naptu2: This is the Ojuelegba Flyover. The same flyover from which the truck fell. You can see the yellow posts on the left and right (just above the minibus), but the barrier has been cut and removed.
I'd like to see how they'll enforce it because this is not the first time that a government is banning trucks from the flyovers in Lagos.
naptu2: This truck accident at Ojuelegba has reminded me of the part of Bola Tinubu's war with the NURTW that I rarely write about. I have often written about the City Bus experiment, the war against agberos, the MOT issue, etc. but I rarely write about this part of the problem.
Governor Bola Tinubu decided that Danfos were one of the major causes of traffic jams on Lagos roads and that it was very dangerous for heavy duty vehicles to ply the many flyovers in the city, so he erected overhead bars at the entrances to most of the flyovers in Lagos.
You see, danfo buses usually convert the entrances to these flyovers into bus stops, which cause traffic jams and delay other road users, while heavy duty vehicles cause a huge strain on the flyovers and quite often fall off the bridges. Private vehicles, which are shorter than the buses and trucks, would be able to freely use the flyovers, while the buses and trucks would use the road below.
However, NURTW agberos, bus and truck drivers did not like this idea. Quite often drivers of heavy duty vehicles used their vehicles to destroy the overhead bars, while agberos and other thugs cut the bars in the middle of the night. The government often spent a lot of money replacing these bars until one day it finally gave up and stopped replacing them.
We are experiencing a similar problem in Lekki Phase 1. LCC built a pedestrian bridge to enable people cross the expressway. They also erected a metal fence in the median of the expressway to stop people running across and endangering their lives. You will not believe the number of times that people have destroyed that fence. LCC also stationed Man O War officials to arrest people that are jaywalking (or jayrunning), but this has not stopped the problem. People still destroyed the fence in the middle of the night. Now it seems like LCC have given up. They haven't replaced the fence in quite a while.
naptu2: Aha! This is what I was referring to. Luckily I've gotten a picture of it from Google maps.
The Bola Tinubu Administration put up these barriers to stop trucks and buses from using the flyover. It was not the first administration to do so. I know that a previous administration put up much larger and stronger barriers in the 1970s, but I can't remember who was governor at the time.
This particular barrier is at the flyover at Jibowu and it was put up by the Tinubu Administration, but see what is left of it. I remember clearly that this barrier was replaced several times when Tinubu was governor, but people kept removing it. All that is left is the posts. Every single time that it was replaced, people kept cutting off the barrier and leaving those two posts. They kept doing it until it got to a point that the government got fed up and left it like that.
You can see the yellow and black posts on either side of the road just before the bridge.
Once upon a time in China, the race for the highest goal scorer in the women's league was between Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria and Tabitha Chawinga of Malawi.
Today Oshoala is in the race for the highest goal scorer in Spain and Chawinga is currently the highest goal scorer in Italy.
RE: ALLEGED MEETING OF PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WITH SERVING MILITARY OFFICERS.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria notes with dismay the story being peddled around by some unscrupulous elements alleging that some military officers met with a Presidential candidate with the aim of disrupting the general elections and setting the country on fire. The wicked and very malicious propaganda indicated that a so-called thursday meeting is plotting a Coup d'etat to establish unconstitutional order.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria is disheartened that even politically exposed persons can denigrate themselves into joining agents of destabilisation and violence in making false claims just to heighten tension in the polity.
It needs to be stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria is a professional military that is loyal to the constitution of the Federal Republic and will never be part of any evil plot against our democracy. Besides, the Military remains apolitical and neutral in the current political process and will not engage in the alleged shenanigans. The Armed Forces of Nigeria will never be part of any ignoble plot to truncate our hard-earned democracy.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria hereby warn that those who engage in fabricating and spreading unfounded misinformation will be invited by the appropriate law enforcement agencies to substantiate their claims.
The general public is advised to disregard such information and go about their normal activities.

Barça have kept their 100 per cent record alive in the Liga F. On Saturday they were simply too good Alavés, although especially early on, the Basques put up a sterner fight than the final scoreline might suggest.
After coming out wearing shirts in support of the earthquake victims on Turkey and Syria and respecting a minute's silence, the game began with Barça utterly dominating but unable to turn any of their many chances into goals.
It was Oshoala who finally got things moving after 32 minutes with her 18th goal of the season, capping a delightful move also featuring Claudia Pina and Fridolina Rolfö.
The highly active Swede was also involved in the second goal, which goes down in the books as an own goal by Ohale. There could have been more before the break, with Oshoala having two great chances, one of which hit the post.
The home side were again saved by the woodwork in the second half, not once but twice. While Sandra Paños' gloves were barely warmed, Jana was doing wonders on the home side's goal to keep the score down, and the hour mark had passed before Aitana Bonmatí finally netted goal number three. The great piece of opportunism meant the three points were as good as settled.
Claudia Pina finished off the job by converting a magnificent pass from Lucy Bronze, and Barça go into the international break knowing that everything is going to perfect plan in the domestic championship. 19 out of 19. Incredible.
