Chioma Okafor is an exciting new player at this WAFCON. Her father is Nigerian and her mother is Malawian and she was born and raised in Malawi. She has been making waves at university level in the United States. The Football Association of Malawi announced a few weeks ago that Chioma Okafor told them that she'd rather play for Nigeria. Her name was announced in the Super Falcons WAFCON squad the next day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIPEfmsVqTw?si=P0mnbsZB_VGwi5Wv |

The Women's African Cup of Nations began in 1998 when Mrs Mariam Abacha donated a trophy for the tournament and Nigeria hosted the first edition. However there had previously been a home and away tournament to select the African representative for the FIFA Women's Championships in 1991 and 1995 and the winner of those tournaments (Nigeria) was recognised as the champion of Africa. This is a list of all previous winners and hosts of the tournament.
