MemoriesAndMe:
Must everything be built by the government? Is anything stopping private individuals from investing in their personal dispensing stations and making profit from that business? No be same one head wey all of us get wey dangote get wey him build him own refinery? Was he waiting for government?
And actually, many private companies have built CNG stations across Nigeria. The most famous is NIPCO.

NIPCO built 15 CNG stations in Benin City in the early 2000s. They have gradually spread out across the country. As part of this new initiative the government has also engaged them to build more stations.

Here is a list of some of the NIPCO CNG stations across Nigeria.

And NIPCO is not the only company that has CNG stations.

naptu2:
I guess the removal of petrol subsidies has made it more viable.
naptu2:
I remember that, back in the 1980s, NNPC regularly exhibited a made in Nigeria peugeot 504 that ran on gas, with the promise that such cars would go on sale in Nigeria "next year".
naptu2:
Let me clarify about Peugeot 504. PAN continued making Peugeot 504 in Nigeria, when other countries had stopped producing, it for specific reasons.

The original goal of the 1969 auto conference was to produce a Made In Nigeria car. Bedford had been doing CKD since 1959, but Gowon wanted a completely made in Nigeria car. Peugeot took this challenge very seriously.

They had been increasingly sourcing parts in Nigeria and they kept the public informed about it. So you'd hear announcements like 70% made in Nigeria, 80% made in Nigeria, etc.

You could win a 504 if you hit a hole in one at the Nigerian golf tournament at Ikoyi Club in the 1980s. It was heavily marketed.

Peugeot had a joint venture with the Nigerian Gas Company (a subsidiary of NNPC) to produce a Peugeot 504 that ran on gas (1989). There was a lot of publicity about it, but NGC did not fulfil its part of the obligation (there were no filling stations equipped with gas dispensers).

So this was a thing of pride for PAN. They had built a Made In Nigeria car and they wanted it to go on forever, so they kept re-inventing it. Adding plastic here and there, until they finally stopped making it in 2005. They were still re-modelling the cars in 2008.
naptu2:
You don't understand. The first time that I saw a compressed natural gas filling station in Nigeria was in 1989. That's almost 31 years ago. How many of these stations exist across Nigeria today.

Peugeot had committed to making Peugeot 504 cars that ran on compressed natural gas, expecting that there would be filling stations across Nigeria, but how many of these stations are in Lagos? How many are in Abuja? How many are in Enugu? Yet this is 31 years later.
naptu2:
Once again, sometime in the 2000s, a subsidiary of the NNPC ran a programme in Benin City to convert vehicles to run on CNG. Many vehicles in Benin now use CNG and they built 15 CNG stations in the city. However, they did not extend this programme nationwide.
naptu2:
Let me show you how unserious Nigeria is.

Some people might think that this compressed natural gas (CNG) idea is new, but it is not. I watched as the government said that it was rolling out a CNG programme in the late 1980s. In response Peugeot made 504 cars that ran on CNG. The Nigerian Gas Company was meant to build fuel stations that dispensed CNG. They never did. The Peugeot 504 cars were just like prototypes.

Once again, sometime in the 2000s, a subsidiary of the NNPC ran a programme in Benin City to convert vehicles to run on CNG. Many vehicles in Benin now use CNG and they built 15 CNG stations in the city. However, they did not extend this programme nationwide.

It is only now, when we have damaged our economy with subsidy and when we have no choice, that we are considering having a national CNG programme.

I have been posting about this since 2012.

It's similar to how we should have removed subsidy since the early 1980s, but we kept it until it almost ruined us. The only reason we stopped it now is because we have no money. Some people think that this subsidy issue began in the Goodluck Jonathan or Obasanjo eras, but government has been trying to remove it since the early 1980s.

Similarly, I have been shouting since 1987 that we needed to get rid of our numerous money losing parastatals. It looked like government wanted to take over every sector of the economy, shut out individuals and pump money into them without considering where the money was coming from and how much we were losing in taxes that would have been paid by individuals if they had been running companies in those sectors. There was NICON, Daily Times, New Nigerian, NNSL, Nepa, Nitel, Nipost, Nigerdock, FMB, Nigeria Airways and so on and so forth. We had to wait until we had no money (during the Obasanjo era) before we sold all that nonsense.

But is it only Lagos that should benefit from this initiative? Meanwhile I haven't seen CNG sold anywhere. What is really going on?
Who said that it's only Lagos that is benefitting from the initiative? The person that tweeted is the Lagos State commissioner for transportation. You won't expect him to tweet about other states.

CNG has been sold in Benin for almost 15 years (if not more).

If you must send nudes, at least do one-view or cover your face or any other identification mark. And do not forget that video calls can be screen shot/recorded. For others, it is a clandestine recording of their intimate moments, of course without consent.

I have honestly lost count of people, sometimes notable ones, approaching me about someone somewhere blackmailing and extorting them with their nudes.

Trust no one. Take adequate precautions. Trust your instincts too. And do not forget to reach incb.npf.gov.ng in the unfortunate event you fall victim of this. 🤗🤗

The Lagos State Police Command yesterday arrested an 18-year-old boy, Michael Ogbogu, for blackmailing a 17-year-old girl with her nude pictures. The sister of the girl residing in an estate in Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos, reported that Ogbogu, who was a secondary schoolmate to her sister at Igbo Efon, Lekki, Lagos, some time ago, started using her sister’s nude pictures to blackmail her.

It was said that Ogbogu made several screenshots while having a video conversation with the girl and has ever since blackmailed her. He also demanded sex from her.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said the lady told the police that Ogbogu asked her sister to get money from her parents.

“The suspect was arrested and he made confessional statements. The case is under investigation and further development will be communicated,”
Hundeyin said.

Nigeria and 4 countries where Ghana could play home games after Baba Yara Stadium ban

Emmanuel Ayamga
11 September 2024

Ghana currently has no stadium good enough to host international matches after CAF withdrew its approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The West African nation faces the embarrassing prospect of playing their home matches abroad, especially with a 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan scheduled for early October.

The deplorable state of the Baba Yara Stadium came under the spotlight following the Black Stars’ AFCON qualifier against Angola last Thursday.

Otto Addo’s side lost 1-0 to the Palancas Negras in their opening qualifying game, with many attributing the defeat to the deplorable state of the pitch.

Baba Yara Sports Stadium no longer fit to host international matches

Now that CAF has ruled that the Baba Yara Stadium does not meet the required standard for hosting Category 3 international matches, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) faces a race against time to secure a venue for the national team’s next home assignment.

The continent’s football governing body has also directed the GFA to select an alternative venue from among those approved by CAF outside Ghana for next month’s AFCON qualifiers.

With this in mind, Pulse Sports has compiled a list of countries that could provide standard stadiums for Ghana to host their next home game, albeit abroad.

Nigeria

As embarrassing as it sounds, Ghana could find themselves at the doorstep of rivals Nigeria as the search for an alternative venue begins.

It’s not like Nigeria are superior when it comes to maintaining sports infrastructure, but they are currently in a far better situation than Ghana. Not only is the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja good enough to host international standard matches, but the beautiful Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where the Super Eagles recently hosted Benin in an AFCON qualifier, is also a viable venue.

Ivory Coast

Fresh from hosting the 2023 AFCON, Ivory Coast have several stadiums that meet CAF/FIFA’s required standards.

Six world-class stadiums in the country were used for the AFCON, including the Alassane Ouattara Stadium and Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, and they remain in very good shape.

With Ghana sharing a border with the Ivory Coast, the country could come to the Black Stars’ rescue with a venue for their next home game.

Morocco

Morocco are far away in North Africa but boast excellent facilities and have often been charitable enough to allow other nations to play their home matches there.

Recently, Ghana’s AFCON qualifier against Niger was played at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco due to the latter’s inability to host their matches in their home country. Maybe, Ghana could also be following suit after CAF withdrew its approval of the Baba Yara Stadium.

Mali

Should Ghana decide not to travel very far for their home games abroad, Mali could be another option. Mali has invested a lot into their sports infrastructure and their reward is having several world-class pitches.

When the Black Stars faced the Eagles in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in June, the game was played at the Stadium du 26 Mars in Bamako. Given that Ghana won that game, the GFA could consider playing there again as an alternative home venue.

South Africa

Just like Morocco, South Africa are blessed with many good stadiums and are often open to letting other countries in distress use their facilities.

The distance might be an issue but there are certainly many international standard stadiums in South Africa that Ghana can adopt for their home matches. The Orlando Stadium in Soweto, the FNB Stadium and the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium are all options to choose from.
