaharaReporters and convener Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria was arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Services over a planned protest tagged’ #revolutionaryNow’ scheduled for Monday, August 5, 2019 and subsequently accused of a plot to force a regime change in the country.
In a statement, Kalasuwe said the arrest was an abuse of human right to freedom, stressing that the planned ‘revolutionalNow ‘ protest could not be said to be treasonable since it was yet to be implemented before he was arrested by the DSS.

Kalasuwe , who faulted the rationale behind the arrest, said it was unfortunate that Nigerians usually forgot events and memories of the past.

He said Nigeria’s problems emanated from the military’s dictatorship and tendency to gag the press and prevent freedom of speech and expression.

The planned protest, he admitted, would have presented to Nigerians, the needed opportunity to express their feelings to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The monarch said Nigerians were entitled to express their feelings, provided the protest was peaceful and violent-free and it also represented the feelings of Nigerians.

According to him” Not everybody can have access to the presidency in Abuja. This is democracy, not militarism, where people are cowed and jailed over issues relating to their welfare.

“Sowore is an activist, and he was part of the struggle for this democracy. Therefore, he is entitled to express his feelings and that of Nigerians in a democratic setting”.

Foreign AffairsTrump's P.A Resigns Over Information Breach by nairapark(op): 12:24pm On Aug 30, 2019
Donald Trump’s personal assistant Madeleine Westerhout resigned on Thursday after she shared information about the president’s family with journalists, US media reported.
Westerhout’s unexpected departure came after Trump learned that she had talked about his family and White House matters with reporters at an off-the-record session during the president’s recent working vacation in New Jersey, The New York Times reported citing unnamed sources.

Later, other outlets — including CNN and Politico — also reported her departure citing unnamed sources.
CNN said Westerhout had failed to make clear during the interaction with journalists that her comments were off the record, and one reporter disclosed the conversation to the White House.

Westerhout’s office was in front of the Oval Office and she had been described as Trump’s “gatekeeper” in US media. She had been his personal assistant from the beginning of his presidency.

The Trump administration has been particularly sensitive about staff leaking information to the media, with the president railing against both officials and journalists over reports about the state of affairs in the White House.

The New York Times said Westerhout was now a “separated employee” and would not be allowed into the White House.

A former administration official described Trump and Westerhout’s relationship as “close”, CNN said, but added that talking about his family was “a red line”.

Westerhout was not a high-profile staffer, but her exit adds to a long list of administration officials who have quit since Donald Trump was elected president in 2016.

Orlu Elders Council has asked the Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, to prosecute his predecessor, Rochas Okorocha.
The Chairman, Francis Dike, SAN, who led a delegation to the state deputy governor, Gerald Irona, accused Okorocha of looting the state.

Dike commended the State House of Assembly and the Attorney General of the state for taking steps towards adopting the Administration of Criminal Justice Act in the state.
The elders urged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 elections, Senator Hope Uzodimma, to end his litigation against the governor in the interest of the state.

Dike said, “ Everything was done at shameless quotation of money by Okorocha and his family members. This government should be ready for probe when it leaves and that is why we ask for probe, prosecution of Okorocha and his running dogs.”

The deputy governor commended the elders for speaking out on issues concerning the state.

In a related development, there was panic at the Owerri residence of Okorocha, as boys loyal to the former governor clashed with the committee on recovery of stolen government committee.

The chairman of the recovery team, Jasper Ndubuaku, said thugs loyal to Okorocha attacked him when he led his team to recover properties belonging to the state government.

But Okorocha who responded through his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, said Ndubuaku invaded his residence with 700 thugs.

PoliticsAssembly Wants Chevron Jobs For Ondo Fire Victims by nairapark(op): 12:28pm On Aug 29, 2019
Following the oil-well fire outbreak at the Ojumole area of Ondo State in May 2019, the Ondo State House of Assembly has called on Chevron Nigeria Limited to assist the people of the affected communities by providing jobs for their youths.
The oil-well, which belongs to the CNL, was gutted by fire which affected about 10 communities in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state.

To this end, the ad hoc committee set up by the Ondo State House of Assembly to investigate the inferno met with the team from the Chevron Nigeria Limited on Wednesday to resolve the issue.
At the end of the meeting, some resolutions were made which included the clean-up of the affected communities by the oil company in line with global environmental safety regulations.

The Secretary of the Committee, Mr Benjamin Jaiyeola, read the resolutions to journalists after the meeting.

He said, “The ongoing interface between the people (of the affected communities) and Chevron should be strictly monitored to ensure that beneficiaries of all the affected communities are reached in no distant time.

“The meeting also resolved that efforts should be geared toward putting in place a permanent health facility in the affected communities and also direct Chevron to create jobs for the youths in the oil-producing communities.

“The ad hoc committee must be notified and properly informed in all major activities carried out in the affected communities and Chevron Nigeria Limited should create an administrative office in the Ilaje local Government Area as soon as possible.”

According to the resolution, Chevron should liaise with the state chairman of the board of internal revenue on the issue of arrears of taxes owed by the company and quickly report back to the committee in the next one month.

The chairman of the committee, Mr Abayomi Akinruntan, who lauded the oil company for quenching the fire promptly, urged it to do more in impacting the lives of the residents of the affected communities.

A fumigation exercise sponsored by Senator Aliyu Wamakko, who is representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has commenced at the Sokoto South Local Government Area.
The Special Assistant on media and publicly to Senator Wamakko, Bashir Mani, in a statement on Wednesday, said the exercise which would cost over N8m was inaugurated by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the council, Alhaji Bello Mainasara.

Mainasara, according to the statement, described the gesture by Wamakko, as a relief not only to the people of the area, but to the state as a whole.

The chairman extolled the efforts of the Senator for coming up with the exercise, which he said, could not come at a better time than now when the scourge of malaria was endemic.

He said, “There is the need for a collective effort to tackle the malaria menace.”

The leader of the spraying team, Alhaji Sani Bodinga, said his colleagues who had been given the responsibility to undertake the fumigation in the targeted areas would not disappoint the lawmaker and the beneficiaries.

EducationVC Tells Clerics To Be Agents Of Change by nairapark(op): 11:29am On Aug 28, 2019
The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Oyo State, Prof. Dapo Asaju, has urged Christian clerics and the church to be agents of change that will provide solutions to the problems facing the country and the world at large.
Asaju, who was the keynote speaker at the Lagos Anglican Seminary convocation held in Lagos on Tuesday, said it was time for the country and the world to return to God to experience peace.

“Nigeria is passing through a lot of challenges and I dare say that the solution can only come from the church of God as no one can proffer solution outside God. Also, what is happening all over the world are telling us all to return to God.

“There is confusion everywhere, Russia is bracing with ammunition, North Korea is doing the same, Asia countries and confused Africa has never taken off. And what is the role of the church? In the Old Testament, God was in charge, He ran a theocratic system. He called people, he gave laws, he gave judgement, the government we run today all emanated from the Bible,” Asaju said.

A former deputy governor of Lagos State, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, urged the graduating clerics to create time for their family.

She said, “Create time for your children; try to know them so that they can confide in you. Use your position as men of God to talk to men to create time for their families. Lack of good parental care will always affect society.”

PoliticsKogi APC: Court Dismisses Suits Over Dispute, Primary by nairapark(op): 4:00pm On Aug 27, 2019
A FEDERAL High Court in Abuja has dismissed two suits filed by some members of the Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC).
The suits were in relation to the disputes over the party’s leadership and its choice of mode of primary for selecting a candidate for the forthcoming governorship election.

In two judgments on Monday, Justice Taiwo Taiwo dismissed both suits.

The first suit, filed by Haddy Augu Ametuo and another, prayed the court to determine the true leaders of the party from the two sets two factions, claiming entitlement to its leadership.

The second, filed by Destiny Eneojoh Aromeh, Isah Abubakar, Noah Aku and Mrs. Joy Onu, queried the decision of the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) to adopt indirect primary in choosing the party’s candidate for the election.

The plaintiffs were of the view that the choice of the mode to be adopted could not be determine while the leadership question in the state chapter of the party was yet unresolved, with the pendency of the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/ 581/2018.

Justice Taiwo, in the first judgment, dismissed the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/ 581/2018 for being statute barred on the grounds that it was not heard within the 180 days stipulated under Section 285(10) of the Constitution.

The judge upheld the preliminary objection filed against the suit, agreed with the defendants that it was a pre-election case and held that the suit is caught by the statute of limitation as contained in Section 285(10) of the constitution.

He noted that as of August 15, 2019, when the suit was heard, it was over 400 days, since the suit was filed.

Justice Taiwo noted that the issue in this matter has to do with the question regarding who is the authentic exco of the 1st defendant (APC) in Kogi State.

He added that it might appear not to be a pre-election matter, in that it has to do with the election of the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the 1st defendant in Kogi State and not election into elective offices.

The judge, however, held that by the Supreme Court decision in the case of APC v. Umar, the process or exercise embarked upon by a political party, such as congresses, nomination exercise, etc, are all pre-election matters or exercises.

He added: “I am bound by this decision and I cannot decide otherwise. There is no doubt that this suit was filed more than 400 days ago.

“The court ought to have decided this matter within 180 days. However, this is not the case. I find and hold that this court will be in contravention of Section 285(10), 4th Alteration No 21 Act, if it goes beyond this premise in this matter.”

In the second judgment on the case marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/833/2019, Justice Taiwo held since this suit was predicated on the first suit, which had been dismissed and it was unnecessary determining issues raised in the suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/833/2018) on the grounds that they have become academic.

BusinessMarkets Shunning PSP Operators Will Be Shut, Says Bello by nairapark(op): 11:37am On Aug 27, 2019
The Lagos State Government has threatened to shut down markets and parks refusing to patronise the private sector participation waste operators in the state.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello, said government was prepared to support the waste operators with equipment and loans.

In a statement on Monday by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, Bello noted that the state believed that increasing the capacity of the waste operators would ensure they delivered on their mandate of clearing refuse.
“The commissioner said in the coming weeks, he would be meeting with the leaders of market men, women and parks to ensure that the parks and markets are always clean and people do not dump waste indiscriminately.

“He emphasised that there would be zero tolerance for indiscriminate dumping of refuse in all markets and parks, warning that the present administration would not hesitate to shut down any market or park that fails to engage the services of a PSP operator to properly dispose of its refuse,” the statement added.

The commissioner, the statement said, explained that part of the policy thrusts of the present administration was waste sorting and buy back to reduce the amount of waste generated and transported to the Olusosun dump.

He said with the renaming of the ministry to include water resources, which covered drainage services, there would be better efforts at clearing drains all year round.

Bello was also said to have disclosed plans by Lagos, Ogun and the World Bank, to revive a plan mooted five years ago to establish another landfill site in Ogun State.

“He stated that in about four to five years’ time, the only functional landfill site in the state which was at Olusosun would be filled up and there was the need to take advantage of a neighbouring state with landmass like Ogun State in preparing for any eventuality.

“He affirmed that the bulk of the work of the ministry would be devoted to refuse clearing, as well as ensuring a smooth running of the drainage systems,” the statement said.

PoliticsIPAC Chairman Assembles 20 Lawyers To Answer Police Invitation by nairapark(op): 3:53pm On Aug 26, 2019
The Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council, Chief Peter Ameh, on Sunday said he had assembled over 20 lawyers to accompany him to answer his invitation by the police.
He alleged plans by some members to use security agencies to arrest him on Monday.

The IPAC chairman was reacting to the invitation by the Monitoring Unit of Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
But the police said they invited Ameh, who heads a coalition of 91 political parties, for an interview over a petition filed against him by aggrieved members.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Ameh said, “Till now, the police have not invited the petitioners. IPAC election is coming up on Tuesday. I have been invited by the police for what they described as interview. For me, it is because of politics since I am seeking re-election. The petitioners want to use police to scuttle the election and even detain me for me not to be available for the election. But I know I will be exonerated because my hands are clean. God will fight my battle because my hands are clean.

“You can imagine this! One of the petitioners is Abdullahi Sokoto while the name of the investigation police officer is Aminu Sokoto. I have assembled a team of over 20 lawyers to go with me to answer the police. My first encounter with men of the Nigeria Police was on September 5, 2018 and that was their first attempt to arrest me without any prior notification and it was no other day than the day of the IPAC election which was already in progress at the Hall of INEC Electoral Institute for which I was chairmanship contestant.

“But I declined and requested for a formal invitation and was later notified via a text message. I cannot say the IPAC national election coming up on Tuesday August 27 is unconnected with the invitation of the police that has just started again.”

He wondered why he was being invited by the police over a petition that had been disowned by one of the petitioners and National Chairman of Independent Democrats, Chief Edozie Madu.

The text of invitation delivered to him on Friday to appear before the police was sent by Adamu Abdullahi, a commissioner of police in charge of the IGP monitoring unit.

It reads, “Good morning, Sir. This is to inform you that the ongoing investigation into a case of criminal conspiracy and criminal misappropriation reported to the Inspector-General of Police by some IPAC members against some past leaders of IPAC is still on.

“Thus, an interview is hereby scheduled on Monday August 26, 2019 by 11am at the IGP monitoring unit, Force Headquarters in Abuja. You are expected to appear in person, please.”

When contacted, Abdullahi confirmed to The PUNCH that the invitation came on the orders of the IGP.

He said, “Yes, I am aware of the invitation of the IPAC chairman; there was a petition against him and he is aware. He even came, we had an interview and they requested for two weeks and will revert. But it is now three weeks and they did not come, that was why we invited them to know the development so far, based on their request.”

He said, “Yes, I am aware of the invitation of the IPAC chairman; there was a petition against him and he is aware. He even came, we had an interview and they requested for two weeks and will revert. But it is now three weeks and they did not come, that was why we invited them to know the development so far, based on their request.”
