Meanwhile, in Group C, South Sudan was disqualified because many of their players failed the MRI test that is used to verify the ages of players.

CAF disqualifies South Sudan U-17 team over age falsification

The South Sudan Football Association expressed its regret in a statement and acknowledged the decision made by the Confederation of African Football.

The South Sudan U-17 national football team has been disqualified from the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) U17 tournament in Algeria after five of their players failed the MRI test conducted on the team

The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) expressed its regret in a statement and acknowledged the decision made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

SSFA Spokesperson Albino Kuek Deng revealed the MRI test was conducted on 26 April and was intended to confirm that all players met the age eligibility criteria established by the competition’s regulations.

However, 48 hours after the test was conducted, the SSFA said they received a notification from CAF indicating that five players failed the MRI test and were deemed ineligible for participation in the competition.

It said two of these players had previously passed the MRI eligibility test in Ethiopia during the zonal qualifiers in September 2022.

“We immediately wrote a complaint to CAF medical committee an official complaint against their decision attaching the MRI results we did in Juba, in accordance to Article 27.6 sub article (iii) of the U17 regulations. The complaint was rejected by the medical saying that their first and second readings remains the same.” a part of the statement issued by the SSFA read.

The SSFA said it understands and respects the disqualification decision made by the competition’s organisers.

“We fully understand and respect the decision made by the competition’s organizers, and we apologize to our fans, sponsors, and partners for any disappointment this may cause.

“South Sudan Football Association would like to emphasize that we have always been committed to fair play and sportsmanship. We have taken all the necessary steps to ensure that all our players meet the eligibility criteria set by the competition’s regulations. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, some of our players were unable to participate in the competition.”

Meanwhile, the SSFA expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from fans, sponsors, and partners and stated its intention to participate in future competitions.

A press conference is being planned to provide further information about the team’s disqualification, it said.

May 6, 2023 10:35 pm

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have booked their place into the quarter-finals of the 2023 U-17 AFCON after defeating South Africa 3-2 in their final Group B game on Saturday.

The Eaglets had to come from behind twice before eventually bagging the winner to go through.

With the victory they finish second on six points while Morocco claimed first place.

Despite the defeat South Africa can still advance into the last eight as one of the third best placed team.

In Group B’s other game Morocco lost 2-1 to Zambia who are bottom.

South Africa took the lead in the sixth minute through Vicky Mkhawana.

In the 33rd minute Charles Agada equalised for the Golden Eaglets but Siyabonga Mabena put South Africa 2-1 ahead on 45 minutes.

Just two minutes into the second half the Eaglets drew level through Light Eke.

And in the 63rd minute Abubakar Abdullahi got what proved to be the winner for the Eaglets.

The Royal Salute on the Buckingham Palace lawn.

Look at the massed ranks in the garden. No wonder the parade commander addressed them as, "His Majesty's Armed Forces".

He looks tired. He almost missed his step. The ADC has to arrange the train bearers.

APC youths set to stage first-of-its-kind inauguration concert, announce organizing committee

Leaders of the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have announced a first-of-its-kind inauguration concert planned as an inclusive celebratory activity for young people across the country who contributed to the party’s victory and the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last presidential election.

Tagged the ‘Renewed Hope Concert’, the event is billed tentatively to take place on the 25th of May, 2023, at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja. It will feature prominent and trending music and entertainment artistes from across the country, while also providing fun and networking opportunities to attendees, regardless of partisan affiliation, ahead of the transition of power which will see the president-elect take his oath of office.

The Organizing Committee of the concert is chaired by the country’s next first son and prominent campaigner, Seyi Tinubu, who guided the party’s victorious youth engagement efforts during the campaign and was instrumental in the effective mobilization of youth votes, using his ample professional experience and global network.

He is deputized by Kashim Shettima Jr as Vice Chairperson, while Dayo Israel, Damilotun Aderemi, and Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed will all serve as Co Vice-Chairpersons. Others on the organizing committee include Tosin Odufuwa, the Director of Finance; Dada Olusegun, the Secretary; Bello el-Rufai, Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Hon. Akarachi Mbaike, Femi Oyetola, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, Ms Seun Olufemi-Whyte, Kola Alabi, Charles Odili, Ummasalma Rabiu, and Mubarak Dan Batta as members.

More important youth stakeholders within the party were tasked to serve in various sub-committees such as Venue; Contact & Mobilization; Accommodation; Fund Raising; Media; Logistics & Welfare; Printing; Entertainment; Program; Venue and Security Committees.

According to the media sub-committee that announced the event via a statement, participants are expected from across the six geo-political zones in the country, making the concert a national celebration of young people whose belief in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and optimism about the country’s future under his leadership made all the difference in the contest.

“It is an inclusive celebration of young people across the country who knocked on doors, persuaded friends, braved great risks, and stood firm to ensure the safe delivery of the Renewed Hope agenda of our next president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The concert is a way of acknowledging and appreciating their sacrifice and also an opportunity for us all to merry and network as we anticipate the formal assumption of office of our victorious City Boy,” the statement read in part.

The committee promised maximum fun and security for all participants.

The crazy thing is that the diamond that some people are referring to, the Indian diamond, is not in the Imperial State Crown or even the St Edward's Crown. These are the two crowns that are used in the coronation.

The diamond is in a crown that was used by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (the mother of Queen Elizabeth II). It is usually only worn by female members of the Royal Family.

The large diamond in the Imperial State Crown is the Cullinan Diamond, also known as the Great Star of Africa Diamond and it was mined in South Africa.
