I don't want to post too many photos (in order to avoid restrictions) but you can check out some before and after photos on this thread.

I gather that the projects will most likely be commissioned on Wednesday and Thursday.

goslowgoslow is still mentioning me. 🤣

Please, why would I read his post?

He hasn't got anything meaningful to contribute.

This is why I usually block people like this.

goslowgoslow came to complain about the name Maracana. He made it sound like government named it Maracana.

I asked him who named it Maracana, he replied that it looks like I just jumped into the comment section (on my own thread).

Then he started writing all sorts of irrelevant things about playing on the field in 1985 (which is a lie. He won't be asking why Maracana if he played on the field in 1985) simply because he saw my post about the origin of the field.

Can you imagine that?

Children of nowadays are very funny.

I was my dad's telephone operator.

naptu2:
Memories.

Saturday morning phone calls.

Babayo Shehu, Sebastian Williams, Chuba Ikpeazu, Akin Ladigbolu, Amos Adamu, Abraham Ordia (I can't remember the name of the other man), Patrick Ekeji, Anthony Ikhazoboh, Abdulkareem "AK" Amu (the legend, he also came in the evenings).

(Of course, obviously, I cannot leave out "Agara speaking" ).

I'm sure that I have left out many names (it's easier to remember the evening people), but I'll add them as I remember.

(What was that man's name? Was it Awoture Eliaye, or something like that).

Nigeria hosted the African Nations Cup in 1980. This inspired a naval officer to organise a mock nations cup in Ajegunle.

Teams took the names of countries that took part in the Nations Cup. Matches were played at the Navy Town field and at another field in Ajegunle. This other field was nicknamed Maracana, after the Brazilian stadium that was the biggest in the world.

Many Super Eagles players were discovered on these pitches.

It's funny when people just jump in and post all kinds of things because of politics without having any idea what they are posting about.

Why name the stadium Maracana? Are the no Nigeria names or after any of our footballers?
Anyways kudos to him all the projects are nice, needed and beautiful.
Who named the stadium Maracana?

From the previous thread.

Yemi Idowu is the son of Chief Nathaniel Idowu. He is a non-executive director of Sterling Bank and was once chairman of Sterling Capital. He also serves as chairman of Leyland Nigeria.

He is a director of the Lagos Junior League and the current chairman of Nathaniel Boys Football Club where the likes of Leicester City F.C. midfield maestro Wilfred Ndidi started his career from.

He runs the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation which renovated the Maracana football pitch in Ajegunle.

From the previous thread.

The Maracana Pitch at Tolu in Ajegunle is a famous football ground where many Super Eagles players have been discovered. Along with the Navy Pitch (also in Ajegunle), Maracana pitch has been the breeding ground for stars like Emmanuel Amunike and Wilfred Ndidi.

Chief Nathaniel Idowu was a multimillionaire who pumped a lot of money into Nigerian football in the 1970s, '80s and '90s. He was the chairman of Leyland (they made trucks and buses at their plant in Ibadan), owned several hotels (if I remember correctly, he owned Newcastle Hotel in Anthony Village) and I remember that he also owned a bank, but I can't remember which one. He also had shares in Tottenham Hotspur football club. He pumped so much money into Nigerian football that the Federal Government appointed him to the NFA board. One of his children, Yemi Idowu took over his businesses after he died (he was behind the renovation of the Maracana Pitch in Ajegunle), while another of his children, Phillips Idowu competed for Great Britain in track and field athletics. Chief Nathaniel Idowu died in 2010.

The Nathaniel Idowu Foundation was responsible for renovating the Maracana Football Pitch in Ajegunle.

VHS players came on steam in the mid 1970s.

Don't forget the manual and later electronic video cassette reminders.

For audio cassettes, your Bic biro pen was always very useful, especially after you manage to remove tangled tape from the cassette player.

Thanks for the memories!
And the cassette surgeries, when you need to open the cassette to disentangle the tape.

I got to know the meaning of LP, EP, Side A & B and tracks through this.

These carried on to the audio cassettes.

Those coming across the term "track" today may not realise it came from the tracks (circular ridges on the discs.
Exactly!

The difference between an album and a single. The albums were usually the big vinyl records while the singles were on smaller discs.

The different speeds. 33⅓, 45rpm, 78.

In the early days of the VCR, our parents used to warn us about taking the cassettes out of the house.

Why?

It was a way thieves knew which houses had VCRs and target!

At a time, musical videos became popular on shows like those hosted by Olisa Adibua on NTA 2 Channel 5 (can't remember the name of the show now).

We would set our video tapes in the VCR machine so we could selectively record the songs we liked live.

We would replay them after.

This was a good way to learn the songs, dance moves, etc.
Olisa Adibua - Top of the Pops.

I remember the day he wore a t-shirt (with no collar) and tie. I also remember the day that he was flinging viewers' letters.

The video clubs really helped with music videos from around 1985 onwards. We were members of Cosmo and VideoMart.

I remember the cord. We still got this at home too. It just become obsolete as the years passed. The VHS tapes my Dad bought back then are still at home till this very day. He's got so much stuffs from way back. Still figuring out what we might to with them. You just brought back all those memories.
It was because of the rectangular shape of the remote and the cord that I converted it into my "microphone" while watching music videos.

Well, my family had some of those things , but if you told my father he was rich, he would have laughed at you.

Back in the 1980's and 90's, my parents had side hustles . Especially after the time SAP was introduced.
SAP! It was SAP that changed everything. You didn't have to be rich to have all these but that changed after SAP.
