March 2025
The Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) recently held a strategic engagement session with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) at the LERSA Secretariat to discuss critical aspects of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Green Line Project. The meeting focused on the Right-of-Way (ROW) and other key components of the project, ensuring alignment with the interests of stakeholders and residents.
The discussions centered on the following key areas:
1. Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP): Addressing the civil works, construction of rail tracks, stations, and pedestrian bridges.
2. Resettlement Plan: Outlining measures for affected parties to ensure a fair and transparent process.
The LAMATA team provided detailed insights into the Green Line route and project plans, which will be finalized upon the completion of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and civil works.
Key Highlights of the Green Line Project:
1. Project Phases:
- Phase 1: The Green Line will run from Marina to Sangotedo.
- Phase 2: The line will extend to the Lekki Free Zone in Ibeju-Lekki.
2. Station Infrastructure:
- A total of 17 elevated stations will be constructed from Marina to Ibeju-Lekki.
3. Elevated Rail Tracks:
- Majority of the rail tracks will be elevated to minimize disruption to existing infrastructure along the Lekki corridor.
4. Consultancy Services:
- LAMATA has engaged SETEC INTERNATIONAL and GREENSTAD PROJECT LTD as professional consultants to conduct the ESIA, ESMP, and Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF).
5. Station Locations:
- The Green Line will feature stations at Marina, Civic Centre, Lekki Phase 1, Freedom Way, Jakande, Chevron, Ajah, Ogombo/Abraham Adesanya, Sangotedo, Greenspring/Awoyaya, Lakowe, Onosa, Eleko, Ibeju, Okegun, Lagos Airport, and Lekki Free Zone.
6. Project Timeline:
- The ESIA is scheduled to commence in 2025.
7. Sustainability:
- The Green Line LRMT will operate as an electric rail system, aligning with global sustainability standards.
During the engagement, the LERSA team, led by Pastor Adewale Aderoju (Chairman, Infrastructure and Maintenance Committee) and Mr. Femi Oke (Chairman, Transportation Committee) emphasized the importance of broader stakeholder engagement to ensure public awareness and proper consideration of the Right-of-Way (ROW) before project implementation.
This engagement marks a significant step forward in ensuring the successful implementation of the Green Line LRMT Project, with a focus on collaboration, transparency, and community involvement.
In the wake of the Uromi incident that claimed the lives of hunters from Kano State. Today, I received a high-powered delegation from Kano led by Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Gwarzo here in Edo State.
This tragedy has touched us all. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep concern and, in collaboration with the Edo State Government, a Fact-Finding Committee has been set up to thoroughly investigate the incident, identify its root causes, and recommend lasting solutions.
This isn’t just a response—it’s a firm commitment to peace, justice, and the value of every human life. We are taking deliberate steps to ensure that such a painful event never repeats itself. The delegation also presented a detailed report to support the work of the committee already in motion.
Our government remains transparent and purposeful in handling this matter. I appreciate the Kano State Government for their maturity and partnership throughout this challenging time.
During the visit, we also proceeded to Uromi, where we met with members of the Hausa Community.
Edo and Kano share long-standing ties in commerce, culture, and coexistence and we will continue to protect that relationship.
Let me assure all residents, indigenes and non-indigenes that Edo State is a home for everyone.
We are committed to safeguarding lives, upholding law and order, and preserving peace in every part of our state.
Ours is a government of action. Our goal remains clear: to build a safer, united, and stronger Edo for all.
