Sanwo-Olu praises artists, residents for successful Lagos Countdown 2025

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the artists and residents who made the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 a resounding success.

In a statement posted O his X page after the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude to the talented artists who performed at the New Year countdown, including Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Olamide, Seyi Vibez, and many others.

He lauded their exceptional talent and passion, which illuminated the stage and brought immense joy to the people of Lagos.

The Governor also extended his appreciation to the residents of Lagos, who came together in unity to celebrate the start of a new year.

He noted that the event showcased the true spirit of Lagos, highlighting the city’s vibrant energy and the resilience of its people.

The #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 was a multi-location event, held across five major locations in the state, including Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe.

The main stage was located at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island.

Yesterday, Air France deboarded an unruly passenger at the Abuja International Airport. His disruptive behaviour in the aircraft was a safety risk for other passengers.

Since he did not possess a Nigerian visa, he was not allowed into Abuja. Being a French national, he was visited by staff of the French Embassy and a doctor and then granted accommodation in the hotel within the airport terminal.

Later, British Airways deboarded him due to the same unruly behaviour he had put up aboard Air France.

Today, he was supposed to depart via Asky but could not present evidence of payment for the e-'ticket' he presented. The airline declined to airlift him.

Immigration officials had quite a hectic time handling the erratic passenger who can be seen littering our clean terminal with what seems to be tissue paper and screaming, "My passport, my passport."

Apparently, the Immigration officers wanted to ensure that he boarded his flight before handing the passenger his international passport to prevent him from escaping through the exit gate and into the city.

NCAA Consumer Protection regional head, Miriam Anosike, understanding the security, safety, and diplomatic ramifications of the case, addressed Air France personnel sternly, reminding them that they brought the passenger to Nigeria and must be responsible for airlifting him out of Nigeria as he is becoming a liability to the country.

"If you are afraid to airlift him, why do you expect other airlines to be responsible for him? Get him a ticket and move him tomorrow!"

I salute Miriam, whose years of experience as CPO came in handy. Tomorrow night, we will monitor Air France operations to ensure that the passenger is safely airlifted.

Kudos to the men of the NIS who also kept their cool all through.

Pardon me. He wasn’t transiting. His flight had a stop in Nigeria. He wasn't to deplane. In any case, he is entirely the responsibility of Air france.

On January 1st 2025, I led the leadership of the National Assembly and some members, on a New Year visit to the President, Commander-in- Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

During the visit, I reiterated the commitment and support of the National Assembly to the success of the Tinubu -led administration, through making laws that will positively transform the living standard of Nigerians.

On behalf of our great state, I was delighted to welcome boxing icon Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua during his visit to Lagos. Our city is a hub of fun, culture, and endless inspiration, and it’s always a joy to host champions like Anthony, who draw motivation from our vibrant energy and spirit.

As Anthony prepares for a bigger and better 2025, we encourage him to keep inspiring the world with his grit and determination. Lagos stands proudly behind him, just as we celebrate every champion who finds strength and purpose in our city.

Today, I joined the Vice President ,Senator Kashim Shettima; the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio; the Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Jibrin Barau; the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, principal officers of both the Senate and the House, and former Presiding Officers of the House, as well as some of our colleagues to pay New Year homage to the President/Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at his Ikoyi residence.

Today, I joined fellow governors in meeting with HE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to felicitate with them and reflect on the strides made in 2024.

It was a moment to celebrate progress and align our shared vision for a stronger, more united Nigeria in 2025.

Together, we discussed what worked, shared innovative ideas, and charted a course for even greater achievements.

Collaboration remains key to building a nation that works for all Nigerians. 2025 is the year for bold actions, unity, and impactful governance.

Let’s keep moving forward.

It was a moment of reflection, unity, and shared commitment as we step into a new year with renewed hope and dedication to advancing our nation’s progress.
