Note: I have been watching Silverbird pageants since 1986 and a contestant's actual state of origin does not matter at all. Contestants are assigned to states and a person from Rivers State can represent Kano State, etc.

(This was the subject of many jokes in the 1980s).

Bianca Onoh represented Abuja, Sabrina Umeh represented Niger, Nike Oshinowo represented Rivers, etc.

UPDATE: Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu today received Mr. Dapo Oyebanjo @iamdbanj ‘KokoMaster’, as he presented a commemorative plaque on the launch of The Entertainer - D’Sequel album.

During the visit, D’banj discussed his album and shared other plans for his brand later in the year.

Today, I received Miss Adeola Adefemi, an English Language teacher at Keke Senior High School in Agege, who was awarded the overall national prize in the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition.

She emerged as the winner of the 9th edition, standing out among 1,200 teachers from 36 states.

We take immense pride in Miss Adefemi's accomplishment. Her success reflects the progress of public education in our State and highlights the resilient, can-do spirit that defines Lagosians.

As a Government, we remain dedicated to prioritizing education through comprehensive budgeting for all aspects, including infrastructure, skill development, and training. This ensures that our teachers and students have the resources they need to thrive.

I encouraged Miss Adefemi to continue striving for excellence, reminding her that this award brings added responsibilities to both her profession and our State.

UPDATE: Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu today received the Winner of the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition, Ms Adeola Adefemi, an English Teacher of Keke Senior High School, Ifako, Agege under Education District I.

She is a graduate of Lagos State Model College Badore.

In 2023, she won the best Teacher in Africa by African Union.

She won the 2023 Maltina Award out of 1,200 teachers from 36 States across the Country.

In 2022, Ms Adefemi won the best teacher prize in Lagos State and was celebrated and rewarded by the Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with a brand new car.

Also in 2022, She also won the Presidential Best Teacher Prize in Nigeria and was given another SUV by the Federal Government in Abuja

Ms Adefemi is a 2020 Fulbright Teaching Excellence award winner and founder of Girls Allowed Hub, Every Child Counts Club, and the convener of the Secure Your Future Campaign.

UPDATE: Lagos State TaskForce led by CSP Tayo Akerele has deployed security officers on BRT routes across the State starting from the Alaba Suru area where a BRT was attacked by some suspected hoodlums recently.

There was an enforcement operation along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway yesterday. Policemen and Lagos State officials were impounding motorcycle taxis (Okada) that were illegally operating on the expressway and yellow and black commercial buses (danfo) that were operating on the BRT lane.

After the policemen and officials left, okada riders, bus drivers and conductors and area boys began marching towards the Orile Police Station (probably to attack the station). They saw a BRT bus on the way and decided to attack it. They stopped traffic in front of the bus and then attacked it, damaging the bus, robbing the passengers and injuring the bus crew.

The mob was later dispersed by policemen from Orile Police Station who fired teargas at them.
