TravelNRC, Plateau State Government Sign Agreement To Restore Jos-Kuru Rail Corridor by naptu2(op): 5:00am On Apr 09, 2025
Dr Kayode Opeifa (DKO) @DrKayodeOpeifa

“RAILING WITH THE STATE”

We are pleased to announce a strategic partnership between the @info_NRC and the @Plateaugovt x @CalebMutfwang, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to restore and operate the historic Jos–Kuru rail corridor.

This landmark agreement, signed in Lagos by the Plateau State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Jatau Davou, and The Management of @info_NRC, signifies a major step toward revitalizing Nigeria’s rail infrastructure. It aligns with our shared vision of enhancing regional connectivity, improving mobility, and stimulating economic growth across Plateau State and beyond.

The Jos–Kuru line, part of the historic Kafanchan–Kuru corridor that connects both Western and Eastern rail lines will play a critical role in supporting local communities, farmers, and traders through efficient cargo and passenger movement. While initial operations will run on the existing narrow gauge, plans are in motion to upgrade to standard gauge under the national railway modernization agenda.

We commend the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Hon. Said Ahmed Alkali, for his unwavering support, which underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda. His endorsement of this initiative reinforces our resolve to expand rail services across Nigeria.

This collaboration exemplifies what’s possible when federal and state governments work hand-in-hand to drive infrastructural development. It is not just about trains. it’s about restoring dignity, creating jobs, supporting commerce, and uniting the nation.

We look forward to commencing commercial operations on this corridor soon, and we remain committed to ensuring rail services reach every corner of Nigeria. More partnership announcements with other states soon.

TravelRe: Update On The Lagos Green Line Project by naptu2(op):
Common sense

If it is a very hot afternoon and the sun is shining and someone comes to argue with me that the sun is not shining, I'll simply see the person as someone that has very serious problems. I won't waste my time arguing with the person. That's the case here.

If someone comes to pretend that he does not know what even a primary school child knows, something that is obvious to everybody, then I will see him as someone that has very serious problems. I won't waste my time arguing with him.

Every sensible person knows that no government can do all it wants to do in one day. If you come to me to argue that a government should do everything in one day, just because you are desperate to engage in an argument with me, then you are wasting your time.

I told you that the United Nations conducted a study in the 1950s and identified some cities that would become among the biggest cities in the world (mega cities) population wise within the next 50 years and it advised that metro systems should be built in those cities to cope with the future population explosion.

I can't remember all the cities that were in the report, but I remember that Lagos, Cairo and Johannesburg (in Africa) and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil were among the cities.

Cairo Metro

Construction of the Cairo Metro began in 1982 and the first section of Line 1 was opened in 1987. The whole of Line 1 was completed in 1989 and it was commissioned by President Ibrahim Babangida of Nigeria in 1991 (Babangida was in Egypt as the special guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the 1991 All Africa Games).

Line 1 was still extended even as recently as 1999.

Construction of Line 2 began in the mid 1990s. Line 2 was officially commissioned in the Year 2000, but it is still being extended today.

Line 3 was built in seven phases from 2007 to 2024.

(Note: the Cairo Metro was built by the National Government of Egypt, not by a state or local government).

Gautrain

The Gautrain is an 80 kilometre train service that links Johannesburg, Pretoria and Kempton Park with O.R. Tambo International Airport. It was announced in the Year 2000 and formed part of South Africa's 2010 World Cup bid.

Background work began in the Year 2000 and the actual construction began in 2006.

It was built in two phases simultaneously.

Testing of the first phase began in 2009 and it was opened to the public in 2010, ahead of the World Cup. The second phase was opened in 2011.

In 2016 the government began talks about expanding the line. The routes for the additional lines have been identified and in 2024 a cost was attached to it.

(Note: the Gautrain was built by the national government of South Africa. It was not built by a state or local government).

No government does all it wants to do in one day. No government has the money to do all it wants to do in one day. Even the Rio Metro was built in phases. It's completely stupid to expect that any government will do all it wants to do at once. I will view anybody that brings such argument to me as a person that is arguing that the sun is not shining, when everybody can obviously see and feel the effects of the sun.

Governments look for the best, most sustainable and most effective way of doing things.

You can easily tell that that guy doesn't know anything because he claimed that Fashola planned to finish the Blue Line before starting any other line. The same Fashola that was complaining that the Federal Government was frustrating his efforts to start the Red Line? I laugh.

He initially complained that the Blue Line did not reach Badagry and he was writing about how important it was, but all of a sudden, when I confronted him with facts, he suddenly decided that the Blue Line was not important and other lines should have been done first. Can you imagine that?

Government looks for a way to spread development and touch everywhere by doing a bit at a time in diverse places. Therefore, the Blue Line is serving the people of Mile 2 to Marina, the Red Line is serving the people of Agege, Yaba, Oyingbo, etc, the Green Line will serve the people of Victoria Island, Lekki, etc. That's the common sense way of spreading development.

The funny guy says that the Orange Line will not be built. That's already an indication that he should be ignored. He is not God and we can already see the Blue and Red lines in operation.

The fact is that the guy doesn't care whether the rail lines reach Badagry and Ikorodu, it's just bad belle, an attempt to put negativity in a good news thread. The attempt has failed.

Rumour mongers said that he was not at President Tinubu's birthday iftar (he said that he was there) and they said that he had collapsed and been rushed to France for treatment. However, he led FCT residents to visit the President the next day (as part of the Eid celebrations).

Is it possible for a person to be in France and Abuja at the same time?

Housing is wasting his time, just like his twin. I am not wasting my time with a desperate and failed attempt to introduce negativity to a good news thread. I didn't read his post. The chance to entertain me has past.
