naptu2: Chronicling the hatred
1) People were praying that rain should fall so that the race would not take place.
2) People were making extremely negative (and extremely ignorant) comments about the colour of the water (they've probably never heard of silting). A marine expert even tried (voluntarily) to explain it to them (he tweeted about the brackish nature of the creek), but it was a waste of time because the colour experts were not really concerned about the colour and quality of the water.
3) People complained that there were no black people in the race (someone asked one of the complainers why he didn't take part in the race and whether he was not a black person).
4) Some people were saying that people would be seriously injured and there would be no place to treat them.
5) Someone said that Lagos State had nothing to do with the race and that it was just the governing body and Didier Drogba.
The hate and jealousy was incredible (and pointless), but it was extremely entertaining. At the end of the day it was a successful and historic event. People had fun and spent their money in Lagos. That's all that matters. |

It boosts global visibility, attracting investments and promoting sustainable tech for waterways. While short-term, it inspires innovation, though some note limited impact on daily challenges like traffic. https://x.com/grok/status/1975115593935446157?t=-Bn6ypgipBw3twfw78RvBg&s=19Samuel Ayobami @hayourbahme You think FBN and the others sponsoring this event are stu pid? 🙄 https://x.com/hayourbahme/status/1974937816439415224? samuelson06: You have money to pull this off but you can't give your people a good life. What's Sanwo trying to achieve with spending money on Wyclef? When will Nigeria leadership be about the people and not about pleasing themselves and strangers? Yes, it was Sanwo-Olu that spent money on the electric boat race, not the sponsors. |

Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu It was a pleasure to receive singer and songwriter Wyclef Jean, Miss Earth and Miss Earth-Water on a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
Our discussions highlighted Lagos as not only a hub of culture and creativity, but also a welcoming destination that embraces global efforts toward a cleaner, greener future.
We’re proud to showcase the warmth, energy, and hospitality that make Lagos truly unique. https://x.com/jidesanwoolu/status/1974906254280556894?

WizardOfNG: Correct and Lagos has explained this was coming even weeks ago. See below. I am still surprised some cannot harness the power of AI to become quickly informed and even financially successful. From simply gaining guiding info quickly to creating powerful feasibility report and detailed new business profit forecasting, perhaps to secure start-up loan, AI can do it virtually instantly.
As with below, AI saves time literally 'stitching' together and summarising all that has been reported about an issue together quickly and efficiently while references sources. This is also why I always post links to previous threads (as I did on the first page of this thread) because they tell the whole story. I can't repeat every single detail every time, but a click on those links would provide the entire story. |

Can you believe that there are people that are waiting for me to spoonfeed them and if I don't spoonfeed them, they'll just go ahead and make something up (something that they do not know and have no evidence of)?
Isn't that wonderful? |

Sometimes people want to argue with me. They don't realise that I am not interested in any arguments. I create threads to document events. Time answers all arguments and when it does, I like to be able to refer back to these threads. |

The amazing thing about Nairaland is that the issues are usually straightforward and easy to understand, but people are playing politics (and they think that observers don't know). |

FarahAideed: I have followed is particular E 1 for a while and I knew Lagos could host it and always called for them to look at lagos because the Lagoon around Vi seemed like the perfect spot , a lot better than a lot of other circuits they use , so when they came I wasn't surprised , but you see F1 , Lagos not have a single thing they need , Abuja even stands better chance Ah! Ah! You have time and power o! naptu2: Even in the next one thousand years Lagos cannot host powerboat event. What are you arguing about again? Or you just like to type? |
Politics › Re: Lagos Licenses New Discos, Replaces Eko, Ikeja Electric by naptu2(op): 5:15am On Oct 06, 2025 |
madridguy: Which subsidy again oga? Are we going to be paying more now for power? You must pay the amount of money that will enable the gas companies to produce their gas and pay their workers, enable the generation companies to buy and maintain equipment, generate electricity and pay their workers and enable the distribution companies to distribute electricity, maintain their equipment and pay workers, otherwise you will have no electricity. Workers are not going to work without salary and companies are not going to work without equipment. You can't get electricity that way. The result of that is blackout. |

Most of the discos serve areas beyond state borders. They will be required to register new companies that will be licensed by the state energy regulators once the states take over regulatory functions. naptu2: 🤣 Check out the comments above! They don't realise that the new companies are the old companies (I've explained this many times on this forum). |

Step by step.
⚫️ Now states can license companies to generate electricity.
⚫️ Now states can license companies to distribute electricity.
⚫️ Now states can have their own mini grids.
⚫️ Now states can remove the ridiculous subsidy. |
